Family owned, beautiful set up and even better food! Wouldn't recommend any other shawarma spot in Calgary!

We were originally going to another brunch spot but they were way too busy so we looked up more…read moreoptions on Yelp and came across Porch. We saw they were going to open at 11am, and decided to try our luck by getting there right at opening since we didn't have a reservation. We got lucky and got seated right away! - PARKING - Street parking, make sure you take note of how long you paid for! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - The ambiance inside is so nice and airy, with greenery and natural light shining through. There's also a super cute swing area next to the bar area that you can sit. I really liked the overall interior design! The staff was very attentive for our large party throughout our meal. There are bathrooms downstairs as well. - FOOD - Bacon Jam Benedict ($20.00): Loved the flavor combination in this! The sweet savory maple bacon jam worked so well! We upgraded to the fried potatoes ($4.00) and they were pretty tasty. Carrot Cake French Toast ($24.00): We got one to share with the table, and I'm glad we didn't commit because it was just OK to me. I wish there was more mascarpone filling, and also a different sauce than chocolate because it didn't pair well for me. Winter Nights ($19.00): We wanted to get some greens in and chose this salad. I enjoyed the mix of greens and also the fennel salami which gave a salty bite! Truffle Parm Fries ($13.00): We also got this to share with the table and you can't go wrong with these! - OVERALL - Great brunch option if you have a small or large group! Really nice airy ambiance for a nice start to your day.

As the morning went on, it seemed to fill up fast so I recommend making a reservation. Vibes: Bright, airy space decorated with lots of plants. There were many tables available including 4 swing seats by the bar. Very cute inside! Bathrooms are downstairs. Street parking only. Service: For a party of 12, our servers provided great and quick service. Food: -Cold Brew ($6) with Sweet Cream ($1): it seemed that the cream curdled in the drink. The taste was okay but it got the job done. -Breakfast Bowl ($24): braised beef short rib with 2 poached eggs on a bed of caramelized onion fried potatoes. Large serving, it was perfect to share with 2-3 people. -Kale Caesar ($19): topped with cheese croutons which were interesting. Also great to share with 2 people. Overall: Porch is a cute brunch place that can fit a large party. If you're looking for an aesthetic place, I recommend this place!

So many 5 stars???? So decided to come here and give it a try. To my surprise, there was hardly…read moreanyone inside. They are so dead. My colleague and I walked in and we both order the same thing - Chicken Sharwarma. Their prices are more expensive compared to their competitor and the portion is a lot small as well. I don't know what's with the high rating or maybe they just went downhill all of a sudden. The chicken sharwarma: I like how the pita bread is crunchy. The meat isn't seasoned very well. I mean I had chicken sharwarma where it would really stand out. Not much strong flavor in it. I do like the fact that they are generous in sauce. I mean I am a sauce person. The portion size is smaller compared to their competitor for the price paying. Also the chicken sharwarma is very messy to eat. It drips from either end. What's really disgusting is the hair found in my colleagues chicken sharwarma. That was nasty. Well its good that they replaced his half chicken sharwarma and she did try to explain and did apologized. We came in at noon and left at 12:30. Inside the whole restaurant there was only us and another table. I don't know how they can stay in business longer if they are getting this kind of business everyday. I have walked by couple times and they were not busy.

The food was amazing. Some of the best Mediterranean food I've had. And I've been to various…read morecountries in the Mediterranean region many times. I highly recommend it!

It's like I inhaled a piece of Bubblicious Watermelon. Yep, inhaled-it was in smoke form... with no…read moretobacco. That works just fine for me, I'm not sure I could've had much more than a puff or two of it otherwise. It was my first sheesha experience. I was also the first one there. Cafe Med was busy and I was too afraid to go in by myself. Thank the good Yelp gods for Sarah Louise! She saved me from looking like a creep peeking in the windows for too long. The folks at Cafe Med are friendly people. Our server talked us into some Moroccan Madness (tea) while we waited for the rest of our peeps to arrive. We also snacked on some red pepper hummus and rolled up grape vine leaves (if you've never had them, they're comparable to cabbage rolls in concept... just a different flavour to them). You might also want to try the garlic pizza. As far as sheesha bars go, I have nothing else to compare this one to! So it's got three stars in my books. Mostly because the guy serving our table offered to fill our tea pots up with more hot water, took the pots away and didn't return with them until we inquired about them again. And also because, even though it's a spot to come smoke things, there were times the haze built up enough to burn my eyes for a moment or two. At any rate, the food was pretty cheap, the pipes were just over $10 each and they kept bringing new coals around. From what I gathered, not dropping ashes into the pipe is a bit of an art that Cafe Med has mastered. Overall, a positive experience!
