I've been coming here almost every day for the past week, and honestly, I've been really impressed. My roommate has a family pass, so while the kids are having fun at the indoor pool and going down the waterslide (which they love because it has music and lights), I've been spending my time in the fitness center. One thing I really like is that the gym overlooks the pool, so if I ever wanted to work out while keeping an eye on the kids, I easily could. The gym itself is on the smaller side, but don't let that fool you. It has everything I've needed, the equipment is in great shape, and I've never had an issue finding an open machine. I've gone at different times of the day, and even when it's a little busier, I still don't have to wait long for equipment. I actually prefer this over the bigger gyms. It's a more relaxed environment, and I never feel intimidated or like I'm being judged. It's also kept really clean, there's always someone around if you have a question, and I appreciate the little things like the cubbies for your belongings and the scale to track your progress. They also offer a variety of fitness classes, and while I haven't taken one yet, I already have the schedule hanging on my refrigerator because I definitely plan to. Whether you're looking for a place to work out, take the kids swimming, or do both at the same time, this is a great spot. I'm really glad I found it. read more

My 2nd time here with my grandkids and daughter n law. My younger sons first time here. This place is amazing and the staff up front was very kind and helpful. We paid $5 per person to swim inside. The huge hot tub area is my favorite but with young kids with us I wasn't able to enjoy it more than 5 minutes. The little lazy river is fun and the toddler area with the slides is also very fun. The changing rooms are nice and clean and have a family one which made it easier for use ladies to change with our young male kids. They have this drying machine in there that is out of this world!! I've never seen one of these before and I recommend any community pool business to get one. After changing you can add your wet swimsuit in it, close the lid and hold it down for 8 seconds and it spins all the water out. read more

This is the best city facility I think I've ever been in. Usually they're small and kind of junky. This one has good equipment, it's roomy, it has free weights and resistance equipment, and an Olympic size pool, everything you need to get in shape, and it's almost always empty. The Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium is a great place to take kids. This facility offers swimming lessons (group/private), aquatic fitness classes, gym, yoga classes, hot tub, rooms for private parties, rock climbing and so on. Hours of operation are Mon-Thurs, 5am- 9pm, Friday, 5am-8pm, Saturday, 8am-6 pm and Sunday, 1-6pm. I take my son here for swimming lessons during Summer break. He loves being in the water so the 30 min lessons aren't long enough for him :) Therefore, we occasionally go on the weekends as well. Their Trances feed are $4 for youth/2 yrs and under free/$5 for adults/$3 for seniors . I personally like that the pool is indoors because we all know how the Texas heat can be a bit too much at times. Their instructors are good at what they do and the swimming lessons are very affordable especially if you plan on enrolling your child for several set of lessons. On the contrary, the front desk and the pool supervisors are lacking in courtesy and consistency both of which I appreciate about any business or facility. So hopefully the management works on improving in the near future. As far as cleanliness goes, it's a public pool so it wouldn't be fair to expect squeaky clean conditions. We came here for a swimming birthday party. The front receptionists weren't really helpful and it seemed like they didn't know what was going on. The party room was not ready at the time that was promised and they really didn't seem to care that we would be rushed to set it up. On a different note the pool was clean and the life guards were very attentive. My son loved the lazy river. The water was a bit cooler than my son would like it to have been. When he got out his lips were blue and his teeth were chattering. Despite all that it ended up being a fun birthday for the birthday boy. read more

This is a wonderful place for a family. When my grandson was young we went often. Clean, fun and welcoming. Wish every community had one.

For me, the Natatorium was a place where I worked out over the summer, with the occasional swim. This may sound rather backwards, as the swimming area is huge and the fitness center is rather small, but that's how it was. The fitness center, while small, had everything I needed to work out, including the machines, free weights, bench press, squat rack, and mirror (gotta check yourself out of course) so no complaints there. The pool includes lanes, diving board, lazy river, and kids area with a water slide and playground. The pool itself is great, whether you're trying to swim rigorously in the lanes or relax in the lazy river. There's also a rock climbing wall near the entrance. My biggest complaint is probably the pool hours, as they often open late and close early because of swimming lessons, but it was never a big problem for me because I mainly used the fitness center, which was open as long as the building was open. Overall, it's a nice facility and getting a membership is pretty cheap. read more

Summer swimming sessions here. Teacher to student ratio is about 1 to 6. Facility is clean and public swim area only opens in the afternoon. One less star because of the strong chlorine smell. After showering, you can still smell that on your skin. Overall, this is way better facility than the one we tried at the Oak Point Center in Plano. read more

