The space itself is so cute and unique, with plenty to look at and a great vibe whether you're there for drinks, dinner, or a special occasion. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Stumbled in here almost by accident and my first piece of advice is do not enter if you're on gummies and it's Alice in Wonderland season as the decor will blow your mind as firmly as the graphics at a Dead show in the Sphere. Victorian decor with periodic thematic overlays. Longest bar in NYC. Quite a trip to visit this place. Service was good, initial seating was not -- they passed a bunch of desireable tables and tried to jam us next to the restrooms in a tight space with uncomfortable chairs. Oscar Wilde is a bit of a gimmick, I'd say, a hit among the themed-bars crowd and impressive to anyone not native to New York. I found the hodgepodge of old-timey decor to be a bit kitsch, but to each their own. I came with a group on a weeknight with no reservation. We were seated immediately on a high wood table. Although the bar wasn't busy (there were plenty of empty spaces, small groups scattered throughout the area), the service was quite slow. The server was inattentive and took a while to take our orders. We had to ask her for water three times, searching for her across the room in an attempt to catch her attention. She was a bit absent during the two-ish hours we were there. On the bright side, the drinks were fairly good. I ordered this strawberry vodka cocktail topped with whole mint. I'm wary of vodka for its harsh, unpleasant taste, but I found this drink to actually be very pleasant, tasing like a fruit smoothie you'd get from a local juicer. There was also a burgundy drink served on a wine glass that tasted like the holidays. I liked that one quite a bit. Overall, Oscar Wilde was an okay experience. Met up with some friends for drinks for St. Patrick's day. Very festive & happening bar/restaurant. My friend made a reservation, and we got there earlier, but was called to sit quickly. The menu is a sign on a QR code on the table. Happy hour is 2-6 and just made it with minutes to spare. We wanted to order a pitcher of sangria but waitress told us they don't do pitchers. We all go single glasses instead. Drinks came out fast. They aren't overly strong. It was also a good portion. We also ordered buffalo cauliflower bites and hummus and naan. This place gets a solid 3.5 and here's why: - a reservation is still needed - because I wanted to keep our stroller with us, we were sat in a corner that barely had decorations ... just a few gold strings of lights, a broken nutcracker next to our table - our waitress didn't offer us a high chair, but the busboy did halfway through our meal - the drinks were ok but the fries were hard and stale ... Oscar Wilde is absolutely gorgeous decorated for Christmas, and the line outside reflects that. When we arrived in the evening, the weekend before Christmas, there was a line down the block and a bouncer at the door enforcing 1 in, 1 out. Once inside, there was absolutely NO space to stand or sit. Every chair and bar stool was taken, and we couldn't even find somewhere *near* the bar to stand. There was no way we could even order a drink. They should have let less people in. After 10-15 minutes of wandering around aimlessly, we were about to give up and leave, but saw a couple getting up and quickly took their now-vacant barstools. We shared a drink and sat taking in the decor. Every single inch of the walls and ceiling were decorated. It was festive and cozy but somehow not cramped or cluttered feeling. Wow! What an amazing place this is! When my daughter and I stopped in for drinks this past week, the restaurant was decorated for Halloween. When I say decorated, it's insane how crazy they made it! From the front door to the ceiling, it's amazing. Beyond Halloween though, the place has amazing decor. So much is imported from Europe and South America...including the stained glass from Milan. Returned to Oscar Wilde for dinner during the holiday season and it was packed even in the middle of the week. Very lively atmosphere and very well decorated for the holidays. We started with the Crispy Calamari which was not bad and had the Wilde Wagyu Bacon Cheeseburger and Shepherd's Pie for entrees - both very good. The Tiramisu for dessert was a nice finish. If you're coming This place instantly pulls you into a different era -- like stepping into a Jane Austen story -- and right now the whole space is transformed for Christmas. Giant ornaments, holiday trees, snow globes, reindeer, Santa, polar bears... the decorations are incredible and make the whole place feel magical. For families: make a weekend reservation and request low seating. There are a lot of high tables, so that note really helps. Service is on the slower side, but the food surprised me in the best way. The Wagyu bacon burger was thick, juicy, and came with crispy fries. The sausage had a nice char, and my buttermilk chicken and waffle was juicy inside and delicious with syrup. But some of the boys got drinks like their Smoked Old Fashioned, Beers, etc. One thing to note, when we sat down, we had to look at the menu on our phones. Turns out, they do have real menus! Even with a reservation we had to wait quite a while, but at least we could savor the festive environment. I ordered the gingerbread holiday drink but it didn't come with a gingerbread man cookie like it was supposed to, just a round one. My friend's drink, The Cornelia (I think?) was refreshing and I'd order that next time .our beet salad was delicious and I really enjoyed my shepherds pie (made with lamb). Brought my mom to Oscar Wilde for her birthday the weekend after Halloween. I wanted to bring my mom here because after seeing the pictures and learning about this location, I thought my mom would enjoy the Victorian style decor and ambience. To my surprise, the Halloween decor was still up, and I was so excited because I had been wanting to go previously for Halloween weekend. The second you walk in, you are all by the amount of the core covering every single inch of the space. The walls, and the ceiling all were beautifully decorated, and the entire time I was dying and I was in awe. We arrived during happy hour and we're able to order some apps and cocktails off the happy hour menu. I ordered the writers quill as my drink which came in a cute tea cup, which essentially wasn't an espresso martini. To start we enjoyed the Wagyu sliders which were 10 out of 10 and an order of buffalo wings. For our entrées, my mom ordered the Bronzino, which was absolutely delicious! For dessert, the waitress let us know that there is complementary bread pudding that was served with vanilla ice cream, and in addition we ordered the tiramisu. Both were phenomenal! Our server was super friendly and quick, despite and absolutely full restaurant at the time. I was super entertained the entire time from all the Halloween decor all around me, and even finding the more antique style decor on the way to the restroom. Stopped in for some Christmas spirit late one night after dinner. We waited outside for about 30 minutes which felt pretty reasonable considering the popularity and time of year. I was not expecting, however, for there to be absolutely no space when we finally got in. We knew it would be standing room only at the bar, but we could not even get that until about 15 minutes of wandering inside looking hopeful for couples who seemed to be getting ready to leave. When we eventually found space at the bar, we took note of the festive menu and ended up ordering what I believe to be a basic Espresso Martini ( I believe the name was Writers Quill? or along those lines). It was 22 dollars with tip which felt pretty on par with the local bars and restaurants. The martini itself was nothing special, but I enjoyed it. The decorations were awesome and we had a blast just looking around at all of them for a few minutes. The mediocre service was understandable considering how busy they were. It is a bar, so while I wasn't expecting a 5-star experience, I do think they could have been friendlier.
