The service was amazing here. The waiter we had was overly kind in the best way possible. However, the food is average at best. While being vegetarian, the only option was a cauliflower dish which wasn't terrible but could have been a bit better. It honestly might be due to my own palate. We went here on a night where it pouring down rain so the back area was closed. This made it hard to get seating as only indoor seating was available and people didn't want to leave to walk in the rain. The 5 of us were able to get seated in a hallway which was fine - far from really cool area in the back. It's not their fault. We ordered drinks which came reasonably quickly. We ordered a couple chips and guacamole. I think it was our tenth different restaurant having guac. This was probably #2 or #3 best. Even though expensive, it was nice portions. That's the theme of this restaurant. It's expensive compared to others but portion sizes are big compared to other restaurants. I had this al pastor dish that I can't remember the name. It was incredibly flavorful and filling. Thankfully, they put the habanero sauce on the side. I dipped a fork in it and tasted it. It was way too spicy. LOL. The chicken fajitas were huge with alot of veggies. You could probably share them as they gave us 6-10 corn tortillas per order. Two of us had the steak tacos. They were one of the only inexpensive things on the menu and they lived up to that cheap expectation. Steak was hard to cut even with a steak knife we requested. Neither finished their tacos, sadly. They also made a mistake on one of the tacos when we ordered to have something removed. It was my daughter's birthday. They had a DJ who spun up a happy birthday song and they gave my daughter sparkler things to hold. It was a cool experience which we very much appreciated. This restaurant is a beautiful hidden gem. It appears to be an average restaurant until you enter the back jungle. They left the natural trees caves and fauna to enjoy! It's spectacular to sit in the midst of this beauty to eat delicious desserts. We tried 3 of the desserts. The cheesecake looked great but tasted more like sponge cake, so i would not recommend. Notes: What a great temporary escape from the busy streets enjoying dinner in a jungle themed restaurant with a Cenote under big trees and the sound of peaceful waterfalls. At some points of evening I also heard wild cats (baby tiger and puma I believe) and monkeys from the animal place next door, which added to ambiance. Neat decor, spacious, and various areas of seating. Server was friendly and helpful in recommending dishes. The grilled fish did seem to take a while to cook and come out. I came for the Lima Sopa but they were not serving it that night so explored other delicious menu options. We came here for dinner on a Friday night with a reservation but they still had tables available. I wish we were sat in the back a bit more to get the immersive experience but every table is nice. The BF and I split the roasted Caesar salad, it didn't taste grilled but the dressing was definitely hand made. It was a whole head of romaine so slicing was a bit difficult but it was totally worth it! I had the catch of the day prepared with mashed potatoes. It was a simple dish but delicious. Walk down busy 5th Avenue and turn into the tiny restaurant front only to be greeted by greenery and gardens out the back door. There is a cenote! The food was excellent- extremely flavorful. They are very accommodating and will make you something that is not on the menu if they can. The margaritas were tasty ! If you want to feel like you are in the jungle, this is the place to go. The food was delicious, drinks even better, and service was great!!! The check was converted to US dollars but also had the price in pesos so no one was shocked. I got two Cadillac margaritas and the Tulum Steak, both were great! I was with a group of 8 and the waiter was able to split the checks as 2,2,2,1,1! Our hotel concierge booked our reservation early (6pm) so we had the whole place to ourselves which was great because we all got up from The table to walk around and take pictures. No greeting upon arrival, hostess showed her displeasure when we asked to be seated one table over seeing as the place was near empty - what's the problem? Service was slow. We were not in a hurry, but still..who wants to be ignored and have to get up and find the waiter? Food: The lime chicken soup was good, the smoked pork fair...but the skirt steak was uneatable. Superb breakfast spot! I could not believe how peaceful it was in the back seating area since it was on 5th Avenue. You couldn't hear anything that was going on outside the restaurant. Food was fantastic. We had the ranchero eggs and the chilaquiles with eggs. Be sure to ask for hot sauce. They brought out homemade hot sauce that was the best we had in Mexico. We spotted some lush, secret garden type seating through a neighboring businesses shop. She told us the entrance was two doors down and that's how we happened across Aldea Corazón. We are SO glad we did. Its a secret cenote gem of an oasis right in the middle of the busy pedestrian area of Playa del Carmen. I was surprised, very surprised. As, this place has been beaten up by previous Yelpers. Service has been nothing but exceptional. Aldea is what the word ambiance was invented for. It is either for a tourists delight (I know, tourism is bad...but not this time), or a romantic dinner delight. For me it's tourism, for my friends romance. Sorry, but I'm the third wheel on a two wheel bike today. The food here at Aldea Corazon was nothing but amazing. I had the Jicama Tacos, amazing, amazing, amazing. I also had the baked cheese. This is a Mexican Queso