We waited a while to be noticed at the hostess desk, then we got seated by a family with screaming children. Our waitress brought us dirty appetizer plates. We got the Korean dumplings which were very good with Asian zing sauce on them. We also got their nachos which were soggy towards the bottom but had good flavor with bbq sauce and pulled pork. Now they don't offer pulled pork sandwiches but have pull pork on the nachos. My fish and chips were soooooo salty! The tartar sauce was good and French fries. The breading was also soggy but the fish was very tender and nice. The chicken cheesesteaks were good, filling and yummy. The Ale Burger is a double smash burger with good flavor, and a good meal. The Buffalo Mac and cheese was spicy but enjoyable. The service wasssss slow and not very attentive. The manager had to come over and ask if we needed anything bc our server seemed to disappear. Really enjoyed a lunch with my family at Ale Mary's after spending a few hours at Steamtown. I found parking right up front on the street (lucky, plus the meters were off for the weekend according to staff). The service was slow, but once we were greeted our drinks and food came out quickly. The inside is spacious, it's in an old building dating back to the mid to late 1800's. The high ceilings and metal work inside gives an old industrial feel. The menu had a lot of tasty choices and the beer menu was fantastic. The list of the handhelds/sandwiches is too long to list, but I could have ordered any of them. They have over 100 small and large craft/international beers in bottles or cans and around 20 taps. I had a couple cans of delicious Russian River/WeldWerks collab Convivial which is a hazy imperial IPA. My wife really enjoyed their Buffalo Chicken Flatbread 13.95 - popcorn chicken, house wing sauce, cooper cheese, blue cheese, scallions. It was more than a serving, sizable and fresh. The flavors were balanced and outstanding. I had the Bison Cheesesteak 16.95 - Chipotle bison, pepperjack, bacon chutney, mushrooms, chipotle aioli, toasted hoagie roll. The flavors were balanced, roll was fresh, the serving was large and it was pretty darn good. The meat had a hot dog/pork pate taste. My 5 year old son ordered grilled chicken street tacos 13.95 - Pico de gallo, jalapeno sour cream, queso. Choice of grilled chicken or beef. It came with three and he ate half. We all had a bite and agreed they were fresh, easy to handle and had a delicious mix of flavors, especially the chicken and cheese. My other son had the House Grilled Cheese 9.95 - Boursin, pepperjack, & cooper cheeses on grilled brioche. He enjoyed it, but said it was a little spicy. Although they lacked a "kids menu" my guys found something they enjoyed. The inside was family friendly and they were treated well by the staff. This was around my sixth or seventh visit to Ale Mary's since moving to Scranton in Sept or 2024. I watched the Mets beat the Phillies here. Watched the Giants lose a bunch and even came here for the Super Bowl. We won't be back. It's a shame but it seems like the new management company is cutting corners. Nothing we had was good. The ahi tuna was chunks of tuna, well done, and thrown into a bowl with some red cabbage and a few chips. (I'll bet $20 it was a frozen box dish from a grocery store - bc that's what it tasted like). The fish (with the fish and chips) was an over salted disappointment. I could only eat one of the three pieces. Maybe the malt vinegar I asked for twice and never got would have helped? The Mac and Cheese was a gooey mess with no flavor and the Greek salad was not a Greek salad. Service was just as bad. Sad because this use to be a good go to. If you were once a fan, as I was, give it a try, but I don't recommend it. There are way too many other places in Downtown Scranton. Hard pass! read more

Been coming here for years, especially when good games are on.. Probably ordered the pulled pork nachos 20 times. They used to be incredible. This last time it was way different... they changed the chips which were heavier corn chips and not as good as the light crispy tortilla chips they used to use. Also, they recently added corn and way less bbq sauce. Not the same so prob won't order again =( read more

