If you're looking for high quality Korean food at cheaper prices...in a Korean grocery store then go to Joong Boo Market (중부시장) in Glenview. With multiple locations this is the one I love to come to when I'm missing that authentic Korean feel. The only of the three locations that has an entire floor dedicated to its food court. And all of their dishes are served with quality 반찬 (side dishes) that are different depending on what main dish you order! Service is pretty prompt as it is counter service and they even have grab n go sushi trays off to the side! Even when it's crowded (as it often can get especially Sunday after church hours) it still feels so cozy. One of my 'hideouts' I love Joong Boon and what it has to offer.
I wanted to try an item from Joong Boo Market and went to the cafe for a quick bite. Parking lot has ample spaces. The cafe has a different door entrance and is on another floor. One can see the market on the first floor from the cafe floor. The cafe had several vendors and many tables. I was happy to go straight to the vendor which had exactly what I wanted: the Pork Wang Dumpling. It tasted so delicious! Outside was tasty and inside pork was flavorful - just what I ordered. Cashier was friendly and helpful. Lots of customers enjoying their lunch where there are plentiful tables. I took my order to go and enjoyed it very much. Cheers!~
This market is a shell of what it used to be... and prices are not great. Schaumburg is 1000% better in inventory/stock and value. Food Courts dont compare either. Maybe do a collab with Hmart or someone and get that space fully utilized... Hmarts mini market version down the street jas better deli options too.
Not only is Joong Boo Market a solid Korean grocery store, with a good, cheap, fresh selection of groceries, they also have a really good food court (separate entrance). There's several kiosks in the food court, but we usually go to the main one. Wait in line, tell them your order, pay, and they hand you a beeper/pager to tell you when the food is ready. By the end of your dining experience, the beeping noise will be engrained in your head, since you will hear the beep-beep-beep, beep-beep-beep from everyone else's pager. The main kiosk we go to, have over 30 items on their menu, but we gravitate usually to the same items, as they are consistently good. We get the ox-knee soup, soft tofu soup, and stir-fry squid. They all come piping-hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. . Grab some hot or cold water from the dispenser, and some cocktail napkins, and you're all set.

I normally shop at HMart or Mitsuwa when I need to stock up on Asian products, but I was in the area so I stopped at Joong Boo. I was so impressed! I found all of the items that were on my list and then some! The produce section was excellent, the setup was easy to find products, and they had infinite choices of many brands (many unknown to me). The only item I did not see was tobiko, but it was early and the sushi section did not look like it was stocked yet. I guess that means I'll have to come back. My new boo, Joong Boo!
I really liked this place! They have so many more items in the store than Hmart does! I was impressed with the diverse selections and freah seafood. We were looking for the café to eat food ans one of the workers saw us ans kindly directed us to go out then around ans upstairs to find the cafeteria. When we got upstairs I ordered the Pork kimchi stew. It came with kimchi and radish as well as beans, rice and potatoes salad. The kimchi stew was so good and not too spicy, the rice was cooked perfectly and the potato salad was also delicious which was surprising because I never go for the potato salad. My Pork Kimchi stew only had one piece or pork in it which was disappointing, I kind of felt like they didnt give me a lot because im not Korean.. :/ but I'm very well versed in korean cuisine.. maybe next time ill ask for extra. The seating area was so large with plenty of seating, napkins and complimentary cups of water. Over all I will be back, I absolutely love the store and regardless of the service, service doesn't matter when the food is authentic and delicious!
Y'all are sleeping on Joong Boo market!!! If you go upstairs to the second floor of the food court, you'll see a giant menu of Korean food. My comfort food for Korean cuisine will always be soup or dolsot bibimbap. It is the best bang for your buck for this meal. You get banchan and free soup on the side and they make the stone bowl HOT so the bottom of your rice is crunchy and crispy. Such a good meal when you're craving something warm. My mouth is currently salivating thinking about this meal.
I've visited Seoul Korea and this market is as close as it gets to replicating a Korean grocery store in the US. Similar to an H Mart, but with a nice food court upstairs. It was a little difficult to find the stairs (you have to go outside to the right of the main entrance). Food- 5/5 I ordered a fish stew dish and it was seriously amazing! At a fancier resturant, this would be double the cost. Service- 5/5 The sweet lady who took my order was the real deal. Value- 5/5 I would come back here again for the prepared foods and the unique items they have in the grocery store. I wish I had a store like this closer to where I live. Definitely worth a visit if in the area.
Great grocery store for Korean groceries and a quick meal. This Joong Boo location is newer and more spacious than the Chicago location. Prices are comparable to Hmart. Some items more expensive and some cheaper. I like this Joong Boo food court more than the Hmart food courts in the area. Although there are only 2 restaurants in the food court, there's a decent variety of foods between the 2. To get to the food court, you need to go through a separate door to the right and head up to the second floor. To the left, you can get Korean dumplings and blood sausage. The stall in the middle has a lot of generic items, and some daily specials. They've got your usual soft tofu stew, short rib soup, blood sausage stew, spicy squid, etc.. There's naengmyeon on the daily specials too. You can also order lunch box sets. The food is pretty good for the location and price. Each meal typically comes with 3 sides, and I think the quality is a step above what you'd usually expect at a food court. When you pick up your food, there's an area with condiments and seasonings that you can use to your liking depending on what you're eating. Trays can be returned through the window on the far right. I like that I look forward to eating here if I'm buying groceries. Whereas when I go to Hmart, I feel a bit disappointed if I end up eating at their food court.
Great Asian grocery store and food court. If you love H-Mart and other Asian grocery chains, this one should be on your list. Joong Boo is mainly geared toward Korean food and grocery. But, very extensive selection of items. Lots of free samples around the store too. If you enjoy exploring new foods, this is a great place! Also, the food court offers quick, authentic Korean food. My only negative is the bibimap barely had any meat and was not as good as some others I've had. But, still decent. Overall: highly recommend. Great Asian market. read more

