They expect you to get your full loaf of bread, cut it in their bread machine, and put it in the bag. No, thank you. People are using their bare hands to take out the loaf, and it's not hygienic. When I ask the person behind the counter to select and cut it for me (since they wear gloves and are selecting the bread from the clean side), they are more or less helpful. Some seem annoyed to be asked. I'm sorry, but if I'm paying $5.50+ a loaf, you should be able to cut it up for me. I don't want bread people have touched or to use a machine people have their bare hands all over. Their half loaves of bread are a scam. They do not equal a full loaf but two cost more than a full loaf. WHAT? I guess I feel the same way re pastries and cookies. People put their bare hands into the glass shelves, or maybe, use a sheet of the thin paper, if it's available (sometimes, it's not). That's just gross, and they've doubled the price of these things. I'll just buy prepackaged pastries, thank you. Now, on to grapes. Do not just buy the grapes in the bag. Here, they act like they're being hygienic by pre-packing all the grapes, but all they're doing is hiding the older grapes that are detached with the newer grapes. Yes they're savages, but even they don't usually go that far. They have great selections of cheeses and ethnic spices that are hard to find in an actual supermarket so it's nice not to have to go to 20 different places. I love to cook, which means sometimes I need small amounts of spices if I'm trying something new so it's nice to be able to get most of them there. I think they originated in Ohio, so it's nice to see some of the Kroger offering since I lived there as a kid so it's nostalgic. The neighbor people that hanging out with the bar freaked me out a little bit not gonna lie. I don't get it. I can get behind one and have a drink as you walk through a grocery shopping but to go hang out at the grocery store for no reason, but to sit there and drink as people try to navigate their carts around you... yeah.... Weird. Sorry. Now here's what I definitely don't understand. Their cakes are so underrated unless I've just been walking through life with sunglasses in the AirPods. I have never heard anyone talk about how good their bakery is. They have a huge selection of premade stuff that isn't really their brand but the cupcakes that are made in the store and the cakes they make are incredible. The frosting for their buttercream, you can tell has actual butter in it most grocery stores around here for buttercream seem like they use shortening. I think Mariano's is fantastic and will definitely consider them when I need to order cakes in the future. The people there are also really helpful. My favorite is the woman that supervises the self checkout. She's incredibly friendly and helpful. She doesn't always come across that way initially because she doesn't seem outgoing but she really is great. I definitely say just throw this on your list of regular spots to shop.

But when you see 10 items on the shelf above the $9.99 sign, you would automatically think okay, it's $9.99, but at the register it's $12.99. I snapped a picture to prove that there were more than one box above the price. (I could have clapped back and said then your workers should read and be able to put things on the right shelf). Produce that's rotten is sold so make sure you are opening up boxes and packages. Wish I took pictures of the rotting produce. At least I didn't buy those. Saw my receipt that they charged $1.29/lb for my Korean radish which should have been 79 cents. UGH! Guys, pay attention to how they are ringing you up. Two transactions in a row with multiple mistakes. I asked to talk with the manager. The female worker said she is not here and will come at 12noon. Then said actually will come tomorrow. Went to the Customer Service desk and the guy there said the manager is in the bathroom. Both workers started to talk to each other in Spanish. The female worker telling him, tell her the manager is not coming back until tomorrow. I told them I can speak Spanish and I understood everything they said. They got quiet very quickly. They have local produce year-round, even in winter, and some of the specials are really good. I'm really happy to have bulk spices available, and they have things here it's hard to find elsewhere (more kinds of organic cheese than Whole Foods, and they regularly carry organic parsnips and affordable organic citrus, for example). They had some local plums that were SO DELICIOUS that I've never seen anywhere and will definitely be looking for again. I also really like that you don't have to buy produce wrapped in plastic (cucumbers; bell peppers). The grab and go pizza is really tasty, and I'm a big fan of Bakehouse, who does their bread. They have cronuts every Friday. They even sell alcohol (which I don't really buy but maybe you do). They have a bunch of prepared foods and coffee, and they host regular events like a bring-your-own craft night, or a presentation on Mexican cuisine. Very cool. Service is friendly and the store is well-lit, with lots of parking and a small dedicated parking section right by the doors. Checkout is at these weird desks that don't really work (I guess there wasn't room for a real counter or a conveyor?) Overall, prices are somewhat high, and the canned good selection and frozen produce selection is fairly small. But if you like organic produce, bulk spices and high-quality baked goods and you're willing to pick and choose, shopping the specials, you should add it to your rounds.
