Don't come here when you're hungry. Seriously, I walked in and the first thing I saw was candy, then coffee, then I stalked around the deli counter looking at all the tempting things I couldn't have, shouldn't have. I walked by the bakery, went up close to look at the cakes, walked down the cookie aisle, the wine section. I resisted temptation. This is a smaller store, manageable size, with so many tempting foodstuffs. So many delicious things. read more

Don't trust what they say. Only buy if you are cooking the same day. Ask to touch steaks. If they are sticky, don't buy. We bought ribeye, went to make it next night, sticky. Look it up! Butcher says good for 2 days in fridge. Had to return 2 steaks on 2nd day due to slime. Return policy is good, but hastle when you are getting ready to grill. Just my opinion.. read more

They still offer a decent selection of meats, cheeses, candies, jellies, dry goods, a wine collection, bulk bins, etc., as well as a hot bar, a seafood bar, a coffee bean bar, and samples of local vendors and such. I used to love the chicken salad, croissant deal. Lately the chicken salad has changed. More celery ( I don't like celery) but worse, lots of hard grizzle pieces. Nearly every bite has inedible hard pieces. I hance to keep spitting them out. Some are very large. Ugh. read more

After Yelping and emailing corporate, they were quick to respond, talk to the employee about the incident and then the employee lying about it. They kept us informed, met with us in person and reassured us that the terrible behavior will not be tolerated. We appreciate their responsiveness and made us aware that the majority of staff is made up of employees of color. Thanks for caring and being so responsive. Terrible experience today with the female employee in the meat/seafood section. My wife, who is black was waiting in line and when it was her turn to order, the employee walked away never to return to the counter. She reported this situation to the manager Carlos, but this never should've happened. So disappointing and unacceptable behavior for a employee whose job is to provide customer service....customer.....not just white customers. Please train your employees and if they are untrainable, get rid of them so you won't lose any more customers. We will not be returning to your store. read more

I went inside and I don't think that the chicken salad is fresh. The guy who gave me my groceries almost gave them to this guy. This guy almost grabbed my groceries and he said it out loud like he was laughing. I stared at him and was like are you kidding me? Don't steal my groceries that I paid for that's illegal. I was going to call the manager to tell him that because that's not right at all. I want to go back here again but I don't want that to ever happen to me. I hate giving a place a bad review. DOUBLE THE PRICE FOR SAME PRODUCTS ELSEWHERE . Came here for flaxseed meal. It's $7 a bag! Same exact bag is $1.59 less at jewel and another brand same size is only $4. I find this place consistently $50-60% more expensive than every other market. But I guess it's because it's so small and niche it's like a glorified convenient store. I would only use in emergencies, NOT for weekly shopping unless you want to pay considerably more. Other than that people are friendly and place is clean but deli food is mediocre, not bad not great. It's like a cute little grocery store you might find in a kitschy part of Manhattan. Maybe? You know.. I wondered about their prices. It's Wilmette, I'm expecting the absolute worst, but, there were quite a number of items I picked up for less than what I could expect to spend at a Dominick's in Chicago. I price watch to the point where I keep a list on my smart phone of my top needs and prices, then compare when I'm out and about. (I have photos also so I remember quantity and where to get it) A little crazy, maybe. Well, with that in mind I got a number of top brand juices, power smoothies, bakery bread and other products for a lot less then at typical grocery chains. The produce on the other hand was way up there at prices I don't think even Whole Foods might charge. Although it all looked perfect, as if their produce guys hand picked every vegetable and fruit and made sure it was clear of imperfections. Very nice beer and liquor section. Fresh baked goods are moderately priced and they offer a wide selection of loaves, breads, mini french bread loaves for sandwiches, etc. A little surprised at how good some of their cakes and cupcakes look and they aren't charging more or double. Since it is a Wilmette grocery and they are competing with Whole Foods, there are a number of organic items, unique snack options, Gluten free goods and more. Cute store with cute signs, a decorator must come through here and space and decorate weekly. I have a few friends that love grocery shopping which I've brought here and they too usually have rave reviews to share with their friends about it. Kind of a weird thing right? Loving to grocery shop, strange but real. One wild detail about the end when you leave to pay, your cart is taken by the counter associate and that person will remove the groceries, scan and then bag. The whole process is on the employee. After a tepid experience getting a fresh turkey at Mariano's for Thanksgiving (and learning that they "don't do" fresh turkeys for Christmas), we turned to The Fresh Market. And I'm glad we did. A staff member in the meat department cheerfully took the order and provided clear pick-up instructions. The process for pick-up was super efficient -- I was in and out in five minutes on Dec. 23. Most important, the turkey was once of the best we've enjoyed. All of my other interactions at this location have been top-notch. We'll continue to shop at The Fresh Market and appreciate the good service, quality, and convenience. read more

