Alice C. Wainwright Park is an AOK place to head for if you want to get some shade close to the water. It's just right if you want to do not a whole lot of anything for a few hours. Tip: The street directly in front of the park doeesn't allow any thru traffic; it's just for use by the people that live there The views of Downtown Miami are decidedly underwhelming, but you can walk, bike, run, or just hang out. There's also no eateries to speak of that are close at hand, so bear this in mind. read more

Just an amazing escape from the city. Peaceful views and I always felt extremely safe. Almost like I was the bad guy for looking for small lizards and migrating birds! Ha. Jk. Everyone was always super friendly and the neighborhood is an amazing aesthetic. Id walk from the One Miami almost 3-5x a week here just to enjoy my time. The park does close fairly early though and theres no entry after dark. read more

They just finished redoing the area closest to the water and it looks great. There was a point in time that the only people that would go to the northern part were homeless and young couples that wanted to horizontal tango. They added solar powered light and opened it up a bunch with walkways and benches. read more

This park is absolutely glorious. If you're looking to go on a waterfront walk, post up for a picnic, throw an outdoor birthday party, or take the kids to play this is a good sport for you. The park is free, and so is parking. The parking can be a bit tricky, so if you're coming in a group I'd suggest carpooling. If you didn't know that Alice Wainwright park existed, you may just miss it since its in a residential neighborhood in the Grove. Highly recommend to enjoy a picnic there while the weather is not to hot. read more

What a shame with the group of people that decided to chop down the pine trees. They completely took the magic out of the park. The new design is an embarrassment and a lack of planning. Your best bet to enjoy this park is during a weekday, because during the weekends, the cyclist, early in the morning take all the parking spots After the new remodeling and reconstruction inside, natural areas have been cut for a more relaxed walkable area, even though that area was perfect to hang out, under a tree, relaxing, I am feeling the Seabreeze next to Rickenbacker towards Rickenbacker I'm still gonna go back because it's still a great little park. In northern Coconut Grove you will find Alice C. Wainwright Park named after the first female elected to serve on the City of Miami Commission. Alice Wainwright was a dedicated environmentalist who was closely associated with Marjory Stoneman Douglas. The two women worked together to found the Everglades protection group in 1969. Alice wrote the charter for Friends of the Everglades and represented the Audubon Society in South Florida for 20 years. She was able to stop a jetport in Big Cypress Swamp that threatened the endangered Florida Panther and prevented a resort in what is now Biscayne National Park. Alice Wainwright passed away at the age of 83. Since Alice Wainwright was a long time protector of the environment it seems appropriate that a 28 acre park and nature area was named for her. This park shares part of the hardwood hammock known as Brickell Hammock with nearby Simpson park. Located in a neighborhood that is directly on the Biscayne Bay you get a wonderful view of the Miami City Skyline. This park is great for picnics, biking, and running. Park amenities include a playground, picnic pavilions, two basketball courts, and an outside gym. At one time this park was thought to be responsible for bringing crime to the area. The wealthy homeowners were able to get increased protection for the area. When I visited there was a police car monitoring the area. The downside to this park is that number of spots is extremely small compared to the number of people who want to use the park. The police keep visitors from parking on private property. I was never able to find a spot despite driving around for a long time and I could only see it from the gate. The limited parking prevents a lot of people from being able to use the park which is probably how the residents of this neighborhood like it. read more

Absolutely hidden and so easy to miss! Not to mention that once you do find it, parking is abysmal. There are a limited amount of spots and there's a police officer there, monitoring your every move. There are some spots nearby by Vizcaya, but good luck with those as well. Horrendous parking situation. I spent somewhere between half an hour and an hour trying to find a space. I really wish I had gone by Uber or Lyft. I showed up somewhere around noon and it was a madhouse. Unfortunately for me, I had gone to do kickboxing that very same morning and then to pick up supplies. It was a dear friend's birthday and the shindig was at this park. Lovely place, truly, and worth a visit certainly, but I warn you severely to not make my mistake. Go early or pay to get dropped off! All that said, everything at this park is first come and first serve. There are shelters and they have grills. My friends got there around 9:30 in the morning and somehow managed to get the last grill. The views are stunning and the weather complied, but the hassle of just getting to this park makes me question if and when I'll return. I just don't think it's worth my sanity. Probably a park best for people neighboring it. read more

What a find..would never have known about it unless I was told. So I came, and was so glad that I did. What a slice of heaven, calm, quiet, right in the ocean just to the side of the Ricken backer causeway..ssshhh, don't tell everyone!!! Plenty of areas to run around, a small children's Park area, a few seats and also picnic benches dotted around...plenty of shade aswell and dogs are also allowed. I've wandered into Wainwright a couple of times from when I lived in the Roads to recently when I want to say I'm doing something healthy (it's about a 2 mile roundtrip from the Vizcaya metrorail station.) As other reviews have indicated, it is definitely a change of pace from the hurry up, run and daleee lifestyle of Miami. There are a couple of picnic shelters, a nice grassy area for a picnic as well as a basketball court and kiddie play area. As far as natural cardio, there's also a limestone ridge you can do some climbing on. Located right on the bay and with a view of the Key Biscayne bridge, Wainwright Park would be so much better to have a kayak ramp or at least a ladder for those who want to be adventurous and swim the bay. It's also a pet friendly park, maybe I'll bring Luna next time. read more