I like the store but don't appreciate the way to sell frozen fish. Their frozen fish sold in the bag are laced with thick ice, and a two pound bag of fish weights less than 1.5 lb after defrost. The store makes extra money by cheating. read more

The market itself is very organized and well-stocked, but the real highlight of Joong Boo Market is the food court upstairs! It's always busy, but there's plenty of seating available. The food comes out fast, fresh, and delicious--no matter what you order, you can't go wrong. They give you a buzzer that goes off when your food is ready, and when you're done eating, you're expected to clear your tray and put it away... super efficient. I wish we had this market in Michigan! read more

food court review: whenever i crave korean food, i always want joongboo. they have the most authentic taste and the most affordable korean food. i've gotten the katsu several times and it is always so good. i love dipping mine in the sauce rather than pouring the sauce over it. the salad is good too. i've also gotten the seolleongtang, jjajangmyun, hwedupbap, dduk mandu guk, plus more i'm probably not remembering. out of these, i probably liked the latter two the least but they were still good. note the jjajangmyun sells out fast so i recommend getting it close to when they open! read more

Not sure why it took us so long to check out Joong Boo. We opted in going to the Glenview location over the Kimball because the dining area seemed much more spacious. Above the market, there is a separate food court with the mandoo snack corner and their main dining restaurant. The space is huge so you definitely don't have to worry about getting seats. From the snack corner, we got the spicy pork kimchi mandoo. I was amazed by this because I'm used to viet/Chinese bao, I didn't know there was a Korean version. I loved the filling.. so flavorful and it packed a spicy punch for sure. Addictive for sure. I could eat one everyday if it were closer to the city! For our mains, we got the marinated beef plate and galbitang. The portions for the price.. we were so excited. Coming from the city, everything is a little more pricey and most of the time, not as good. The galbitang felt like a nice home cooked meal. So generous with the meat too.. I don't have anything bad to say about this place! We will be making the drive more often because it is that good. I'm interested in trying the tofu soup, stir fried octopus, and black bean noodles next time! read more
Joong Boo Market has an extensive amount of choices for asian groceries, particular for Korean ingredients and produce. The store is quite clean though isles are quite narrow. Prices here are quite good. The best part of Joong Boo is there cafe (food court) on the second floor. It's quite spacious in the food court itself but parking in this plaza is quite compact and it is always full. Be prepared to spend time circling or following people to their vehicles. Ordering can take a while as it moves fairly slowly and during peak meal hours on the weekend the wait time to order can be long. Once your order is in and you receive a pager, food comes out fairly quickly. FYI at least for their stews and soups, they are unable to adjust spice levels as they are already made. My go to is the kalbi tang (short rib soup) It is better here than many restaurants in the area and for $15, it can't be beat. I need to get around to trying more of their soups but the kalbi tang is just that good. The broth is so tasty as it has such a deep meaty and umami flavor to it. They also do not skimp out on the meat, which comes on the bone and is so tender. The soup also comes with large Korean glass noodles and green onions. The soups always come out piping hot and the bowls really retain the heat. All their soups come with rice and a few banchan (Korean side dishes), kimchi, pickled cucumbers, pickled bean sprouts or other sides. The sides here aren't the most flavorful but have good heat to them. Kids always go for the pork tokatsu which they love. The pork itself didn't have much flavor but the breading was nice and crunchy. Portions here are quite large so expect to bring something back. They do charge $1 for containers so bring your own containers to save some money. read more

