It's been almost a decade since I've stopped at this ALDI location and I can say for certain that things have improved for the better! Yet still the overall visit I'd say was average or okay. That's why I give it a three rating. All three of the specialty items that I went in the store for I was able to purchase. I spoke with another customer who complained that everything had been moved around. Essentially, all of the shelves were stocked differently than before all of her previous shops. Since she creates her list by aisle, she mentioned the change being a bit discouraging. Most of the aisles were decently stocked. However, there's lots of congestion in the aisles, be it machines that were holding boxes or random stacks of things that could benefit from having more organization. There were two checkout lines open and both of them moved quickly and the cashier was friendly. I'd shop here again if I'm in the area but I wouldn't make a special trip out. I'm more local to the Hoover ALDI location and that has been a 5 out of five visit for me every time. read more

Overall, this is a good Aldi. I just stopped in here to grab some water since I am traveling and needed some for my hotel room, but the service was friendly. The store was bright and had an overall pleasant ambiance, though since it was about ten minutes before closing, there were boxes on the floor as I guess they were restocking for the next day. Aldi has quite a few things that are always good deals. I like their cheese, potato chips and bread. Their eggs are also usually well priced. I would definitely recommend here. read more

Shopped here for years and there's outstanding staff. Management are complete idiots though. They had a single line across over 60% of the store & that was the final straw for me. There's Continually not enough people at the register, but the ones there are truly incredible. They're so nice & insanely fast. There was a line, a long one. Aldi has become one of my go to stores just within the last 2 years. I specifically love the Aldi find items because they are unique. The energy at this one is like Black Friday all the time. Not a fan. Huge lines and people act a fool here. Also, the employees here need customer service training. I don't know if it is their fault or if they're being asked to do things that are not fair from the business itself. I will give them the benefit of doubt. But no other ALDIs in town has such disgruntled employees. I no longer go to this location even though it is technically closest to me. I came to the check out aisle with white curtains. I didn't put them on the belt because it was wet and dirty and like I said the curtains were white. I was told to put my products on the conveyor belt. I ignored her and she then yelled at me and said why are you not doing as I told you!? I told her the belt is dirty and she grabbed them from my hands and said no it isn't. She then put them on the belt anyways. Another time another employee opened up my shoe box at the register and said just making sure you're not walking away with a different pair. I used to be the manger at Nine West Shoes right out college. The correct way to check is to tell the customer I am checking to make sure the size matches the box and that you get both of your shoes. First of all maam this is an Aldi not Saks. Not sure who is trying to walk away with Aldi shoes but... I'll help pay the $9 for them to not be treated like this in your stores. Thank you. read more

This Aldi is very similar to the others in the area. It's a smaller store, probably closer in size to the one in Alabaster, so it can sometimes feel a little cramped, but they utilize the space well. It's gone through at least one renovation since opening, and Aldi continually tries to update the flow and space use. I will often go to this location if I am passing through the area and none of my closer locations have a particular Aldi Find I want to find. Same good Aldi selection, and the employees have always been efficient and polite. read more

This Aldi is probably my go to grocery store. They usually have the lowest prices on just about everything and really give Walmart and other grocery stores stiff competition. I buy pretty much all of my fruits and veggies from here as their weekly specials are pretty unbeatable for what's currently in season. As for their packaged goods, you will see a lot of their own brands and very rarely any name brand items, but I haven't had too many problems. You need a quarter to get a shopping cart, and you have to pay for any bags you want. A little inconvenient, but it's what keeps their prices so low. read more

I loved this place when it first opened. It was great. Now you have to wait forever to get checked out. The last few times I've been there has been only one cashier and with Covid- it's hard for 10 people to wait in line 6 ft apart without clogging up the aisles. I went to pick tomatoes and my fingers went through them!! Every pack that was there was old!!! They didn't have celery. They were out of most of the things I went for. It's so hard getting into this place - especially with the college crowd that live near by shopping there too. You know Tuscaloosa- the location of this store causes it to be extremely busy. I like to get good deals, but I'd rather go to Marketplace to get my groceries, to avoid the crowds and yes, even faster checkout. read more

