Also, love all the local brands/makers they carry and they just keep upping their game outside of produce as well. In particular I'm mightly geeked that they carry Bird Dog Baking from Ypsi (love their rye teacake), White Lotus Farms (my husband can't stop raving about the pistachio blackberry croissant I brought him), Why Not Pie?, Harvest Kitchen, and more. And of course, my beloved Crust. Everyone here is so kind. The mission is so important. And their products are so great. Love having them so close by!

The only thing I wish, is that it was stroller friendly. It's mostly gravel so it's very inconvenient and probably damaging to the stroller. And there is a separate area by a lovely willow tree where you can get coffee, their home made root beer (will have to try that next time), and pastries. Now the pastries were AMAZING!!! I got their chocolate croissant and jalapeno popper croissant. Both were sooo delicious!! The chocolate croissant was very close to how Quebec makes them. It was soft and had the right amount of chocolate! The Jalapeno popper croissant filling was sooo unique and tasty!! I loved it! I will definitely be back! The bread was very good, filled with Kalamata olives. The morning bun sort of reminded me of a croissant with cinnamon sugar in a spiral shape, it was decent, but I wouldn't get it again. The food is bought during the harvest months and preserved and then you get it in the winter. I am far too lazy to actually do this myself, so this CSA is perfect for me! I've gotten corn, strawberries, blueberries, cranberries (awesome for Tgiving dinner), raspberries, pumpkin puree, tomatoes, squash, peaches...tons more that I can't think of off the top of my head. Yes, it is not cheap. I am about the cheapest person I know and even I will pay for this because the quality is that good. I also spent some time at the warehouse this summer and I saw first-hand the hard work that goes into the process of preserving this food. I will also say that I just paid $8 for a quart of blueberries. If the average price here is $7 per bag, I'm getting almost a full quart (I think it was 12 oz) of blueberries for that price. So I'm really only paying a little bit more and I don't have to actually freeze them. (Yeah I know it's not hard to freeze blueberries...did I mention that I'm not only the cheapest person I know, but the laziest??? :)) Seriously, this is a cool business. Check it out.

And the cost was also an issue. But Rena did a smart thing: She let people buy a sample package just before Thanksgiving without making a commitment for the whole season. And as soon as I tasted their frozen sweet corn, I knew I had to sign up. I handed over my money, picked up my first batch of fruits and veg and have never regretted it. Everything's relative, so unlike a previous reviewer who is always surprised at how little food she gets every month, I'm always surprised at how MUCH I get. Whatever freezing process they use, it works. Asparagus was nice and crisp, and the fruits retain so much more flavor than the frozen fruit you pick up in the grocery store. These foods are not fresh--they ARE frozen--so you can't expect them to be the same as fresh when they are thawed, but this produce comes as close as I think is possible. And it's so nice to be able to taste these delicious flavors in the dead of winter.

Feels almost like a mini mini Costco in that lots of things are available slightly more in bulk (or at least, family size), and shelving is set up almost warehouse like. Layout is straightforward to navigate - it's not a huge store so you can cover ground quickly. This feels like a really good base grocery spot. Go here to get the standard meats, produce, and essential pantry items at really good prices. A friend of a friend also told me some of their meat and fish items are fresh not frozen (at least salmon and pork ribs specifically? someone needs to fact check me on this though). The selection is smaller (so not the kind of grocery store where you have the option of 20 brands of the same item), but the sourcing feels intentional, with options with nicer ingredients, etc. Probably not going to find more specialty grocery items here. Yes this location does the quarter to get a shopping cart thing. I was prepared and it was straightforward to use. Recommend bringing your own bags - otherwise their paper bags are 12 cents each. When I went, it was self serve check out only, which was fine. But needed to get someone's help to ring up a 50% off deal on the salmon (got a large slab of Atlantic salmon for $10!!) and to purchase wine.

I found the streamlining at checkout to be a frazzle, a cashier flying through the purchase so fast she barely made eye contact. We always bag our own at home too but in this case you are pushed off to a fresh cart to move out of the way of the next cart being scanned. I guess if you are that rushed yourself, it b=might be a benefit, but I would never choose to shop this way. I also found the assortment of goods to be annoying lydeceiving, using boxes made to exactly mimic the brand item it replaced. Many stores have house brands, from Kroger to Whole Foods to Trader Joes, my regular stores at home. But they are clearly intended to show what they are replacing in branded items without appearing to trick the eye. That's fair. This did not seem fair. I did not mind the stacked boxes as shelves though I could see how that would be difficult for someone to maneuver safely, if they have a disability. I thought the European imports of sweet to be an option if they are legitimate products and not fakes. My host said they were as they have bought the sweets at the Christmas season and having lived in Europe themselves, were sure they were authentic and not counterfeit. So, bottom line, I will not want to go there again. I normally enjoy food shopping, whether at home or on a trip, and enjoy having a friendly exchange with the staff who serve me. I am sure this must be a very stressful work environment.
