The location is in a storage unit so it isn't anything fancy but they have some seating inside and room for a few pups like myself and my friend. If it was busy I wouldn't want to be here as it's so small my paws might get stepped on. The beers the humans tried were interesting and had some flavors - like a dill pickle - you won't get anywhere else. I visited Humboldt Regeneration early one Sunday afternoon. It's hidden on the back side of an industrial looking business complex. It's a small space overall. I met Jacob, the owner and brewmaster - he was running the show the day I visited. Really nice, interesting guy. He grows the majority of the products that go into making his brews. He malts his own barley and wheat on-site, which is, in my experience, unusual for a craft brewery. It's a small space, the brewing and tasting area are all together. I ordered a tasting flight of the following: Blasphemy Red Jay Belgian Red IPA (6.8% ABV) Cabernet Thyme Gruit (4.9% ABV) McPales Centennial IPA (5.9% ABV) Belgian IPA (6.0% ABV) IHA Centennial-Saaz (5.9% ABV) Apple Wood Blonde Ale (6.0% ABV) I enjoyed all the ales I tasted - except for I was not a fan of the IHA Centennial-Saaz. I thought the Gruit was an interesting beer - I've never experienced this style beer before this visit. Jacob explained that this style beer used no Hops - historically, it was apparently a style brewed by cultures that had no access to hops (or were unaware of hops). So herbs are used as a bittering agent and to flavor the beer. The Blasphemy Red Jay Belgian Red IPA was my favorite. They had other beers, but I did not try them all on this day. My boyfriend and I flew in from LA on a Saturday afternoon starving and in search of a few drinks. I suggested this place based on its good Yelp reviews, so we drove around trying to find it. We made a few wrong turns because it's not super easy to find, but eventually we made it. We walked inside and I was surprised that there weren't any tables or chairs. Not exactly what we were expecting, so we quickly decided to just leave. We made it back to the car before I said, "maybe we could get a few growlers for the Airbnb?" So we went back inside. It didn't appear that anyone was even working for a few minutes, but eventually the owner emerged from a sort of freezer-looking-thing and greeted us. He was very friendly and took the time to explain all of the beers he had to offer, and that he grew everything on his own farm. Eventually we settled on an IPA and a plum sour (he warned us that his sours are very sour, but the plum is the most mild.) While he got to work filling and sealing our growlers, he gave us some suggestions on what else to do while we're in the area. When we tried the beers later that night, we were both super impressed with how good they were. They're sort of cloudy, like an unfiltered apple cider, and somewhat earthy, but in a good way. We especially loved the plum sour. We were just bummed we didn't have more room in our carry-on bags to take some more home with us! read more

Off the beaten path - and a bit hard to find (look for the HR BEER SIGN on the north end of Central ave - just past the Railroad Rd. intersection light - west side of the road) at the AAA sign in the back of an industrial complex - inside a garage/warehouse space all the way in the back - is one of the real hidden gems of the California north coast and behind the Redwood Curtain. Humboldt Regeneration - from seed to glass... that is their greed - this true heirloom brewer literally takes your beer from start to finish and back again. They raise most of the ingredients locally - about a half a mile away, roast, ferment, brew them in house and then after you have drank the finished product - recycle all of the leftovers back to the ground in which they came... old school & world class. A true heirloom Brewer - using cutting edge technology and methodology with old school craftsmanship - brewing mostly Belgium style crafted beers, stouts, IPAs and porter brews - this is about as close as you can get to brewing it yourself but not. These guys are serious about their brews and where everything comes from. A recent stop in Humboldt Regeneration had me sampling seven (7) different offerings the day of my visit - the brew master (Jacob) had produced 200+ different styles of brews in the past year. This unassuming 2 1/2 year old nano brewery has been taking the northwest brewery scene by storm - voted one of the top nano breweries of 2014 in an industry paper. That in itself is impressive as this is a tough category in a very tough competitive market to get recognized in. Based after the CSA (community supported agriculture) blueprint - HR follows that same basic approach - you can buy "shares" into the brewery's "harvest" that allow you x number of