My daughter attended a birthday party here. We were told at the front desk that since she was under the age of 7, that an adult would have to be in the water with her and watching her. I didn't know that and didn't plan on doing that (had no bathing suit), so I had to go find an adult at the birthday party so they could "watch her and be responsible for her." We found someone, and it worked out fine, but it made the afternoon pretty hectic. The lifeguards are very attentive and ask patrons to follow rules. This is the place for a kids party. Hell...I may have MY next birthday there. Too bad you can't take in an innertube cooler full of beer. I'd be all over that one. Huge swimming area including a sprinkler playscape, lazy river with spiny circular area, swimming pool and thee story circular slide. AND there's a slightly elevated hot tub so parents can chill and still see the kiddos. Add to this the rock climbing area out front, party rooms for rent, competition pool, diving pool, and work out equipment upstairs and you've got the makings for a great natatorium. If I lived in Allen I'd be tempted to become a member. But you do not have to be a member to load up the youngin's and come swimming. $5 for adults and $4 for most kids. And get this, there's a machine in the locker room that dries your towel and swimsuit. I'd add a star if they had a swim up bar! read more

I have had memberships at several of the local places. While Rodenbaugh's, was less expensive, it doesn't really offer all the amenities as advertised. I wanted a place with a pool! So every time I go there, the swim lanes are nearly always occupied by the Allen Swim Team. The other pool, has SO much chlorine in it, to counter act the Kiddy Piss and Diaper Droppings, that you could go in with a severe cold and come out sterilized. Ya, read other reviews! My kiddos loved this place! And truth be told, so did I! A lazy river that moved you along in a somewhat fast pace. Splash zones, water slides and a pool to swim in. Not to mention a hot tub that feels so good that you forget that kids are laughing and splashing all around. Perfect for a climate controlled experience in a smaller pool environment - one slide/play apparatus for little kids (and the life guards are great about shooing the big ones off it!), and big slide for the big kids/adults, a lazy river that encloses a bench pool and an Olympic size practice pool with diving board and lap lanes on a separated (sometimes enclosed) side. Good locker rooms, decent parking, and the best option for McKinney folks who are now beyond Old Settler's (great for the under 5 set) but still too little/timid for the water parks. The facility is amazing. A huge indoor multi-pool space with a "lazy river" that runs a little too fast and is a little too crowded. I wish Plano was running this place. It would be perfect. I swim laps at oak point all the time and coming from that facility, the natatorium is embarrassing. They don't have enough life guards on duty. The ones that are there look absolutely miserable. They just pace around and blow their whistle pretty much constantly at kids in the lazy river. Several sections of pool has no lifeguards watching it. Another negative is the muggy air quality and the fact they have no bathrooms connected to the pool area. The bathrooms are in the changing rooms behind doors that require you to dry off completely before entering. Like, no. Have separate wet and dry changing rooms and bathrooms. read more

Overcrowded overrated swimming pool. The parents are supposed to watch after their children, but they don't do that. Lifeguards are children aged 14??? They are scared to say something to unbehaved people and children. Something was very wrong with the water. I went there with my family and we all had pain in the eyes after swimming there. Not clean enough? Oh and most of the visitors were wearing normal clothes (shorts and shirts) while swimming and no bathing suits. Disgusting! Never ever. Way too expensive for what you get! I had a Birthday Party planned for this pool location Almost a month in advance. The day of the party I received a call from someone saying" There has been an incident at the pool and we are canceling your party. Let us know you received this message". That call came at 11 on Saturday when my party was at 3PM. NO APOLOGY even to date I have yet to receive an apology. They told my husband that they would issue a refund but they could do nothing. Then on Monday I received another call that they received my message on Saturday at 11 wanting an explaination - which I never got one - and said I had a credit on my account did I want to reschedule or did I want a refund to my card. UNPROFESSIONAL!!!! I will NEVER go to this pool! And be sure I will tell anyone I know to tell all their friends, careful if you go here for party, they are unaccomendating. read more

I have worked there for 4 years, but I'll do my best to be as unbiased as possible. The indoor, heated pool is obviously the big draw but most my experience is with the non-pool areas so I'll focus on that first. There is a small but well equiped gym upstairs. Includes 8 treadmills, 8 ellipticals, 8 bikes and 3 stair machines plus a separate free weight area. The cardio equipment overlooks the kids pool. Everything is about 3 years old and kept in clean working order. The main downside to the gym is that group fitness classes are not included in the membership. Membership ranges between $11 and $25 a month depending on your age (seniors get discounts) and if you are a resident of Allen. Membership includes unlimted access to other facilities including Joe Farmer rec center (basketball & racquetball & indoor walking track) and the ford public pool They are up front with their prices. My favorite part is their are no salesmen to deal with. Downstairs, they have a rock climbing wall, lockers (bring your own lock) and showers. Most people that visit the Natatorium go for a kids birthday party. Apparently that's a good deal. You rent a room for a few hours and swim around. If you are just going to take the kids to swim, MAKE SURE you call about the hours of the kids/leisure pool. The hours change during summer and they are different than the facility hours. There is a lap pool, kid/leisure area and lazy river. Everything stays heated. Sometimes the swim team will be using the lap pool so you'll want to time your swims around that. Overall, I recommend the Natatorium for the indoor pool, birthday parties and if you want a basic gym at a low price. read more

