Love westborn market! I've been to the Royal Oak location before and loved it so I was selfishly excited to be dating someone in Plymouth so I could check this one out as well. It's consistently spotlessly clean and the prepared foods selection is incredible. I love their $6 sushi Wednesday deal and the soups are priced by weight so you can try a little without having to commit to a large container. It's pricey though - especially some of the hot prepared foods can be upwards of $15/lb even for things like Mac and cheese. I also don't love that they don't have public WiFi. I haven't asked an employee for the code but if they do have it available this would be a fabulous place to get some work done during the day. They have a gorgeous patio and some seating indoors if you want to eat there and people (myself included) frequently do. They have cutlery you can use if you prefer to dine in. They have open and nice bathrooms in the basement where the wine shop is along with some fun vintage memorabilia from when the space used to be the post station. It's a really cool historical building and worth checking out for that alone. Not to mention it's in a great area of Plymouth and the employees are consistently nice. I always have a pleasant time at checkout. One star removed only for the prices, if it were a little cheaper it would easily be a 5 star from me. Um what a great find in the middle of the Art In The Park fair!! We needed AC and this place was a lifesaver!! From the moment you walk in, there are plants everywhere and it's pretty inviting. To the right is a seating area and to the left is the entrance. Their house plants are only $5! They have so many good snacks, coffee, fruit, etc! If we lived closer, we would have bought Traverse Michigan Cherries from them. Instead, we got coffee beans and were so thankful to find normal bathrooms (hate portapotties)! read more

My second favorite part of Westborn market is finding weird foods, or weird presentations of foods, to try. This is the first place I saw white strawberries (several years ago) and on my most recent visit I found fresh soursop in a bottle! I am so excited to try it as I love soursop, and it's kind of a pain to eat and prepare. My favorite quality of this store is its local focus. I popped in here for a couple of bags of groceries for a weekend getaway. I wanted high quality, unique items, and Westborn delivered. On top of that, most of them were locally produced, even better. They have local staples like Sander's chocolates, but lots of lesser known ones, too. The daily prepared meals continue to shine (bourbon glazed chicken thighs, mac and cheese, roasted vegetables). They also have vegetable and fruit trays, freshly cut. Though I skipped them this time, you continue to find a lot of in-house and brought in sweets and treats, a sizable wine and beer selection (basement), and a good amount of staples (that will be pricey). They also have lovely fresh flowers and plants for gifting or to light up your own life. read more

I was so excited to order a carrot cake from their bakery given the great reviews for this market. Sadly, I was completely disappointed. The cake was dry. There was way more frosting than cake. And the frosting was way too sweet. It's a shame, really. How could such a "high quality" market sell such a disappointing bakery item such as a cake? The cake didn't even taste like a carrot cake at all. More like a spice cake than a carrot cake. What a waste. I have had carrot muffins from McDonald's that were far superior to their carrot cake. read more

Time to update my review by writing about one of my favorite Westborn treats. Westborn carries items from the Crust Bakery in Fenton. Just about everything from Crust is delicious, but I absolutely love their Peanut Butter and Jelly Donut! It's a super substantial donut. The peanut butter comes from a glaze the delivers on the peanutty flavor without sticking to the roof of your mouth. The filling is a not overly sweet raspberry jelly that is the perfect complement. Once I get me donut, I walk it over to the cute little wine bar in one of the front corners of the store. They sell freshly brewed expresso coffees here, and they are delicious. read more

Shopping here can be fun if you have an unlimited budget. Westborn is not for bargain shoppers. It is a gourmet market, and this one in downtown Plymouth is more upscale, i.e., expensive, than other Westborn locations. Despite the higher price and small size, the store is beautiful in the old post office building. The city wouldn't feel the same without Westborn, and I enjoy shopping here. The fruits and vegetables are fresh, and the service is always excellent. read more