Fresh Market is a great place. I had most of my food delivered from there during the first year of covid, before i was vaccinated. The food is fresh and delicious. There is a good selection and they have a great selection of ready to cook or eat foods. Their premade meals are fresher than the ones I had previously ordered online and they are also quicker to prepare. (e.g. the mashed potatoes only need heating....not cooking and mashing.). And their mashed potatoes taste real...like the ones I make....no artificial flavorings. They have the best croissants in the area, and their crab cakes and crab macaroni and cheese are delicious. I come here occasionally to buy my chocolate -Chuoa Rocky Road and my Teapigs camomile flowers tea. This is the only place where they sell Chuoa chocolate bars (made in San Diego) and its pricey but on sale it's $4.99. Worth a try. The produce is something a hit or a miss so I tend to go to Whole Foods to buy my fruits and veggies. I've bought items here where the fruits were moldy! I wasn't too fond of their fried chicken, but their handmade sandwiches are decent. read more

Smaller than the one in Highland Park and the woman checking me out gave me stink eye for asking for a paper bag for my purchases but the food is good. Went with some baked breads to bring to the office- banana chocolate chip, blueberry, and orange cranberry-walnut. Each loaf was heavy, laden with taste, and a steal at $3.99 per loaf. Also picked up the best CRISPY chocolate cookie! I personally love them crispy- almost burnt. These were so tasty! read more

It's a small little market but it had a bunch of variety, which I like. Some workers were nice to help but others seem very rude and stuffy. It was very empty, so I wonder why. The cashier guy was super rude and had an attitude, went straight to his phone after my transaction; terrible customer service. Whoa, somehow I never noticed the bulk Jelly Bellys here! They don't have the branded vertical dispensers like most candy stores; rather, the JBs are in the glass canisters the same as most of their other bulk candy. But still, the bright Jelly Bellys themselves should catch your eye. Interesting selection: Superfruit mix, Sours mix, Tropical mix, Fruit Bowl mix, Ice Cream Parlor mix, Cocktail Classics mix, Pomegranate, Lemon, Lemon-Lime, Licorice, Sizzling Cinnamon, Very Cherry, Tangerine and Juicy Pear. And all only $8.49 per pound, which is less than the Jelly Belly store itself in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. Glory be. It's dangerous to have canisters of Sizzling Cinnamon so close to my daily commute route. read more

I was excited to try this place since they claim to be like a "European market," but honestly, it's just a standard small grocery store. I will say that some of the organic produce was worthwhile but beyond that, totally unimpressed with the bakery (ingredients and quality were not there) and what is with the hot bar closing at 5pm ???? Who eats dinner before then? Makes no sense. Other aisles had just regular brands you could find anywhere and a lot of the ingredients were not very healthful. The wine selection also was greatly lacking. Overall, this grocery is nothing special at all. I keep looking for viable alternatives to Whole Foods but I guess I need to keep looking. read more

When I moved to Skokie/Wilmette area I decided that I was going to find a new "supermarket" and tried The Fresh Market. I was instantly impressed. Their selections are tight and well chosen. I found their meat dept excellent. The choices are fresh and excellent. I go there especially for their meats. In general, they hv their own selections in brands and many are not well known but quality must b the buzz word because everything I hv chosen has been outstanding. I bought a pasta sauce they packaged with meat and it tasted homemade. Their $5 chicken on Thursday is small but very flavorful. The bakery goods are wonderful, especially croissants. There is a reason it is called Fresh Market. read more

This store makes me feel poor when I come here. The food is overpriced, and the deli has a similar quality to what you find at Mariano's. They can have good sales on meat if you watch. Service is truly hit or miss. I've encountered some awesome friendly employees and some that seem to hate life. The clerk at the deli was the latter the other day. The Fresh Market is a Whole Foods meets Fox and Obel meets Treasure Island. While I don't frequent The Fresh Market too often as it's off the beaten path for me, I'm always pleased when I shop here. Most typically, my purchases here are for meat, as they have a wide variety of cuts that I am not always available to find elsewhere. Since Paulina Meat Market isn't open on Sundays, I opted to go here as I was doing some shopping at nearby Old Orchard mall. This trip I was on the hunt for sirloin tips which I use in my chili, and as luck would have it, The Fresh Market not only had them, but they were also on sale. Double score. I requested a pound of them and the man helping me grabbed them and placed them on the scale. It was exactly a pound and he nailed it on the first try. While this may seem minor, more often than not I am subjected to buying more than I order, as I'm told "it's a little over" by the counter guy and I don't want to be nitpicky and ask them to take off the surplus. The Fresh Market also has a wonderful selection of prepared foods as well as a fantastic bakery. I purchased some delicious cornbread to go with my chili and a crusty rosemary/sea salt boule that was heavenly. Their produce looks fresh and well-chosen and the store is very clean. Prices are on par with Dominick's and Jewel; some things seem to be priced higher, some lower, and some were the same. While I won't make The Fresh Market a truly frequent stop, I do plan on stopping here for specialty items or to augment my regular grocery items. read more

