The facility itself is also tastefully decorated and felt very respectful of people coming in to pay their respects or families dealing with the loss of their loved one. No complaints from my end though I was here for my friend's father who was a doctor and apparently the one responsible for creating the 911 system in NYC (something we take for granted these days so most definitely a task worthy of praise).

Dudes that looked like they belong elsewhere eating wings and a so called funeral director (not the same one I dealt with in 2013) just as ghetto. No tact no empathy. I requested a change of casket since the one my cousin chose wasn't up to par and I was told it couldn't be done bc allegedly the body was already in the casket which I suspect wasn't true. Finally the morning of the burial they were over an hour late to pick him up and go to the cemetery. No reason given just kept telling us they were on the way. Unless this place has changed management and staff in the last 7yrs I would not use this place. I'd rate them no stars but that's not possible.

From the start they were compassionate, gentle and kind. There was no attempt made to upsell their services. They quickly took possession of my brother before I arrived in New York and it was a comfort to my family that he was no longer in the city morgue while I flew out to NY. They made the entire process of his wake and cremation as simple and gentle as possible. Mr. Lee was the one who prepared my brother for viewing. Mr. Lee is an artistic genius, due to throat cancer my brother did not look as he once did but Mr. Lee worked a miracle and despite the circumstances of his death my brother looked as if he had just settled down for a nap on my sofa. I half expected his ankles to be crossed as was his habit in life. While searching for a funeral home I found out that the one my family traditionally used was having legal issues over quality and was forced to look elsewhere to arrange funeral services. I'd contacted several funeral homes before deciding to go with FAS due to their location and was surprised to find that they were the least expensive out of all the funeral homes I'd contacted. They were budget friendly without being skimpy. Located in an area with several funeral homes, they are small, not so flashy and easily overlooked but they provide wonderful service and are kind and compassionate. I highly recommend them and will use them again should the need arise.

We did some pre-planning for my Mom several months earlier as we visited two other funeral parlors…read moreon the same block. Upon her passing, we contacted Ng Fook as we chose them to handle the entire process including sending the Mortuary attendants to pick up her body within a short time after being released. We later met with Alex Lee who explained to us the options available to prepare the decease one's funeral viewing. There is a price list outlining the costs for each service such as casket, makeup, hair, flowers, embalming, music band, monks to chant, room size, etc. Alex then told us what the customs are with a Chinese wake and funeral explaining step by step such as greeting all arriving guests, bowing, incents, joss paper money, knelling before the casket, waist and arm bands for the family, small flower to hold onto for 3 days, meals for the family after the service, etc. There is even an obituary section on their website showing information about the deceased, the viewing times and the final resting place. Everything starts to add up but we had an idea of what to pay beforehand as it was important for us to pick the right place for my Mom's wake. Upon the final stop at the cemetery, the staff continued with guiding us with what to do, positioning the family at the chapel, coin inside the envelope, consuming a piece of candy, stepping over a small flame, etc. Being in this business, the staff has to deal with constant sadness, stress, unhappiness, grief and turnovers of their customers. But it was assuring that everything went well making the entire ordeal manageable for my family and that my Mom was able to reach her final destination and to rest in peace. I recommend Ng Fook Funeral service when that time comes for your love ones.

It feels odd writing a review for a cemetery, but I have been here a bunch of times, either as the…read moremain part of walking tours or as part of other walks, such as to Prospect Park, or otherwise at various times of the year. Side note, I am pretty sure it's free for solo people, but if you go with a large enough group, they have a $5 fee per person, which is reasonable. In general, I would recommend coming here in the fall, not just because the weather will be nicer, but also because the trees are beautiful, and winter is nice as well, due to the frozen lake, among other things. The spring is nice as well, but there are better places to see leaves in bloom, as there are more wintery shrubs here. The area is massive, and you could honestly spend many hours going to various corners. There are highlights such as a well-known view of the Statue of Liberty, many sculptures, and graves for people ranging from Samuel Morse to Boss Tweed to Leonard Bernstein to Louis Comfort Tiffany to Henry Chadwick, among others, along with many people from various wars, of course, such as the civil war with one particularly interesting grave having a confederate and union soldier next to each other for reasons. The place is particularly well-maintained compared to other cemeteries I have been to, with the entrance being striking among other things.