that is put out to you in a spectacular fashion, so get your cameras out, you will never think of cheese the same way again. My main was the pork shank, truly outstanding, I'd get it again and again. Had a late lunch and wanted to see the cenote beneath 5th Avenue. We were surprised that the food was very good (pollo mole and tacos), and the margaritas much better than anything we had on the beach. Service was excellent - it was an odd time for lunch and we were one of less than 10 other tables in the entire restaurant, so the staff were able to devote a lot of attention to everyone. The restaurant setting is beautiful. I was surprised to read bad reviews on here, it sounds like the kitchen has a hard time making steaks and other non-Mexican dishes when the restaurant is at capacity. I would recommend coming mid-afternoon when there is no crowd to enjoy the garden. read more

Very rude, this people let us being there stand up 3 families with kids. There was empty tables and space it was just the attitude from the hosts from a man a woman. If this was the way they welcome to the restaurant I don't want to know what happen when they are serving the food. After 45 minutes waiting, and the note here: "there where nobody in line or waiting" we left. Its so sad people in Playa del Carmen are becoming so unfriendly and rude as people in other touristic places. I had a pretty terrible time at Aldea Corazon. It was the last night of our trip and we wanted to go somewhere special. The ambiance here is great so I added an extra star. The food was beyond salty and inedible. I really can't emphasize how awful the food was. I don't have the words. I got the steak and my friend got the fish. The steak didn't even taste like steak! It tasted like rubber dog food. We complained to our server and nothing was done to fix the issue. We left the restaurant extremely unhappy. I would never return here. Going to give this place 5 stars aside from food taking a little long the scenery is well worth it. It's an old cenote and just sitting sipping on our margaritas one can imagine the history that lies here, while we dip our chips in guacamole and the tasty salsas they have created and served you. I'd come here again, mostly for the cool outdoor garden and the drinks. We wanted something that wasn't a familiar chain restaurant or an obvious tourist trap while in Playa Del Carmen and our hotel recommended this place over some of the pricier restaurants in the downtown area. We were skeptical at first given the mixed reviews but I think if you know what dishes are standouts you could come here and have a solid meal. Our server was very attentive, helpful, and quick. Not sure what made our experience better than others but we had no issues. We were seated at a cute table in the garden area, by the waterfall, away from some of the other parties, so it felt semi-private. The garden IS cool - it's not what we were expecting from the outside and it adds to the vibe. Also props to whoever was picking the music - great choices. Our drinks were great - I had a frozen mango margarita (strong, not too sweet) and T had a classic mojito (strong, not too sweet also with lots of fresh mint). The chips and salsa they bring are complementary and nicely crunchy. We wanted more heat so after asking they brought us habanero salsa which was spicy and smoky and delicious. Appetizer-wise, we went with the Tacos Plaza de Toros (tacos with chorizo, chicarrones, sauce and toppings) which were good though not amazing. Chorizo was salty and well seasoned, chicarron were crunchy. For my entree I had the chicken mole which came with corn tortillas. The mole sauce itself was really tasty, complex, sweet and smoky, and the chicken was good though a little dry on one of the ends. It was a generous portion, though, so I didn't miss the small chunk I cut off because it was too dry for my preference. I would get it again. T got the tuna in a green (verde) mole which was too overdone. The sauce and veggies were good but it should have been cooked a lot less (and we had asked for it to be rare). Evening dinner in an incredible atmosphere and excellent service. We started with the Melted Cheese and then on to Shrimp a la Tall and Grill Mix with mixed drinks from the bar. All selections were very good. The service was pleasant, attentive yet let us eat our meal without a lot of interruptions. The cenotes are so beautiful and you feel like you are in a very special place when you dine here. We went twice in a week and I'll be headed back there within year and make this a first stop. DO NOT EAT HERE: Awful service and horrible managment!!!! My Husband and I showed up for dinner and were told there was a wait to sit in the garden area near the cenote. We agreed to wait. After waiting about 20 minutes we asked if we could take the first available seat but be moved when a spot became available in the garden. The Hostess agreed. While we waited for our table we saw other English speaking couples walk up and request tables in the garden. When we got seated we began to notice several of the couples who walked up after us were seated quickly in the garden area WTF! After being seated we were not greeted or served. I finally got up and had to practically go into the kitchen to get someone's attention. I mentioned the seating issue to our Server who stated he didn't know anything about it. As we saw the third couple being seated in the garden area I finally asked to speak to a Manager. I explained what had happened and the Manager was unapologetic. He was a total ass and just started talking down to us. I couldn't help but notice that as Spanish speakers we were being treated differently than all the people who looked like tourists.
