I was in the area to run a half marathon and stopped in here for some snacks and water before heading into Solvang. The store was clean and well organized. They had a pretty decent selection and prices. I ended up buying a bag of Cape Cod potato chips for $3.99 and 2 one gallon bottles of spring water for $3 plus 20 cents CRV. Albertsons is in Buellton and I live in town. I do shop here, but I'm very selective. I do NOT shop at the fish counter. The fish counter needs to be closed down. Selections are not fresh and most are farmed fish selections. The fish is defrosted and seems to sit for days. The shrimp is from Asia- Thailand and Vietnam - those are the shrimp you want to stay away from. I sometimes buy beef there, but if I do it's mostly organic ground beef. If I want fish, chicken, or beef, I will most times go elsewhere. This makes my shopping trips more complex. I know, first -world problems. The deli-counter is ok. I don't order from the deli. I asked and from what I was told, the deli selections are not made from scratch. The ingredients come pre-packaged and are put together. They are not freshly made, not the best ingredients. The produce staff get my award for the unfriendliest group in the store. The produce manager is NEVER friendly. Never says hello. And the staff pretty much follow his lead. Oftentimes the produce manager is chatting it up with the staff, talking sports and stuff, but the staff don't seem to acknowledge customers. I find it entertaining, and irritating. I do buy some produce, but the organic items are from Mexico. We've started going to the local organic farmstand for our vegetables instead. I'll buy select pantry items and such. And I do like their fresh flowers. The store manager seems to be nice. I've talked to him a few times when I had comments or questions. He is polite. Seems to care. Sometimes I think he has his hands more than full with this store, and the staff. It's hard to get good employees obviously. Too many of the employees are indifferent and unfriendly. A few are friendly, but most don't give you a greeting or eye contact. I understand that we all have bad days, but these few employees apparently have a bad day everyday. No, it's not just with me. I watch and notice with customers ahead of me. You could walk the aisles looking around, obviously trying to find something and employees will walk by you and not say a word. Oftentimes when I see people looking lost, I'll ask if they need help. I figure that I can help. The curbside shopping employees will cut in front of you to get what they need, and they block aisles with their rolling bins. The store employees seem to be scheduled to minimize staffing and maximize customers using the "self-checkout" terminals. I find it irritating at times. If I'm expected to work as a cashier, I should get a 15% discount for using self-checkout. I don't mind self-checkout when I have a couple of items; however I do not want to self-checkout when I have a full cart. Sometimes there are two cashiers and long lines of people waiting. I try to be patient, but at times it's not easy. One time I needed assistance at the self-checkout and the asst manager came over and told me what I should have done. She sounded irritated. I responded that "I must have missed that section in the training class." It seems that I'm expected to know how to use the self-checkout terminals without training. Please don't be cranky. I know it's a tough job, but it's your job. My experience is not the end of the world, but it is frustrating at times. I will continue to shop here because it's close to my home, but it's not my number one choice in markets. It is what it is, and I am glad they're here, overall. read more

