Dr. Kpop ignored my mother's irregular echocardiogram for three years and then she had a stroke. She went to the doctor regularly. He never mentioned that she should have a follow-up echo and that she should be on blood thinners. He always pushed her off onto his physician assistants who rotated through his office. He is incompetent I don't know if it's because of his age and he should just retire or if he's always been this way. He also didn't notice for 20 years that my mother needed hip replacement. She called him complaining that she needed PT because her walking was getting difficult and he never called her in to evaluate her. He just ga e her the PT prescription without seeing her. The PT could tell right away that she needed she need hip replacement and sent her off for an x-ray why couldn't Dr Koop have done this for her? What does he do at the office? His wife is the office secretary. Maybe this is another issue. read more

Dr. Kopp is something of a mixed bag. While he does give a great colonoscopy (he was very thorough, caring, and MUCH faster than I thought possible), he has a few quirks as well. If you're having an emergency, you'd better have a back-up plan. He gets booked up pretty far in advance, so if there's a problem and you really need to see your doc, it could still be weeks before they can squeeze you in. And even then, you may get stuck with the nurse practitioner Lawna (who is really nice & great with patients, but still... if I need my doctor, I really want to see my doctor). Additionally, there is no point in coming to your appointment on time, because the doctor is always running late. In all the times I've seen Dr. Kopp, the waiting time has been AT LEAST an hour each and every time. On the upside, he does spend a lot of time with you once you're in the exam room, but he also has a tendency to repeat himself and get off-tangent. I think some people may really enjoy that kind of personal attention, but frankly I'm all business when I'm getting medical stuff done. I want to get in, get out, and get on with my day. I also feel like an a$$ when I see other people in the waiting room behind me, and I just KNOW they're gonna be waiting there for another hour until my appointment is over. Again, I know lots of people need and want this kind of attention, but I really just want to take care of business! The bottom line is that for a colonoscopy, I wouldn't want to go to anyone but Dr. Kopp! He is truly a compassionate & caring medical professional who is great at what he does. However, for the day-to-day checkup or minor digestive blip, it may behoove you to ask your GP for another recommendation just in case you're pressed for time. read more

I saw Dr. Kopp just after I had my daughter. My diagnosis wasn't a huge deal looking back at it 5 years later, but he made me feel like I was going to die in 6 months. I switched Dr.'s to another practice on the 3rd floor and am treated like a human, not just a name with some minor vitamin deficiencies. read more

I never even saw Dr. Kopp, and instead I had to see his extremely condescending, obnoxious, unprofessional, and rude Nurse Practitioner Lana Wigle. Don't go to this office unless you're a rich old white person in Newton. Anyone else is beyond the capacity of this extremely limited office. I met Dr. Kopp 2 years ago when I had my first colonoscopy. He has a great bedside manner, is caring, and took a lot of time to answer my concerns about the results of my my procedure. I did have some questionable results and had to have the procedure repeated on August 29, 2014. I can't say enough about how well Dr. Kopp and the staff at NWH treated me and made me feel safe and comfortable. I would highly recommend Dr. Kopp to anyone. Dr. Kopp is the most conscientious doctor I've ever had. He goes over every aspect of your health, and spends time with you to diagnose you correctly. (He literally spends over an hour with you.) I have had several endoscopies and several colonoscopies and sygmoidoscopies with Dr. Kopp with absolutely no complications. In addition, after my husband was having either a lithotripsy or removal of a kidney stone with Dr. J. Lamont, my husband turned jaundiced. Within a few hours he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I'm not even sure that my husband had had his colonoscopy with Dr. Kopp yet, but Dr. Kopp jumped into action and came immediately up to my husband's hospital room, being a true Mensch. He connected us with the Surgeon-in-Chief at Mass General, Dr. Keith Lillimoe, who was world-renowned Whipple Surgeon. Dr. Kopp is an exception among doctors. He and his wife, Elka, have devoted their lives to giving patients the best possible medical care. read more

Dr. Kopp treated my dear friend for months and had no diagnosis and never did a CAT scan until it was too late. And at that, the CAT scan was ordered by another physician. By the time she got those results she had late stage pancreatic cancer and has only a short time to live. He is a GI specialist who should certainly know the symptoms of this kind of cancer. She was only allowed to see his PA, even when Dr. Kopp himself asked her to make an appointment with him. She felt ignored and pandered to. His wife is a nightmare. I am saying this to save your life. Run if you are being treated by this man, or thinking of seeing him. read more

He is a knowledgeable doctor. But he is very rude and so is his wife who manages the office. The staff changes often. He wants you to see his nurse practitioner instead of taking up his time. But he spends as much time as you need with him. Several times he has spent an hour with me. The final straw was when he called social worker office and told the social worker that I was suicidal when I wasn't. read more
