Not sure where to start with this amazing hidden gem! I'll start with the ambiance: cute outdoor seating with couch / bench style on one side of the table. Inside there is a lounge area with couches and then the bar. All of it is so nice and cozy. Perfect for romantic date night or wine with girlfriends. Service: 15/10. Amazing!! Everyone from the hostess to the bartender, immediately attentive and incredibly nice. Told the bartender what kind of wines I typically like and she recommended a few great ones. Very quaint and such a relaxing vibe. I strongly recommend if you are in the area to try it out. It is a little hard to find as it is in a little alley area, but the signs are big enough to spot it. You had me at Wine Bar! As someone who is in the wine industry, I appreciate wine bars like this one. Unfortunately, we did not have reservations for Le Bernardin's but we were able to score a few seats at their wine bar before heading to dinner for our anniversary. First off, the place is a bit hidden, kind of tucked in the back and to the right of Le Bernardin. Also, I would've never had gone here if it weren't for a colleague who told me about this. Thank you btw! The decor is hip, modern, romantic and classy. The staff were just setting up for the evening so we were basically the only two or so people there. We met a few friendly bartenders. I ordered a glass of Sparkling wine from Burgundy. My husband had their Pinot Noir from Germany. We enjoyed both! After time passed, I honestly did not want to leave for our reservations. I called the restaurant to let them know to push back our reservations to a later time. We stayed for a glass of Champagne. Best start to our anniversary! My NY home away from home. Every visit finds me here once or twice. Great selection of delicious wines by the glass and a knowledgeable staff to help you pick exactly which one you didn't know you loved. Snacks and sharing plates are delicious--the cheese and charcuterie platter served as a light dinner for two--and the cheeses were at the perfect ripeness. Some runny, some crumbly and all yummy. An excellent wine bar with the kind of curation and quality you'd expect from Le Bernardin's sommelier. The interior of Aldo Sohm is cozy and intimate- it's a bit removed from the street, so you might not know it's there if you aren't looking. Reservations open two weeks in advance, and there wasn't much space for walk ins (although there are some seats near the door). The wine is where Aldo Sohm really shines, as you'd expect- everything we tried was superb (a Bordeaux blend, a crémant d'Alsace, and a fantastic rosé). There are a good range of options at various price points. We saw the charcuterie towers going by frequently and they truly looked like works of art, even the carved wooden tower itself is lovely- I'd definitely order one next time! We were happy with the food options we did sample, especially the short rib sliders- they are pricey ($8 each) but the best bite of food we had all night. The pear and walnut salad and grilled avocado were also surprise favorites- both were fresh and unique. The baked Camembert was a bit pungent, but paired well with the fresh apple slices and baguette crostini it was served with. We were excited to try the salmon rillettes, but didn't end up loving them- they were a bit fishy. We did appreciate that both the salmon and Camembert came with a pile of baguette crostini- there's nothing worse than only getting a few crackers with your spread! Stopped by here recently for their 'express lunch' as a few coworkers said it's a good value. Perhaps because it was one of the first warm spring days, it was busier than usual since the meal was not very express at all. It took nearly 90 minutes. We sat outside (which is covered BTW if its raining). For my two choices, I did the chicken Caesar salad and the tomato caprese panini. My friend did the tomato soup and the same salad. The salad was as expected- lots of cheese and dressing. Decent size. It took a very long time for the first course and the '2nd' course to come out. The panini was a lot smaller than I was expected - not much filling either. I expected it to be bigger/different. A table next to us got the mushroom croque-monsieur and that looked like a bigger portion - she had her soup and sandwich brought out at the same time, and she dipped it in the soup - very good idea! I may do that the next time if I come back. The biggest rip off was the $5.50 coke my friend ordered. The glass was maybe 12 ounces most and filled with so much ice. This is a fantastic wine bar, I stop by every time I'm in New York. They always have an excellent selection of quality wines by the glass that you won't find on most menus across the country. No matter which wine I select I know it will be a stunning glass! I highly recommend getting their