Worst grocery store ever. I think I've only left 2-4 reviews in my life. I have given this store so many chances but I'm done. Every time I go in they are stocking the shelves and blocking the aisles. They won't even look up much less move to let you by. I have been in line many times with 10+ people in line and they won't open another check stand. You always have to watch everything they scan. I have never checked out when they haven't over charged for one or more items. They do have a great flower selection but the checkers always smash them even when I hand them the flowers and ask them to be careful. One more thing-be a decent human and put your damn cart back. OMG Dont visit the butcher shop here. The butcher is supremely grouchy. I know this. I always go to El Rancho for butcher shop selections. But I was in buellton, I had shopping to do and the pollo asado in the case looked so good. Spoiler alert. I never got any. I waited 7 minutes and, although I saw the guy walking by the door and we made eye contact he didn't come out. OK. Maybe he's busy. So I hit the vegetable section and came back. Another wait and eventually he emerges from the back with a trolly. I greeted him and he acknowledged me but proceeded with the trolly. At this point I stayed there just to see what would happen. Sure enough he walked back by me - clearly waiting in front of the counter for service - and went in the back for another trolly. Shame on me for thinking he'd ever change. This Albertsons seems to be the only major market in the area. There are other smaller markets. We have been here a few times over the years when in town. They seem to get pretty busy during dinner time, so it is best to try to go there earlier or later to avooid the rush. Their shelves are usually well stocked and the store is clean. They are in stripp mall like most markets with a large shared lot. The spaces near the market can get full when they are busy and so you might need to walk a little in the lot. On our last visit, we wanted to get a dessert for dinner. We selected an item from their bakery that is a standard item made at all Albertsons stores. The whole stack of boxes was wet. We really wanted it, so we got one figuring that just the outside was wet. When we got back to our room and were ready for dessert we were very disappointed to find out that the contents inside the box were also wet, which runined the baked goods, plus we did not know if it was just water or some chemical. We returned the item to customer service. Informed them of the problem for the whole stack and selected another mass produced big brand item as a replacement. While the person who helped us with the return was nice enough and gave us a refund, they seemed completely unconcerned that the whole stack was like that. There was no one in line after us and we did not see them go take the other items off the shelf. When we returned the next day for a different item, it appeared that the same three boxes were still on the shelf. We do not know, but it did not seem like the person to whom we made the return took the items off the shelf. Consequently, since this seems to be the biggest market in the area and since we usually have a good experience shopping here, then we are likely to go back and would recommend them, but we would also recommend sticking to big brand name items rather than the Albertsons brand ones in this store. read more

A very large Alberstons and one of the only major grocery stores in the area I enjoy stopping in. I have stumbled in here on accident as well as on purpose on more than one occasion when hanging out with friend or family for a weekend in Solvang or Los Olivos and recommend it if you're not to familiar with the area and are looking for snack comfort or maybe lunch for the afternoon. The have a decent bakery as well as other departments. Some of the pricing at this location seem slightly marked up or increased which I'm not a fan of nor the fact that 70% of the store is diagonal (up and down traditional isles) and the other 30% is the opposite of that (side to side isles) with so many isles it makes it a little tricky to navigate if you're passing through or just visiting for the weekend. Even though I'm personally still a little thrown off by the layout of the store (every time) as it is quite spacious they do have signs for every isle and area and there's plenty of room to navigate and not worry about collision of the carts. I'm sure I'll be more familiar next trip up.... the parking lot is pretty big... definitely a reflection of the store itself. The service here is good and the checkout counters have the old school rotating circular conveyors which I feel have been all but gone since the 90s... This store keeps it nostalgic and neighborhood like despite modern times there's some history here and a lot of humbleness. read more

I just moved back to the Valley and I'm so disappointed in this store. It's overpriced even compared to Santa Barbara and the organic fresh vegetables and fruits are mostly from Mexico. I make it a practice not to eat berries or vegetables from Mexico. I'll head to Sprouts and Trader Joe's in Goleta or to Valley Fresh in Solvang. I went into the BUELLTON ALBERTSONS, around 10:00PM, to purchase an INDIVIDUAL SERVING (12 fl. oz.), of milk, for my late-dinner. (1 item, only!) Minutes later, as I'm waiting in line (as SELF CHECKOUT Closes, at 10:00PM), the other customers (that were, also, WAITING IN LINE) noticed that I had ONLY ONE ITEM (the milk), and ENCOURAGED me, to GO BEFORE THEM... (I asked them "are you sure", and they said "yes, go"...) No sooner do I move up, to the front of the line, the cashier looks up, and says (in a VERY LOUD VOICE -- which could be heard, throughout the entire store, without using their PA System): "SIR, DID YOU JUST CUT-IN-LINE???" My face (under my mask) turned beet red, as he HUMILIATED me, and the other customers -- WHO WERE WAITING IN LINE -- FOR HIM -- TO FINISH WITH HIS [then] TRANSACTION, WHICH HE WAS HANDLING -- with NO OTHER CHECKOUT LANE "OPEN", TO LIGHTEN THE CONGESTION (there were, at least, 6 to 8 parties WAITING -- in addition, to myself) and, he DECIDES HE WANTS TO CAUSE A SCENE??? Now, I completely understand, that the SELF CHECKOUT LANE Closes, before the Store does -- because the SELF CHECKOUT "cashier/attendant" has different hours, but tonight's INCIDENT WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED, IF (EITHER: "SELF CHECKOUT'S HOURS ARE EXTENDED, OR A 2nd CHECKOUT LANE WAS OPENED -- BEFORE HIS "OUTBURST"! I love this Albertsons store. It is just minutes away from Solvang, which makes it so convenient to stop by and grab something. We stopped here on our way to Solvang to throw a birthday party for a friend driving miles and miles away from Orange County lol. Trip was awesome. I bought a bunch of meat and vegetables and plenty of junk food. Great sales and coupons here. They have a nice deli area. Place is clean and real busy. Great Customer Service here. Parking lot is pretty huge with surrounding stores. Always a pleasure to come visit here when i am in town. read more