This park is probably one of my favorite. I discovered it by accident and I'm so glad I did. It has an area for kids to play and an area for adults to e exercise. They also has a shelter that you can rent out for birthday celebrations. The view of the ocean is also so beautiful and soothing. The view of this park alone deserves 5 stars. I love bringing my son here when I'm in the area. The playground has baby and regular swings and two sets of slides/climbing centers. Great spot for almost everyone! They have spots to barbecue, it's kid friendly and has a playground and basketball court, and has a path to take a walk and a place near the back to workout. It's eco-friendly and has solar panel lights and plenty of space to run around. The only things I don't really like are it's really hard to find parking and the park itself has some litter and food under the tables. Looking for some spiritual yoga? Perhaps the force is on your side and you need to get in touch with your inner Jedi and there just so happens to be a few nearby. I can't guarantee you'll experience either of those two things during your visit here, but this is a nice, quaint little park. One of the things I like the most about this park, it has a lovely waterfront view of Key Biscayne. So, you can sit by the waters edge and just enjoy the view and watch the boats, jetskis and occasional kayakers go by. I haven't seen any sea life yet but that doesn't mean you won't get lucky! After all, I got spiritual yoga and Star Wars amateur filming all in one day so you'll never know what you'll get when you go. The park is fairly small, offering a few shelters for a group gathering and some benches situated towards the water. When you first enter, you're greeted with the basketball court and a small playground for the kids. Continue further and you'll go down hill a little to the rest of the park where it is more open and then turns shadier with some trees the further down you go. This park doesn't get too crowded since the location of it is kinda secluded. Unless you actually know it is there then you wouldn't go there. Which is actually kinda nice, simple little park with a decent view of the water that you can enjoy without any body getting too rowdy. I did notice a small work out area, don't get too excited. There were only a few items there but something is better than nothing if you want to work out in a bit of nature. Parking is not the best for this park. It has a few spaces out front and the rest of the strip is a no parking area. Considering the few times I've been here the parking spots have been pretty full but yet there is hardly anyone in the park. Hhmm, where are you going people? If you're not lucky enough to get a spot right in the front of the park, then you can park further down the street where there is street parking and just walk there. read more

Unless you're on foot or bike, you will easily pass by this place and miss it every single time driving by. Right in the heart of the city lies this tiny sliver of a park located directly on the water offering a green space amidst all the chaos of South Brickell and northern Coconut Grove. It's a brisk walk from the train station and totally worth your time if you dig nature surrounded by a bustling effervescent metropolis. No matter the weather, you'll usually find a soothing breeze to cure you of your swampy and humid climate that Miami seems to never grow out of. You'll see people with their dogs, couples taking a walk, or just an empty night with enough space to let your mind breathe for a bit. I like parks and this one is well-maintained. Alice Wainwright park is a small park that's fairly well hidden. You can either come here by car by turning off US1 near Vizcaya and driving back through a quiet little neighborhood (with some very nice homes), or if you're biking or on foot, there's also an access between the parking area for this park and the sidewalk that leads to the Rickenbacker Causeway. As some others mentioned, many of the parking spaces are full most times, especially early on the weekends as several groups of cyclists meet here before riding over to nearby Key Biscayne (come here nearly any time on the weekends and you're likely to see more than a few vehicles with empty bike racks on them). They have a fairly utilitarian set of restrooms and a water fountain near the main entrance to this park, a basketball court, a playground, lots of open space and several picnic benches, shelters and shaded grassy areas for picnicking or just relaxing, reading a book or taking in the beautiful scenery. As other reviewers have mentioned, the park itself and most shelters are right on the water (there is a retaining wall between the shelters and the bay, and a small drop between the retaining wall and the water, so you cannot swim here) and would be a great place to come with some friends or family to hang out, barbecue and toss a ball around for a while. Also, the last few times I've been here on the weekends, there were always some more quiet places to go if you're looking for a romantic spot to come for a picnic or to spend an afternoon. Nearly every time I've passed this place, there has been a marked police car with an officer near the entrance, so security is not a concern. Also, if you've not been here in a while, it should be noted that they've made some recent upgrades to the basketball court, the playground area (including the installation of rubber ground padding in case of falls), and an exercise and fitness area as well. - See the photos I've posted for this listing. Wainwright Park is another one of those hidden gems in our city. This one seems to be even lesser known than some others, as nearly every time I've been here, even on the weekends, it's never been overrun with people or had all the shelters filled. read more

