That was until I moved to the east side and discovered Ali Babas. I've only had the gyro and fries, but for your dollar, there is no better place. It is hard to find a good Gyro in Cincinnati. The first time I ate at Ali Baba Mediterranean Grill, about 4 weeks ago, the Gyro was amazing. The lamb was tender and delicious. I thought for sure that I had finally found my place to get Gyros. Today was my second time eating at Ali Baba. I am sorry to say it was a grave disappointment from the first visit. They changed the original Gyro which should have been lamb to a mixture of beef and lamb. The Gyro meat was dry and there was so much fat from the addition of the beef that I had indigestion for most of the evening. I am so sad. It is upsetting when a restaurant gets some measure of success and starts fooling with quality by buying lower costing products to increase their profit margin. BOO Ali Baba! Currently salivating on my keyboard. You must trust me on this one. Kabobs are all super juicy and perfectly seasoned. Six extremely fresh and hot falafels for $3. Beat that. Platters, entrees/plates are the best because you can choose all your sides. The must is the baba ganoush-- an irresistibly smokey flavor. My favorites are also the cauliflower, red cabbage, and eggplant. Ali's is the best because you can relieve your curiosity of most of their items in one plate as long as you choose the meat. They also have burgers/fries/cheese steaks for the skeptics. Entree prices fall from $5-$11. Good deal for the food you get, and you will not be unhappy! Hooray! read more

Cincinnati magazine said this place has the best falafel in town. Because they also said Betta's has the best pizza in town, which it most certainly does not, I was skeptical. But I've been looking for good Mediterranean food in Cincy, so I gave it a shot. I'm so glad I did. The falafel claim was correct. It's crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and not too greasy or spicy. The pita bread, baba ghanoush and grape leaves are also perfect. Atmosphere here is nonexistent, but the food is cheap, plentiful and well made, even if it might not look like much on the plate. Go with a friend, get the vegetable and falafel platters, then share the falafel. You'll be glad you did, too. read more

This place is a solid 4! The food is delicious and they are more than generous with their meats. I got the gyro and I was challenged with the sheer mass of this thing! I usually pride myself with foods that exceed the width of my mouth. This was my biggest feat yet. I am proud to say I conquered this is one sitting. The meal was more than satisfactory I definitely recommend coming here. But be warned they like to keep their binds closed making the interior feel drab...almost sketchy... The service is very minimal. The guy is nice but not friendly...I didn't mind it to much. The funny part was that the workers had a couple boxes of Pizza Hut out that they took turns snacking off of. I understand we all gotta eat but it was definitely funny to see a Pizza Hut on one of the dining tables... Maybe not the most romantic place to bring your date. read more

Both the falafel and chicken shawarma are delicious. Plenty of toppings, from tzatziki to pickled onions to kalamata olives. Food is made to order, which is both a pro and a con: it's fresh and just how you like it, but also can get crazy slow during busy times. (Also--would be great if they used names, or numbers, to keep track of orders--multiple times I've been there and one of the staff calls out that a Falafel is ready and 6 people jump up out of their seats). Great food. Not set up to be a comfortable eat-in place: chipped linoleum floor, no noticeable heat/AC, etc. Just don't go expecting it to be what it is not. Really enjoyed my experience here. I got the chicken kabob platter and left stuffed and very satisfied. I got to choose all the sides for my platter and all were very fresh and delicious. You can tell they take a lot of pride in making everything from scratch and using fresh ingredients. Our food took awhile to get to us, but it was clearly made to order so can't knock them for that. With a Lebanese background, I'm always looking for a place with fresh hummus, lamb dishes, and tabouleh. At first glance this place seems sketchy- a piece meal of restaurant counters, poster board menus and tables. But have faith in the falafel- get extra cucumber and yogurt sauce and try the chicken shawarma pita. You won't regret it. I can almost hear my grandpa shouting in the back of the restaurant. I have driven by this place so many times, and finally decided to try it. First gyro I have had in Cincinnati, and it was delicious. You definitely get the most bang for your buck! I got the lamb gyro with the works- lettuce, tomato, onion, tzatziki sauce. It came with plenty of lamb. They make it fresh when you come in and I had to wait only a few minutes. The man working there was very nice- great customer service. This gyro was unique because they put all of the toppings in first and the lamb on top. When you take a bite you get all of the flavors at once and it's just delicious. It is in a tiny little shopping center off Red Bank. There are some tables and the ambiance isn't much, but you should go for the food. I just got my gyro to go. I will definitely be going back next time I am in the mood for a gyro. read more

We only get take-out here, but Ali Baba has some tasty food. You can get your typical pita sandwiches- the falafel and the gyro are both really good. Even better, they have a ton of toppings you can choose from- hummus, tahini, eggplant, etc. to add to your sandwich. Good food for a good value.
