This was the closest Aldi grocery store to where we had eaten lunch. I'd read about a few new things at Trader Joe's supermarket and since Aldi's owns Trader Joe's, I wondered if they carried a copycat version. Unfortunately, we didn't find anything similar, but we did take the opportunity to browse the shelves and get in some steps. As in most of these stores, it was fairly neat with each section having only a limited number of items. But if you don't care about a particular brand name or ingredients (do read all the labels/lists), then you can save some money on a number of items. They had some mandarin oranges on sale -- which we saw later for $2 more at another store -- so we bought some of those. And a few other impulse items to try. Having shopped other Aldi stores, we know that if you see something here that you want, you need to buy it right away. You may never see the same item again either at the same store or at other stores. Check out was fast as we didn't have that many items. And the cashiers are "graded" on how fast they can scan everything and place it in a cart, so its faster than you even might want. We'd brought our own expandable shopping bag into the store, and it wasn't a problem to carry out to the car what we needed (after returning our cart to the "corral" to retrieve our quarter).

    For your morning coffee.

Think of Aldi's as the estranged brother of Trader Joe's. The abbreviated history is that Aldi's and Trader Joe's were owned by German brother's who fell out over whether or not to sell cigarettes. One headed the chain that became Aldi's and the other chain became Trader Joe's. While Trader Joe's has great prices, Aldi will beat them and just about everyone else's prices every time. You can still signs of that German heritage all over Aldi's like the German roasted coffee they sell. If you want to save money on groceries Aldi's is a great way to do it. In order to bring you those low prices Aldi's has instituted some cost cutting measures. If you want a cart you will need to bring a quarter and to get your money back you need to return your cart from the parking lot back to the store saving employees from having to collect the carts. You will also have to bring your own bags or pay for theirs. Lines will most likely be long because they keep their staff to a bare bones minimum. Best of all is the check out. To get people through the line more quickly they will literally throw your groceries into the cart they keep chained at the check out. You will frantically try to grab your items out but will never be fast enough. After enough visits to Aldi I am getting better at handling the checkout process. I have started to become addicted to Aldi's having joined several Facebook groups like Aldi's Nerds and a Aldi's recipe group (thanks Rachel). Since items vary from store to store I have started to check out different ones when come upon them. This store I had a load of the Halloween items I was looking for. I was able to pick up the Halloween three wick candles for $5. My favorite scent was the Witches Brew. I also purchased some skeleton mugs, the Happy Halloween Sweet Bloody red wine, skeleton pajamas for my daughter, Halloween socks, and monster cookie mix. So many fun items and inexpensive too in addition to the groceries. Like all good things at Aldi's grab it when you see it because it likely won't be there when you go back.

I have been an Aldi's shopper for many years and will continue to be for years to come. Aldi's is like the Spirit Airlines of grocery stores. Want a cart? That'll be a quarter. Plastic bag when you check out? Ten cents each. It's not a huge deal. Plan accordingly. Bring your own bags to save yourself the headache of figuring out how many bags you may or may not need or be like me and buy some but never buy enough. The store is not huge so it's easy to get in and out rather quickly. They have a pretty big wine selection for a discount grocery store. I have never had a problem with any of their ground meat, poultry or produce. And it's just cheaper than the competitors. The lines can be long but once they get in a rhythm they begin to pick up. Be patient. You're going to be saving some serious cash so it's worth it in the end. Don't forget your twenty five cents for the cart and you're set. And when you return it you get your money back so it's win/win you guys.

Spotting this sign is better than seeing the Golden Arches.

Oh man I'm just loving this store! My friend that lives in Germany told me about this place sometime ago, then waddayaknow...there's one literally around the corner from my apartment! Everything is dirt cheap in every category. I thought I needed a stronger prescription for my glasses when I saw the prices on the items and wanted to faint out of disbelief. They even have non food items like rain boots, wall decor and other lifeline accessories for great prices. Geesh, talk about a one stop shop. This place is the cat's meow for heavens sake! Other Notes: - Beer and Wine available. - Bring a quarter to rent a shopping cart. - I suggest bringing a reusable tote or bag because they only provide boxes, I think at $.10-$.25. - Debit cards are accepted. - I always end up paying on average $30 and my groceries last for about 2 weeks...and I eat a lot!

Of course.. There's a wait outside at 10am, right when they open.

When you return the cart, you get your quarter back (which sounds like football, but it isn't).

At other times, there are horse shows and competitions in the same general area. Parking is free for everyone! They provide handicapped parking for those with valid placards. Just show it to the parking guides. We rarely see horses here during the market, but it sometimes seems that EVERYONE brings their dog. Any many of the vendors cater to the dogs as well, selling dog food, treats, doggie duds, toys and more. Parkland's dog parks, (one for little dogs and one for large dogs), called Barkland, are right down the road from the Farmer's Market. It is not a large market, but it has a nice selection of items. Many of the vendors give out tasting samples. There are food trucks as well, and a covered seating area, so feel free to buy food at the market and eat breakfast, brunch or lunch right there. The people who sell honey let you taste any and all. Be sure you taste brfore you buy. The honeys have a very broad range of flavors and colors, with avocado honey being almost avocado green...Really! The french bakery has yummy breads & pastries. The croissants are fresh, yet, when we sat down to eat them at the market, we decided we like them better lightly toasted with butter and/or honey on them. I'm bringing the rest home. Samples are always free at the apple cider donut booth, kettle korn, paela, dips, salsas, banana breads, (one if our favorite vendors). Believe it or not, the item least represented are fruits and vegetables. You'd think that at a Farmer's Market, there would be more. Many of the fruits and veggies even come complete with stickers, printed with codes for the supermarket. Not everything is homegrown....
