This place redeemed itself that's for sure, we ordered chicken and waffles and shrimp cake eggs, service was excellent the staff were very attentive, the shrimp cake was perfectly cooked had a lot of heat to it, the eggs were runny when you cut them that is how a poached egg is supposed to be. The fried chicken and waffles were out of this world price is on the higher side but this place always gets packed, the chicken was crispy on the outside and very juicy on the inside, the chilli maple glaze was delicious The ambiance was nice small space so there isn't that much seating, the chicken and waffles were my favourite and their salad with their vinaigrette was delicious. We had placed ourselves on the waitlist while driving here and had wait for around 20 minutes before being seated as they were completely packed. Two groups waiting in line at the very small and narrow entrance while the staffs did not even bother to clean up the few tables with guests already left. A busy brunch location that serves a rather small menu of bennys, spaghetti and a couple other dishes. I have been to their Richmond hill location and this is the first time at the Markham one. There is less seating in this location, but the service seems better. The servers allow us to wait by the bar seats before claiming 1of 6 tables in the establishment, or you can choose to just eat at the bar tables. Sausage egg benny - An egg benny with a breakfast sausage on an English muffin with a side of potatoes and salad. Salad was good. Potatoes were over fried and was not seasoned as well as I remembered. The sausage benny on English muffin combination was a bit disappointing. The muffin felt soggy and heavy didn't contribute anything to the combination. The sausage was well seasoned and didn't feel too oily which was nice. On the egg benny was also good, but didn't mesh well with the sausage. Individual components on its own was good, together it was disappointing. Alchemy is a great place to try with unique dishes, but their menu hasn't changed since my last visit. Unlikely to visit either locations again due to the lack of innovation with their dishes. read more

I came here for coffee as I had been here a few times in the past. I had good experiences before. As I was waiting for my lattes, I was looking at the meals coming out. Eggs Benedict was what most people were ordering, presentation looked really nice, meals are $15 and above. My lattes came, but unfortunately my latte didn't taste the way I remembered it to be, coffee flavour wasn't strong enough, it seemed as if the portion of coffee wasn't enough, too much milk to coffee ratio. Alchemy coffee is a cute brunch spot. I came here with some friends for a Saturday brunch. We signed up for the online waitlist and got a spot within 5-10 minutes. The potatoes were cold not crispy at all and the Benedict was over cooked, no runny yolk. We also got the chicken and waffles. The chicken was juicy but no flavour. We got seated at a table by the door and their coffees are great as usual. I ordered a houjicha latte and it was a perfect sweetness level. Our table got two variations of their eggs benny (smoked salmon and house made sausage patty) and the chicken and waffles. The chicken and waffles arrived at the table first and the chicken was fried well and super crispy. The waffles were very light, airy and more crispy than expected and not sweet at all (they do provide a small cup of syrup). The poached eggs on the bennys were very disappointing on this occasion. They were over cooked and not runny at all :( I did enjoy the home made sausage patty though and it did have a slight spicy kick. Overall, I hope this was a one off experience regarding the eggs and that next time I can get some oozing egg yolk!! read more

My steak was medium done, with scrambled eggs, 1 whole toast cut in half, a side salad and mushroom sauce. Steak was chewy and a tad bit tough, scrambled eggs was bland, but the salad was good and so was the mushroom sauce. mr. Trans' duck benny looked good, it came with two egg benny, a side salad, and a side of roasted potatoes. I took a bite of his duck benny, it was good, but the alfalfa sprouts overwhelmed the whole taste of the duck benny. The potatoes were crispy and the sauce it came with was delicious. I always get the eggs Benny here - really well done and tastes delicious. I've tried the shrimp cake eggs Benny before which seems to be a seasonal item - would love to see it on the menu again. They just opened a new location in my neighborhood, decided to try their original OG location in Unionville, gotta pay my respects to the OG. Smaller place with 6 tables and country space for those who like sitting on stools. The chicken & waffles were both crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Gave me 3 chicken legs, luckily I prefer dark meat over white meat. Happy to see a lot of new brunch places open up over the last few years, but went back to one of my old favs @alchemy.ca in Markham! Their interior is still cozy but menu has expanded a lot compared the last time I visited. Tried the Duck Benny and Shrimp Benny, both were really good! Eggs were poached perfectly! My friends loved this place and took me here for brunch. I arrived early so I could be on the wait list first. They told me 30-45 mins wait time. The place had about six table seating area since it's a small cafe with limited parking spots in front. I think they started off as a cafe than a brunch place because they can't cater to many customers. I ordered the duck confit egg Benedict and I asked for well done eggs. The potatoes were yummy. My first time eating duck meat for breakfast and it certainly satisfied my tummy!! The salad was sweet and could be fresher. My friend ordered smoked salmon egg Benny and she thought it was a bit salty. My other friend ordered the same thing as mine but they messed up her poached eggs. She wanted it runny, and it wasn't. Overall the food was good. There is hardly any decor and the atmosphere can be loud. If the wait time was less, it would have been better. I guess this place is "eat and go." read more