bread and cheese/charcuterie plates. Their cheese and meat selections are also very top notch. You can't go wrong with this dish! And I love that they changed it up frequently. They do have food dishes on their menu but to be honest I haven't been incredibly impressed with most of them. By most restaurant standards they are pretty good but because this is a sister restaurant to Le Bernadin I was expecting the quality and taste of the food to be better... An after-work upscale wine bar with an outdoor patio for the midtown suit-and-tie office set. It's a bit hidden in the atrium of a Midtown office complex, so if you're there you probably work right above or went on Yelp. The selections are really legit, with several bottles and blends that were new to me. The server knew his stuff and I tested his chops a couple of times. The prices are exorbitant, but sadly not unrealistic for 2025. Expect to pay an average of $20-23 per glass. We didn't sample the food, so I won't comment on that. Now although I had the lunch special at $17 i still expected the same portion as of i was sitting there. I have had sit down lunches there plenty of times and was quite satisfied but not Takeout. I asked for no feta in my chopped salad and it seems because I made this request my salad was thrown together. I even gave a $5 tip on $18.51 check unbeknownst the size of my food. Well here we are again beating the Disappointment Drum... I know there are so many bad things happening in the world & if this was the worst thing in my life I'd be very happy. I'd had a rough week at work (who hasn't!?) so I thought I'd treat myself by grabbing lunch from a wine bar instead of the usual Salad / Sandwich options, but what I was actually doing was treating myself badly! Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup from a fancy-ish wine bar ... got to be a winner?! Nope. There were some flimsy pieces of off-cut cheese placed btwn dry focaccia bookends. No seasoning (come on, not even a sprinkle of black pepper?), not even grilled nor warm, despite the fact I sat in the restaurant for 15 mins waiting, so I thought it would at least be warm & fresh. I wasn't going to post a review, cos they shared my horror when I pointed it out, they were so apologetic & seemed genuine... they said they would follow-up ... I didn't really need that, but they said they would do it cos I seemed like their target market & they didn't want to lose me forever ... now I'll be honest, in this cold world a little warmth & feeling like I mattered for a moment was huge & I had a positive feeling as I left... Fast Forward a week & nothing ... as I should've expected. I got refunded - but if I hadn't walked the 5 mins from my office back to this place they wouldn't have given a shit. Just don't say you will do something & then don't do it. It's so disrespectful. Wine is predictably great, food solid and greatest linzer tart ever, thanks to Le Bernadin pastry chef. However, the room, music and vibe are straight out of some mid hotel restaurant in a soulless city that shuts down after 7 PM. Surprisingly corporate vibe, particularly given the impeccable taste of Le Bernadin next door. Both wines were really good. The charcuterie was tasty and quite generous. Now look around - you'll see some molds on the shelves for example that look like glass halves. They are just that - the two pieces of wood that wine glasses are formed into. So much eye candy, from art on the walls, to the shelves of things to look at - it was really a nice experience. We didn't have a reservation but got lucky - there were two seats at the bar when we arrived! The service was great, and the bartender talked us through some of the skin contact/natural options they had by the bottle and recommended one in particular. I'm glad we trusted her recommendation, because the wine was excellent, special. The space is cool - high ceilings, but dark and moody. Loved the ambiance. I'd happily return, drink another recommended bottle, and maybe even nosh on their cheese boards (which looked beautiful and delicious) before another show. They are one of the coolest by the glass programs I've ever experienced and their bottle program is amazing as well. Our server Michael made some excellent recommendations and had just the right amount of engagement with us without being pushy. It might've helped that we were there with one of their regulars Luke, but I don't think that was the case. I think these people are just knowledgeable and hospitable.the manager, Julia came by and also spent some time chatting about wine and various regions of the world. This is the most painful review I have ever had to write. Normally, if I have a negative experience, I brush it off as the staff/kitchen having a bad day. But this was undoubtedly the absolute worst dining experience my husband and I have