Lots of neon & edm going on here. It's not the worst but there just isn't really an option to chill and just have a drink here if you aren't trying to go hard on the dance floor. It just doesn't really fit in with the overall vibe of Glenwood but I guess it does mix things up a bit. Just depends on what you're looking for - I find it a little tacky and pretentious but I can appreciate the effort in achieving a certain type of ambiance/environment. Oh Alchemy, sweet Alchemy. I think a lot of people have a love hate relationship with this place. On one hand, it is one of the only places on Glenwood with a club- type atmosphere. They are going for a Miami vibe with the all white building and outdoor seating with palm trees. Inside there is a decent sized dance floor with a DJ playing nothing but bangers and EDM. Now on the other hand, there is broken glass everywhere at all times and the strobe lights can be a little too much. I swear they are trying to disorient the already drunk people dancing. However, if you make it past some of the ratchet features, you are destined to have a good time. I'd say it's a 1am + kind of place. A resounding eh. Definitely a cool atmosphere from the outside. They try to portray an edgy Miami lounge atmosphere which is apparent in the style. Once you get in its definitely not the case. Unfortunately the security staff was kind of obnoxious and pushy. "No hats" rule aimed at folks in baseball caps in our group but everyone else in the group with flat caps etc were allowed, including their staff wearing baseball caps. Very strange rule, especially for a new place that can't afford to push people away. Best part was the entertainer. I went to Alchemy for the first time last night. The place is where 606 used to be. The music was great and the outdoor bar was awesome. They played a lot of EDM music which I loved as a lot of the other bars in the area only play top 40 music. I think this place is going to do really well. The place got packed around 11:30. Didn't know what to expect. If a jersey shore fist pump nation scene is your thing then you might enjoy yourself here. They hand out big foam glow sticks, which I like. That's a fun touch. Smoke machine is going to add effect. The music is more techno and electronic. To enjoy yourself, you have to go earlier, not later. The crowd and management are so rude. read more

If I could give this place no stars, I would. This bar has had a reputation for attracting the wrong crowd for a while, but it never personally affected me until now. If you come here, WATCH YOUR STUFF because people will be out to steal from you. The workers know this is a problem and pretty much do nothing to stop it from happening. My phone was taken from inside my purse, one of my friends had expensive medications taken from her's, and a handful of other girls I know have gotten their wallets, ID's, and phones taken too. Would give 0 stars if I could. Broken glass is spread all throughout the dark, crowded, sweaty dance floor. My friend cut a large gash in his foot from a piece of glass on the floor. When I tried to go back into the club to retrieve the glass, two bouncers took the glass from me and proceeded to choke me and throw me out. Other than the glass, it's still not a fun place to be. People have to cover their ears the whole time and then finally just end up leaving cause it's not fun. Drinks are expensive and have a strict dress code against wearing football jerseys. read more

My friends and I decided to have a fun night downtown (being that we are all over 30). We found our self's at alchemy lounge, The vibe is a upbeat Miami dance floor. We had a great time, until we left. For reasons unbeknownst to us,upon leaving, a short African american bouncer decided to push me, which caused my wife to fly across the floor. I do not understand the nature of his anger but it caused bodily harm to my wife. Upon confronting the manager I was greeted with little consolation, A simple acknowledgement of impropriety would have be nice. You can be sure that a authentic Miami line awaits you, overly aggressive bouncers will happily push you out of the way when they feel you deserve it. the majority of Raleigh is full of nice people, but this place sticks out like a sore thumb. I've been to this bar/club a few times. It is fun to go to when you don't want to hear anyone talking I suppose. Tonight I took my fiance, maid of honor's brother, and my brother while we all went out downtown. After going in to Alchemy, one of the party asked a bouncer if we could go buy cigars and smoke them in the outside portion of the bar. The bouncer said yes, so he went to get the cigars. The guys began smoking them, and had been smoking the cigars for about ten minutes when another bouncer came up and said they couldn't smoke them inside the porch of the outdoor bar. They told the bouncer the had been given clearance to do so, but politely moved outside the area so they were on the sidewalk (keep in mind, there are ash trays in the outdoor bar area, and were nowhere near any other patrons). Two of the four continued to smoke their cigars outside the bar, but close to the fence so they could continue a conversation with those of us inside the bar, and were told again that they needed to move. They shouldn't have been told in the first place they were allowed if this was not true. This bar isn't great in the first place. Cornerstone across the street is a better option. read more

This bar / club isn't the worst in DT Raleigh. The decor and overall ambience is very chic and I really love the outdoor area away from the dance floor. This place can be CRAZY packed almost to the point where it is uncomfortable, however I have only been on Saturday nights. In addition, the bartender was super helpful on my 21st birthday and suggested a drink for me try. She also gave it to me on the house! Alchemy is the greatest place I've been to in the triangle. The place gets more packed around 12, and there's no cover charge. The overall atmosphere is nice and there was good EDM playing. Drinks are pricey but bottled water is free. Staff were quick to clean up the dance floor whenever there were broken bottles/glass on the floor. The only problem is the floor gets slippery from the spilt drinks. I felt a bit overdressed since it seems like there's really no dress code..most people had sandals on. read more