I absolutely LOVE Joong Boo! I highly recommend shopping at this market if you haven't before! Their produce is amazing! There is so much variety and if you are adventurous you can enjoy trying some new items you may not be familiar with! My favorite kimchi brand is sold here. There is a grandma on the label. The radish and cabbage kimchi is absolutely amazing. I eat some of it daily! My fiancé and I also LOVE their meat section. You can buy the most beautiful cuts of beef, cuts of pork, and chicken here. We stock up each time we come. They also have an awesome fish section. They also sell beautiful sashimi platters! The aisles are full of amazing products as well. They sell my favorite curry brand (Maesri) here too! We also love to check out the snack section. You seriously can't go wrong with anything here. They also have a really nice food court that my fiancé and I recently had lunch at! The food is made fresh there and very delicious. Note, the portions are huge! All of the staff we have come across have been so friendly too! The service is great and I recommend Joong Boo to anyone! read more
A great Asian market, but also a great selection at the food court! I've shopped here before, but have never eaten there in person. We've ordered a couple times for lunch at work and we get it through grubhub. Ordering and delivery is always seamless! I usually get the tteokbokki or bibimbap but this time I got the sullongtang and SO YUMMY! It comes with seasoning to flavor it to your liking, rice to eat with the soup, and kimchi! Soup made of bone broth with beef and tripe inside, which I love! We ALWAYS GET THE KINCHI PORK DUMPLINGS! Best we've ever had!! Def recommend! And it's in a great strip for all your Asian snacking needs! Paris baguette, Kung fu tea, and lots of Asian restaurants around it! Check it out!! read more
Joong Boo Market is an Asian grocery store with a wide selection of products. Despite being below average in size, Joong Boo Market has a big selection of fresh, frozen, and packaged items. They make up for this by making the aisles very small and difficult to get through. Today, my husband and I were looking for food for a backyard barbecue that we were going to. We picked up some meats, bread, and sweets to take. The meats were pre-marinated and were too spicy for my taste. The almond bread that we chose was a delight. It came from an Asian bakery in Chicago and had a secret layer of sweet cream in the middle. There is also a food court with a great selection of freshly made items. There is a cafe on the second floor of Joong Boo market serving a bunch of Korean comfort food options. The ambiance is like food court but there are only two counters - one is hot food and the other is for Bao and dumplings. You order first and pick up the food at the counter when it is ready. I ordered 8. soondae soup. I love soon dae! The soup is very mild. You can put seasoning yourself. Soup is good but side dishes seem not very fresh though. Overall a good option for casual lunch. But it's very busy and line could be pretty long. read more

A great addition to the North suburbs Korean Grocery stores! It's a little smaller than the other two big chains in Niles, so fewer options prices seem on par maybe a little higher. The food court here is excellent, located on the second floor it has its own entrance separate from the grocery atore. They have a Dumpling area that also sells drinks and some desserts and a Food area that has a menu on par with a sit down Korean restaurant. Food is ready pretty quickly, and they serve it on metal trays with panchan (fish cake, kimchi, radish kimchi, cucumber kimchi - not sure what they're called in Korean). They also have a water station where you can get your own water. Food is delicious I highly recommend. The sundubu comes out piping hot! Be sure to let it cool down and don't burn your throat like I did... And remember to return your tray to the return window in the corner at the end of your meal! It got pretty busy around lunch time on Sunday, but other times aren't so bad. The dumpling window line was much shorter than the food line and the dumplings were really good! I had never had Wang Mandoo before and was pleasantly surprised, they're more like a bao than a dumpling and very tasty and filling. They definitely try to pack as much as they can in the space they have at the grocery store, there's a selection of produce, meats, seafood, sauces, alcohol, and kitchenware. It's not my go to spot for Korean grocery shopping but is probably very convenient for those in the area. So many newer storefronts in this area, the parking gets pretty packed. There's some extra parking along the Milwaukee side of the plaza but it also fills pretty quickly on the weekends. read more
It is my 2nd time shopping here since it's closer to WI. I enjoyed the food in the 2nd floor food court. Quite authentic and you see a lot of Koreans dining there (always a good sign). I have also visited Seoul in S. Korea and some of these dishes reminded of my time overseas. Spacious food court, reasonable prices and good portion. I want to say the grocery prices are better than H Mart and they also have a loyalty program. Lots of goodies from produces, meat, seafood and noodles! read more
I forgot to take pictures of kimchi dumplings! They were good. So were the big and round dumplings. Korean traditional sun dae was okay. Different vendor had many items on menu- I tried Eel bento and spicy pork soup(gam ja tang) they were just .. bad. I would not go back. read more
Whenever we used to visit family in Chicago growing up, we always made a stop by Joong Boo on the way home to grab some groceries and food for the road so I was stoked when they opened one up in Glenview a couple years ago. We made it a point to check out the new one and loved how much more space there was and how they still had a dedicated food area serving all sorts of Korean goodies. There's always plenty of soups to choose from when you're looking for some authentic Korean food at a great price. If you're a fan of dumplings, I recommend grabbing some wang mandoos to go because they reheat great and are perfect for a mid day snack! read more
This is for the food court - Five Stars* How much do I love thee? 3 vegan side dishes for every meal, self serve water, fair prices, portions are large ,even the rice is extra special - it's like sushi rice. The soy miso seafood soup literally came in boiling for 5 minutes in a hot cast iron. The base is a complex flavored soup without killing the seafood taste. It has shrimp, oysters,mussels,squid etc. The vegan side dish cleanses your palate when all this becomes too much. The Bulgogi isn't the best kind of meat, but is marinated just fine and there's lots of it. Why the five star *asterisks? Well, during the lunch rush the line can be very long, especially with just one cashier. Otherwise no complaints. read more

It wasn't a few weeks ago when I was there but it might be now since the restrictions were reduced

They should have most of these items. Or try the baby H-Mart 2 miles north on Milwaukee Ave.
Do they have the $25 sashimi platter deal on Wednesdays like the Chicago location?
