We recently dropped in here for the first time, and this was the most impressive Aldi of 'em all! It's relatively new, bright, well organized, and very spacious with wide aisles and a tall ceiling. It's the biggest Aldi I have seen anyway. The parking is also plentiful as it is at the end of a big strip mall and located next to a quiet Kohl's. Besides coffee, I've personally started paying more attention to Aldi's wine offerings as I recently saw from a reliable source (YouTube lol) that besides other good values, they have exceptionally good wine selections and values. read more

I've come here twice more since my initial 4-star review. Both times were on a weekend day and both times they were severely understaffed. I was here earlier today (1:30 on a Saturday). There were two cashiers/lanes open. That was it. There were at least 15 people in each line. They don't have self checkout, which is annoying because I much prefer that (especially since I'm only ever buying like 2 loaves of bread and that's it). Most people in line had huge carts full of groceries. At least they don't bag groceries so that cuts down on some of the time it takes to get customers through the checkout, but only 2 lanes open on a Saturday afternoon is bonkers. Why do they have like 8 checkout lanes if they aren't going to staff them when the store is packed? Also, the stock today and the last time I was there wasn't great. I didn't see any employees in the aisles stocking today so I don't know if they only had 2 people working entirely or if they just ran out of stuff or what. It's really luck of the draw when you come here. read more

Avoid this store - Hostile Management at Store #48I have been a loyal customer at this Glenview ALDI location for a long time, but I will never step foot in here again after the disgusting treatment I received from the store manager today.A new cashier was struggling with a jammed cash drawer while a line of 6+ people formed behind me. My bill was $30.55 and I had handed over $31.00. To help free up the line and save them the trouble, I pulled out exact coins from my wallet and asked if I could just take my dollar back and leave. The cashier called the manager for help.The manager stormed out from the back with a massive attitude, told the cashier to pop the register open with a paperclip, and completely snapped at me. When I politely explained that I was trying to give them exact change to keep the line moving, she literally THREW my dollar bill back at me on the counter and snapped, "Here, now go!"When I asked her why she was treating me so aggressively when I did nothing wrong, she repeatedly flicked her hand at me, waved me away like garbage, and yelled "Just get out now!" in front of a crowded store.It is shocking that ALDI puts people with zero manners or customer service skills in charge of a store. Avoid this location until corporate cleans up the management team here. Batavia division needs to check the security tapes for Register 1 and retrain their leadership. read more

I enjoy the new layout of Aldi. It is so open and easy to locate items to purchase. During the times of COVID, this Aldi doesn't only have hand sanitizer available upon entry but it also has sanitizing wipes alongside to wipe down your shopping carts. Upon entry, you are greeted by the fruits and veggies section as well as the organic aisle. I love Aldi's commitment to organic and healthy options as well as offering some of the name brand and staple foods. They positioning all the dry and non-stop perishable foods towards the inside of the store and outlined the edge of the store with perishable and refrigerated/frozen items. Quite simple thinking and planning but not readily implemented in various other grocery stores. I also love their weekly/seasonal specials. It reminds me of the McRib at McDonalds. It is limited and if it's good, it keeps you wanting more. Lastly, I appreciate their commitment to their customers which is evident during checkout lines. If the cashiers see that the lines are starting to grow, they stop what they are doing immediately to request another cashier to open up. I also like the fact that they accept Apple pay. There are times that I forgot to bring my wallet and was still able to make a transaction via my iPhone and/or Apple watch. Lastly, I believe every company with shopping carts should implement Aldi's $0.25 requirement. You cannot use a cart without a $0.25 deposit into that cart. You only receive your $0.25 back upon returning the cart to it's specific cart location. Genius yet simple thinking of you all me. It limits the amount of carts needed for the employees to retrieve. BIG, NEW, BEAUTIFUL ALDI. This Aldi on Willow Road in Glenview opened in Dec 2019. I'm sure many of you have shopped at Aldi. They have a great range of food items @ a lower price point then most grocery stores As you may know Aldi's origins are from Germany. From humble beginnings brothers Karl & Theo Albrecht have turned Aldi into a 38 billion dollar empire w/1,600 stores in the US. Trader Joe's and ALDI are Owned by a German company called Albrecht Discounts, ALDI is a discount grocery chain that started in Germany in 1948. This particular location is larger & more spacious then most of the other Aldi's. The interior space has a large volume of space w/higher ceilings giving it an airy spacious feeling. Clean spacious & beautifully done. If you like Aldi you will love this store. read more

This is quite an underrated grocery store. Aldi keeps costs down by giving you an experience that is solid but a bit inconvenient. However, if you know this going in and do your homework, it is not jarring. You have to deposit a quarter (which you get back) for taking a cart, and you have to bag your own groceries. The latter is not super fun, but it makes you appreciate what they do for you at other stores! They also keep costs down by not having fancy-looking aisles - think of lots of warehouse-style boxes, especially for produce. But they make up for that functional look with some nice touches, high ceilings, and super wide aisles! It feels very clean and airy. This store to me seems like an aesthetic mix of Costco and Trader Joe's. The selection is good, if not great. I found it pleasantly surprising the variety they have, but of course, I was not able to find everything. The house brand is pretty legit - it makes everything from lobster ravioli to take-and-bake pizza to chicken cutlets. The pricing is cheap to moderate - I still paid $10 for raw shrimp, but that's hardly expensive for shrimp. (Note: They are awesome quality and are peeled/shelled, but don't be fooled...you still have to devein them!) They weren't understaffed, but there are not tons of employees. One was extremely loud for no reason when he spoke to people. The wine and liquor selection is nice too. The $3 wine was pretty good! read more