So, first time I visit this place and I have to deal with a fraud swipe on my credit card. The actually compelled me to create a yelp account and write a review for this place. Apparently if you don't tip good enough on the first drinks purchase, the bar tender will make an incorrect charge on your second purchase with an insane tip that you didn't authorize. Firstly, I was not given a merchant copy to sign on and hours later I get a notification that the transaction is of a different amount which finalized to an even insanely large amount compared to the purchase. I am pretty sure someone will reply that contact Mr Dutch(the manager) for such an issue, but seems he is in it as well cause they just don't reply to your calls. On a Friday night: I love raves, but this place is obnoxiously loud and the strobe light gives me a headache. There is no level of drunk achievable to enjoy this place. Kind of overdone, but it was nice to sit in the front on a cushioned lounge area and enjoy the more club type of EDM/dance music and maybe pretend I'm not in Raleigh for a brief second. The indoor dance area wasn't exactly classy... I know what they were going for with the lighting and smoke but it didn't really deliver in a good way. So heads up to all my people who are minorities, make sure you bring your white counterpart/insurance to get into this club. I have been here many times with a big group of people being the trademark black girl in the group and we got in. Next two times I go, I show up with my friends who happen to all be black and coincidently both times it has been an issue of shoes or being "too drunk" to get in. I went to Alchemy the opening night and it was absolutely gorgeous! Fun bartenders, great DJ selections and tasteful people that came. From then to now it has changed a lot. The staff are still great along with the music, however, the place needs to be cleaned ASAP. The floor is always messy and filled with broken bottles and dirty napkins everywhere. I noticed the last time that I was there that some of the lights on the dance floor were broken. It's like a farm now compared to when if first opened. read more

FIVE STARS CLUB! We went there last Saturday night for Halloween celebration, and there was a huge line to get in around 1am. Shows how popular this location is! When we got in, we got our drinks quick, and the DJ was excellent! We all had a blast and wished that they had played a few more songs. We will definitely be back next time. read more

The music here was really good and great to dance to. But the issue I had was I was there last night and one of the girls in our group cut her foot open on a broken beer bottle on the dance floor! We got her to the bar to get some napkins to stop the blood and a member of the staff came over with a first aid kit to try and help. He literally just stood there and did nothing for her. So we went outside and asked one of the police officers for help. The manager (or I think he was the manager) came out and asked if we could get her anything. My husband said gauze and antiseptic wipes. He had neither and came out with band aids and a towel wet with vodka. Really? I appreciate the help but that's not what we needed. The two star review is for the fact that they were not in the least bit prepared for the situation and I'm so confused as to why. Like I said the music is good but I wish the place was bigger because everyone is packed like sardines. Also if you have injuries like that then you need to know what to do in that situation. I've been a resident of Raleigh for over 6 years now and love the nightlife here. Ever since Alchemy opened up, it has been my all time favorite club/bar in Raleigh. Alchemy, from what I know, is the only club/bar in Raleigh that plays the best EDM, while giving you the "Miami" vibe with awesome light & sound systems, smoke/fog machines and overall interior decoration. Alchemy has always given me top service at the bar, therefore altogether giving me the best overall experience I could ask for on a night out. read more

I went to this bar and bought a round of drinks for my two friends and myself. They over charged me because my bank statement says I spent $63 at this establishment! This is absurd because I only bought four drinks. My group was only there for around 10 to 15 minutes. I did not sign any receipt indicating that I spent 63 dollars. What is even more upsetting is that the bar is not even open, so I can not call to get this fixed. The bar tenders clearly charged me twice and I will never return to this careless place. something about the blue lights and stripper poles makes me want to go here again and again! If you're into 8 inch stilettos, and spandex shorts dancing on poles then this is the place for you. I probably could've had a seizure in this place for how horrible the music is, and how many strobe lights there are. I think it's to distract people from how disgusting the place actually is. This was my first time being at this club. I was very disappointed in my friend being turned down based on "not wearing proper shoes". However, many people came after us with the same kind of shoes and were let in. There is no dress code posted on the website and when confronted the manager didn't agree with the bouncer's decision. However, she still wasn't let it. I don't really know what the issue was but my friends have had other issue prior to coming. The bouncer likes to pick and choose who gets in and that's not right, that's discrimination. I wouldn't recommend this club to anyone. read more

One of the male bartenders told a female in our group if she flashed him her vagina he wold give her a free drink. Then one of the bouncers told me to take my hat off and if I put it back on he would take it for good. I have no problem following a dress code if there is one but 2 other girls in the group had a hat on and so did another male in the club. We went to this bar because we were part of a bar crawl and many individuals were wearing hats. It was not mentioned when my id was checked that I could not wear a hat. One of the girls in the group asked why she could where a hat and I was not allowed to. needless to say.. i will never go back to this place again. i haven't been in over 10 years and i had the worst experience ever saturday jan. 27th. i walked up with 2 of my buddies who are white and asked the guy if what i was wearing was appropriate.. the guy says yes but you can't wear boots. i said. ok cool, i have shoes in the car and i walked 4 blocks to change them. came back and the same guy told me i could not enter with what i had on! i asked what do you mean, you just told me i was fine but couldn't wear boots. then he proceeds to say that i can't wear jordans and got a sh*%*y attitude with me and looked the other way saying you didn't ask what kind of shoes we accept! are you f*ing kidding me??? i network with alot of people around the downtown area so best believe this is 1 of 2 bars i was discriminated at this past wkend and i will have people avoid this place. my two friends stood there in amazement from what they just saw. then i had an employee that works there.. victoria bell contacted me on fb being disrespectful and she caught the backlash from all of my friends on fb.. know your place! then proceeds to tell me that you have other races working there and that means absolutely nothing! if you're the owner and you read this. you may need to get a better idea of who you have working the doors there and the bars. if she had never gone of fb. i wouldve never given this place as bad as a rating but i have a bunch of friends and professional associates in the town and nearby cities.... they will report this! read more
