Another shot of the inside of the cafe and the main dining area

Great upbeat atmosphere! Very welcoming and seems popular as it was full when we arrived. Basic coffee that was good. Good food . Had a bacon breakfast plate. Could have been a bit hotter but I think that's just due to them being so busy. Bacon was perfect, wonderful well buttered toast. The hash browns we don great and eggs could have been a bit less cooked but still good . Overall, the best breakfast we have found in the area and good service even when slammed. Will become a regular for us.

Just a few cents shy of $15.00 for breakfast. Chocolate gravy was meh. Won't be doing that again!

We had a party of 10 and went early (before 6pm on a weekday). It was not busy, and when we arrived there was one couple seated. Despite this, I think they rushed our food. And we would have gladly waited a little longer for cooked food. :/ Everyone at the table who ordered "steamed broccoli" received hard, barely cooked broccoli. My mother-in-law's potatoes were not fully cooked, and her salmon was raw. Since all her food was not edible, they took it off the bill. So at least there's that. The green beans my mother ordered were also quite crunchy, which can be personal preference. I did not complain about my salmon, but it was undercooked as well. However, even if it were cooked, the lemon sauce makes it inedible. I order salmon at most restaurants and I have never tasted a more horrific sauce. I thought maybe I was being dramatic, so let everyone at the table taste the sauce. Every single one of them scrunched up their face and said "UGH!" It was described by my family members as "putrid, disgusting, rotten pudding, and having a strong iron taste." I have to agree there. When they put it on the table I thought the fish was bad, but it was just the strong smell of the sauce. So all the broccoli, salmon, and potatoes were undercooked... however everyone who ordered steak received it cooked way past what they had ordered. My husband ordered medium, and it looked close to well done. My nephew ordered medium rare, and it looked medium well. My husband's steak was still tender and tasty though, so he did not complain. His Brussels sprouts were decent and grits were very flavorful. My sides were mac and cheese and a salad. Those were both very good! The mac and cheese is in an interesting flavorful sauce. More creamy than cheesy, but I enjoyed it. The salad seemed pretty fresh with homemade dressing from what I could tell. Our server was nice, but did not check on us at all, and was only at the table to take our orders, deliver the food, and give us the check. The majority of us had empty drink glasses and would have wanted refills. There was an automatic tip of 20% on the bill because of the larger party, which was fine, but like I said, the service wasn't great since we didn't get checked on whatsoever. Overall, it's not the worst place I've ever been but it wasn't very good. You hate to go to a place that SHOULD be good, pay good money, and receive that quality, but we weren't going to sit there and every single one of us complain. Sometimes, you just have to eat a bad meal, laugh about it, and not return. The fact of the matter is there are much better places to eat in Cookeville with better food and better service, so we probably won't be back.

Ralphs Donut Shop - The iconic buttered twist!

Over the years on these vacations Toby and I have stopped in a handful of donut shops we were told…read morewere the best in the area. Whether it's wanting to take a break from the large platters we have in the morning usually on these trips are just genuinely craving something sweet, most donut shops are just okay. Ralphs was a genuine find. Not only was the glazed exactly like in an old-fashioned--the sourdough taste and such good nook and crannies texture-wise--but that maple bar was probably the best one I've ever eaten. The donut was soft and pillowy with a good chew to it. But that maple topping was like the perfect texture; it was runny but still had real heft to it. It was like someone put pure molten maple on top and if you shook it too hard like a wet dog it would all just go flying. Every bite I wish I could repeat because it was a donut that seemed to go by too fast. The counter person couldn't have been more friendly. She was like tidal wave of warmth and kindness to us. I wish all folks who worked morning shifts could be this nice. The ambiance was good. It was a little tiny with the counter space. But the fact it is a donut shop and not a restaurant makes the fact they could pack in twenty or so seats at all amazing. And of course they'd be packed with customers sitting shoulder-to-shoulder. If I lived close to a donut shop like this , I'd want to come every morning for my donuts and coffee. I'd definitely get fat here. Overall, this is my ideal donut shop. There's a reason we made the 60 mile drive here for a few donuts and milk, and then drove 60 miles back to the hotel. There are just some donut joints that are worth a 120-mile donut run.

There are few places left that I have been that truly evoke nostalgia. The kind of nostalgia that…read moreeven my granny would identify with. A slower pace. An old Coca Cola menu board. The smell of fresh yeast and powdered sugar. Ralphs. Please never change. Not the original donut cases. Not the recipes. Nothing. We drove all the way from Nashville to Cookeville for the privilege of buying a dozen of these heavenly donuts. Nothing inventive really. But a flavor profile that wins every time.

The workers don't even know what all is in their food. The manger might be 20 years old and you can tell. The employees consist of the manger, her twin sister, her brother, and the mangers boyfriend and then there is the baker who is friends with the owner. If you are not related to the manger by blood or dating them then if you want a job there I would recommend applying to anywhere else because the manger ensures that her family and boyfriend gets all the hours and pushes other employees out. The last person the manager fired. She fired them over the phone 1 hour before that individual had to be at work. Over stuff that the employee had no control over and was never trained properly on how to do everything that was needed. This is how the manager runs this establishment. It is pathetic and the owner needs to be a more present figure in the establishment and not let arrogant and entitled teenagers run their shop