Parking is a struggle but not impossible. The park has plenty of playgrounds, a basketball court and a view of the water thats to die for. There's shelters and grills as well! This park reflects the status of the neighborhood. It is as good as it gets paid by our high taxes. It has the best views and facilities. I live one block from the park and barely use it. The reason: the homeless. They have "appropriated" the park (tax free to them of course), and make us feel not safe, more so during Covid 19 pandemic. It is typical of the Brickell area. Homeless people have chosen to live in the best areas of Miami. Ocean front for free. They don't seem to like the "bad" areas. But, the park if you want to risk it, is beautiful. Be careful in certain areas of the park. read more

I love this park. It's right on the water. You can take your kids there to play an afternoon, take lunch and take in the ocean view. The only thing I don't like is parking can run out fast, and the last few times I've been there I have seen some homeless people in the park hanging out for long periods of time. And as a single mom it makes me a little cautious. When I go to a park it's to relax and unwind no can't do that when there are people walking around asking for money and food. I am not discriminating but I did not feel safe. read more

This park has been my refuge when feeling sad and confused, it's been the place I come to when in need of photographic inspiration and recently it has been where I come with my someone special when we need some time away from the hustle and bustle of the day to day. I have always parked here as a launching point for some of my runs. The parking is free, and the people in the parking area are almost all here to walk, run, or bike, and I have had countless conversations about distances, sports drinks, professional sports, where to go post work out for food, and a multitude of other random topics. Several other months ago I started to come to the actual park after my runs to just sit, relax, and enjoy the views. I find it calming and and restful. Perfect for a recovery, and peace of mind. This is the real "Bayfront Park" of Miami. It's a bit of an old Miami locals' secret in that I think that the entire city doesn't know about it. Even if more people were in the know, however, there's only so much parking available that doesn't require a lengthy walk - this effectively puts an unpublished limit on the number of people who can use this park on any given day. What's the five-star appeal of this park? Pretty simple - it's open space right on the bay, with plenty of sun if you want it, and plenty of shade too. Shelters are first-come, first-served, and again, most of them are about a free-throw away from the bay. Some of the adjacent grills are in questionable condition, and need to be replaced by the city of Miami - but even so, for small to mid-size gatherings, these shelters are about as good as it gets. It appears to me that this park also features one of the area's best basketball courts, which of course means it's almost always in use. The park is also right on the popular South Miami-to-Key Biscayne cycling route. With reasonably clean restrooms, it's also a major pit stop for cyclists. It's not perfect, but waterfront parks like it are all too rare in South Florida. It's one of the few little slices of bayfront *not* occupied by multimillion dollar homes. For that alone, it would deserve 5 stars. read more

How have I never been here before last week?! This park is laid back and completely amazing. It faces the water*, offers benches for sitting in front of the water, has a small section with trendy outdoor gym equipment, and has a large villa with barbecue stands for parties and get-togethers. It's an amazing park! My friend and I came here during New Year's Day, and it was a good area for reflection and quiet time. I would highly recommend anyone coming here if they are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Miami. The only negative I would say this park is that parking seemed to be limited. There is parking in front of the park, but not those many parking spaces compared to other parks in Miami. I, personally, didn't have any trouble finding parking, but if there is a large group here, you may have trouble. *Note: just because this place faces this water doesn't mean you can get in it (I am sure you can if you wanted to), but I am just saying that this place doesn't offer beach front amenities. read more

I love this park mostly because of its location and the free parking. Most mornings, this park is a meet-up spot for local runners and cyclists heading out through Key Biscayne, Brickell, and Coconut Grove. The park itself is ok. It has a basketball court, waterfountain, benches, and a truly wonderful view of Key Biscayne. The park is situated at the end of a cul-de-sac of mansions. At one point in time I think Madonna, Sylvester Stalone, and Rosie O'Donnel have all lived along this street. I'm not up on celebrity culture enough to know who populates the neighborhood now, but I do know that these are really nice houses. read more

Very nice park on the Bay .... It's hidden but very close to the Vizcaya entrance. The view of the bay is great, although the park could use a little sprucing up. The gate was only half open....not a very weloming sign plus the gate should be removed all together....definitely very trashy. Restrooms and the building up front could be replaced too. Also, those cheap benches that line the bay that say Miami...totally taking the focus away from the bay view....very tacky. I'm also doubt the basketball court is best for the neighborhood of high end homes.. But, the newly renovated kids play area is great....and the view is great. Pretty good little park in a nice neighborhood. Men's bathroom near entrance stank something fierce but everything else was nice. I was there for a birthday party and the covered tables were great for events. Nice spot for kids with the playground and the basketball court always had some groups playing hoops. All the reviews are right, it's a great place. We have been taking guests here in the mornings to give them an overview of the coastal system surrounding Miami. The Miami Oolite is also well exposed at this location. Great park to get a view of the Bay, to have fun with your kids (our kids love it), and to relax. But, the b-ball court is always busy, so it's hard to get some court time. The only downer is parking, lot's of people park here to run/cycle across the causeway, so parking for the park is always tight. read more

There's PLENTY of room to create more parking for the park north of the current parking, but parking isn't allowed along that street. The lack of parking during the day effectively means that you can only come here as a pedestrian or cyclist. Why not use this additional free space for street parking? :) read more