I just walked into the store and was going up and down the isles wearing my mask and walking the isles in the correct direction. There were young men cleaning the floor going up and down the isles in the wrong direction and not even having the common courtesy of saying "excuse me ma'am may I run this broom around you?" They continue to sweep as we were trying to pick things up from the lower shelf of the aisle. I don't care if we are wearing masks or not but my eyes were getting full of the dust he was sweeping up. He should have stopped while we were in the aisle. Again, no common sense nor common courtesy! We went to check out, and the gentleman behind the counter was very rude. His abrupt gesture of telling us to stop when we started to load our few groceries on the conveyor belt, when there was no one else utilizing the conveyor belt, was unacceptable and unprofessional. He also seemed to be having quite a bad day as he took no concern for packing our bags for us or asking "paper or plastic" as we have always been asked. He then just sneezed and we said " have a nice day" and he stood there with no response. It's quite disappointing not to have the level of customer service that we are used to when we go to this Albertson's. We are regulars here in the community and just ask that people be a little bit more kind and considerate in their workplace as we are in our workplaces, kind and considerate. I think you're young man sweeping the floors and this particular cashier needs some serious retraining! I would not go back to this Albertsons if this is the new normal, good location or not. Easy access from the 101 and 246. Was pleased to see the store had a cart person who disinfected our cart and offered hand wipes to use. Masks, of course, are mandatory. The store was not crowded. Store looks nice and remodeled but if you look closely some further upgrades are needed. If you have an infant there is only a changing table in the women's restroom not the men's. There should be one in both. My husband tried to change my daughters diaper but had to come get me to do it since he didn't have access to a changing table. If you need ADA accessibility only the men's restroom had automatic door opening capability the women's did not. Please make your bathrooms equal! read more

Today was just the "last straw!" I've been very disappointed with all of the changes to the Albertsons in Buellton, CA. Every time I mention a change, I get the company line, "Decisions are made at the corporate level." I guess there is little consideration for the individual communities where the stores are located. Why do we need to take up all of this space with a Starbucks when there is one right across the road? Answer: Corporate decision. The employee added the "fact" that there is a 15 minute wait across the road. One of the first times I shopped post-renovation, I needed 4 items. 2 of them were not available. No more individual stalks of celery - sorry, not enough room in the (wide open) produce department. The second item I couldn't get was lemon juice in the little plastic squeeze container. I was informed it will be back in the store in a couple of weeks. Also, when they put the store back together, they should have cleaned off all of the dusty containers. Much of the inventory (especially in the produce section) was dirty, beyond dusty. I can no longer make a quick trip to the market as the layout is so different from the way it was prior to the remodel. I usually have to ask for help and/or double back several times. Also, now there are usually only 2 check stands with cashiers attending. Customers are encouraged to use self-check out. The first time I tried this, I had multiple issues. First, I made the mistake of not telling the machine that I had my own bag. When I placed it on the bagging surface, it set off a beep. The attendant came over to help me and showed me how to do it in the future but she was so fast and seemingly annoyed that I didn't follow what she was telling me. Next, I had difficulty with all of the produce that I bought. Again, the attendant came to help but this time she just did it for me and didn't try to educate me. So from now on, if I am purchasing loose produce or alcohol, I will have to go through the other check stands, even if I have just a few items since there is no longer an express checkout lane that is not self-serve. But... today was the last straw for me. Everyone who works there seems so angry. Checkers use to be pleasant and were able to converse a bit during the check out process. Now there is very little interaction. After I thanked the young man who bagged my groceries, I felt like he hadn't even heard me. A smile would be nice. Well, I got a smile from him a few minutes later... As I was walking out of the store with my bagged groceries in my cart, a can of tomato paste flew over my left shoulder from behind, barely missing hitting me! The bagger realized he had left it out of my bag and decided to throw it into my bag without saying anything to me. I was extremely upset and told him he just missed hitting me. All I got was a chuckle from him before he turned away. As if that wasn't enough, when I unpacked my groceries (just one bag, mind you), I found another item was missing. I am so disgusted with the way things have changed at Albertsons in Buellton that I am willing to travel further and pay more not to shop there anymore. It is very sad for me to see a store that used to feel neighborly, become corporate. read more

