I had a laundry list of items that needed electrician expertise. I called their office and spoke to Karen who was extremely nice. She kept great communication with me, checked on availability and called me back as promised for an appointment today ( I called yesterday ). I received a call this am letting me know they were on the way and they arrived at the expected time. They have company branded trucks/vans. Brian was the electrician and was a great guy. He took care of all my items today and even bought in a huge ladder to changed the LED bulbs I provided in my vaulted ceilings and kitchen. Brian was very professional and had a great sense of humor. I was able to talk to Karen on the phone in their office and make payment before he left. Very easy process. I will definitely put them on my go to list for any electrical needs. I called Alexander Electric on Mon morning, Apr 15, and spoke with Karen. I needed a quick, relatively simple job of two lights removed from the exterior of our house. Karen asked for pictures to be sent to her at karen@alexanderelectric.biz so she could discuss an estimate with the owner, which I promptly sent at the end of our phone call. Full day goes by and I don't hear back from her, so I call a second time and leave her a voice message. Karen responded the next day via e-mail saying she had received my first e-mail and would "go over it with the owner" and get back to me. I then received a 3rd email asking what city I lived in (which I had told her on the phone), which I replied ASAP to, and that was the last I heard from her. It's now Tue, Apr. 23 and I haven't heard from her since last week. I'm sure they do great work, but I could never get them to respond with an estimate or their availability. They changed our 27 residential can lights to these really cool adjustable led lights! Alex and Nick were very knowledgeable, efficient and professional. Alex even helped us find a water leak we had coming from one of our lights! He found that it was from a leaking old humidifier filter attached to our air conditioner! On Monday I called for an appointment to bid work on a rental property. Karen answered the phone and we discussed the projects, both the bid elements and the repair aspect. She needed to confer with someone about it and called me back a short time later. I emailed details of the project to her at the address she provided karen@alexanderelectric.biz and confirmed the appointment at 3:00 Friday. She asked for the tenant's contact information to confirm the appointment. The tenant took Friday afternoon off to open the property and no one ever showed up or contacted either of us by phone or email to say that they would not. Managing properties from out of the area is hard enough without unreliable vendors like Alexander Electric. UPDTATE: After reading this review, Karen Pulos sent the following reply to the email I had sent with all the details confirming the appointment: - "I'm sorry that you felt you had to reach out this way. Yes we should have had better follow up. I had called your tenant prior to this for the address which was not provided in this email. She never called me back. As the week progressed the week got busier so I forgot to try again, but it was hard to confirm an appointment with no call back and with no address to go to." No reply. No offer to make it right. No explanation why she didn't reply to my email or call me. Just an accusation, and the tenant says that she never received the call Karen says she made. Oh, and the property address? Weeks late, 75% cost overruns, and not even a job well done. Failed to anticipate risks from Dublin's building code that ended up costing me thousands of dollars. Then they claimed (repeatedly) that they had no way of anticipating this risk - as if in thirty years of experience (as they claim on their website and in their marketing materials) they've never spoken to a city inspector or bothered to look at the city ordinances. Furthermore, they lost my initial records, requiring a requote that delayed the project by several weeks. And they didn't even really take the time to understand what I was trying to do. Admittedly, the last one is partially my fault - I should have checked that the cables they were running would work with my equipment - but they knew I was a first-time home owner and I feel that professional electricians should take the time to understand their customers' use cases to make sure that they were doing the right thing. To top it off, after promising not to leave holes in my walls, they did. And the "drywall contractor" they recommended me to doesn't do dry wall. Way to go, Alexander. read more

He knew I was working in the next room & made an effort to keep the noise down for me when I was on a conference call. He took the time to make sure the lights were placed where I would get the best lighting at my work station. He let me do the unveiling of turning on the lights which I thought was really cool. Our latest job involved upgrading our old knob and tube wiring in our attic. I called the office to set up our initial site visit. Alexander electric has helped me and my family with fast knowledgable electrical service. One morning the lights in our master bathroom would not work. When i tried with the nothing happened. I flipped the braker at the fuose box and tried the switch again. The switch began to smoke and then the braker went out again. We had no lights upstairs and it was 5:30 AM with 4 people to get up and off to their day. At 8:00 I called Alexander electric and Alex said they would be out that morning. These guys are fantastic. The same day he came out to give a quote he was able to start work. Within 30 minutes he had gone back to the shop, picked up another worker and parts and came back. I had them run an outside outlet with conduit. They were fast, efficient and the work was topnotch quality. It took less than 90 minutes. I also had them look at putting a new timer I had on a pool pump. The figured out it was incorrectly wired and had no ground. Funny, that's how the pool technician hooked it up. They are friendly, knowledgeable and don't seem out to make a fast buck. They also took the time to answer my questions without making me feel like an idiot for asking. I hired these guys a few years ago to upgrade an old 100-amp service to 200-amp service. It involved installing a new disconnect outside of the garage with a new mast, running a cable to a distribution panel inside the garage, and working with PG&E to connect to the new service. The work was done on time, but there were a few minor things that bothered me: 1. When the business owner came to see the house, he brought with him the guy that would do the work. They talked to each other like I was not there, even when I had questions. Even if you assume your customer is an idiot, don't treat them like they are, especially at their own home. 2. The electrician who did the work was careless about dropping drywall screws and nails on the garage and driveway. I mentioned this once, but it didn't seem to improve. 3. When making the hole for the cable to come through the garage wall, it looks like the primary tool used was a hammer. Yes, stucco over wire mesh is difficult to cut, but there are tools to do it neatly. 4. The boxes and circuit breakers they used were Murray, which is pretty much the chintziest that Home Depot sells. My fault, I guess, since I should have asked when I received the quote. They did ok. The work was done on time and for the cost they quoted me. I just think they could be more conscientious in their work and more respectful of their customers. read more

