Aldi is my go to grocery store in the neighborhood. Now they started to carry baby items. I'm super excited. Good place to grab anything quick if you run out of it. The Gerber rice cereal and baby food are cheaper than most places. 98cents for two container of baby puree. Compared to most supermarket/drug store price at $1.40. I'm not a fan of the baby wipes; however, they tend to rip easily. Their frozen vegetables are a staple in my house. They have nice varieties, so you will never be bored of it. The desserts here are also my favorite. They aren't too sweet and price is very reasonable. Once a while they carry unique speciality items. This week they have jars of curries. Never seen them before. Every so often when they have a sale it's pretty dirt cheap in price. Especially the seasonal items. They don't carry too much name brands most of their items are made by them. Every few items you will notice a brand name. But I don't see what the big deal is. Their brand is just as good. Pros: They have push carts AND handheld baskets. The Gateway Center location does not have handheld baskets and it annoys me every time. The cashiers are friendly and efficient. The security guard at the door I encountered yesterday morning (Sunday) was bit grouchy but I'm chalking that up to it being the beginning of his early shift. It seems slightly larger than the Gateway Center location but they carry all of the same products. I was even able to snag up their diapers this time as they seem to sometimes be out of the size I need. Side note: The store diapers are really good and in my opinion better than Pampers. I've been buying Aldi's diapers exclusively since last year and almost rarely ever by "name brand" diapers now. The produce and meat are standard fare. I did notice that they were offering fresh sealed salmon fillets that have never been frozen according to the label. I never see that in Brooklyn and so next time I'm here, if it's around, I'm going to pick some up. The Aldi finds aisle in my opinion is not as stocked as the BK location but they make up for that in food offerings. I like to come here when I'm also stopping at TRU to pick up a new imagination building toy for my toddler and also it's just nice to come here rather than schlep all the way to Gateway Center sometimes. Aldi overall is excellent for its efficiency when it comes replenishing their stocks and checking out . They have a cheap prices for great quality of foods and products because it's a sister company of Trader Joe's , however your favorite food might not be available again until who knows when. Aldi grocery store never disappoints. Even up to today where most of the grocery store we're charging at least $4.99 for their medium eggs , here is still $1.29. Milk is still available for a cheaper price . It's very organized. My favorite is the shopping cart rental of .25 cents . It's a great idea for customers to return their carts where they belong .Oh BTW clementine , which usually costs $4.99, today $1.99 . Awesome ! read more

I've been to this location countless times and I am consistently impressed with the quality of their produce. I have stopped buying fruits and vegetables anywhere else, and that includes big chains like Trader Joe's and Stop and Shop. Whenever I'm in other stores I always wind up seeing deflated fruits and veggies, or sales like: "Buy three packs for $5!" only to open the package and see why. Old and moldy fruit they're trying to pawn off to customers. That's just disgusting. I've gotten tons of fruit: raspberries, cherries, strawberries, kiwis, grapes, oranges, blackberries, etc. And they always look like they were picked that very day. It doesn't hurt that the prices are also amazing. Roughly three bucks and change for an entire package of grapes that any other store would charge by the pound, and $2.99 for beautiful berries. I also love their coffee pods. $4.09 for a pack of 12, can't beat that and they're delicious. The dark roast is my favorite. Milk and creamer is on point and nicely priced as well. I visit this place every week for groceries. Many local customers don't know ALDI is a chain enterprise and its headquarter is in Germany. So the ALDI stores in the US still keep their European culture. For example, to use their shopping cart, you need insert a quarter as deposit, and you will get the coin back when you return the cart. Also, they don't provide free plastic bags to customers. You should always bring your own bags otherwise you have to buy their shopping bags each time. But some of their culture is changed here. In Germany, all grocery super markets are closed on Sundays. As I know the ALDI stores in Chicago, IL were also closed on Sundays years before. But at least in NYC, they are open 7 days a week. ALDI is well known as they provide high quality products with affordable pricings. Their pricing may not be as good as Costco's, but the pack is also normal, not like Costco's wholesale size. The great thing is we have both Costco and ALDI in the same Rego Center. So I can shop with both of them to meet my needs. After about one month of renovation, this place now has a brand new look inside. I am so satisfied and will continue visiting them every week. read more

