    Tuna tataki (seared tuna)

My girlfriend and I came here on our date night in Venice. I found Algiubagio online when I was looking for a romantic restaurant. Overall, we are both very happy with our experience here. Location and Ambience Their food turned out to be very good, but what drew us to Algiubagio is its ambience, the view of the lagoon from their deck. There were a couple of things we didn't know and we could not tell from the pictures posted on the restaurant webpage. First, the deck looked much older and less elegant than it appeared online. Second, there's a water bus stop/deck right next to it. Our reservation was 7pm. When we got here, it was still light out. So, the oldness of the deck was more pronounced, which was unromantic. Also, since it was still early in the evening, there were water buses constantly running literally right in front of our table (yes, some people were waving at us from the bus). So, here is my recommendation (CRITICAL): check what time sun goes down before making your reservation. After the sun went down, the ambience improved dramatically. Food I would not come here just for the food without the ambience, but the quality of the food was higher than I had anticipated. I ordered the Linguine alle vongole veraci e zest di limone (Linguine with clams and lemon zest) and Filetto di tonno tataki, spuma di piselli, croccante di mais e gelatina di soya (Tuna tataki let, green beans mousse, crispy corn and soya jelly). The linguine did not leave much impression on me, but the tuna was very fresh and seared perfectly (not overcooked). I thought the prices were very reasonable (for Venice). They also have several prix fixe menus (from 2 to 4 course menus), and they are particularly reasonable. Conclusion We had a very good time at this restaurant (4 stars), but I am not sure if I would come back here. Algiubagio is in a very quiet part of Venice near the hospital (Castello). My girlfriend and I both enjoyed breaking away from all the tourists around our hotel in San Marco and having a quiet dinner. There was nothing wrong with Algiubagio (except before sunset), but it did not impress me enough to bring me back. I'm happy that I tried Algiubagio but I want to try a different restaurant next time. ****************************** If you found something useful in my review, please hit "useful" so that I can improve my reviews. Nestled on the north district of Venice along the sea, Algiubagio delivers an unique, upscale Italian dining experience. This Michelin rated restaurant offers a wide selection with a tasting menu as well as a full menu. The entrees range from Italian to French with some fusion mixed in. Algiubagio is well worth the trek and can be considered when looking for a more upscale experience away from the crowds in Venice. Right as you enter the restaurant you are greeted by a contemporary Italian restaurant crowned by magnificent Marano glass chandeliers. The menu speaks to a fine dining experience with the majority of dishes a modern twist to traditional Italian fare. There are also a select number of non-Italian contemporary dishes available. For drinks, highly recommend the Venetian Gin and Tonic. Hands down may be the best Gin and Tonic I have had with a wonderful presentation. The restaurant also offers a house red and white which are very good - and at a awesome price point. The homemade breadbasket and huge breadsticks are a perfect pairing for the drinks - I do wish there was either some olive oil or butter to pair with the bread. For the entrees, we ordered a combination of the shrimp carpaccio, tuna tarte, artichokes, and we also got the tempura vegetable and shrimp for sharing. Of these the shrimp carpaccio was the most unique and was well prepared. The shrimp and vegetable tempura was great for sharing. For the main entrees we ordered the duck, spicy shrimp linguine, vegetable pasta, and the 3 way preparation fish. Of these entrees, our favorites were the fish and duck. Fish was so tender on inside, but crispy on outside due to the unique way of preparation. Seasoning was also delicious. The duck was also very well cooked and was delicious. For dessert, get the Tiramisu, you will not regret it. Very interesting preparation with them almost deconstructing the cake into 2 pieces with crispy sugar along the side. Overall, very pleased with this meal. It was a good change of pace for the typical Italian meal and a worthwhile walk from the main drag in order to reach this location. Will be back to try to other innovative dishes they have to offer.

My partner and I arrived here hangry and looking for a good meal - luckily that's what we found!! We split a couple of things, recommended by our wonderful server: their version of saor, a large mixed fry, and tiramisu for dessert. The saor was wonderful, we weren't sure if we were going to like all of the strong flavors, but everything worked together so well! I preferred the pickled fish and onions portion of the dish while my partner preferred the whipped cod. The mixed fry came pre-split for us on two plate (wonderful surprise) and each of our portions were so large we had to ask to make sure they didn't accidentally make us two! LOL The mixed fry had zucchini, carrots, squid, and prawns - it was a beautiful light batter that was fried to perfection and served with a sweet chili dipping sauce. 10/10! The tiramisu was also delicious, it was a deconstructed version but had all the flavors we've come to expect. The place was a little pricy, we were glad we split everything, but for a view of the sunset over the water and very fresh seafood - it was worth the price (and our bill would have been much cheaper sans-wine)

I found it hard to rate this place in the sense that it had a lot of the things I had hoped for but missing some things I would consider essential. For location this is definitely a 5 stars. It's quiet, romantic, classy and understated. It's away from all the tourist areas and very calm and peaceful. The service is impeccable and the waiter we had was incredibly accommodating. They also did everything to ensure our special occasion truly felt special. The food however was 3 stars for me. My steak was cooked to perfection but lacked seasoning. The tuna tartar was nice but the sauce had a really flowery taste to it instead of the Wasabi flavour. My wife had a tart which was supposed to have cheese and cherry and as it turns out it was cheese and chicory (yes there is a big difference). Coffee here is excellent. Maybe I should come back try the seafood and pasta as my wife loved her Truffle infused spaghetti :-) I would definitely come back here for ambience and service and try something different next time.

Fantastic!!! The food was outrageously good. Each bite a taste sensation. We were very early for lunch but they accommodated us so warmly. The staff were attentive the wine list extensive the service impeccable. Best restaurant in Venezia!!!! Whatever you do visit this place... You won't regret it. *get the crema di patate con tartufo

I almost never give five stars, but this place is close. Make a reservation, ask for a table on the water. It's gorgeous as the sun is sinking and the lights are coming on. Had the benefit of a gorgeous full moon. Beef tartare, tuna tartare, amberjack, veal cheek...all just so, so good. Andy (Andrea) was a fabulous server and he and the staff took very good care of us. Excellent and lovely and romantic.

I normally do not write reviews. But This is the best restaurant I ever had in Italy. Best wine and best steak, highly recommended. Seafood is fresh and very tasty. Don't forget to get yourself a homemade dessert. You can sit next to the river, but I choose to sit inside, which is also very good. The location takes some time to walk, but it worths. The price is just a little higher than others in Venice, but the food and service is much more better.

The waiter is very friendly and invite us to have lunch, and menu price look reasonable so let's go for it. We ordered clam and mussels. So amazing and yummy, especially the soup! For dinner in peak season, try to make a reservation as the restaurant is very small. We arrived before our reservation time and were seated immediately inside and greeted warmly by the restaurant owner. We ordered a bottle of wine to start (most under 20 Euros for a 75 ML bottle). For appetizers we ordered the cheese with honey for 13 Euros, absolutely amazing! We also combined this with the local olive oil and fresh bread brought to the table to start as well. For our second course we chose two pastas, the Penne Alla Amatriciana (I think it was around 12 Euros), and the Spaghetti Alla Carbonara (I think it was around 12 Euros as well). Both had extremely fresh homemade ingredients and were out of this world and extreme attention to care in the preparation. For our entree we split the breaded pork chop (I think it was around 20 Euros), including a side of potatoes (similar to the steak fries that you would see in the U.S.) The service was absolutely amazing and we loved dining alongside the owner and his family and meeting the cat that also lives at the restaurant and comes by to greet you during the meal as well. It truly was like you were dining at the home of the owner and is a must try if you are in Venice!