It comes as no surprise to friends that I love grocery stores. I love walking up and down the aisles discovering new ingredients and products. Prior to COVID, I shopped at a grocery store 3-4x/wk. Even when visiting a new city, I try to beeline to a grocery store to see what is being offered. I've previously shopped at both the Dearborn and Livonia locations (and still do) so I had high expectations going in. Given that, I have been shopping at the Plymouth location since it opened. There is a smallish parking lot adjacent to the store but pro-tip, try to grab a spot somewhere close by rather than rely on the lot. During a recent holiday week, the store was busier than usual. This time around I was on the lookout for a specific ingredient - fish sauce - for a Brussels sprouts dish I was making. Given the smaller store size, I did not think I would find it amongst the sauces and condiments. Luckily, the store carried two brands. Yay - my recipe was saved. The store includes a limited but impressive fresh produce area and a butcher counter. It boasts a lovely bakery area with some loaves and treats from Crust, a wonderful bakery in Fenton. The raisin and sesame loaves of bread were incredible. I was less impressed with the nutty doughnut, which tasted stale. There is also a large prepared foods area; I will need to spend more time there to savor the various entrées (chicken, lamb, sausages) and sides (mashed potatoes, stuffing, mushrooms, asparagus, and cauliflower, to name a few). Wowza! What a great place to find Michigan made and grown food products like Cherry Republic salsa and La Fiesta handmade tortilla chips-two items I was in desperate need of! Westborn's is not only pretty to look at on the outside, it is pretty on the inside and stuffed with the best of the best, both Michigan and not! Like-Jeni's ice cream. One of the biggest selections I've seen of late. It's from a little spot down the road (Ohio!) but don't hold that against them, you Michiganders! Creamy smooth and always with a unique blend of flavors, it is phenomenally good! At the other end of the palate thermometer, I found Carroll Shelby's chili mix, a Texas favorite that's not always easy to find up here, y'all! But, hold on there! That's not all! Westborn's is a fabulous place to grab food to go from their hot and cold cases. I had a veggie plate packed with roasted butternut squash, corn casserole and mac and cheese for $9.99 with portions so large, it made two meals for me! Great selection of meats, pastas and salads as well. Fresh and delicious. I was lunching with a friend and we grabbed a couple of bottled drinks and headed out to umbrellas tables for patio dining. Fantastic there's a Westborn downtown here, had no idea. It wasn't here when I lived here a lifetime ago. It's convenient since there's a small parking lot here at least. Stopped by for some produce and basic grocery items and picked up a gourd or two for decoration too. Keep in mind their hours are different during covid. Check ahead to make sure they are open. We live close to the other Westborn, (royal oak), so I wanted to check this one out when we were in Plymouth. This one is just so cute.. eccentric really... housed in an old post office with an outdoor patio and next to a funky coffee house. This Westborn is really more of a prepared foods/take out place with a smaller grocer.. royal oak is much more market with small prepared foods in the back. Really cute place to see if you're in town. I was alone and looking to take home lunch but found a few foods not readily available at all markets: Panda tofu (in produce section in three flavors), uncle Peters pasties, (chicken and beef) and chicken or vegetable pot pies, a kombucha on tap with refillable growlers!!! Popped into today needing a few grocery items for a bit of a Valentine's Day dinner for my fella. It's a small-ish market, maybe not the place you would do your weekly big shopping, but if you need a good cut of meat, a bit of produce, or other small items it's perfect. I found everything I needed save for a couple of speciality cheeses that I knew would be a long shot to find anywhere but a dedicated cheese monger. Chocolate, produce, good bread (they carry my regional fave Crust!), a bit of dairy, and such all made its way out with me. Their focus is on local and I love it. Calder dairy, Crust bread, Sander's chocolate, etc etc. You can find it all here. Like other Westborns, they also have a nice floral area with both bouquets and potted plants. Desserts look delicious and there's a really solid grab and go area filled with pre-made soups, a hot bar, and other things that make dinner or lunch a snap if you don't feel like cooking. There's also a wine bar for sipping and a great patio for warmer months. read more

I love me a "boutique" market to browse. There's so much here that's farm fresh and unique. I'm a budgeter so the store as a whole is above my price range but I shop here when I need ingredients for special occasions or a quick gallon of milk or loaf of bread. They also have a small wine bar, large prepared foods section, and a little dining area outside you can eat and drink in. A few big highlights are their lunchmeat, which is reasonably priced and so good. The produce is so fresh, there's literally oil that seeps out when you squeeze their lemons. They are super in cocktails! The coffee is a grind your own situation, so it's fresh and smells amazing, but they also have bagged coffee. They carry BonBonBons seasonal collections usually and a plethora of other Michigan made, local products. The entire downstairs is full of homegoods and wine. They have a large selection of fabulous wines. There is also a floral section with beautiful blooms. read more

This is a great eclectic little market! They have unique foods and coffees. There's also a myriad of sweets! There's a great lighted and semi closed patio. We got "take out" dinner & then took our food & sat out on the patio & had dinner! There are very special desserts and entree items. They had several different kinds of chips, cookies, snacks etc. There's a great many aisles full of various foods and drinks. The people who work here are very helpful and kind. I got some great tasting specialty coffee and the entire store and cafe were decorated beautifully for Fall! It's a great place for a couple to go for a fun lunch or dinner on a patio! read more

