I've started coming to AMT this year. I've gone to Maggie for deep tissue massage and she does an excellent job. She will clearly explains when I have questions. She was recommended by a fitness coach who has a doctorate in Physical Therapy. The receptionist is very polite and not at all pushy by trying to sell other services . When my husband showed up on Saturday for his appointment, the appointment had never been made in the system -- the person that I spoke with had indeed created the account and entered my credit card information, but didn't make an appointment. I want to preface by saying I really didn't want to leave this review. I understand how difficult it is to make money in the wellness field, but this was just really frustrating for me and massages are so expensive, at the very least you should get what you expect in pressure and environment. First of all, my massage therapist was very clearly sick, and I'm pretty upset about that. She had an obvious cough and tried to say it was her asthma but it was very clearly an upper respiratory illness. Like, when she would try to hide her cough there was production behind it and she sounded congested when she spoke. Really worrisome. Second, there was no music. Through my 90min it would come on for 2 min and then go off for the next 30. Not relaxing at all, and distracting. Terrible environment. I'm just laying there listening to the sound of my therapist's breath and the noise from outside the room. Third, I requested a deep tissue massage, both when I scheduled, and when I spoke to the receptionist to confirm. I made it clear that was what I wanted and needed a therapist that could provide that. I then specific that with her when I walked in and explained that I have very specific issues I needed help with that impede my own work. Even tho I asked for an increase in pressure multiple times, this was the most ineffective massage I've ever received. Barely any pressure, barely even at a Swedish massage level, and she just continuously rubbed up and down without any focus. The only thing that was good was the short time she focused on my heel for me which was bothering me, but it feels no better today than it did yesterday. I'm a nice person and didn't complain when I left, and did everything nice people do because who wants to have a confrontation or ask to speak to a manager in a massage therapy business? I also just desperately wanted to go take a shower so I didn't get sick if my suspicions were correct. It's too much money for all of these things to be wrong, and if I get sick I am going to be extremely upset to spend that much and then be out of work. If I don't work, I don't get paid. You should not allow your therapists to put their hands on people when they have a cough. read more

The Alexandria Massage Therapy on the 1200 block of King street is definitely worth a visit. The atmosphere, the attitude and in particular the masseuse I had were perfect. I walked in with a good amount of pain and left there with none. The good result lasted through today as my lower back pain and sciatica have significantly diminished, if not gone away completely. It is an absolute shame I have to give a 1 star for this session. My therapist was very sweet and I was looking forward to scheduling more appointments but will never come here again. They accused me of a "no-show" when it was in fact a reschedule that their reception team did not record properly. This resulted in me paying over $200 for a 45-minute appointment. It was for a prenatal massage, so what is supposed to be a relaxing experience, has turned into a nightmare. They are robbing innocent people of money and claiming their office staff did nothing wrong. I always try to support small businesses as you should, but when a company isn't able to even meet halfway, it is best the broader public knows. Their front desk receptionist is extremely rude, speaks over you and does not listen. This is a massage therapy center and she has created a toxic, non-relaxing atmosphere. Valessa is a miracle worker. As someone who works out a lot, and carries tension in my shoulders, I needed a deep massage that left me feeling like jello. Valessa delivered. She dug deep into the knots (while making sure to check in on my comfort level) and worked out some serious built up tension. She worked triggery points, stretch my back, peppered in some very relaxing rub downs between the hard work and topped it off with a neck massage that left me feeling like a bobble head. I saw Melissa, a new therapist on Sunday. Her massage was out of this world. I don't ever feel like a therapist has gone deep enough and in this case I had to ask her to back off w the intensity. She toned it down right away. She was hitting trigger points and also incorporated some aromatherapy. She also soothed my muscles after they had released their toxicities and knots. I was blown away by this massage. I feel great 3 days later and taller. I have mobility and range of motion and energy! read more

Very cute shop located in old town with a small sitting area- two chairs lol front desk hospitality & service was lacking. The decor was nice but the carpet was so stained... I Ordered a couples massage for my mom and I for her birthday. Price online was $95. When i paid it was 170. Never really got the chance to figure out why, didn't want to make a scene in front of my mom or she would've felt bad. The massages were good- my mom really enjoyed it. She left feeling refreshed & had no more shoulder pain. I received cupping & it was pretty good. But i left still having lower back pain so nothing was necessarily fixed. For the price i paid- that should've been a guarantee. I'd rather go to a place where a consult is done and I'm told the price before hand. Not after when it's too late. I was really looking forward to a prenatal massage today and was disappointed with my experience. I booked Alexandria Massage Therapy specifically because the description of their pregnancy massage on their website states, "We have a special pillow that will allow you to lay face down throughout the duration of your pregnancy to maximize your comfort." When I arrived my therapist stated that only a few therapists at the practice are trained to use that pillow and that she wasn't (the receptionist told me only one, Che, uses the pillow they advertise). I went through with my appointment but it was awkward as the therapist kept apologizing and assuring me that no one else has complained, and I wasn't able to fully relax on my back and side. I was made to feel guilty for expecting a service that was advertised (and that I paid for) but that was not provided. If you are going to offer prenatal massages on a regular massage table that's fine, and I'm sure plenty of women would be ok with that, but it's dishonest to advertise a special offering on your website (that distinguishes you from competitors) and then not actually provide that service.