Aldi is a grocery store very unique to anything I've ever been to. This style of grocery store is apparently much more popular in Europe. The whole idea is for the store to save on overhead so that they can pass the savings on to you. I think it's great! You need to bring a quarter and bring your own grocery bags. The quarter you use to get your shopping cart. When you return the cart, you get your quarter back and Aldi doesn't have to pay for someone to gather carts from the parking lot. The food inside is so cheap! You are not going to see many of the name brands that you know and love, but I have found there isn't a huge difference. Off brand Frosted Flakes will run you $1.59 and regular bran flakes will go for $1.09. At Publix or any other store, Kellog's brand cereal goes for $4 or $5! Canned foods are so cheap. .49 for stewed tomatoes, cream of mushroom and canned corn.. $0.95 for a 1lb bag of frozen corn. Pork tenderloin $3.99/lb You aren't going to find everything you need here, but you will be amazed at how quickly you fill up your cart and how little you pay at the register. I highly recommend that everyone go here at least once to experience it. If you get what you can at Aldi and then go across the street to Publix for the few things you can't do without, you will be amazed at the savings. You will need to bring your own grocery bags (recycled plastic bags, tote bags, whatever) or you have the option of purchasing paper sacks for .05 a piece. read more

I love Aldi and this location is one of the best in Birmingham. Aldi is a one stop shop for all your grocery needs. Fresh produce? Check. Reasonably priced organic options? You got it. Trying the Whole 30 diet fad? Aldi can help you with that! Every time I shop at Aldi, I leave feeling like I spent what should actually be spent on a load of groceries and that's even without everything I purchased being on special and their specials are great. This Aldi location is always busy but always so well stocked. I can quickly pop in, get what I need and move through checkout quickly. The employees are always super nice and are more than willing to check in the back to see if they have what you need. The cashiers are a pleasure as well! read more

Lets begin by saying, every Aldi is different. This Aldi is located on Greenspring right in front of a massive Publix (big competition right?). Well, the people who run this store must have known what they were doing, BECAUSE, this store is always full! When looking at the prices of goods, I have to admit, they are very reasonable however I'm not familiar with any of the brand. Is that a bad thing? I think not! The food tastes the same right? For anyone who has read any previous reviews of Aldi by me (I think that means just the one other), you know that I like Aldi for what it is, but not as my regular grocery store. They manage to have incredible prices on a wide variety of items... but can't check off an entire grocery list for me. But if you have specific things you know they will have, you can get some pretty good stuff at a really good price. For us, those items usually include things like goat cheese and scallops. Random... but those are the things we have found we like the most. After describing my general thoughts about Aldi, I don't know if they will ever be a five star since it is a grocery store... but a grocery store that requires another grocery store trip. Love the prices... but sometimes two grocery store trips aren't always worth it. In the grand scheme of Aldi's I have been to however, this one is the bees knees. This used to be our nearby Aldi until we moved 4 years ago. But with renovations going on at our Aldi, our normal scallops weren't available. And at only $9.99 per package, these are definitely worth the drive if you are craving them. So a drive to our old Aldi, showed just how new it is. The renovations they did make the store look 100x better, brighter, and all around nicer. I was blown away. The one person I came in contact with was extremely friendly and I left with a good feeling and a couple of packages of scallops. I hope the renovations at our store give us these kinds of results. read more