We ordered: 1 Duck Benny 1 Salmon Benny 2 Matcha Tea Latte We shared our food and I replay liked both the salmon and duck. Cant really say which I enjoyed more. The Matcha Tea Latte was very good. The staff was nice and always checked in on us. We sat at the window, it was very funny sometimes as people who were waiting for seats would stare into the window and almost plant their faces on it to see if there were any free seats. Recommended by my girlfriend, we went to Alchemy for a girl's brunch,. There are only two tables of four, and the rest are tables of two....or sitting at a bar style around the wall. Total restaurant seats 26, so it's quite small. We immediately came on yelp and added ourselves to the waiting list, very handy! A lineup formed quickly, and we waited for about :30. Super nice server and the menu is great! We had the smoked salmon, duck and peameal bacon Eggs Benedict dishes ...all super yummy. The food is outstanding! Eggs perfectly poached and the sauce is not too salty or runny. Paired with some fresh greens and roasted potatoes. I also had an iced coffee, which was flavourful and delicious. Because of the small space, the washroom is also a supply room, which turns me off big time, but what can you do, right? One more insight is that parking is horrible. Very limited spots and most are reserved for other businesses. This place definitely could use a better location. It's way too good to be in this limited, tiny space! read more

I got their HOJICHA LATTE with oat milk (4/5) but do stir it up or else it gets really grainy at the bottom. I had the SHRIMP CAKE EGGS BENNY(4/5) was very savoury and poached egg done to perfection. I thought it was silly that they didn't allow me to substitute my potatoes for more greens unless I paid extra. In their defence, the home fries were good, golden crisp on the outside, just quite filling. My friend also got the STEAK & EGGS. Not much steak but there was a MOUNTAIN of eggs! The quality at the place still remains the same! I ordered the Breakfast Sandwich with the London Fog Latte and waited about 10 minutes for the order as there were many orders before me. The Breakfast Sandwich tasted amazing, and love the bun itself. There were bacon, eggs, caramelized onions. The eggs were a little moist , and wished it would be cooked more dried. This is a popular cafe in the neighbourhood, we went in today without reservation but got seated almost immediately despite many customers came in afterward, so it is advisable to make advance reservation. We ordered smoked salmon egg benny, cappuccino and ice coffee, the benny was fresh, hot and tasty and the coffees were excellently served too! My friend requested no carb so no deep-fried potatoes, the server separately offered a big plate of green salad without additional charge, how generous could that be! Service was great! The servers were nicely groomed, polite, attentive and efficient. I'd give 5 stars if they could serve boiled instead of deep-fried potatoes, and drizzled less dressings on the salad. It's been a few years since my last visit to Alchemy. Unfortunately, the taste of the food did not quite live up to my memories. We ordered the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benny and the Carbonara Pasta, the latter of which was at the recommendation of our waitress. The smoked salmon was quite flavourful and distinct. It cut through the richness of that creamy egg yolk. Their house fries were perfectly crispy without being burnt on the outside, nor dry on the inside. A generous portion to accompany the already filling Benny to say the least. Sadly, I was not a fan of the underlying english muffin for the Benny. At first, I thought the muffin was a bit tender from the creamy egg yolk and sauteed portobello mushrooms. However, after deconstructing the Benny a little bit, I was shocked to see that the english muffin did not appear to be toasted! The lack of different textures from the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benny ruined the experience for me - every bite just felt soggy, and every consecutive bite just felt even soggier despite the delicious flavours. The Carbonara Pasta was simple, creamy, and delicious. The saltiness of the bacon helped to cut the richness of the dish. I do wish the bacon was cooked a little bit crispier, again, to provide a different layer of textures within the dish. For drinks, we ordered the Cappuccino, Flat White, and the Hojicha Latte. All of which were delicious. A minor unsettling experience was that the Cappuccino was filled to the brim of the cup, and actually overflowing to the point where the waiter needed to line the coaster with a napkin. If I was at a Tim Hortons/Starbucks, I wouldn't have minded the full cup for the value. However, I was slightly disappointed at being served the overflowing Cappuccino at a sitdown cafe. It didn't affect the flavour of the drink, but did ruin the aesthetic of the coffee - I wish the barista would have brewed another cup instead of serving the full cup with spillover. read more

Alchemy Coffee continues to be one of my favourite brunch spots when I'm in town. It is such a go-to spot for celebratory birthday brunches and catch up sessions with friends, and has recently passed the spots-to-take-picky-parents test. Will have to say, the restaurant is quite small and parking is limited so be sure to reserve in advance! My go-to order has been the duck and waffle. Crispy duck confit paired with perfectly made waffles, plum sauce and a sunny side up egg to top it off. The parking lot is small and there's signs posted that certain spots are for certain establishments so keep an eye out to ensure you're parking where you should be. The restaurant is very small with high top seating along the window and one wall and tables dispersed in between that and the counter. The menu is located on the wall which could be difficult for those sitting by the window to see. We went with the chicken and waffles and salmon benny. Since both dishes came with salad it was a bit odd that one had dressing and the other did not. The waffle was too crispy for my taste. I prefer my waffles to be softer and not so hard/crispy. The fried chicken was okay but I've had better fried chicken before. The salmon benny was just right and the potatoes seasoned well. I came with a party of 3 and we ordered the Pork Belly Open-Faced Omelette, Smoked Salmon Eggs Benny, and the Carbonara Pasta. The presentation of each dish was very pretty, but for each price, we thought the portions would be a bit bigger. The food wasn't too hot either once we received it. The flavours and quality were good though. I also tried the Peaches and Cream latte. The flavours were great, you could really taste the peach, but once again, my drink was not hot. The other people in my party ordered coffee, and when we asked for another refill of coffee, the server stated that we can only get 1 refill. We're just used to getting unlimited refills from other brunch spots, but we were okay with this! Overall, I would come here to get some work done and have a drink with a friend.