Stumbled across this store by accident, and went in mistaking it for an ethnic grocery chain I like (Garden Fresh Market). I knew the moment I set foot in it that it wasn't the store I was thinking of. The expensive overhead track lighting gave it away (not like the harsh fluorescent lighting in the cheaper, ethnic grocery). As Alan R. said, it's Whole Foods meets local gourmet food shop. Their sections include produce, a butcher, a deli, bakery, prepared foods, liquor, bulk foods and the usual comestible goodies. I like it for the fact that there are items here you can't find just anywhere. (i.e. Cafe du Monde Beignet mix, Talk O' Texas Hot Crisp Okra Pickles, Peruvian pink artisan salt). I also like that they have bulk coffee beans available in barrels on the floor - the better to smell them. The prices are about what you'd pay at Whole Foods. I paid $3.98 for a small container of organic strawberries. But at the moment, I had to have them. And this store is a lot like that; you don't really need a lot of these items, but they're a nice indulgence. read more

Holy EXPENSIVE Batman!!! I would love to marry this store, except for the fact that I'm broke each and every time I walk out of there. I'm not one of those people (like my mom) who knows what's the cheapest at each store, and makes the crazy rounds of 5 stores to shop. Produce is cheap "here", drive to next store... milk is cheap "there".... drive to another store... frozen-ables are cheap "over yonder".... drive to the next place. Nope, just not that person (plus, as I've told mom for years, how much are you spending on gas doing that!?). But I digress.... So, I'm a one stop shop kind of gal. And when I shop here, my bank account goes down, yet my stomach gets bigger. Don't get me wrong, they have the most wonderful things. Fresh produce with the best fuji apples I've ever had, anywhere. Kickin flowers, with types I've only previously seen at specialty stores online. The candy/nut/granola bulk food section that I could gain 10 pounds in 10 minutes flat! Also, most anything in their bakery section and frozen food section I want to take home with me. And that's the rub. If you try to do a weeks worth of shopping here, count on a minimum of $200. Yep, that's TWO HUNDO my friends. Alas, I need to stay the hell out of here. Every so often, when the husband knows I'm running to Old Orchard, he'll ask for some Fuji's. And then I come home with 2 bags of crap that cost me $200, which cuts into my wine budget and makes me grumpy. Good luck, and stick to those lists people! (Yeah, I never do either...) read more

I have asked for her assistance many times...I want to thank a third party woman today named LUCINDA whom works for a cart company and they pick out and deliver our groceries... We ordered groceries online for the very first time and she picked out everything with good expiration dates on packages which is important and she also delivered the groceries to us ON time, was very pleasant and kind. I was going to lament that I wish I were a North Shore gal because it was almost love at first site when I walked in to the Fresh Market. We need one of these in the Western Burbs! and thank goodness some friends schooled me that we do have a location in Geneva and another one opening in Wheaton. Those will be worth a trip if it's anything like the location in Wilmette. I love the setting of this place. It's not super bright or glaring and there's soft classical music piping overhead. It's soft, it's muted, it just makes for a peaceful shopping experience. It was a weekend when I visited and the place was busy, but it wasn't mad-cap-weekend frenzy. So happy for that. And again, even though they were busy, all staff that I encountered were genuinely friendly and helpful. The products they offer is a great mix between gourmet (think Ina Garten, think specialty items) and Whole Foods and your favorite neighborhood butcher. Sure, some of the prices can cause a double-take, but if you're a serious cook or want to elevate some of your home cooking or baking, this place has you covered.The wine/beer area carried a great selection along a nice price spectrum. The prepared foods section and baked good section was also worth some browsing time. I love that they sell mini cupcakes in different flavors because some places just have vanilla or chocolate ready to be sold. The day I visited, one was able to purchase lemon minis or salted caramel minis. I did bring home some goodies--key lime tart, mini cheesecake and slice of white cake with raspberries. All so well made and enjoyed by everyone at home. I'd make a return visit if I was in the area for sure. And I'm hoping it's sister locations in the Western Burbs will do it justice. read more

Prices are horribly high. Many items I can find cheaper elsewhere, like Pacific chicken broth(Costco). I did buy heath bar and macadamia white chocolate cookies, which were very tasty. Also got some mixed baby greens, not too bad since I didn't buy that much. Also got some dried lemon peel, orange peel and lavender buds, for what, I don't know, but it was relatively cheap. Produce is very fresh but expensive, except for some specials. They had honeybell tangelos for $1.48-great price, really. The employees are very helpful and polite. The woman in produce cut up one of the tangelos and gave me a huge chunk, then gave me a papertowel to dry my hands. Fish didn't look great, rather dry which I think means it's not real fresh. You'd be better off going up to Burhop's or even Sunset Foods. As I watched a woman buy coconut chicken breasts I couldn't help think that I could make them for far less...these were just boneless skinless breasts breaded in coconut and panko bread crumbs! There's convenience and then there's just laziness. Lots of strange items, like sage honey, four kinds of lemon curd, White Lily flour (if you have a hankerin' for some biscuits!) just to name a few. If I need something odd, it's a good place but not worth going out of my way for. As the other reviewer said, it's not a place to get all your groceries.