Bring your own bags. Seriously. Ok, you can buy bags, it is not a huge deal. However, you should get the whole Aldi experience. Immerse yourself. If you are one of those people who looks at the brand name product next to the store brand product on the shelf and says, "who cares, this is the same" then Aldi is your dream destination. The prices are pretty great. The food is pretty good. I once got a skirt steak there and it was fine. I recently got some great feta cheese as well as some suspiciously Triscuit looking crackers and hummus. You can find some cool stuff there! Often, this stuff is the same as private label items. Trader Joe's average Joe brother is destined to become more appealing in the years to come. read more

For those who stroll through Whole Foods frequently, this is not for you. Nor is the one who just gave the one star review without even tasting one item or reviewed. You simply failed. Let's face it. Aldi's is part of the same owner's who own Trader Joe's where exotic fare can be had. See my review on TJ's. They both offer "no name" brands yet both offer equally nutritious meals. Like TJ's, their inventory is hit and miss so, for example, you may get a boat load of navel oranges priced right; next week, nada, zip, nothing. But the great thing about Aldi's is you don't get to over spend and fall for gimmicky end-cap "specials" or frivolous purchases. They concentrate on the staples. Done and done. When I first moved to Queens, my first impression of Aldi was not a positive one due to no name brands and low cost items. Even some Yelp reviewers refer to Aldi as "the poor people's grocery store". But all the German people I know loves Aldi. I decided to venture and see what this grocery store is all about. I was reading up on Aldi and everything they sell has to be non GMO, no synthetic colors, no added MSGs, and no trans fats. In addition, they offer wide selection of organic produce. I also checked the labels on their exclusive "Specially Selected" label products, some of them are imported from European countries like Spain, Italy, Germany, France, and etc. So my German friends are right. Cheap prices! Who can beat that? ? This is new york city and most people live on a budget. If you have a tight budget, this is the best grocery store ever. If you are a college student, this is a no brainer. It offers the bare essential of what people like to eat. Carries a wide of candy (it has lessen during the years), ice cream, cheese and chips. Small selection of poultry, bread, fruits, vegetable and milk. Everything at the store stay pretty much the same through out the year unless it's seasonal or a holiday is soon. I've never been to an Aldi's so I wanted to check it out. We saw some shopping carts locked up and wasn't sure what to do but we were there mainly to browse so no big deal. I just read on the reviews that I'd have to pay a quarter to rent a stupid cart. First of all the prices are lower than supermarket brand names but not low enough that I'd want to try them. I try to buy minimally processed items so I basically passed right by all the junk food, deli, canned, frozen stuff. I did pick up some random things just to read the labels and it was highly processed. The fruits did look okay. L didn't want to go inside, he thought the whole setup was weird. The prices weren't ridiculously cheap, but similar to Trader Joe's or like buying generic items at the supermarket. Cheaper than buying at Costco's which is pretty obvious but Costco isn't necessarily budget friendly, it's just sold in bulk. Sure some items are a deal, like liquor... but if I buy something in bulk it's just goin to rot cuz there's no way 2 people can eat 2-5lbs of something. How big does your refrigerator have to be to fit bulk items? I have a French door. Bags aren't free? I'm not going to buy or bring 10-15 bags if I was going to do some serious grocery shopping. I'll stick to Trader Joe's for my budget shopping at least they give bags and they pack everything perfectly and I don't need to rent their carts. read more

