When it comes to apple orchards, you can do the "theme park" orchards or the "actual orchard"…read moreorchards. Jonamac is definitely the theme park version. Although you can buy tickets in advance, it doesn't save you time at the orchard. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait in line with all the people buying tickets with cash. You will save a few bucks buying online, however. The wait to get in is disappointing, but understandable. Just budget that into your timeline. When you enter, you'll pass lots of kid-friendly activities. The orchard itself is very small, and the trees are tiny. When we arrived October 7, most of the trees had been pretty well picked over. There were maybe 10 rows of apples available for picking. If you're looking specifically for apples, there are better options, like the nearby Honey Hill Orchard in Waterman. Jonamac does earn decent marks for the children's activities. There's a corn bin where your kids can play and slide. There are a couple of games inside. There's a trough where you can pump water and send rubber ducks down a chute. There's a slide and a petting zoo and one of those jumping pillows. There's a cider house, but we didn't go in because the line was out the door. Food trucks roll in around noon. The crowds really swell around that time. You can also buy pumpkins We got fresh cider and donuts from the bakery shop at the front. If you have small children, Jonamac is pretty good. If you're looking for bushels and bushels of apples, you'll probably want to go somewhere else with a more robust harvest.

This was not my first encounter with her, and while I initially gave her the benefit of the doubt, her rude and dismissive attitude has remained the same over multiple visits. Most recently, on Sunday, 9/21, her demeanor was once again unfriendly and unwelcoming. In contrast, the younger staff members are always pleasant, attentive, and helpful, which I greatly appreciate. We picked Cody's farm because there wasn't an entry fee, it wasn't too far, and someone picked up the phone when I called to answer all my questions. You purchase an empty bag for picking apples before starting. A bag costs $30 and holds ~ 30 pounds according to them which works out to $3 a pound. The weather was nice and it was plenty of apple trees to pick from. There were only a couple of other people picking apples while we were there. I imagined these huge trees with apples high up to reach for, but all the trees were around 4 to 5ft. There was several very long rows of different apple trees to walk up and down. I am now convinced to get an apple tree for my back yard since the size isn't huge. The farm had play areas and activities for children so it is a cool place to bring the kids. We hit the store and I bought apple cider donuts that just happened to be really delicious. Most of the produce and products seemed to be a little pricey, but I'm thinking everything is supposed to be organic so the prices are mor. I would definitely return and bring little ones if I had any to spend a day out here.

It's nothing fancy - no gimmicks - and very reasonably priced. Granny's provides buckets for picking and bags to take your berries home. They have super-clean port-a-potties and the staff (family) is very friendly and helpful. They have also been known, in the past, to share samples of baked goods for their customers. This is one of our favorite places to visit and you would really miss out on some awesome berries if you don't try Granny's.
