At this particular location and time (late afternoon) was my first visit to an Aldi store to scoped out the products. I selected a few produce items. There were brands I've never heard of like dollar-store brands. Prices were good, but when I went to the front of store to check out, there was only one register open and a line of customers that filed past the 6th register and into the frozen food section across the store....and closes at 9PM..OMG... really? There is too much unemployment out there not to have the proper amount of registers open to cover the business. Where is management?! I returned the products I selected to the bins and walked out. So i asked around and was told the Arlington store had good organic vegetables because there were almost none on monroe st alexandria. so the Aldi store location finder refuses to display the addresses of arlington stores and i revert to google which displays kenmore aldi 22304 as having organic and monroe st as not having organic. . So i head hopefully for kenmore . They only have carrots for the same price everywhere else and tomatoes for more than the going price, and zero other organic fresh vegetables. But while I was there I decided to pick up vanilla and instant coffee which i saw but did not purchase last week at monroe st Aldi. They did not have any. So back to Harris Teeter and Safeway it is. This is my third time at Aldi. I tried to like it but don't. I've been to 2 different ones. The bread was sitting in a wet box, everything seems a bit gross, the choices are slim, and the cashiers are rude. Will not be back. Their prices are not worth the experience. read more

Eh, they let the lines get really long. Sometimes 10-12 people deep before they open a new one. I prefer Springfield store.

I am usually a huge fan of Aldi and I still am, but I will NEVER again go back to this location. I went after work with daughter and as I was passing the frozen foods one of the male employees bursts out of the double doors yelling about another employee named Lee. He nearly knocked my eight-year-old daughter over and just stared at me. She was off to the side not even close to being in the middle of the aisle or bothering anyone and he didn't even apologize. I was appalled. They need a customer service and professionalism seminar! read more

I dropped in this new food store when i was over that way. Milk was on sale for 0.99, probably because it had a expiration or sell by date 2 days later. The produce was not that fresh looking. Bread had no expiration or sell by dates. Looked like some good products, but no dates to evaluate freshness. Some very good prices. In my experience I was unimpressed. Getting help was difficult. To me this doesn't come close to Trader Joe's diverse and less than grocery stores. One measure for me is fresh produce and perishable products, e.g. bread. Some people may find the mostly store brand products a good deal. For them I say great. It may be a store that works for you. I'm guessing the reason produce and dairy weren't so fresh is because a new store has to have all the groceries on hand and they aren't yet well established. Maybe give them the benefit of the doubt. Positives: Cheap items, I literally cut my grocery bill in half (I went to Giant with my receipt and compared) I bought a 4 cup bag of cheese for 10 cents more than a 2 cup bag of cheese! Negatives: 25 cent deposit for shopping cart (not really a negative) Must bring and pack your own stuff (first world problems...) There's a guy who will literally throw your stuff into your cart while checking out! I wish he would slow down so he wouldn't throw my hummus onto my chips or eggs. Last week every single thing of eggs I picked up were broken I haven't even thought about buying any type of meat. I am still kinda skeptical about that. I will continue to go here (avoid the guy cashier-hopefully he slows down!) and get 75% of my groceries! read more

I just discovered Aldi's. It is a barebones store, but it has enough to satify me. I like their healthy ice cream and it was very good and very cheap. I bought a two pack of green peppers and they were the best I've ever had. Crisp, tasty and fresh. I will be going back there. read more

Rude employees and ruder customers at this location which is frequently out of stock in the basics. While I like aldi's, this location is a bit rough and not worth the hassle of being shoved by other customers, jammed with a shopping cart, cut in line in front of. I had high expectations for my first trip to Aldo but was very disappointed. The produce section was small and many items were old. Most disappointing was their weak selection of fresh organic products. No organic bread, flour, butter or creamer on my visit. Also I was surprised by how much floor space they gave to seasonal products. read more

If you want to save money, this is the place to shop. Re produce: I have bought salad, asparagus, pineapples, apples and watermelon. Everyone in my family raved about how fresh tasting these items were with the exception of the red delicious apples, which were tasteless. Even better, the salad (romaine and 4 head gourmet), asparagus, and pineapple stayed fresher much longer than similar items purchased as our local super Giant. Re health, read the labels. While they use high fructose corn syrup, I have yet to find artificial flavoring or dyes in the foods! As in Europe, items are flavored and colored with natural ingredients like spices (e,g, tumeric to color the cheese puffs) and fruit for flavor and color (e.g., yogurt and marachino cherries, for example). SO happy to get Aldi close to where I live! I hardly shop anywhere else, since I am on a very limited food budget ($25/week). I cook at home constantly, and I'm able to get almost all the ingredients I need here. Further, I eat healthily: fruit and vegetables make their way into my diet daily. Ramen only makes an occasional appearance in my home lol. I made a meat/veggie tomato sauce over pasta recently, using grass-fed beef and produce from Aldi. I really can't overemphasize how happy I am to have a grocery option that allows for me to eat well, since it's really hard to stay within budget nowadays! read more

Aldi is a gem in our neighborhood. We used to go to Shoppers for everything but we ended up spending more $ than we really needed. Ever since we started going here, since it's closer to where we live, we have enjoyed our experience here. Make sure to bring a quarter to get a cart and I definitely need to start bringing bags because they do not provide them when you go there. The selection is decent but it's not filled up like shoppers with a little bit of everything. Other than that I was impressed by the quality of produce/meat and the low prices. We go through 4 gallons of milk each week because of our kids and they are the cheapest compared to other stores. read more

