Delicious and authentic Greek dishes. Lovely tzatziki. Great service, thanks Rachael!

Grilled Octopus, lunch platter, and their amazing Sangria

Every single time we pass through Plattsburgh we make it a point to come here! We love the great food, sit outside, sangrias, octopus, gyro...you name it, we love it every time. Wish we had you in our town!!

This is $41 at Alekas. To be fair , the 2 pitas and 2 Tzatziki sauce cups are not pictured. No lettuce, no tomatoes, no onions which used to be included. the Tzatziki sauce was more like runny sour cream with garlic and no cucumber. The waitstaff was rude even though I left a larger than required tip for takeout to support them. Won't be doing that again. Alekas used to be a real good restaurant with really good food. I'm suspecting new management or owner? Maybe Bidenomics ? Either way I would have gotten a better gyro platter and way cheaper at any county fair and without the waitstaff's attitude. Not sure what happened inside but it was dark , in disarray and uninviting. I've been eating here with my coworkers for over 10 years. Disappointed, yeah. Will I recommend them, no. Will I go back, probably not. It's really sad after reading other reviews to see a Plattsburgh food staple fall from grace. (10 days and no response from owner says all you need to know)

Apple pie Sangria. It sounds it would be sweet but was not. Very good!

This place was hopping busy. We had spanakopita pie, fried calamari, & cheese pizza & added gyro meat. The pizza was amazing. The calamari was a little tough and chewy. The service was great in spite of how busy it was. Come & Enjoy!

    Greek fries!!! Delicious

We had delicious food. Our service was wonderful. We had a really great lunch today. Even the desserts were fantastic. The hummus really was splendid. Our favorite part was the Greek fries.

The food was delicious, could have been 5 stars, but the food came very slow! Just for the 4 of us we had to wait almost for half an hour after we ordered our food, for that I subtracted a star.

Wow. Not much is open on a Wednesday afternoon in Plattsburgh. Alenka's is and the food is great. Recommend the falafel sandwich.

Everybody I interacted with - greeter, waiter, food runners, etc. - were friendly, neat, and professional, which along with the great food made a memorable dining experience. I had no trouble making a 6:00 Saturday reservation earlier that day but it did fill up while I was there so it was probably needed. Though there were some seats that remained open at the bar, so walk-ins might be accommodated there. It was a nice bar, with a very pretty stained glass table lamp on the counter and a very cool-looking bartender adding flair to the otherwise conservatively-attired staff. The menu is extensive and very Turkish. Even the wine list: every wine that I checked was Turkish. I know nothing about Turkish wine but the one I did try (many available by the glass) was enjoyable. I tried a cocktail too; a Turkish Cosmo, made with a Turkish pomegranate syrup. This was good too, tangy and not too sweet. For beers they offer ones from Turkey, Vermont, Mexico, and Connecticut. I was happy not to see any major American brands offered. I don't usually comment on prices, but they seemed slightly on the low side here, for everything: drinks, appetizers, entrees, and desserts. I am not complaining! I started with the Cold Meze Platter appetizer, recommended for 2. (Too much for 1 so I took some home.) Hummus, Baba Ganoush, Turkish Salsa, Hadari, and Stuffed Grape Leaves. Everything was very good, and the fresh-baked still-warm hadari bread it was served with was perfect with it. The Baba Ganoush was exceptional, chunky in texture and smoky in flavor. From the very extensive entree section I chose the Surf and Turf: skewers of swordfish and lamb, the latter cooked to order (it came out a perfect medium-rare as requested). The skewers, which also had green pepper and onions, was served with rice, bulghur, grilled tomato, a lemon wedge, and a salad of cabbage and pickled onions. Both the swordfish and lamb were marinated and had lots of flavor. The sides were good too. The portion size was generous and I didn't quite finish it, taking the rest of it home along with some of the appetizer. After finishing my entree and my wine, and taking in the ambience of this relaxing, blue-walled space, it was time for dessert. Among the 8 choices (a refreshingly large number) were 3 kinds of baklava. I went with the Fistikli Çikolata (chocolate, pistachio, and hazelnut) If, like me your experience with baklava has mostly been the junk found on the counter of numerous pizza houses (stale, dry, and overly sweet) this is nothing like that and will change your opinion. The three pieces made a fairly large portion but it was so good there was no question of leaving any behind. This was also offered with Turkish ice cream but I didn't get it that way. Many more things to try here. I hope to return soon.

Dips were delicious and even got an extra pita for them, chicken skewers were so juicy. Even the…read morestuffed grape leaves were just so good and everything felt homemade and a slightly different take from typical. Service was so warm too, would definitely come again!

The Long Version: My husband and I were chilling in our hotel when my husband had a hankering for some shawarma. He didn't want to go too far, and I encouraged him to try a new-to-us place, lol. So a quick search led him to Shawarmaz. Shawarmaz is a Canadian company that started 2013 in Montreal. It has several locations but they are all in the Greater Montreal Area. My husband got the beef shawarma in a pita $9.79. They have the option of getting your shawarma in Saj bread or a baguette and those options are more expensive. He got lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, turnips and onions. For his sauces he got hummus, spicy garlic and chipotle. He enjoyed the shawarma. I had a bite so I could review it (I also went with him so I could see the restaurant and take pictures) haha. I thought it was pretty good. They give you a decent amount of protein. And the beef was flavourful and not gristly. I was surprised that the wrap was not too spicy considering the sauces he chose. The decor is fast food restaurant-like. Service was good but it did take a while for the food, although it's likely because there was a pretty long line up. Review #205 (2025)

The oil was infused with lots of crushed garlic, which left the oil itself so fragrant and tasting of garlic. Perfection. I ordered a Greek Salad with some grilled chicken added. My husband ordered a Caesar salad and their Margherita pizza. The Greek salad was magnificent... beautiful presentation, huge salad and lots of wonderful ingredients (mixed greens, marinated artichoke hearts, chickpeas, red onion, Greek olives, feta cheese and roasted red peppers), all of which I love. I always get it with Caesar dressing, just my preference, and I'm always glad I do. Their Caesar dressing was particularly delicious to add to the enjoyment of the salad. What was even a greater surprise was how much I LOVED my husband's pizza. He always offers me a slice, and I usually take one bite and say thank you. This pizza was so freaking good, I ate the entire slice. It was amazing. I think it was the pizza sauce because that pizza style usually is boring to me. This was AMAZING. Another restaurant I'm sad I don't live near. It'd be a really long car ride to get here from where I live, but if YOU are in the area, make sure you give them a try. So worth your time and money.

We enjoyed the mussels gauzzetto and calamari fritti. The Mediterranean chicken was well prepared and tasty. The pasta special was spinach feta almond slices in a light tomato sauce and I substituted penne for fettucine - I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. The margherita pizza was good. We suspect you need reservations for prime dining hours on a weekend. The decor feels a little dated but the food is great. We can forgive the $2 for a quarter loaf of bread because it's only a few dollars and the bread was fresh and served with garlic oil, not like overpriced $10-$12 Parker House Rolls, but it's not a good trend to charge for bread. Service was good until we wanted to pay our bill - that took a little bit. We'll happily return.
