Looking for a wedding photographer in NYC is a grueling process due to the amount of photographers (or wanna-be photographers) and the cost. I had met with about 5 photographers and while all of their works were impressive, I felt more like I was just another wedding in the calendar to them. Heather is really very personable. I felt like she was one of my girlfriends and she really understood how important this day is for the couple. She wanted to know about my fiance and I, our lives, our story. While most photographers book 2 weddings a week at least for a total of over 70 weddings a year, Heather only takes 22 weddings per year. This is because she wants to be able to focus on each wedding and producing a beautiful finished product to her customers. Heather also does fashion photography (check her blog) as well as family candid portrait photography. Her prices are not as high as other NYC photographers who charge over $4500 for the same amount of work. Her prices are within middle-ground NYC standards (my wedding in 2008 was $3000 for the wedding package, plus $400 for engagement photos, and $500 for a photobooth set up - YES, she set me up with her makeshift photoshoot for my guests to play with!! which usually if you rent a photobooth will cost you $2500).. After seeing her work and the caliber of photography that she did, we felt really lucky that she was even available on such short notice for our very small, intimate, and informal pandemic wedding. From the time we booked her, Priyanca was incredibly polite and forthcoming about her photography style, her philosophy, and her policies all while being very accommodating of our special requests and needs. She's incredibly professional and showed up on time and always returned our phone calls and emails. Her rates are very reasonable for the quality of work she does. She is very respectful, cultured and has experience photographing wedding ceremonies and receptions of all different faiths and cultures. She knows what she's doing especially when it comes to respecting cultural customs and it shows. We received our wedding photos (all edited and selected by her) not long after our wedding ceremony. They were absolutely stunning and she was able to get angles and points of view that we hadn't thought possible. Well, I ultimately chose Jenny not only because she has been a long time friend I could trust, but because of her passion and the quality of her work. I wanted my family and I to feel comfortable also. Our wedding was a small family backyard wedding in Texas. She endured the demands of my family for all the portraits while also trying to capture candid moments. I should mention that it was also outside in the sunny 90+ degree Texas weather. She made the best of the bright sun light, moving us around to get the best shots. My husband and I were pretty uncomfortable with the idea of having a day where all eyes were on us, and yet she made the whole experience so comfortable and helped us overcome our awkward fears. She was fantastic at giving subtle direction to capture just the right moment. She also helped navigate a rainy day in Central Park for the shoot, helping to hold umbrellas and working to avoid downpours to keep my hair and makeup decent (bless her!) After our engagement shoot, we consulted with her on our wedding day, the schedule, the 'must haves' on our photo list and that we were mostly hoping to capture us and our guests having a great time dancing. Erica came prepared and flexible as changes arose in pre-wedding shoot venues. She had a great eye, stopping us occasionally in front of cool buildings/graffiti in Williamsburg to take portrait and couples photos. She moved quickly through all of the 'must haves; she knows what she is doing and is efficient! Additionally, I (stupidly) did not prepare her that I would have a gown change during the evening; regardless, she was ready to capture my 're-entry'. She was truly there at all of the right moments without feeling invasive at all. She was also extremely patient with my mother, who suffers from dementia, giving small and clear adjustments to avoid my mother being confused or overwhelmed. We just received our photos from the wedding day, and wow... they are stunning. My husband and I agreed that we would be happy if we had a handful of good ones, but we are astonished by how much she was able to capture so beautifully! I'm from SF and was planning on surprising and flying my (then) girlfriend to NYC for a secret proposal at the Top of the Rock. In my ad I put up the fact that this was a VERY important moment in my life, and that I needed an incognito photographer who understood the importance of getting that *one* shot of the perfect moment. I had about 30 people respond to me, all of them were very basic cut and paste replies, but Jen's response was well thought out and it was clear that she "got it". I gave her a call and after a few minutes on the phone I knew she was awesome! Over the course of the next 2 months (I proposed at the end of April) Jen was great at communicating with me, the invoice/contract were all effortless. She was super easy to work with when I bounced ideas off of her as far as when/where to be in position for when I proposed (I actually sent her some screenshots from Google Earth as well as youtube videos of people walking around top of the rock) so we could get the best framing/shot. Come April 24th, the day I proposed, Jen was in position about an hour before I was going to head to Rockefeller Center and she texted me some advice about weather conditions and to wait to make sure that there was a little room between us and everyone else when I proposed so she could get the shot. I sent her a picture of us getting ready so she knew what we would be wearing and she let me know she would be wearing an orange headband. I nervously headed to Rockefeller with my girlfriend and once I was in place on the 3rd floor of top of the Rock, I saw Jen with her camera and orange headband, gave her a wink and waited for my moment (there were tons of people around us, so I had to wait for a clearing in groups). The entire time I was sitting there with my fiance I could hear Jen behind us snapping pictures and my gf was none the wiser. Finally, the group to our immediate left stepped back and thats when I got down on one knee and proposed, she said yes and I could not be more relieved. It wasn't until after a minute that I let her know about Jen's presence and introduced her to Jen. Jen and I had agreed on about 45 minutes of shooting after the proposal to capture some pictures as the sun was going down and our first moments as a newly engaged couple. Jen has a great personality and made us feel super comfortable as we took our engagement photos at Top of The Rock and then down on street level in Rockefeller Plaza. She even made sure we got a jumping picture in front of a NYC taxi (we all ran half a block to a red light where one had stopped). All in all the experience with Cyrience was great, super easy to work with beforehand, great communication and you can tell she is incredibly passionate about her work and understands the importance photography has to her clients. Experience aside, the photographs we got back we AMAZING (I'll be sure to upload some or link to some). She got several amazing shots in the minutes before the proposal and got several shots of the actual proposal that show different emotions as my (now) fiance figured out what was going on. There's one shot specifically right where she sees the ring that is the PERFECT picture, needless to say Jen nailed it and exceeded every expectation I had. I'll be honest: I'm uncomfortable in front of the camera. My caveat when being invited into wedding parties is "I'd love to be a bridesmaid ... as long as you don't mind me ruining all your photos." Yet somehow Jen was able to capture a slew of shots that were both attractive and artistic. Another difficult photographic study? Interiors. It takes a sharp eye and patient individual to make a store or a home or a building aesthetic interesting. And guess what? Jen nailed it. To say I will work with Jen is an understatement.