I love shopping at Aldi and trader Joe's. This particular location has a good selection of items, especially chocolates! Their inexpensive wine collections are also quite nice! I have not bought their produces yet as they didn't have produces I normally get and the produces didn't seem quite fresh or well-stocked. The store is always clean and the staff are kind, helpful, and nice to work with. oh, they also have very clean bathrooms which was so helpful for me and my infant son when I had to nurse him in the middle of shopping. They have great weekly deals that I hope many people would take advantage of. Don't forget to bring a quater for their cart use and shopping bags to put your goodies in! I live nearby and I work out at planet fitness gym located nearby. For me it's a win-win combination. Love their fruits and meats. I wish they had a little less junk food and a little more healthy snacks. They also have a little bit of everything when it comes to housekeeping and even some cats/dogs food and products. Really good prices too! A few tips for newcomers... Bring your own bag. Bring a quarter, since shopping carts have to be locked and unlocked. It prevents them from being stolen and then dumped on the street. It's a good thing, since I constantly see shopping carts on side streets and even in the park nearby. read more

Great store for quick shopping! They have a little bit of everything and many unusual and gourmet items. I like bagging my own groceries, I bring my insulated bags, so I don't have to sort and repack everything in the trunk of my car in the parking lot. Their produce prices are many times much lower than elsewhere, e.g. where can you find yoghurt at 29 cents or a whole pineapple for 99 cents on sale? Also, every week they have special buys that are not grocery related. I have bought a Suncast lawn cart ($20 instead of $39 at Walmart), a roof carrier for my car, a floor fan etc., all for considerably less than I could find elsewhere. Can't wait for the Duke St. store to open, that will really be close to home, and just in time for the great selection of German Christmas cookies and candies. read more

Aldi is hands down one of my favorite grocery stores. It didn't occur to me how many people don't know about this hidden gem of a gem grocery store until I mentioned it to a few coworkers. I'm so excited that this store opened up in my neighborhood. It seems to have even more inventory that I have seen in other locations and the store is clean and the isles are spacious! There is plenty of parking out front. Bring your own reusable grocery bags and a quarter for the deposit for a shopping cart. U get it back when u return it. They have weekly special buys that are worth checking out. I've gotten $3 reading glasses with lights, exercise mini trampoline for $30, lots of interesting items, deeply discounted. This place has cheap staples with questionable quality. Makes a discount "shoppers" grocery store look like a whole foods. Tried it once and that will probably be it. I might save 10-20% on select major items but I'll just have to go to another store for all the other specialty items and decent food. I love how close it is to my apt + how cheap it is. Although the selection is minimum, my biggest issue is one of the cashiers that always seems to be working when I go in that has an attitude. I'm always stared down hatefully while waiting in the terribly long lines that they let back up & then the most recent visit was my last straw. The store doesn't provide bags as a cost cutter, & I love that for the environment, too. However, this cashier mocked me for having my own plastic bags from another store for some reason when I was checking out. She was laughing making jokes & even tossed items at me quickly & into the cart further from my reach making me scramble as I was trying to get out of the way fast for the next customer getting impatient...I was shamed & felt embarrassed. Visited this brand new location (only opened for three weeks), so the store was very neat, clean and well organized. Not a great variety of nutritional foods, but then again, this is an Aldi's store which is known for its reasonable prices on snack type foods, frozen foods, candy...not really the place to shop if you are looking for quality produce and meats, but definitely the place to shop for packaged "stuff". If you go to Aldi, bring a quarter to unlock each cart that you will use. You will get the quarter back when you return the cart. If it is your first time at Aldi, ask somebody how to get your quarter back. Take your own shopping bags or boxes - they don't have to be recyclable or you can buy bags from them. Heads-up: They do not bag your stuff for you whether you buy their bags or bring your own. They leave everything on the edge of the conveyer belt and you do the rest. While the products we bought were very good, there is almost no choice in brands or products. There aren't shelves and shelves of different brands and products. Aldi has the basics. If you cook fancy, you may not find what you need. If you want to cook a fancy pasta dish, Aldi doesn't have all the odd shaped pastas or all the exotic spices. Most of their products are weirdly named house brands manufactured by brand names and are supposed to be top quality. For example, they have only one type of peach in a choice of heavy or light syrup. We bought the house brand in light syrup and they were absolutely delicious - the best. read more

Good prices and fast checkout, but limited items (not much in the way of toiletries, for example). They now accept credit cards!

Be aware! Few times they overcharged me. During the check out you have no option to see what they have marked!? Only after you pay and get the receipt you can check ( if you check.) Only two registers are open and every time the cashiers are in a rush. The trick was they mark the similar items with the same higher price. For example, I bought frozen fruits: strawberry - $2.09, raspberry - $2.79 and ended up to pay twice raspberry. Because there is no Customer service desk and every time the lines are long, I've thought - 80 cents not a big deal, error could happen. But no long after, the same with the chocolates. They look the same but are not - one kind is $1.99 , another is $2.19. They charged me $2.19 for all chocolates. When I returned and asked for the difference cashier was kind of rude, there was no apology and called the manager. The woman that came (I can't believe was a manager) was no better than the cashier, unprofessional and arrogant. I felt guilty that I asked to refund me for the difference. The prices are no bad, but when they overcharge you the deal could be no so good. Check your receipt! read more