I love what they did with the veggies, Most supermarkets keep their packaged veggies in "open refrigerators", i don't know what they are called but its open and its mildly cold. I didn't know the name of this store because the outside says food market or food mart I forget. But at checkout I noticed they were called Aldi. Their prices are more then reasonable and in fact so cheap it should be a crime. Some items are not brand names yes that is true but they are reasonable. I'm happy that they sell Arizona Ice Tea for $0.85 a piece. Befoer you go please know that you have to bring your own bags or else you have to pay 11 cents per bag. You bag your own items. I honestly dont see why people call this place ghetto it is like a mini Costco or BJs but way cheaper. For people who are on a tight budget I suggest this place ASAP. I want to mention Clancy's cheese puffs and corn chips are on the salty side. Eating a handful at a time would be best. But if you're like me, You eat these by the bowl-ful. The salt is overpowering. Maybe Canal Street in Germany if there was one. I've never seen so many bootlegs all in one place (see pictures). I had some good laughs out of it though. I did buy some stuff to try out. The caramel apples were too peanutty. I also bought 2 dozens of eggs for 99 cents each. Besides the eggs, I found nothing good about Aldi. Aldi is just not for me. TLDR: Aldi's is great...their delivery service, not so much. I have never been to this Aldi location, note that this is not a review of the store itself, but I have been to many an Aldi in my day and love them. When I learned today that I could have Aldi delivered to my Queens apartment (I live too far to conveniently go to the store), I was extremely excited. This, however, is a review of the Aldi delivery process... First, it is through a third party system called Instacart, which is somewhat of a bizarre experience. I placed my order online, through Aldi's website, which bounced to Instacart's system during checkout. Instacart then sends someone to the store to shop for you and deliver your groceries. Delivery is free, but of course you pay a service fee, a tip, and the items are marked up anywhere from ten cents to a dollar. Such would be the price for convenience, not terrible, and being an Aldi, still less money than a lot of grocery stores would charge for you to buy and bring home the groceries yourself. Except that as it turned out, this experience was not convenient. I ordered within a two hour delivery period, was sent text updates as the shopper picked up my things (it was weird for me), was given "refunds" as items were found to be out of stock, and so on. My shopper was finding bizarre items to be out of stock...bananas, green peppers, bread? But ok, maybe the store is really just that empty. All looks to be going smoothly, the order is out for delivery within the two hour time frame, when all of sudden it disappears from the system and starts back at square one. My order then appears to bounce around to a few potential shoppers, without much or any formal communication from Instacart, and finally, almost two hours after the original two hours, a new shopper is at the store getting my groceries. This new shopper turned out to be great. Bananas, green peppers and bread, it turns out, actually were in stock. Apparently the shoppers can message you directly, and she was very communicative. It was helpful, as by then I had lost confidence in the system, but ultimately if I'm paying for someone to buy my groceries for me, I don't particularly want to be sitting on my couch remote shopping with them...it was again, a bizarre experience. Long story longer, almost six hours later, I finally received my groceries. Additionally, and perhaps obviously, this experience was also not immune to the pitfalls you would imagine come with hiring someone to grocery shop for you...some of the items were incorrect (and Instacart paid much less for what I received than what I was ultimately charged for the items), produce selections left something to be desired, etc. I was able to report these items to Aldi/Instacart and request a refund. Fingers crossed I get it... I read reviews of Instacart when it was becoming debatable whether or not I would ever receive my groceries, and the reviews online are not great. In hindsight, I should've reviewed Instacart itself before using Aldi's service, but I naively trusted Aldi to have a system worked out if they were choosing to offer it to their consumers. Thankfully, some of the horror stories outlined online have either been resolved or did not happen to me. Instacart did charge an upfront cost much higher than the original bill, but they very quickly adjusted this once the final cost was determined. I have been able to easily request refunds for the incorrect items, although we will see how quickly or if I actually receive the refunds...my original shopper was obviously not good, but the shopper who ended up with my order was wonderful. On the whole, it was a strange experience. Not necessarily bad, but certainly not good, and with the potential to have gone so very wrong. Ultimately, I don't know that I will ever again bother with the inconvenience, for the sake of "convenience". It wasn't worth the hassle, even for Aldi's low, low prices. read more