Second time I have used Alexander Electric. The employees who came to do the work arrived on time. In fact the company office called several hours before the arrival to alert me Mr. Munoz would be on time. Mr. Munoz was polite, asked a few questions and went right to work. He was knowledgeable and expertly completed his tasks, installing two new wall outlets very timely at a very affordable price. When he was ready to leave he cleaned up around his area of work - never knew he was here, other than 2 new outlets that looked like they had been there forever. We've called Alexander Electric three times, asking them to come out and give us a bid. Each time, we talk to a lady there and she takes our call back info and then never a call back. We are in the next town over, and want to use a local electrician if possible. After the first time, I thought "well, it happens". So I called again. Still no call back. Not sure why we called a third time, but we did... still no call back! From the reviews on Yelp, it either sounds like they do good work or they have friends and family writing reviews for them. Very professional, courteous & excellent. One of our places needed to be troubleshooted. A previous electrician our tenant had said there is a problem and it will need a $500 part. I didn't believe it from what our tenant said the problem was. I called Alexander Electrician and they set up a time and trouble-shooted everything thing. They checked the plugs, the circuit breaker and light switches. Come to find out the wiring was done incorrectly and the electrician made the repair. And it didn't take long, too. I was referred to Alexander Electric by General Contractors. Alex came out to Oakland from Castro Valley, replaced a GFI with my own purchase, and replaced a switch in my old switch box with a used one he had with him. It had a broken plastic tab. He did not examine a blown out wall outlet. He switched a wire in the box in a way that made sense, but later the system blew. My light switches worked until the next PG and E outage in my area, when the whole front and hallway area went out, not to be fixed by switching the circuit breakers off and on. Alex was pleasant, courteous and talkative, which I liked. But I had had to stay in the whole afternoon before (the original appointment), he did not get back here to help when the outage happened, and simply thinks I need a new box. I was surprised that the fee was $425.00 for the fix. Then my check bounced, because a refund I expected wasn't deposited to my checking. Karen wanted my new credit card number as soon as it got here, and I called to give it in July. But she wasn't there. It is August 1st, I believe there is money in checking, and these people want a cashier's check. They are not a friend in need; they are not super electricians; I am willing to pay the late fee, and I will go elsewhere to get a new electrical wiring box. "70 and still learning." read more

We don't like referrals, so please do not give them to us.... I gave these people a referral to my landlord when I was having electrical issues in my rental. There were sparks flying out of the outlet with nothing even plugged into it so it was pretty scary. I had some concerns that one of the circuits could be overloaded because there were several rooms wired to one circuit, which didn't really make sense looking at the rest of the layout. I spoke with the owner (Karen) and she concurred and said I could talk to the electrician when he looked at it to see what his take was on it. When the electrician (John) was at the rental, I was working so spoke with him over the phone. To my surprise, he refused to discuss anything with me. We had even started off the call based on my discussion with Karen, and he confirmed he had the heads up. He would not answer my questions though. In fact, he was argumentative and hostile in his attitude and tried to intimidate me - and then he even had the nerve to accuse me of being rude to him. Wow. Completely unreasonable. I felt like this guy was being some kind of misogynistic bully. Considering I was the person gracious enough to give them a business referral to begin with, you'd think a bit of dignity or at least professionalism would have been in order. In fact, most people would actually be GRATEFUL when you give them a referral... I later spoke with the owner about John's behavior. She said that John had told her the situation and the landlord asked him not to discuss things with me; and that was why he acted the way he did. She was matter of fact and completely unapologetic as to her employee's horrible behavior; she did not offer to coach or correct him in any way; and she did not take accountability for their original commitment to discuss his observations with me. Oh, and by the way, she didn't even said thanks for the referral:P She seemed to think John's horrible conduct was just fine and I was the one in the wrong. Apparently, I was wrong to have questions that she herself agreed were valid; and I was wrong for being a tenant because tenants go around plugging things in (ridiculous- but even so, in my case nothing was even plugged into the exploding outlet.) Basically, it was 'Hey lady, screw you for giving us a referral. We don't like people who do that!" Obviously, I will not give them any more referrals, or any future business of my own of course. read more

I cannot say enough about the customer service of this company. Karen always returned my calls and e-mails promptly. She worked with me to set up a time that was convenient for me. This was particularly important, since I do not live in the house or the city where the work was to be performed. The job was providing and installing new 220 circuit for dryer and 110 circuit for washer in a 64 year old house in Hayward. Brian, the electrician, came on time, knew what he was doing, and was very nice to work with. This was my first experience with Alexander Electric, but it will not be my last.