We were standing in line behind 8 other patrons with orders of varying sizes. Only one lane was open. An Aldi employee in uniform walked to the front line asking if they could break because they only had two item. The clerk allowed them to jump despite the fact that we and several other customers had one or two items. We dropped our items and went across the street to Publix. Stopped by here since I needed to stop by mine in Alabaster and since we took a different route I decided to go ahead and stop by this location. The veggies were quite scarce. I know the holiday was last week but geesh. It was bare. The store was quite a mess and that's just not something I'm use to in any Aldi. Got what I needed and three lanes were opened and lines were down the aisles. By the time I made it to the belt customers further back got into a disagreement and I almost left my items. Scared me right quick. I paid and walked quickly to my car to leave to avoid whatever could possibly happen as a result of that argument. You know a lot of folks sell this place down the river but I don't feel that way. This store offers products (most of the time I think it is the same stuff just packaged differently) at affordable prices. Personally, I think toilet paper is toilet paper. Why pay twice as much in a store that has to market more to get your hard earned dollars. Now if you want decor - DON"T GO THERE!! It's a building that is selling products as cost effective as it can. Moving on... carry a quarter on you at all times. I made the mistake of not knowing they have the grocery carts hijacked and you have to pay 25 cents to get it out of buggy jail. Also, carry bags with you because the way you pick it up in the store is the way you are going to put it in your car. They do not supply plastic, paper, recycled bags for free. Think of this as a way to help curb your spending if you don't want to carry more than an armful when you leave. Here's the deal... I've been going here for about a month and I'm sold! Aldi has very fresh produce that almost rivals Publix. I haven't tried any of the raw meats but there's a pretty big selection. All the cookies/ crackers/ snacks are Aldi's brand and pretty good, I'd say the equivalent to Wal- Marts brand of items. You can find very healthy items if you look hard enough ,like quinoa and rice blends, colliflowers rice in the frozen section. No big-box grocery store can compete with Aldi in my mind. I've been known to have choice-induced meltdowns in Walmart... seriously, must I read the label of EVERY item on aisle5 to find a canned tomato without MSG?! Not so at ALDI. The choice is BLISSFULLY limited and the offerings are generally high-quality, low-preservative and MSG-free (disclaimer: still read the labels... my shopping list may differ from yours). They have great options for the health conscious: new organic items are appearing all the time, they have almond/soy milk for a steal and the fresh section is well-stocked. I love their goat cheese, fancy lettuce heads, and nut selection. Other highlights include the vacuum packed guacamole, frozen cornish hens, and fresh berries (seasonal, of course). Pro tip: If you want the best selection and limited lines go first thing in the morning midweek... if you really want the absolute best selection, kindly ask one of the lovely (truly) employees when their next truck delivery is. I love Aldi, and am glad that this is not the location that I have to frequent. We needed to pick up a couple of bottles of wine and some snacks to take over to a nearby friend's house, and I remembered that this Aldi was nearby. I know this was the first location to be built, and the age definitely shows. This is the least clean store that I have ever set foot in. Seemed to also be darker lit and rather cluttered as well. The lines up front were pretty difficult to get through as well, which can happen from time to time, but this was the worst that I had ever experienced. The only reason for three stars is that the wine selection was good, which is what we were there for anyways. I am just thankful this is not my regular store! read more

Great prices. The veggies and fruits are generally pretty fresh, and I noticed that they are starting to have organic spinach and salad greens, yess. Cheese, flatbread, and hummus are also good and well priced. The Beaumont brand of coffee sold here is surprisingly good and super cheap. read more

How am I just now hearing about Aldi's? I went there for the first time last week and walked out of there with a cart FULL of groceries for just over $100. I love to cook and am a produce snob and I was thrilled to discover their produce was fresh and at a great price! Their canned goods (taco soup, please) are half the price of other stores. Fantastic grocery store! I love Aldi. They have a wide variety of generic products as well as some exotic foreign grocery. Recently they have started carrying organic and natural lines as well. I have rarely bought something from Aldi that I have not been pleased with. I am always impressed with quality of their packaged products. I have noticed that a lot of the fruits and veggies come with fruit flies (I just wash my them with vinegar water after I buy them). I have made a calendar of seasonal items that I love and make sure to catch them when they come around next year. I particularly love the emmentaler cheese bites, focaccia bread mix, tahini lemon goddess dressing, and jalapeño jack cheese. I also really enjoy the chocolates and wines :) One thing I will never understand about this place is why when I place my canvas bag in the cart the cashiers always insist on throwing my groceries everywhere but the open canvas bag in the cart. It's highly annoying and wastes time when at the end I'm trying to fill my bags before I pay. read more