Aldi may stock brands I've never heard of and won't buy, but due to its proximity to Costco, I love to come in here for a browse and for items I don't want bulk of. The fresh produce department always has sales, and it's nice to be able to get this type of merchandise in a mall setting and not have to buy ten pounds of whatever that I might end up composting. Occasionally, you can find the Naked Smoothies, and even small quantities of better quality cheese. Aldi's come a long way and has added a small organic section in it's fresh produce area. The refrigerator section does have bagged organic lettuce; buyer beware though. I've noticed that the dates on those are close or even on expiration. If you plan to use them soon, then I'm sure they're fine. Just do look at dates. For products like baking soda when it makes no difference if you buy generic, Aldi is a great place. Aldi is now even selling pre-made sandwiches, for those who want a quick bite. One year I bought Easter Lillies that were so fragrant I had a smile on my face every time I inhaled. Aldi does need to take better care of its live plants though. The specimens they sell sometimes look like weeds from lack of watering. This is a no frills store. The lighting makes everything look grey, even you, but Aldi isn't a place where you expect to be batting your eyelashes at the opposite sex. This Aldi is bigger than the one at Harlem but the lines are usually longer and still slow. You have to bag your own stuff. It's cash at Aldi's, though I think they take the debit cards that I never use. I don't buy much at Aldi but what I've bought, like the cheeses, fruit and veggies, I've been happy with. I have visited a couple of other Aldi's and this place is totally not for me. It was just plain crowded and messy plus to me the prices were pretty expensive compared to the other locations that I have visited. I really didn't spend much time here. I came in walked around navigated around the people in the aisles looked at their prices and just wanted out. I guess because of their location and their rent must be a lot higher for their price differences. For example their potato chips in this location is $1.79 per bag. I was in another Aldi location about a week ago the chips were $. 89 per bag for regular chips and $1.09 for a bag of kettle chips. It's a pretty big difference. I guess for this location, the people who shop here normally pay a lot more for their groceries that they find this place to be a bargain. I do not live near by here and I definitely would not come out of my way to shop here. I am just happy that there were other stores around so that my trip to this area was not wasted. read more

The poor man's market for food on sale. Aldi's sells a whole bunch of crap. Everything from canned foods, frozen food, candy, chips, beverages, and more. What I like about Aldi are their aisles. It's nice and wide and there's no cramming and no cart to cart collisions. This Aldi is located in Rego Center. The good part is that there is parking, the bad part is that it's not free! This is one of the biggest reason why I hate coming to Rego Center. Consumers are already spending a fair amount of dough in Costco's, Aldi's, Century 21, Kohl's, Miller's Ale House, Dallas BBQ, Staples, and more and they're unable to provide free parking to those who have a valid receipt. Verdict - We're in Queens, there is no reason to charge for parking in a place like this. Sky View Center in Downtown Flushing did this when they first opened and realized nobody wanted to pay for parking which hurt the businesses. Shortly after, they offered free parking for 2 hours and now, businesses has blossomed. read more

My daughter and I went to Aldi on Monday January 21, 2019. It was a freezing morning, 7 degrees. We ran to Aldi to buy some quick items. Five days later I open the bacon I bought here and I quickly smelled an odor. I though well maybe because it's vacuum sealed but I continue to look at the expiration date it was June 2018!!! Yes June 2018!!! I couldn't believe my eyes! I wrapped it up in plastic and two days later bought it back to the store. I asked an Aldi worker smoking outside about who I should speak to about this and she said I would receive a refund and a replacement bacon and to ask for a manager. I do this and the manager states I'll get a refund. I said miss this bacon expired 7 months ago!! No apology no nothing! She asked if I had a receipt I said no (I don't hoard my receipts) and told her I was there on Monday at 11am (check the store cameras if she wanted). She said she would give me my refund and I asked about the replacement bacon I was told I was to get and she said "oh yes!" Aldi is not around the corner for me and I'm glad I got a refund and the bacon, it takes time and gas to go back to a store that was not in your plans. Word of advice, always always check your dates here. I still like Aldi but an apology would have been nice on 7 month old bacon! read more