Not much for adults and older kids to do here but swim laps. There is a diving bored at limited times but no one is allowed to do anything but front dives and front flips. And since staff does not allow diving focrum to be moved it is not a good place to practice diving. This place needs a high dive and better management. The city allows both kids and adults to do flips at the Hydrous water park and skate park. But the management does not allow divers to practice there skills at the Allen Natatorium. I am tiered of driving myself and my kids out of the city for diving. Allen needs a better pool or better management here. I took my daughter here for a birthday party and was absolutely disgusted, which was so sad since I grew up in Allen and haven't been to this facility in over a decade. This place must be managed by either someone who has zero pride in what they do for a living or someone who is just oblivious - either way, it's clearly a management issue. The manager obviously doesn't walk the facility daily, let alone multiple times each day. The dectron (dehumidifier) unit is either broken or performing very poorly because the glass windows throughout the entire indoor pool area are completely fogged and the intake vents along the ceiling are rusted. It's not removing the moisture from the air. Don't even think about removing your shoes indoors because there is green algae growing in the cracks in the concrete walkway surrounding the pool and on large portions of the walkway itself, especially near the slides. Anything metal is rusting and leaving trails of rust stain, including the play equipment kids are crawling all over and benches, etc. The walkway hasn't been power washed in who knows how long and there's all sorts of black discoloration in addition to the rust and algae. There are places where algae is also growing inside the pool area near the lazy river and play equipment. There is nasty black stuff in the grout lines in several areas along the lazy river, which had debris floating in it. I grabbed a piece of debris that was on my leg and it looked like plastic from a maxi pad. Sick. I went to the family changing room with my daughter and was so grossed out. There was so much hair all over the floor and the tile looks about 20 years old. There's a drain on the floor in the women's restroom just caked in grit and grime - looks like it has never been cleaned or replaced and people are running around barefoot throughout this whole facility! And this is the stuff you can see - what about the things you can't!? I can't even think about it. I'm certain those chemical levels are way off and their UV machine has probably been broken for years with the way everything else looks. Algae grows when chemical levels aren't balanced and when the humidity isn't removed from the air (ie the broken dectron unit). The City of Allen brings in plenty of tax dollars and would fix these issues if they knew about them - at least I hope they would. What's even more crazy is that a sponsor is Texas Health Resources and there was a large banner above the doors that said 'you're here for your health' or something along those lines. If only they knew how unsanitary and unhealthy this place is - I'm sure they'd pull their sponsorship. Stagnant humid air causes lung issues, by the way. Come on City of Allen!! read more

Nice little place that has an area just for kids. Went to the Natatorium on Saturday for a few hours. The kiddo really liked this place he was running around. My wife is a member and I am not so I had to pay $5 to use the pool which isn't bad for the service they provide. I had enrolled my son for swimming there. He learn't nothing. Every few weeks a new class starts and they re-evaluate and start from the beginning. There is no progress tracking and no progress. Water is also very high in chlorine content. If by mistake you put your eyes in water, it'll start itching and burning. The facilities are nice, but we had a bad experience when my son and grandkids were visiting last week. First of all the chlorine smell is overwhelming. All of us had to go outside to get a breath of fresh air. Our eyes burned the rest of the day and my husband said that his lungs hurt. I understand the need for chlorine, but there needs to be better ventilation in the pool area. Also, some kid pooped in the pool and there was a panic to get everyone out and the pool was closed for about 40 minutes. The staff refused to give us our money back since they said the pool was going to reopen. We left and the kids were dissapointed. We bought a years' membership, but now my husband says he's not going back due to the chlorine fumes. Again, there needs to be better ventilation. read more

The teenage lifeguards are very rude, the pool was freezing and they have a spa that was warm but children under 16 are not allowed in it to even warm up my sons lips turned blue. My son was holding on to a wall to catch his breath for a second and the teenage lifeguard blew her whistle and told him he was not allowed to do that. This place is terrible. In addition to being extremely over-chlorinated and poorly ventilated, the management and staff are horrible. My daughter is tiny for her age - barely 22 pounds and very short. She is very adventurous and wants to try to swim like her big brother. I spent hours scouring the internet and local stores for something for her to wear in the water that would not restrict her movement the way a life jacket does. I found a swim vest with an inner tube insert. Functionally it is identical to a puddle jumper, which is for children 30-50 pounds. They would not let her wear it. They claimed it was not safe because it wasn't coast guard approved. Firstly "Coast guard approved" doesn't carry much meaning when you are talking about an indoor pool. There is nothing different about the functionality of her vest compared to a jumper. The manager basically lied to me and said they make puddle jumpers for kids 15 pounds and up, which is just completely untrue, and said that ours wasn't safe. Basically she just tried to say that our daughter was safer wearing absolutely nothing than wearing this swim vest, which is completely ridiculous. All she could do was lie to our faces and repeat a meaningless phrase about being "coast-guard approved." We will definitely be pursuing this matter further with both them and the city of Allen if necessary. read more
