It's usually not packed with the course layout so it flows pretty nicely, that helps with the disc traffic as well. It offers everything from open spaces to thickets of trees. :-) Around hole 1 is a public park, pond (open for catch and release fishing), waterpark, baseball field, and often you'll see someone having a photoshoot with the beautiful surroundings. So watch out for goobers walking across your path when throwing your disc...but other than that you're great! I definitely recommend at least trying this course once...you'll be hooked...chiggers or not...rofl!

First off, we should discuss location, location, location! I am a 75074 based pet sitter and this park is very close to my home base. The Plano Parks & Recreation lists the following address for Shawnee Park: 3380 Sherwood Drive, Plano, Tx 75074. So I don't where the info disconnect on whether it is a 75023 or a 75074 park but I do know it is a great community park. This neighborhood park has it all, including the following: disc golf course, hike bike and dog walking trails, playground, sports practice fields (first come, first served), restrooms, grills, picnic tables, sand volley ball court, and a small lake with a fishing pier. The pavilion holds a maximum of 50 people (no limit on the number of dogs and pets that I am aware of) and can be your rental as follows: resident rental rate $50, non-resident rental rate $100, $75 deposit requirement and other fees may apply. Amusements/sound allowed. This is a excellent park for walking, playing and exercising your fur babies. If you and your dog/dogs haven't had a chance to spend any time together then you need to correct that over-sight real soon.

There were about three other groups spread across the 18 baskets, so no crowd issues to deal with. The course appears to have been laid out originally as 9 holes, and then they added 9 more pretty much on top of the original 9 (you end up making a circular circuit twice). It's a little confusing at first figuring out which basket you are targeting, and where the next tee-off pad is, but everything is pretty well marked (although we never did find the basket for #17). For the most part, the holes are pretty wide open. Several are straight approaches across open field. A few do take you a little ways into the woods though. I'd call this an intermediate course, but a beginner would find it fun as its not too technical. The only advanced part is a couple of the distances and some curve approaches. There are a couple of ravines to watch out for, otherwise, pretty minimal chance of losing your disc as the trees and shrubbery aren't real thick. I'll definitely play this one again.

Watch out for snakes, even though most hazards will still allow you to retrieve your disc. A good course to play safe on, with several holes to let loose and throw longer, long distance shots. The current layout is mostly alt/pro tees, which does require 2-3 500ft par 3's. Even with that, it's still one of my favorite courses in the area. WATCH the wind! Good wind here makes things fun, but bad winds here can lead to 45 min long disc-search detours. Finishing even or just over par here is s good score here.

Looks like they are trying to make the fenced section on hole 4 safer as there use to be a fence with a sign that said Danger...the cliff was falling out from under the fence down a steep hill into the creek. I'd say 1/2 of the course has shade. There are 300-400+ ft drives at some holes...some are techical, it's a good course all around. I got into some burrs yesterday that ruined my socks. No way I was gonna pull all of them suckers outta them.

The…read moretrail then converts to gravel - various quality of well packed gravel, bigger rocks and grass overgrown dirt trail. All definitely run and bike-able. I highly recommend this for a weekend getaway from the DFW metro. No water fountains, but there are occasional benches and trash cans when you're in a town segment. This is part of the hopefully completed someday Northeast Texas Trail, which is 130-miles long.

I told her I was in site 15 for 2 days then moving over to site 13 for ten days. She said give me a few minutes I will call the guy in site 13, because she thought he had left early. I had to unload my tow car anyway, so I said great. She called me a few minutes later saying guy had left & I could just park in 13 for the duration. This saved me having to unhook & move RV. THAT IS great customer service!! Now the park. The sites are spacious, deep & wide. Easy to back into. Great areas to walk your dogs. Showers need a little TLC, but I checked all 3 that were open (1 was being repaired). One had a good shower I I took an early shower after setting up. The fields around the park are well maintained. Road getting to park (maintained by city was a little rough). No street sign at turn off, due to construction on road. Price to stay here is fantastic. Close to Dallas area & many other cities. I highly recommend this place.

I wish the money that was put into the park would be used to remodel the entire bathroom and showerfrom scratch and make it modern. It's so unfortunate that the leaders are supposed to upkeep public spaces are abusing the income of taxpayer money to benefit themselves. The gatekeepers nevertheless are very lovely people who greet customers. Therefore photos I have taken of the showers that I think needs to be addressed publicly and hopefully somebody will take action and fix the issue. Plus, there's no heater or fan in the bathroom that works. In the bathroom that doesn't have electricity doesn't have electricity and yet people still pay $14 a night for the entire system.

On the plus side, the restrooms (showers attached) were surprisingly clean. Our only problem was that the lots weren't meant for tents as there wasn't enough grass area. We had to pitch one tent on the driveway.
