I recently visited Branchton Farms, and honestly, I left feeling extremely disappointed and upset…read more I am not normally someone who leaves negative reviews, but what I witnessed here needs to be addressed and heard. The overall condition of the facility was extremely run-down, and more importantly, the condition of some of the animals was deeply concerning. As someone who has raised and cared for farm animals my entire life, I know what proper care, housing, cleanliness, and basic husbandry should look like--and what I saw was absolutely not it. One situation in particular really upset me. There was a large Brahman heifer being kept in an EXTREMELY small pen--so small that she could barely do anything more than turn around. Yes, the pen opened into a larger "paddock," but the entire area was extremely thick and deep with mud. I understand that Florida gets a tremendous amount of rain, but that does not excuse leaving an animal standing in those conditions. At the very least, the area should be maintained and the mud managed when possible. Keeping cattle in constantly wet, muddy conditions can contribute to serious hoof rot problems. What concerned me even more was the condition of this heifer herself. Her rear hocks appeared extremely swollen, and she seemed uncomfortable and painful when moving. She also appeared to have an open, bleeding area behind one of her front legs. I do not know what caused the injury, but seeing an animal in that condition without knowing whether it was being treated was extremely upsetting. And unfortunately, this was not the only issue. The water in what appeared to be roughly 90% of the animal pens was BLACK, dirty, and full of mud. Clean drinking water is one of the absolute most basic necessities for any animal. Dumping a trough, washing it out, and refilling it takes only a few minutes. There is simply no reason animals should be expected to drink filthy, muddy water. I also did not see fans available for the animals, which is especially concerning given Florida's extreme heat and humidity. I am not writing this review to be hateful or dramatic. I am writing it because I genuinely care about animals, and it was heartbreaking to see them in these conditions. These animals depend entirely on the people responsible for them to provide clean water, appropriate housing, proper medical attention, and basic care. I sincerely hope Branchton Farms takes these concerns seriously and makes immediate improvements to the care and living conditions of these animals. They deserve MUCH better. I hate leaving a review like this, but staying quiet when something is clearly wrong would bother me even more. Please take care of these animals and give them the care they deserve.

Bearss Groves might have the prettiest pumpkins I've ever seen…read more I wanted to get Halloween pumpkins with the kids. I also would like to get a cute autumn picture or two of them without the whole place being a zoo. And I didn't want to drive too far out of Tampa. Bearss Groves fit the bill. It's a cute farmer's market with plenty of very attractive pumpkins, a pretty set up for a picture out front, and a reasonable distance from 275. The pumpkins were all in great shape, no rotten pumpkins mixed in. My husband commented that he's never seen such a nice selection of pumpkins in one place. They also have some other local produce and items, many at very reasonable prices. I got some good Florida honey and locally produced jam for much lower prices than you'd fine at a grocery store.

Don't sleep on just a plain bowl of strawberries with whipped cream either. I normally find myself wanting more strawberries after a milkshake, and the bowl of strawberries is the perfect compliment. As for the lines, they can be pretty long. But they do a really good job at making the lines move quickly. The prices are also very reasonable. The market also has all sorts of fresh veggies, fruits, and strawberry related items, like jams, breads, and even cookies!

It was pretty disappointing not being able to have it. I opted to get a strawberry bread (apparently it's always season for that) when I was there and it was really good! I wasn't quite in the mood for a milkshake, but the milkshakes are supposedly good here as well. Besides the strawberry treats, there is a whole store inside with a variety of jams, hot sauces, and merchandise as well as fresh fruit and veggies for sale. The seating area is really adorable (you can see it in the picture I posted). I guess I'll just have to come back during shortcake season to let you know if it's worth the "world famous" title.

It is open to the public and it does get super busy in the afternoon so I would try to get there early. The parking lot is a little tight to pull into, but not terrible. Inside you will find huge items in bulk and all your groceries store essentials. Also the have wholesale items and all kinds of international stuff to make different cuisines, plus containers, plating, etc.. They have a really nice meat section and fruits and vegetables section as well. I was able to get everything I need plus more for the week.

And for a local business, this is what you want and this is what you should expect, and this is what you get! So I have no problem taking the extra time and gas going there, especially when they have things that many other places do not. They have produce, plants and a little room with products from the larger Bay Area...along with some other seasonal fun items you can decorate with, etc... And even some gift items. This time, in addition to my pink pineapples....I also purchased the Farmhouse brand guava jelly (as a gift) and am excited to present it along with the pineapple and a bottle of rosé. Fun little gift idea and they had all the goods. The parking would be the only thing I don't like, each time I've gone, I'm not sure I'm in the way of someone else trying to get in and maneuver around because the paved area isn't so paved and lots of large holes and it's on a corner so part of the time I feel like I'm on part of a sidewalk, but I don't really know...it's not marked. But that's ok. I tend to go when it's not so busy and haven't had any issue yet. I really like this place mainly because of the people!