Some great deals: Vacuum packaged sirlion steaks @4.99/lb Chips and snacks....don't be fooled I am sure their nacho cheese tortillo chips are Doritos packaged in their own....$1.19 a bag Doritos $3.99/bag Most chips including potato and corn are $1.19 Bananas $.44/lb Cantaloupes $.99 All produce is great and fab prices. All bread products $.79 Frozen products....1 lb Jumbo shrimp $6.99 (uncooked) 12 oz large cocktail shrimp $3.99 Hamburger patties 12/quarter pounders $5.99 Dairy department: Eggs : 1.25/doz Milk is cheap half & Half 1.59/quart I ca go on and on, but you get the picture. I've been going here for a year now and find some of the recent criticisms...strange. Yes if you go when everyone else does, it can be crowded. Yes, sometimes it's hard to find a hand basket or shopping cart because of the number of customers shopping at the same time. But compared to a year ago, the management's made a concerted effort to correct these issues. No longer do you find the plaza and nearby curb impassible with shopping carts left by lazy customers. The staff is pleasant and helpful, the prices are better than local supermarket prices, there's a good selection of international foods, and the vegetarian/vegan options have been greatly increased. All in all, this is my favorite supermarket, even though it's several miles from where I live. read more

Welcome to the neighborhood, Aldi. This discount supermarket just opened its first store in NYC. At first I was wary, only hearing little tidbits from friends who have Aldi supermarkets in their hometowns. But, after taking a stroll from my Forest Hills apartment to check it out today, I take back all my jabs about it being a discount "short bus" kind of grocery store. It really is good. And, when I found out that they are owned by the same parent company as Trader Joe's, I decided to give it a fair shot. This location is not big, but it is organized well enough to be a go-in, get what you want, get out kind of place. For New Yorkers, this is a good thing because we always have someplace to be, something to do, and efficiency especially in grocery shopping is much appreciated. Score for Aldi. The selection is mostly basic grocery items using their own branding. You won't really find anything from name brands like Heinz or Campbells or General Mills. What you will find, similarly to TJ, are unknown brands packaged to look like items you commonly know. So, we'll all have to do our homework, try out the different items, and report back on what's good and what's not. We can debate quality and taste, but one thing we won't debate is that the prices are very attractive. read more

Decided to check out the new Aldi grocery store in Rego Park. It's a bit of a walk from my place, especially if you're carrying groceries, but I love to check a new food store. I was actually pretty excited about it. I've never been to one before but have heard good things. I suppose I thought it would be a great big new shiny store with lots of new things to try. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be going out of my way to shop here. There are good points and there are bad points. Everyone looks for different things and I get that, so I'll do my best to list the good along with the bad. Either way, you should check it out for yourself. Maybe it works for you. The thing that kept coming up in my mind was, 'is this the whole store?'. Even after I left I was questioning whether or not I missed something. The store was very clean and the service so friendly it was almost cult like. I always find it interesting to see how stores are laid out. At first I was a bit weary of the layout, until I realized that the store was so small, so the layout made more sense. You pack your own groceries, which is great. I like to use my own bags and lots of cashiers (in my neighborhood) seem to get annoyed when you use your own. Hopefully it encourages more people to use their own re-usable bags and such. It also keeps the lines moving pretty steadily and helps out on the overall prices. I couldn't find any bags for the produce. I don't know if I didn't see them or if they don't have them due their cutting costs thing. I really wouldn't mind paying the price for the produce bags. I don't really want to put my produce on the checkout belt. I can only imagine the amount of germs that are on a check out belt what with everyone touching stuff, then putting it on the belt. Plus, what if something is leaking, it gets on the belt and carries over to everything that goes on the belt afterward. Anyway, I don't want to have to bleach my produce when I get home. They don't sell tofu. Or any other vegetarian friendly things for that matter. No whole grains, no tempeh, no interesting sauces or spices. Okay, so I know this is not an issue for everyone and their market research probably told them they didn't have to worry it. And yes, I'm a bit of a food snob. Being a foodie living in New York City has certainly given me certain expectations of a grocery store. I'm not saying they have to have a huge variety of things, but if they're owned by the TJ people, maybe they could come to a compromise between the two with their product offerings. Yes, their prices are pretty cheap, if you're more of the pre-packaged food kind of shopper. I suppose this place is more for the family shoppers where certain kinds of food discounts are more important. I didn't experience any savings that I couldn't get in my own immediate neighborhood or that would make it worth the trip. And I can certainly get a much more exciting selection near home. Great prices, as pretty much everyone else has said. I carry canvas bags and live in walking distance anyway, so their bag and cart policy isn't an inconvenience for me. Besides, for the people complaining: that's the kind of corner-cutting that allows them to pass the savings on to the customer. There's really just a handful of items I get here on the regs to round out my shopping after going to Costco. Some of the proprietary items are great, while you're better off paying for name brand on others. The only way to find out is trial and error. The number one item for me is the Artisan lettuce, which makes gorgeous salads and costs under two bucks. Lots of great dairy and frozen items, too. Bags of nuts and trail mixes abound for cheaper than any place I know of. On the downside, I have to say, this place really seems to attract dumb people. By that I mean people who walk around like zombies, blocking aisles while there are three people behind them trying to get past. Also, I tend to get maybe one or two things at a time. Yet when I invariably find myself standing behind someone who has a whole cartload of groceries it has never occurred to anyone to say "you've only got those two items? Why don't you go ahead of me?" I mean, it's not really a big deal, but it's something I have done so many times for others because it's the considerate thing to do. It would be lovely if just once someone could get over their navel-gazing and send a little karma my way. Then again, life isn't a vending machine where you put in good deeds and get happiness in return, but still.... Overall, Aldi's is great to have in the neighborhood for those on a budget, or those just looking for normal sized pantry items to supplement their haul from Costco. Gotta love that! read more

