What a great time! Matt is very knowledgeable about bikes in general, but his love for Fat Bikes shows in his stories and his shop. I had some time to burn waiting on our rainforest bike tour and strolled into Mat's store and was off and riding in about 5 minutes! Matt gave me some points to hit to get a feel for what the fat bike could handle and I was off. Found some great river bank, sandy and rocky and the bike took it on like butter. I took on some small hills and was surprised how great it climbed. Could not have been more satisfied, that's not true; I should have rented it for more than the hour i did! My boyfriend and I decided to go to Alaska for three weeks with almost zero planning. When we got to Skagway we were looking for outdoors opportunities without the "touristy" vibe, so we were really happy to find ALCAN. We took their fat bikes out to the Flats to go camping (about a 45-60 minute ride from downtown) which was awesome. The fat tires were great for the terrain, and Matt, the owner, was really helpful with advice on where to go. I went home with a few bars of the "trail wash" soap and some of their coffee beans, and I'm not sure which smells better. PS I marked "good for kids". They have some small adult bikes, so average-sized kids from about 12 years should find a bike to fit. read more

If you find yourself in Skagway, Alaska this little shop is great! I was just passing through and only had a little bit of time in Skagway and stumbled into this place. You will have to get off Broadway to find it, but it's worth it. It's a little shop, but if you want to rent a bike and tackle some of the terrain or need to find a local gift it's perfect. I was able to find some coffee beans from a local roaster that was a perfect gift for some friends. Matt, the owner is also great and knows Skagway inside and out, so if you have any questions, whether it's where the best cinnamon bun is or where a good lunch place is, he will point you in the right direction. read more

Renting a Moonlander bike from Alcan Outfitters was the perfect way to spend our day in Skagway! Matt Roda, owner, did a fantastic job of hooking us up and providing everything we needed for an afternoon adventure out to the Gold Rush Cemetery and Reid Falls. This was a much needed respite from the tourist excursions provided onboard our cruise. And my husband, who works in the bike industry, had a blast on the fat tire bike and found a sweet coffee grinder and silicone filter for future camping trips in the shop. Matt was a huge help for our visit to Skagway. Wife and I wanted to do the train and bikes, but wasn't possible with the other company in town. Matt rented us a couple of fat tire bikes and we got a one way ticket to Fraser, BC on the train. Ride back was not easy, but good fun and bragging rites on our ship for me and the wife. My wife and I found this place while walking around town. Renting was a great spur of the moment decision. The fat bikes are fun to ride and it was a great way to see Skagway.