I hate ALDI in Homewood. The ALDI rarely has all the products that are advertised in the advertisement. The product that is there is not fresh, and is not good. While it is cheap, the saying "you get what you paid for" is true. You pay less, but get less product in quality. I hate ALDI in general, and would recommend spending more at Publix, but have a good shopping experience, convenience, and quality. It's pretty much amazing. It's a small place, and not really a visual wonder. It's tightly packed with tons of food, and the prices are astonishingly low. A stalk of celery is $.69 for example, compared to $2+ dollars at other grocery stores. The food is all quality. If you typically cook your meals, I can assure you Aldi will soon become your favorite grocery store. If you're more into eating ready made stuff, I could understand shopping somewhere else since some of their ready to eat stuff can be a little off sometimes. It doesn't affect me, since the only ready to eat stuff I get is chips, and their store brand kettle cooked chips are STELLAR. I would highly recommend grabbing a bag if you go, the sea salt and cracked pepper flavor specifically. It's ridiculously good. Their pudding is also excellent. read more

This store is just great! I recommend most of their in-house products, many of which are made by the same companies that make the big name brands. You can't beat their prices on staples like bread, cheese, milk, PRODUCE, and lots of their frozen fish is outstanding. I don't recommend their giant tub of icecream. At first it tasted horrible, but then got better, so I figured it was freezer burn. Pizza is good, but no better prices than Costco or publix. The employees are so nice; I love the idea of no waste in terms of overhead, or paying people to be out in the parking lot corraling carts. Their cart policy is GENIUS, and it's one that I'm surprised other stores don't adopt. It is just common sense. you pay a quarter for a cart, and you get your quarter back when you return the cart. The cash-only policy is annoying, but again, it's how they keep their costs so low-- no credit card fees, no bounced checks, and really, you'll be surprised how you will still have cash left at the end. I visited the ALDI grand opening in Cullman, Alabama last Thursday (5/9/2013) and was pleasantly surprised. I went with the intent to "check it out" and then go to Wal-Mart, my usual stop. I ended up buying over $30 worth and was able to use the $5.00 coupon I received in the mail. I then went to Wal-Mart to pick up the items that ALDI did not have as well as to compare what I purchased at ALDI to WM'. Everyone knows WM beats all prices anywhere. My first word was, "WOW." The pure maple syrup my husband loves was bought at ALDI for $3.99. WM's Great Value brand, same size, was $5.98. I bought canned green beans for .19 cents less than WM. Sweet & Salty bkf. bars for $1.89 vs. WM's $2.98. Blueberry pancake mix for $1.49 vs. WM's $1.68. My husband are excited that ALDI has come to Cullman. Though we live in Warrior, it makes this store closer to us and we will be shopping at ALDI before we go anywhere else. I think even COSTCO is going to miss us. :) P. Works read more

My boyfriend and I went to the Aldi in Homewood, and we loved the idea and cashiers. The food though....We bought some pork chops and pork ribs that looked good on top (compared to the others that had brown spots all over), but, when we got home and opened the chops, they were also covered in dark brown spots on the bottom. :( Not small spots either. Everything I'm reading is saying that's a sign of them beginning to spoil. That or freezer burn, but are we supposed to eat them to find out whether they are spoiled or not? I wouldn't have cared about paying a little more for good pork chops. This is ridiculous. It's definitely better for other things like cereal or juice. The fruit was also iffy. Some rotting, some good. All in all, we didn't actually save that much compared to Wal-Mart, and we got bad meat, so I don't think it's that great.
