The spirits and cocktails are downright phenomenal. It's obvious that they are of the utmost quality and made with mastery and love- have to start with that. Vibe is immaculate. The building is artfully and thoughtfully constructed and decorated. Amy and Steve have been incredibly welcoming and sweet. It's clear that they make a point to uplift and collaborate with other local businesses (can't get enough of that Hum Yum Boldt Bourbon caramel). They always have the coolest pop-ups with local chefs and unique cuisine. First off they make it all here... and it's good... real good! Dedicated to quality small batch liquor distilling, thus place is a must if you are nearby. Came in on a Saturday with the South G kitchen doing a pop up dinner, we were here for the spirits, foid looked great, but the liquor surely did not disappoint. Basically According to the owners they try do 5 craft cocktails on the menu at a time, we gad the Pomegranate Wiskey Sours and they were amazing, with powdered sugar on smoked rosemary for the garnish, it was on point to be some of the better mixology I've had in Humboldt in quite a while... Alchemy Distillery is a gem. Amy and Steve's hospitality is unmatched and the tasting room they built is beautiful. Their love for their business is present in every little detail, from glassware made of their recycled bottles to the hexagon-shaped bar that matches the shape of their logo. The pop-up kitchen takeovers are always wonderful. Each guest chef has options that work for a wide variety of dietary preferences, including gluten-free and vegetarian, and Amy creates delicious cocktails (or mocktails) to match the theme. It's so fun to try cuisines that aren't really represented in our local restaurant scene, such as Puerto Rican or Hmong food. Amy and Steve make the best artisan craft whiskey arguably anywhere. Not only are they super nice (take the distillery tour if you get the chance) but they value local ingredients and local clientele. I always feel welcome when coming into the tasting room, and they're super accommodating with their bottle sales. During the pandemic I could order a bottle online and do a contactless pickup outside the tasting room. The bourbon is top shelf, and I love the Cereal Killer series, but the Bottled in Bond Rye takes the crown hands down. I have yet to do one of their food pairings but hope to do so soon! Such a beautiful space with so many little details that clearly speaks to the thoughtfulness and care of the owners. My partner and I have been to three events at Alchemy Distillery since their official opening, and all three have been wonderful! The drinks are deliciously curated (difficult to not want to try all of them) and guest chef Marisela of Cocina Mariposa was incredible in their gorgeous kitchen. Alchemy Distillery is a small, locally owned craft distillery in Arcata, CA. It is ONLY currently open to the public for tastings and tours - during some very select dates (During the Arts Arcata event - the 2nd Friday of each month). See the Alchemy Distillery web site for a list of upcoming dates for the Arts Arcata event and when they are open. Apparently - Alchemy Distillery will be opening a tasting room and have expanded hours - some time in 2020. I was in the area for vacation - and happened to be in town during Friday, August 9, 2019 - so I stopped in for the Arts Arcata event that evening. Alchemy Distillery is located in a sort of industrial looking warehouse style building. For the event, they unlocked the large chain link fence style gate and put a sign out - guiding folks to the event. I was looking forward to the tour. While I paid for my tasting of their new Bourbon release - I inquired about the tour - which was supposed to start at 7:00 pm. The gentleman pouring the Bourbon advised that the woman who was supposed to run the tour (I believe she is his wife) - was not feeling well - and would not be in attendance this evening to run the tour. Oh well - these things happen! Nothing you can do about it - but try again in the future. I looked around and took some photos. I only got to taste their new Bourbon. I think the new release could use some additional time aging in the barrel - it was somewhat harsh to my palate. And I really dig Bourbons! I really wanted to taste their Gin - but the event was so packed - and the one guy pouring was really busy - so I did not inquire about tasting anything else. Bought a bottle of their Boldt Bourbon at Murphy's during our annual trip to Humboldt. We bought it on Sunday and hubby and I had barely a quarter left by Wednesday morning. LOL Its 100% corn which makes it a pretty unique bill mash. You get some corn cob flavors, but also some sweet vanilla and creme brulee. I love it. It is smooth and flavorful. I hope one day, perhaps when COVID-19 has come and gone, they are open for tastings and tours. For two years we have come to visit but not lucked out to find them open to the public, but we will continue to try. Cheers to some great spirits! read more

Family owned and operated, their spirits are clearly the result of a careful process of distilling and aging that deliver amazing flavor for the craft beverage connoisseur. The owners offer guided tours and tastings, with a consistent schedule readily available and any updates or highlights for special events regularly posted through their social media presence, so you can be sure to catch them by checking Instagram or Facebook. I especially love that they attempt to be as close to a zero waste operation as possible, serving cocktails with reusable straws and giving their spent mash to local pig farms. Alchemy Distillery is like walking into a friends house with really good booze and feeling welcome to visit, ask questions and enjoy the atmosphere. There is something special about a married team distilling, bottling, marketing and hosting in the actual place of production. South G is a little outside of town and it's a nice change from the "color" of the Arcata plaza. Which, don't get me wrong, is fun sometimes. It's a great place to bring the kids to run around while adults can be adults in a safe and relaxed ambient environment. You won't regret a visit. read more