The prices are great! I like the concept of the barebones supermarket, tho they charge you $0.11 for a plastic bag and their real shopping bags are often sold out if you forget to bring your own. They have some boxes by the counter but that will not be a good substitute if you are taking the bus home. I like to think of Aldi as TJ's super cheap cousin. I made sure to stock up on pumpkin puree for my Thanksgiving baking in the past couple weeks. Aldi was charging $0.89 whereas other stores were charging at least a dollar more - yeah, call me cheap but that's booze money. Veggie selection is small but I've never been disappointed with what I've purchased here. The sprouted bread is a good deal @ $3 for a small loaf. Canned stuff and spices are also amazingly priced. I always leave with chocolate. I love their cookies n' cream bar! So good! I also recommend stocking up on baking essentials because there's nothing worse than being ripped off for vanilla extract. Don't trust people who use imitation vanilla. Enough said. Aldi is awesome. read more

I went to my first Aldi in Georgia. I LOVED IT. When I heard over a year ago that Aldi was looking to go into Queens, I was ecstatic. I LOVE THEIR PRICES. You can only get staple products in Aldi's. It is not a specialty store at all. The person writing the review about vegan products should go on Aldi's website to read Aldi's philosophy. Aldi's is trying to sell things that move fast. They only carry products that are purchased most frequently. This helps Aldi to keep the prices low. Can't keep specialty items at a low cost. No one buys specialty items but few select people. You can buy milk, dairy, bread, very ordinary produce and meats, canned food, frozen foods and LOTS of junk food. They pack in a lot of product in a small space. I must be living in NYC for a long time because Aldi's is not that small to me. How big are food markets around NYC?! The employees are super duper nice. The store is super clean and neat. Last night I got two HUGE bags of groceries for $22.40. Carrying it back to the car was not easy. Bring your own bags! Parking in the mall is not free. Pet peeve of mine! Costco is in the same mall....Costco is NOT CHEAP. Yes, Costco has name brands but they are not cheap even though it is sold in bulk. Plus Costco charges a fee. Families can do better in Aldi's! In Aldi's buy as little or as much as you want. Costco is not friendly to the single person. I am returning my Costco membership! UPDATE: it's been months since my original review Aldi's is still going strong and still gets very positive reviews from me the parking lot is only $2.00 we've come 2 an understanding, the food quality is still great up there with Trader Joe's, I did a lot of holiday shopping here. They also have seasonal items which I like i.e. turkey & stuffing on thanksgiving, it is a now a weekly stop. BTW Football fans -- they had CHICKEN WINGS on SALE at a $1.00 a pound.. and they ran a $2.00 off each 6 pound bag... yeah that's right 6pound bag of chicken wings for $4bucks. ALDI HAS ARRIVED QUEENS! I've been a fan of Aldi's in Ohio -- but I NEVER thought I would see it in Queens! Much less on Queens Blvd. . I should take away a point for the Rego Park Location which = MUCHO Traffic & Pay2Park - but that would be kinda unfair b/c all of NYC = Mucho traffic & Pay2Park. Bottom Line: Aldi's mainly sells its own private-label items at cheap prices! U can only buy with cash or debit (NO CREDIT), you bag your own groceries, bring your own bags -Environmentally friendly -- or expect to pay. At Aldi's it is like the entire store is stocked with store brand items -- everything is RIDONKULOUSLY cheap. Shredded Cheese & Brick Cheese 1.50 to $2.00 == and it is real wisconsin cheese not imitation. Bag spinach = 1.29, Frozen Wild Caught Salmon Fillets $3.19 for a pound (individually wrapped filets). This branch is VERY VERY clean. Spotless. All the meats are well priced, check dates like you would any grocery store -- my husband loves the turkey ham & honey turkey deli slices. Also the turkey bacon is a great deal. Great to stock your pantry on the cheap without having 2 eat ram-en noodles like you are still 18 in college. VERY RECESSION FRIENDLY. Some of the products at Aldis are national US brands--when Aldis can get a special buy on them. Some of the products are Aldis store brands. Before dismissing the store brands as "junk" -- which some reviewers have done -- read the labels. On the whole, Aldis products use "real food" as opposed to xanthan gum, guar gum, locust bean gum, etc. They generally are not polluted with yeast derivatives. The tomato soup tastes like tomatoes, not like yeast (which is what Campbell soup tastes like). Some products are absolutely delicious, others might not be to your taste. What none of the reviewers has mentioned is Aldis guarantee--if you don't like the product return it for a full price refund. Find me another grocery store that offers that to you. read more