ever had, and I am completely dumbfounded that we dropped over $200 for some of the worst food we've ever eaten, and for mediocre wine (except for the last wine). Let's start with the good: the space is beautiful. The art throughout the space is interesting, the lighting is thoughtful and warm. The cushioned seating in the center of the wine bar is odd and awkward, but it was fine. The service was fine, but disjointed. Servers were friendly, but surprisingly not very knowledgeable nor helpful when it came to the wines. Until the last person (3 of 3) who helped our table. She was fantastic! The wine list is good. The first two wines we ordered were fine - but definitely way overpriced, beyond normal markup. The final wine we ordered upon suggestion of the third server was fantastic. That wine - a 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva - was divine. The food. We are still in awe of just how terrible the food was. The bruschetta, while interesting in theory, was impossible to eat. The orechiette we ordered seemed to have come from two different vats of pasta mixed together: half of it was just right, and the other half was dry, tough, and inedible. A couple of sad strands of grocery store-quality prosciutto (which is fine if we were eating at home) were tossed on top. The garlic lemon shrimp was the edible saving grace of the meal, but it, too, had some issues: the shrimp was overcooked, it was lacking seasoning, the flavors seemed disjointed. We were very much looking forward to Aldo Sohm, given the big names behind the wine bar, and we left utterly gutted. We still cannot believe just how disappointing this experience was. If I were to give it another shot (which I might, if we lived in NY), I'd sit at the bar and just order a glass of wine. Then I'd go for dinner elsewhere. read more

Stopped by for post-dinner drinks with friends on a Thursday night and we were able to make a reservation ahead of time. We only ordered drinks so this review is mainly around the wine and ambiance. There's plenty of lounge seating inside and outside and the mood overall is great - classy and comfortable it's a great setting all around. For the wine menu, there is a page of wines that can be ordered by the glass and we ended trying a few different wines. I personally loved the orange wine and my friend really liked the wines that our waiter recommended. One odd note is that they only have one wine menu for several tables so we weren't able to keep a menu which for a wine bar, it would be easy to have a digital menu if the selection changes often. read more

Oops, I forgot to review Aldo Sohm back in the day. Okay, here goes. Dark, romantic ambience pairs well with upscale wines and gourmet dishes. This is where you go with your boss who's paying, your father-in-law who's paying, or anyone else who's paying. The best bang for your buck is the "Wine Flight: Into the Loire Valley". $55 nets you three very generous, very full pours of two whites and one red from the Loire Valley. Food-wise, the generous bowl of Pot de Creme did not disappoint, and the Pate and Cheese plates were both rich and tasty. A word on the wine selection: It's heavily Eurocentric, so don't come here expecting unique or rare finds. I did spot one bottle from Lebanon, but didn't feel like shelling $120+ for something my local liquor store carries. read more

Very good ambiance to sit for a few hours and catch up with friends. The wine was great-we got an Italian white wine (I forget the name) and I got the chocolate mousse, which was creamy, light, and delicious. My friends got pasta which they enjoyed. Stopped there for dinner with friends before a show at Radio City Music Hall. Small and cozy place close to the venue. The service was terrific and the food was very good. We opted for drinks instead of wine. We were very happy saying what a good fine until the check came. Our drink prices were ridiculous. Instead of a flat charge for a cocktail, each individual liquor and mix was charged separately. For example, vodka & soda was a charge for the vodka and an additional charge for the soda. I have never had this happen. So, if you go, I suggest drinking wine. read more

I was on a work trip to New York and stumbled into this place around the corner from my office. The decor and ambience drew me in, there is very cool art on the walls and very neat seating arrangements, including more intimate couch seating. The service was excellent, and so was the food. I enjoyed my wine paired with the bruschetta appetizer, which had the juiciest most flavorful tomatoes on top of the perfectly crisp bread. And for my meal I split the crispy duck leg with my boyfriend. It was delicious but isn't very large so if you're hungry, it's definitely good for one person and if you're just there for bites, it can be split between two.