I love Aldi and the employees at the Glenview. I started shopping there at the beginning of the Pandemic. We did most of our shopping there and filled in at Woodman's or Jewel. I asked a woman why this store has empty shelves and out of most of the products I like to purchase while the Vernon store is stocked to the hilt. I love this no-frills German grocery chain and am thrilled they finally opened one in the northern suburbs. This bright new store boasts all the usual Aldi items. I come here for two things: Excitamints and lactose-free skim milk. If you've never tried their sugar-free sour apple mints, you don't know what you are missing. The only thing I don't like is that you need a quarter to use a shopping cart. It is refunded at the end, but who carries change any longer? read more

This is the Aldi of all Aldis. Great layout, always very well stocked and the aisles are much bigger and wider. Very modern look and it's a new store. They also have great specials on meat and other items if you look closely. Definitely worth your time to check out. read more

My very first Aldi experience today and it sure was an experience. I have heard two things about this brand and they are both true: the store is unique and the prices are great. With 3 out of 5 stars, there is more good than bad here. Let's get to the details. Bad: The major turnoff, the big obstacle comes at you even before you enter the store. Most unwelcoming - all the shopping carts are locked! Apparently you need a quarter to unlock and use the cart. You do get it back at the end, but who cares? I don't have the quarter to begin with. What do you do? I could have read one of the many articles online with instructions on "How to shop at Aldi" (seriously, there are tons of articles), which I discovered after my shopping trip. Instead, the uninitiated me entered the store ready to beg for some change. A sympathetic cashier allowed me to use one of the loose carts near the cash registers, as long as I promised her to return it to the same spot. Score. Never have I ever feel so victorious by simply getting my hands on a shopping cart. See, told you this was an experience. Another bummer came at the very end when I learned that the cashiers do not bag your groceries for you. Perhaps if they did, the store would have to give them a raise which would reflect in higher prices for the customers? Whatever the reason, I can handle the bagging myself, I suppose. But when I feel the need to pamper myself, I will visit a different grocery store chain to enjoy the luxury of somebody else bagging your groceries:) I did bring a reusable bag which was a good idea because they don't give you plastic or paper bags. However, they are available for purchase. Another option would be to use an empty carton box. Good: Yes, the prices are low. Also, the store is spacious and bright. The height of the aisles is kept low which adds to the open space feeling. Keep in mind: The selection is not what you are used to from a regular supermarket. There were some basic items they did not have. And for many products they only carry one kind or one brand. My advice: Read a "how to" tutorial and bring a 25c coin and a reusable bag. If you were planning on ordering groceries delivered from here I'd look elsewhere. Just took a order for lemons, bananas, bronze cut pasta, ricotta, and olive oil. Unless you order organic bananas they are all thrown in a box and mostly bruised. They didn't have any long bronze cut or ricotta. This happens all the time. Usually a clean and organized store with good produce and groceries. One time I was here they didnt have any fresh bananas. But ive gotten good avocados and great salmon from here among other things. Checkout lines typically dont take too long either. read more

I am not a regular shopper at the store, but decided to stop by for 2-3 things, as I was in the area anyways. Before today, I was only at this store once. There was a nice guy at the store who helped me with an item in the frozen section. That's a plus. Nice selection of reasonably priced cold cuts, hummus, dairy products. Another plus. Salads looked wilted. Hard pass. When I got my 3 items I came for, I made my way to the cash registers. As I was walking up to the cashier farthest from the entrance door (undefined age, bleached blond hair, glasses), she saw me approach and slapped the "closed" sign on the belt as she was making an eye contact with me. I turned around, went to the other cashier, and saw that there was a shopper there already unloading a cart full of stuff. I thought, OK, what can you do... As I moved away from the first cashier, she just removes her "closed" sign, and right away another shopper comes over and starts unloading her cart full of stuff, then another one with a cart full of groceries lines up, and everything proceeds as if nothing happened. So, what is going on here? face control? clueless and untrained? just plain rude and disrespectful? - I don't really care. But it's a definite minus. Even if it is a "discount' store, it is not really that cheap to treat customers so disrespectfully. In fact, I went to Trader Joe's right after, and, for the same prices you get people who go above and beyond to help you in the store in any way they can. So to balance the points: 5 stars to the guy in the store, minus 5 stars to the rude cashier, 3 stars to the store itself. read more

It's about time they opened a store of this kind in the north suburbs. The quality and selection are just as good as those that charge much higher for the same type of items. Aldi's is owned by the same franchise as Trader Joe's, so think of this is a cut-rate version of TJ's. There are many organic and gluten-free selections offered at Aldi's for those who seek those offerings. Aldi's stores are super-clean and I appreciate the wide aisles so you don't feel like your bumping shoulders with other shoppers'. In return for the lower-prices, one does have to bag their own groceries & pay a refundable 0.25 for use of a shopping cart. Try this store if you're tired of being over-charged for groceries without forfeiting quality. You may not find everything you desire at Aldi's but you will find the majority of grocery staples and them some!
