Stopped by for brunch at Next Door, located in the heart of Main St. Unionville. The restaurant is unique in a sense where it's situated in the historical Unionville Planing Mill. Was seated in their dinning hall ( the other side is more of a bar) and ordered a brunch tower for two. The tower includes their signature malaysian scrambled eggs, chorizo sausage, bacon, Brussel sprouts, toast with buttermilk pancakes stacked at top of the tower. The tower was beautifully presented and what I love most about the tower is their pancakes. Truly fluffy and light with whipped cream on top of it. Overall, service was efficient and attentive, often checked on and refilling water. On top of that, the restaurant has great decor and parking is provided in the back of the restaurant. Its considered on a slightly higher end for brunch ($20-30 range), but it was truly an amazing experience. This is very popular brunch place in Markham - but the options are more limited up here. Came with my parents to see what the hype is about (a few years after the hype has died down, but oh well). I must say that I do understand why people are drawn to the restaurant - it is very pretty and makes for wonderful pictures! This includes the lovely visuals of the food, which is beautifully presented and extremely photogenic. The taste of the food, although quite acceptable, fell just a bit short of its looks. The variety of colours was not matched with a variety of flavours, and everything was somewhat on the salty and greasy side. That being said, we very much enjoyed the potato hash, pancakes, and French toast. The portion sizes also outdid themselves - if you're coming here for brunch, just be prepared for a long nap in the afternoon! Service was excellent: prompt, helpful, and friendly. The interior is fairly spacious and elegantly decorated. Came here to celebrate my birthday with a friend. I chose this restaurant because it has a nice atmosphere. The service was great however prices are definitely on the higher end. The one thing I didn't realize is that their menu changed compared to what I saw online a few months before. I didn't like how there weren't many choices for mains especially when it comes to pasta. Both of us just ended up getting a Wagyu burger with fries because nothing else seemed appealing. For appetizer we ordered adobo fried chicken wings. I personally found the wings to be overly salted. Came here on a Saturday night; dinner here is perfect for any date night or girls night out! Ambiance feels really classy and calm; and the service is great! Our waitress made sure to keep checking in on us throughout the night. Food is really great as well! Everything is made in-house I believe, so it took some time for it to come out, but tasted incredible. We got to meet the chef, who explained what each dish was, which was a cool experience! We stayed for several hours after finishing our meal, and they let us stay despite getting close to closing time. Went seeking a restaurant that my mom would love for her birthday that I would also be able to eat at being a vegan and all. They have one vegan main dish on the menu and it is honestly not normally something I would have gone for but it truly knocked my socks off. The "salmon" has the texture of actual salmon it really throws one for a loop when you aren't expecting it. My non-vegan wife even wanted to give it a try it was so convincing! The restaurant is absolutely stunning inside and incredibly large. Very roomy and can accommodate large parties if needed. The staff are very helpful and when I informed them it was my mom's birthday they even brought her out a piece of cake with a sparkler. Their pancake flavors are different everyday and the waiter will let you what their flavor of the day is before you place your order. We had here for dinner as well and had their Thursday special. $50 for one main, appetizer and dessert. I would recommend getting the lamb saddle, the sauce that came with it was amazing. The Parking lot there is quite full most of the time so be prepared to park a little bit further. We ordered their brunch tower for two ($58) and loved that there was lots of variety for sweet and savoury. Always clean, friendly, and easy music (throwback R&B, pop) Came here on a snowy weekday night with my husband and there was only one other table filled - felt like we booked the whole place to ourselves! The special for Tuesday was $12 shareables and half price oysters (raspberry point). We were given menus and waters as soon as we were seated, and within 5min we had someone check in to see if we had questions. We ordered the community burger and spaghetti bolognese, and a starter of the pork sisig bombs. Food arrived hot within 15-20min (when I've come here for brunch before, it can take 15-25min) and we both loved everything. The spaghetti bolognese has two pieces of impressive fried chicken that come with it, the batter is amazing and crunchy. I think the brunch chicken and waffles uses the same, and we've always been a fan of it. Pork sisig had a good balance of flavours and a mix of fat that just melts in the mouth, this was my favourite part of the order. My husband devoured the burger and reports it was great, with a side of fries. Water was refilled as needed and we paid by card with no issue. NextDoor does brunch right. This was probably one of the most innovative and unique brunch menus I've seen in Toronto. With items like the duck confit pancakes, aburi