We were in Solvang for the weekend with our kids and we needed milk for our toddler so we headed to the local Albertsons for some milk. This store was so well organized and had very cool items that I haven't seen in our local supermarkets. It was definitely a fun trip and thank you for being so clean and organized. Albertsons Buellton was the first step in a pre-Thanksgiving pee, gas, pea-soup stop triad on a trip to the Central California coast. Who knew it would be the site of a remarkable seasonal supermarket soda display? The market was cranking with business the Tuesday before, and despite my haste on entering, time allowed for a quick subsequent viewing. The meat department exuded a good vibe, and a scan of the aisles revealed fully stocked grocery shelves throughout. In the Asian section, 3-ounce tins of curry powder and hot mustard powder were found side-by-side, the latter a rare find at most grocery chains. Really didn't need to buy anything on this stop so I exited, only to be wowed outside by a curiously stacked mountain of differently colored soft drink fridge packs. Concluding that this varied assemblage of 12-packs must possess some greater meaning, I stepped back to observe, and realized that it was a spared Thanksgiving turkey. The store's cart wrangler filled me in that the orange soda boxes represented a pumpkin. Thanks for that. You work at a great store in a charming town. I'm thankful that you and your colleagues were spared from being Haggenized, then Haggenated. read more

So I went to Albertsons the other day and was met by a gatekeeper who told me that I would be let in the store this time but not the next unless I wore a mask. Since then, I have not gone back. The only sane store in the valley is Valley Fresh who allows you to enter without a mask. There is no evidence that a mask prevents infection and there is not a mandate in place. Albertson's has decided to join the herd of irrational people who catastrophize the virus and reside in a state of fear and anxiety. read more

While the employees are friendly and helpful, the lines to check out are constantly long and slow. They hang those signs that say they'll open a new register if 3 people are in line, but usually its 3 dozen people and they will open another register. 1/12/19 This place will never change!! Time after time Ive walked out and head for Costco. NEW MANAGEMENT Needed ASAP! The person who I believe is the manager of the produce department seems to have no knowledge of anything when you ask him a question and usually ends up walking away from you. Of course he has a lot of friends and spends a lot of time talking to them. I've really really tried over the years. Same old tune! The meat department is terrible, seems when you ask for help, it's very limited at the least. most every single time I've gone to buy vegetables and fruit its outdated and or rotten. I've also experienced little fruit Bugs flying. I have shopped at Albertson's In Lompoc, Ca. They are extremely friendly, very clean store, when you ask for something, they stop everything they're doing and walk you to the isle and show you what you're looking for. This is one of 2 markets in Solvang and IMO the best one. The other is El Rancho market that I found a bit more expensive. This Albertsons also is a Vons with full hot deli, bakery, liquor, and Wells Fargo inside. Oh how I love Albertsons chicken wings that come in homestyle, honey mustard, or zesty! This market is just off Hwy 101 at Buellleton Rd and is 10 min from downtown Solvang. Prices are decent and they have a good clearance section. Starbucks is across the street and CVS next door. A great place to shop in/near Solvang! read more