Did this place change ownership in the last two years? Both of our meals were not good, fries weren't fresh and the server seemed inconvenienced by having to wait on us. The wait for food was so long and it was not even packed in there. The waitress accidentally spilled cocktails inside of my purse, not her fault bc someone bumped her, but a few minutes later the host walks by, scoffs at the ice in the ground, kicked it towards our table and gave ME a dirty look.. as if I purposely spilled two drinks inside my $500 purse.so thrilled the manager was able to extend 20% off our bill for the inconvenience -__- BTW never bothered to come to the table themselves.. We came here to take advantage of their 1/2 price wing night. You can't go wrong for an order of wings at $6.50!! The buffalo wings, although very tasty became a little too spicy for our liking. The chefs were very liberal with the sauce and it definitely burned over time. The salmon burger was fine and to be fair, I ordered the balsamic glaze and cheese on the side but I wouldn't consider it a burger. It was a salmon fillet in a brioche bun. The side of fries were a nice portion and quite good. We ordered the Rob's old fashioned manhattans to start which were well balanced with a nice cherry flavor. This pains me as it used to be my favorite bar. Unfortunately nothing but poor decisions have been made with the food menu. Ive had a lot of wings before but the ones here are probably some of the best I've had. Tried the old bay dry rub and the hot honey garlic sauced. Both delicious and loved that the wings were not too jumbo and meaty or greasy. Excellent draft list and even more extensive can list. They also have a mystery beer in a brown paper bag for $4 - we ended up with a decent lager - worth more than $4 for sure. They also offer some house made cocktails that were delicious. Loved finding this fun spot in the city! I was in town for business abs was looking for a sports bar in the area who had NBA TV and couldn't find one. Happy to find out when I arrived they had it! The place has a cool, hang out type of vibe. Sat at the bar and after struggling with what to choose, because everything sounded so good, I got the Born on the Bayou, which is a canjun chicken sandwich with peppers, onions abs cheese, with their Cajun fries. OMG this sandwich was amazing!! I also had their Maple Old Fashioned. Again, so good! The bartender was great and the other workers who hung out by me as the night wound down, were fun to chat with. We've been here a couple of times and each time we have left satisfied and eager to come back for more. While we've tried a variety of things- such as their tacos, chopped cheese, their bison Philly cheesesteak - our eye continues to be on their house fries. These are probably some of the best fries you'll ever have in the Scranton area. Each bite gives you the perfect combination of crunch on the outside but softness on the inside, which (let's be honest now) is the best way to cook fries (fine. We can agree to disagree). They're seasoned perfectly and the sriracha sauce is the icing on top (literally). While the fries may be the star of our experience, you can't sleep on their amazing tacos and chopped cheese. Now, we're from NYC, the city of perfectly cooked chopped cheese sold in every corner deli, so naturally we were a little skeptical that it wouldn't be as great BUT we couldn't have been more wrong. Personally I think what made their chopped cheese stand out was their use of jalapeños which added a really nice kick to it. We're also big fans of the surf & turf tacos, which in our opinion, are the best tacos to get from here. They're filling, delicious and unique. In terms of ambiance, this is a great after work place to relax and enjoy sports and drinks with friends. Overall, we highly recommend this place for anyone who is looking for a chill bar experience and amazing food at a fair price. read more

Average environment when you walk in. It's a pretty open space but nothing special but nothing that turns you away at first either, other than being pretty dark. They even have a jukebox if you're feeling Funky. The service was a tad below average here, our drinks were messed up. The bar needed a few pretty common drinks explained to them like manhattans and French 75s. The menu listed Basil Hayden as well, even as a direct ingredient in the featured cocktail but they said they don't carry it so from the beginning there was some confusion. The menu is fun and creative though. They have build your own Mac-n-cheese and tons of good bar options. We got two types of loaded fries for our group of 4 and they were decent portions with Big flavor! I wouldn't dock them on food at all, it's the drinks that marred our experience. When bourbon drinks were coming out tasting watery and fruity, we knew something was off. They're running a Ukraine cocktail special to help with proceeds as well if you're into community service through your drinks. My medium burger came out very well done, the fries that used to be awesome here were undercooked and limp. The service was terrible, the server had a nasty attitude and was extremely inattentive to the point that I had to track her down twice to order drinks and ask for water. She only became moderately personable after she dumped an entire drink into my girlfriends purse as she walked by and that was probably because she thought she was at risk of losing her tip. This place used to always be busy but there was no wait and some empty tables on this Sat night around 630. That tells me I'm not the only one that noticed how far it's slipped. read more

LOVE this place! This is a solid, go-to spot in downtown Scranton. The facility is spacious, clean, and inviting. There's plenty of room and the bar and usually there is tables available too. It's great for a pleasant and fun night out. By comparison, every other bar in town is crowded and loud. Ale Mary's is a gem of a bar for adults surrounded by trashy college-town bars. When my friends and I go out. I refuse to go anywhere but here. This place also has a space in my heart because I took my girlfriend of two years here on our first date. I played her favorite song on the jukebox, we had delicious drinks, and we were able to have conversation without being bothered by idiots. It was fantastic all around. Swamped with work, I ordered two flatbread pizzas for my daughter and I. I was ready to be underwhelmed, but SURPRISE!!!! I didn't have time to take a picture after biting into the first section. My taste buds were in shock and I was licking my fingers. I've decided Ale Mary's flatbread will be a definite go-to order whenever I visit Scranton! Was out of town and wanted to walk to a nearby local restaurant. Saw this restaurant on Yelp, and between the menu, pics of food, and proximity to the Hilton hotel, I decided to trek over. After a ten minute summer walk, I was sat immediately and loved the use of an building which was like an old stable-house. After choosing my beverage from an enormous beer list, I decided to try the pretzels and also got a braised short rib French dip. I then had to choose house fries, sweet potato or old bay- went with the old bay seasoning. My drink and pretzels came quickly and the pretzels were amazing with an "everything bagel" topping and an aged Gouda and cheddar cheese dip....wow! As I was packing it in, my sandwich came which was almost too much food. It came with two long halves and one would have sufficed. It had provolone, Swiss and a horseradish aioli. Of, and au jus of course! I was so full I barely ate the fries and boxed the other half. Overall, great good, amazing and creative menu, and excellent staff.