I went to Aldi today after hearing amazing things about it. This was my first ever time at Aldi. Good... -You have to bring your own bags. -They only take debit/cash. -Their cashiers get to sit. -I noticed several positive employee customer interactions. -Cheap packaged/canned food -$4 boxes of frozen mini cream puffs and eclairs ($8 at BJs for the SAME thing)! Bad... -THE PRODUCE WAS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. I watched as customer after customer walked up to the pre-packaged salad case, and walked away because all the lettuce was goopy and brown. The asparagus was shriveled. The avocados were rotten. I understand that I went on a Sunday, but this was inexcusable. Only some of the citrus looked halfway decent. -The way the products are made to look like American brand products really disturbed me. I know that it is probably so that they will sell better, but I wish they were branded in a more Aldi specific way. I walked a mile to get to Aldi, and I probably won't be making the trip that often. I will update this review after I taste their "Nutella." read more

I'm not a frequent Aldi shopper but I stop in every now and then to see what they have. There are a few select things I like from this supermarket such as the crab and lobster ravioli and they're so much cheaper than the ones they sell at Shoprite and Stop & Shop. The milk is also a great price and that's a heavily consumed item in my home. They have a limited number of name brand items and the prices are as competitive as mass merchants. While I wouldn't do all my shopping here I don't mind purchasing the occasional item. If you don't have your own bag and don't want to buy a bag there's a pile of free boxes in the back of the store that you are welcome to use. read more

This is a great place for staples. The off brands that Aldi carries are usually great quality. I think the one thing I didn't like was the alfredo sauce. Otherwise, the fruit is fresh and I really like the Fit and Active brand of items as a whole. Someone mentioned the store was full of junk. I'd have to disagree. I think the store looks junky, but when it comes to a grocery store I'll gladly look over that and take a real look at the items around me. If you want healthy staples in your routine, it's there. If you want junk food dinners full of chicken nuggets (real chicken and very good) and pizza bagels, they have that too. The Aldi version of Triscuits is $1.49/box, paired with a cup of port wine cheese for $2.99 and I've made my favorite snack for far less than I would at most stores. It doesn't accept credit cards, but for the amount that the average person spends I don't think it's impossible to cough up the money in the form of cash or debit and from experience in retail I know that they don't take credit as a way of saving money (it costs stores a few cents/transaction which adds up over time). Those savings are passed on to the consumer. I've noticed a variety of claims about the cost of bags. I forgot my reusable bag today ($1.50 at Aldi) and according to my receipt sitting in front of me I paid 6 cents for the paper bag I got today. read more