growler fills per quarter, bi-annually or annually - depending on the level in which you as the consumer/supporter buy in at. As well they are open to the public - Wednesday through Sunday after 11 am offering tastings to sample and determine your favorites. My personal fav this trip - a sour aged stout... like chocolate with a sour twist at the end - complex and quite tasty. One word - amazing.... A full fight of seven (7) samples the day of my visit ran me 14$ bucks I believe - had to get a growler to go... Humboldt Regeneration is a nano brewery that is well worth the visit and another thing that makes living on the north coast and behind the Redwood Curtain such an awesome place to live. The young man that operates it (I guess owns it) brews the beer, runs the farm that grows everything, and I believe even worked on the tractor the farm uses for 'tractoring'. The selection is amazing especially because it's all made in a beer rig that rolls on a track outside the building when it's time to brew. What do you like? Doesn't matter... he probably brews it. He built the darn beer making think. His dad taught him all about pipes and plumbing. I met him. (He's a retired plumber) He was there drinking beer. Probably got a discount. I had the Rishi Brown. This place came highly recommended by a few people. There are a lot of breweries in the Humboldt region, but this place is special. It's clear there goal is not to build a name and sell out. The owner (who also operates the tasting room) truly loves what he is doing. The tasting room is essentially a garage where all the brewing is also done. There are a few seats, but not s lot of room. However, the lack of a fancy tasting room is perfect for the vibe of this place. Everyone here chats and discusses the beer. It's an extremely friendly and enjoyable environment. Now for the beer - unique and very solid. I told the brewer to pour me six tasters of his choosing. He asked me some questions about preferences and poured me six beers. I loved 4 of them, especially those in the sour end of the spectrum. I liked one. I was indifferent about the final one, but definitely did not dislike it. Strong recommendation for any beer connoisseur. Was the perfect first stop after a six-hour drive to the area, with a very relaxed environment. The brewmaster was there to answer all of our questions, and even played some music to explain the meaning behind the name of one of his beers. Was very cool to see the brewing setup; had the familiarity of a private "garage" brew, but the taste was professional-grade. Recommend getting a flight! I visited so many breweries in Humboldt County and this is, by far, the best one. Sure, the atmosphere is a nano brewery (read: storage shed) but what you may lose in surroundings is more than made up for in the beer. Every beer I tried was complex and refreshing. The Faro Red-- if you like sours-- holy taste explosion. I kind of whimpered a bit when I remembered this brewery is in California and I'm in Pennsylvania. Tip: it is hidden. When you turn at the AAA Storage, keep going straight (go until you pass all the buildings on the right!) and you will find it. You must try Humboldt Regeneration if you are a craft beer lover! As the other reviews stated, this place is hard to find. We didn't know we had found it until we were right in front. They have a tiny sign that says "Farm Brewery" on the outside so look for that! The tasting room is very small but the two guys working there were very accommodating and knowledgable. I wouldn't recommend bringing too many people because there is really only one sitting area that maybe has room for 5 people. This is some of the most unique beer I have ever tasted. Each one full of flavor and different from the next. If you like strong beers, this is the place for you! Right now this is a hidden gem. But probably not for long! The owner is a hard-working, approachable, and talented guy with a passion for what he does: growing 100% of his ingredients and putting them into hand crafted beer. He also uses a CSA model so he may well be the only brewery I know of that BOTH grows its own ingredients AND uses a CSA model to serve the community. Although he specializes in belgians and sours, he has made over 100 brews in the 2 years he has been open. It's a low key environment. Just purchased a 6 month share for my husband for Xmas (CSB). I'm stoked to give him a present he will actually use and enjoy! The owner is very dedicated to making the best beer with locally grown ingredients. He even hand harvests his own wheat! The tasting room had a lot of people coming through for tastings, growler refills, and just to have a couple of beers. The guys who operate the business are extremely knowledgeable, approachable, and passionate about making great beers.
