I previously gave this doctor 2 stars because of her poor bedside manner and uncaring of patients. Now I feel that she deserve less because of her poor surgical skills. She did an ileostomy on my father about 2 years ago and that's when our nightmares began. (Please see the story of my previous review at the end) She told us my father's tumor was not removable and told us to follow-up with the oncologist to see if chemotherapy could shrink the tumor. At that time, we were foolish enough to believe in her and the Mount Sinai G.I. team, so my father did chemo for more than a year. During this period, not only his tumor did not turn smaller, but because of the ileostomy and the primary tumor was still there, my father was severely malnutrition, anemic, and had bowel obstruction several times. Eventually last December, the doctors at Mount Sinai told us that my father's disease has been worsen and there's nothing else they can do. I did not want to give up because there's no sign the disease has spread to other organs so we went to see Dr. Garcia-Aguilar of Memorial Sloan Kettering for a second opinion. Unlike Dr. Ky, Dr. Garcia is knowledgeable and has excellent work ethnics. He arrange all the necessary tests right away and is able to schedule the surgery in just 3 days. That's when we realize my father's tumor was not inoperable. It was only because Dr. Ky and Mount Sinai do not have the skills! Dr. Garcia was able to remove the whole tumor and unlike Dr. Ky, he personally explained the results to us right after the 6-hour surgery. He also comes to visit my father every day throughout his stay in the hospital. I am just sharing my own experience and don't want the other patients made the same mistakes as we did. What I want to point out is getting a different opinion and choosing the right doctor really makes a huge difference in our lives!
Previous review:
Dr. Ky is always busy with surgery. My personal experience shows that she concerns more about surgery than actually spend time with her patients. We have a very hard time to reach her to discuss about our concerns. She did a surgery on my father and she did not or send anyone from her team to inform our family about what she did and what she found. I believe it's the most important and basic manner. All the family members were worry as hell during the surgery and they just left us alone after the surgery. I believe that's unacceptable! She did an ileostemy on my father and he had been losing 2 to 3 pounds a day afterward. I asked her if there's any way to help, she simply said "Eat More!" while the main problem is my father cannot absorb any of the food that he eats. Even the E.R. doctor prescribes some medication that actually improve his condition while all she said was "Eat More". Unbelievable! What's more ridiculous is she did not even notice the surgery staples on my father's belly. She did not even know the purpose of the visit was to remove the staples. She does not know why a patient has to see her so I doubt if she ever cares reading patients' charts at all.
She said there's possible recurrence of my father's colon cancer during the surgery but she did not do any biopsy. She already opened up his belly but wasted the chance which we could analyze the cancer cells. Mount Sinai G.I. is totally corrupted! Just kicking balls around instead actually helping patients. I am totally upset with Dr. Ky and her team and I would not recommend her to others. read more
