Went here today to sell my bracelet, and I would not recommend wasting your time. The guy seemed nice, but I wouldn't trust them when it comes to evaluating gold. Their scale showed my bracelet at only 17.26 grams, and they tested it as 18K gold, even though I know for a fact that it is 21K gold. Based on their results, they offered me only $2,200. I then went to another pawn shop in Arlington Heights, where my bracelet weighed 25.7 grams and I was offered $2,600. The large difference in both the weight and offer raised serious concerns for me. As far as real life pawn shops go (I don't buy into the "reality" of tv shows) Alexander's is about as good as it gets. Honest, pays more to buy gold or silver than the little shops popping up all over. They are not rude like many shops. The guys I usually see there are friendly and helpful, always explain what you need to know and are very easy to work with. NEEDING a quick loan is never a pleasure but whether buying or selling or getting a loan, it's been a good experience. read more

I was in the area and decided to pop in to see their stock of Gold and Silver coins/bars/rounds whatnot. Poster J.R. has it right- this place looked like a disaster site with detritus everywhere. The fellows were friendly and asked if I needed anything, but the only bullion they had was a handful of American silver eagles that they wanted an eye-watering amount of spot +10 for; which is essentially a 67% markup. When asked why they were priced in that manner, they replied that that's the amount they paid for them and they could not suffer the loss at today's lower market price. Current prices are ~spot +3 or +4. +5 is considered too much for most people. +10 is unheard of. If they really have such slim margins that taking a ~$5 hit on a handful of coins (there were only five or six of them if I recall) then I have to wonder how long they will be in business. Nice enough folks, but they need to accept reality for some things. Right now, those coins will remain unsold unless purchased by someone with zero idea of what the cost should be. Or the heat death of the universe. Whichever comes first. read more