This review addresses the deli rather than the store at large (about the latter I will just say that the inventory looks varied and interesting and the prices average to slightly above). My wife and I ventured in for a weekday lunch and surveyed their list of prepared items. My wife ordered the chicken and waffles. Alas, no chicken for that was available. None of the other items looked good to her, as most of the entrees were heavy (burgers, short ribs, BBQ, pizza/flatbreads), and most of the salads contained bleu cheese, which she doesn't like. She ended up getting a premade turkey sandwich from the deli case, which was unexceptional, though a bit overpriced @ $3.99. That isn't a lot, but the money would be better spent at most sandwich chains. I got the brussels sprouts salad. The sprouts were too blackened for my taste--most really were more like croutons than vegetables. The maple-bleu cheese dressing was good, and didn't make the salad overly sweet, though a superabundance of dried cherries did. Some turkey or beef in place of the cherries would have improved this a lot. It took a long time for my salad to come. We were eating in, though had to sit along a wall since the handful of tables were occupied. Westborn is really geared for takeout. I can see grabbing a few specialty groceries or beer or wine here, but would not revisit the "bistro." read more

Oh how I wish I had more time to shop at Westborn. I popped in for a peruse just before closing on a Thursday night. The guys were packing up the produce but were happy to let me shop. I picked up a gallon of milk, container of mascapone, few choice goodies from the bakery case, and the sale on San Pelligrino sodas was too good to pass up. The cashier told me about the second level of wine and housewares, downstairs. Take the stairs or elevator - there is a lot of neat stuff to consider for purchase. Interesting and usual wines, beer and kitchen gadgets. The entry and exits are small - which was strange for a market. I almost wasn't sure if I was going the right way but there was no other exit. Past the registers, through the doors, you are on the patio of seasonal decor, outdoor items, some produce and displays. It was really neat. I just wish I had more time to check out everything. There is so much, it would take a couple visits but good thing they are so far from me, as I would probably bring home most of the store. read more

I have only bought things from the bakery so far, and I highly recommend doing so. They have a variety of sweets like cakes, cupcakes, cannolis, fruit tarts, etc; I recently just bought a cake from here for my dad's birthday and he loved it! The good: it's convenient if you live in Plymouth; and they have a reasonable if not impressive selection of high-end and gourmet groceries. The bad: the prices are higher than they should be, even for a high end store and the quality of the prepared food is underwhelming. Also, the quality of customer service seems to depend on whether you're a regular. The inexplicable: last week, I bought a package of dried chilis there, and when I got home I discovered that it was three months past its expiration date. No matter what, no grocery store should ever sell any food item that is three months past its expiration date. read more

Would probably be a good idea to place the employees that are under 18 in a different part of the store other than the cash registers. Every time I shop at the store, if I or the person in front of me is purchasing alcohol we have to wait for someone over 18 to ring up the sale, which doesn't happen quickly. My wife and I recently moved to the area from Downriver, where we had a wonderful European market called Concessi's that we liked to shop at. The store had character, the employees were friendly and the selection was fantastic. We've fallen in love with Trader Joe's since moving to the area but a part of us still missed having a store like Concessi's. On Sunday, we stopped into Westborn Market and quickly realized our search for a replacement was over. The store has kept a number of the old post office items and has incorporated it into the décor, which gave the store a folksy, small-town feel. The deli selection wasn't as vast as what you may find at other stores but the items they did have were quality brands. The same goes for the grocery area. The selection may be somewhat limited but of the items they do have they are quality products. Nonetheless, this was fine with both of us because my wife and I are both comfortable with a store putting their focus on quality rather than quantity. We explored every aisle in the store and ended up buying much more than just the eggs and sausage we had originally came in for. To my surprise, my wife informed me that there was an elevator that led to the downstairs, which is where the beer, wine and home goods are kept. We both took a trip downstairs and was pleased with what we encountered. Again, the old post office layout and décor were part of the experience on the lower level, and their selection of beers and wines were larger than expected. While we were down there a couple was sampling some wines so it appears as though they have a worker that is stationed in the area that will provide samples of certain wines, which is nice when you're on the fence about a wine and don't want to take a risk in buying something you may not enjoy. The store was rather busy while we were there but, in spite of this, the workers maintained their composure and were polite and helpful the entire time we were there. When we left my wife said that she really liked the store and that she will definitely be back. I agree with her and both of us can sincerely recommend Westborn Market to anyone in the area. read more