salmon soba noodles, and okonomiyaki burger, they've really tried to bring a different spin to your meal. And of course, the brunch tower really is a magnificent spread sure to impress your guests. The taste of all the dishes was good and the portions were decent, depending on the dish. The prices are overall pretty high, but for brunch you're typically paying a premium anyways. Every dish will be over $20, but you should be full. The brunch tower ($58/$110) does seem a bit overpriced if you break down each item, since the majority of the tower is potatoes and mushrooms. But you are also paying for the visual experience. We split the 2 person tower (and 1 entree each) with 4 people, and we could barely touch it with how full we were. As for dishes, I especially recommend the shakshuka ($20) which I enjoyed so much. The flavors were amazing and the bread they provide is a great pairing. I was a bit disappointed that they charged me $4 for an additional 2 pieces of bread that I asked for, especially when my dish requires bread as a pairing. I have bookedmarked this place on the wishlist for a while now and finally decided to give it a try with my family. There were not many people dining here when we arrived. The place only had high seating which was suitable for adults. My son fell on the ground from the chair twice. Overall, the food was served slow but with decent quality for most of the dishes. We tried their duck wing, the brussel sprouts dish, the pork chop, the lamb pie and the cod. Except for the pork chop being too dry, everything else was with more than okay quality. Our favorite dish was the brussel sprouts surprisingly because I usually hate this veggie. They made it sweet and sour with this special honey maple belsamic dressing. It was so refreshing. The lamb pie and the duck wing were not bad but not wowing. The cod was an interesting fusion dish with Thai cuisine influence. The sauce of the fish was coconut curry. Despite the pork chop being dry, I really liked the mashed carrot sauce that came with the pork even given the fact that carrot was my least favorite vegetable. I could hardly taste the unfavorable carrot taste. Amazing sauce. Overall, this restaurant offered decent quality of food with a lot of creativities at reasonable price. Uptown brunch on a Saturday! Made a reservation here for a Saturday at around 1PM and was seated right on time - nice! The staff are very friendly here and were quite knowledgeable of the menu. The ambiance is nice and the restaurant was packed with diners as well. There are two sides to the restaurant, a dining area and a high top seating area, both near and at the bar. Here are the things we got: Vanilla Latte 4/5 Needed that coffee fix so I got a vanilla latte to start my day. Good choice. It came with a beautiful coffee art and a big red coffee mug. Asked for it to be not too sweet, but was still on the sweeter side. Not a biggie though as it was still delicious. Pancakes with duck confit 3/5 Got this as a recommendation from the server and it was not eh best dish to my liking. I thought the flavours were a bit strange for my palette when combined together. There were lots of flavours going on, the sweetness from the pancakes and sauce (it wasn't syrup), the runny sunny side up egg and the deep fried duck confit. Eel croissant 3/5 Another dish that was good on it's own, but was quite a weird mix for my palette when eaten together. I managed to secure a brunch reservation here for my gf and I on labour day. This place had been on my bucket list for awhile because it's notoriously hard to get a res. We arrived on time for our res at 12:15pm and still had to wait about like 10-15 min outside on the deck (gorgeous view btw, with the water mill and pond). But it was funny to see them turning ppl away constantly if they were just coming as walk-ins. The hostess seated us and a server came over to let us know the daily food and drink specials. The brunch tower seemed very intriguing to me but it sounded like A LOT of food and my girlfriend (even though hangry at that point) knew she wasn't gonna be able to help me tackle even half the tower haha. So we settled on duck confit pancakes and huevos rancheros. Ok, so the food comes out and I'm pleasantly surprised with the portion sizes. The plates were quite hefty and you get a good amount of food (which I appreciate cuz I like to eat). The presentation looked fantastic. Literally looked like michelin star plating. The duck had crispy skin, succulent meat (they actually give you a whole duck leg whereas I've been to restos that literally give you the drumstick and that's it). The pancakes were moist and fluffy. The rancheros were packed with goodies. I liked the fact that they actually cooked the tater tots well (crispy on the outside and tender on the inside). A lot of places screw up the potatoes. It also comes with a lot of egg and pulled pork which we really appreciated. To top it all off, we had some fresh mango peach juice to wash it all down. Yum! It's cracking up into expensive territory for brunch for sure (but I've seen way more egregious pricing downtown). I still rate it a 5 star first experience. Great food, great presentation, great service and still ok on the pricing. Probably the best brunch spot in the markham area if you ask me. It tops Alchemy Coffee brunch for me (which is literally in the same neighbourhood). I know they host weddings and special events too and I'm kinda curious.
