Kendall Indian Hammock park stretches from 107 Avenue all the way to about 117 Avenue. That is about 10 blocks of trees, open fields, picnic areas, sporting areas, and more area that I can possibly uncover. It seems like every time I go there to meet friends, I get there through different entrances and find myself in a part of the park I did not know it existed. Typically I go there through 112 avenue to get to the soccer fields to watch my daughter's game. Other then that, through 107 Avenue, but on Saturday I got there from 117 and a little side street that I never knew existed, after nearly 30 years of living in Kendall: the 79 street. And there it was, the park, nearly perfect weather, open fields, picnic area, and we didn't have to drive around looking for a perfect spot or even a parking space. It felt as though the park was ours. Good luck finding a similar spot in Tropical Park. Overall, this park is a small get away area in the heart of Kendall. Next time you and your family need to go outdoors, you are sure to find a perfect spot in this park

Kendall Indian Hammocks park is a nice park to enjoy various activities. They have disk golf, a skate park, hiking trails, picnic tables, and much more. I would definitely recommend it as a hang out spots to come with friends and family.

Love the new renovated park, just wish there was more baby swings and more slides. They have the space for it so I'm surprised they didn't add more. They only have one of the rubber full bucket swings (which they should have at least 1 more of it) and 2 little slides. Also, I wish they had the other type of swing called Inclusive ADA Swing. A positive is that they have the basket looking saucer swing. My kids love that swing. The biggest plus the the rope climbing area. Overall, it is cute but expected more.

Kendall Indian Hammock Park At Kendall Indian Hammocks Park, wind your way through one of urban Miami's last stands of natural forest--a hardwood hammock known as the Snapper Creek Glade. So after reading this, I came today with my husband. This is huge park, with tennis courts, walkways, bike ways, and for me the appeal was the nature preserve. Have a look at my photographs to see what we saw. A great place. Listed below is more information that I found out about it, definitely worthy of visit for sure!! ________________________________ Sports lovers can take advantage of three lighted softball fields, a grassy soccer area, 36 holes of disc golf and a skate park, while nature aficionados can go birdwatching, wander down nature trails or explore the hardwood hammock and surrounding 32-acre nature preserve. If you want to exercise, head to the outdoor fitness zone - it has adjustable tension equipment for all ages and skill levels. There are also two family playgrounds, one for children five years of age and younger and another for children between the ages of five and 12. A major feature of the park is the 14,000-square-foot skate park, which was inspired by iconic outdoor spaces like Love Park in Philadelphia and the Embarcadero in San Francisco. The Kendall skate park has multiple ramps, a vertical wall and grinding rails with obstacles designed for all levels of skaters. Shaded bleachers at the skate park provide a spot where curious onlookers can watch all the action. Want to host a BBQ surrounded by the beauty of the park? There are five covered picnic shelters and one live oak-canopied picnic deck, each of which accommodates up to 100 people. All picnic areas come with at least nine tables, water, electricity and BBQ grills. They can be reserved on a first come, first served basis.

I came out to this park looking for a hike and I was not disappointed. At Kendall Indian Hammocks Park, you can traverse through one of Miami's last stands of natural forest, a 32 acre hardwood hammock known as the Snapper Creek Glade. This habitat is rare and there are less than 12,000 acres left in Miami of which 500 acres are protected in parks and preserves. It is made up of a shade forest with a canopy of hardwood trees. The park takes it's name from the Tequesta Native Americans who used these hardwood hammocks for hunting and fishing camps before heading into the Everglades. The 1.5 mile trail through the preserve is natural earth and it was opened in 2013. Volunteers and high school students worked to restore the trail and remove the inaccessible parts. That was a while ago and so today at times you may have to climb over or under fallen trees. This natural area is great place to bird watch and get away from the urban Miami for a few moments. Guarding the entrance to the trail was a number of stray cats and racoons. Strangely it seemed like the two factions got along great. It looks like people come out and leave food for them. In February of last year a man killed one of the cats in the park with his bare hands. Fortunately he was was arrested. No wonder they are so wary of strangers. People can be so cruel. You see so many stray cats at all of the parks in Miami. People need to spay and neuter their pets. Besides the preserve, Kendall Indian Hammocks Park is well known for it's 18 hole disc golf course at the eastern end of the park. You use a frisbee or disc and aim for hole in a chain basket that is suspended on a post. It is free to use the course but you have to bring your own equipment. Other park amenities include tennis courts, paved walkways, three lighted softball fields, a playground, a 14,000 square foot skatepark added in 2011, restrooms, and picnic shelters. There is a lot to enjoy at this great park. Fun fact, there are bodies buried here. There is a fenced acre of unmarked graves in a corner of the park. The area on the west side of the park was used as a potters field by the Miami Dade County Medical Examiners Office to dispose of and bury unclaimed bodies.

    Nice park, very big!

After picking up some yummy They food from the Cuban Cuisine restaurant. My wife and I decided to stop for an impromptu picnic. We choose Indian Hammock Park. It's a very large part with lots of trails. Lots of Kid activities too. We were just looking for a picnic bench, unfortunately they were all turned upside down inside the shelters. I'm guessing because of Covid. We found ourselves a regular bench had our picnic anyway. It was a nice morning so we did enjoy ourselves but, I believe it's a great part It's just not up to full status due to Covid restrictions. We are definitely going to go on more picnics explore more parks, we'll see how that goes.

I came here recently with Nate M. to play a round of Frisbee Golf and thoroughly enjoyed myself Frisbee Golf is a sport that anyone can do but not everyone can really well No matter what your skill set, fun can be had And if that doesn't entice you sloths enough, you can drink beer while doing it Serious, you can drink as long as you're in the designated picnic areas which pretty much means the whole park Do bring more than one frisbee 'cause it is highly likely that you will lose one or two if you are not careful Other things that you have to be careful about? Nate M. and his bag full of professional grade frisbees(he's a hustler and you will end up owing him a beer), guys with ponytails and cargo shorts, poison ivy, random statuettes, squirrels and other people trying to have a good time Not only did the frisbeeing prove to be tons of fun but it afforded me the opportunity to take a needed nature walk I love parks and while Hammocks doesn't offer a ton of bells and whistles, the amenities that do have are top notch A 36-hole Disc Golf course, which consists of 18 holes in K1 and 18 holes in K2. A 120' x 120' skate court features a variety of ramps, jumps and grinding rails for skaters of different skill levels, and also features shaded bleachers for spectators. The skate court is operated by the skateboard management group Sugars Drop Shop, which also operates skateboard facilities at Westwind Lakes and Country Village Parks. Open at 1:00 p.m., weekdays; 10 a.m., Saturdays; 11:00 a.m., Sundays/holidays; and closes daily at sundown. The cost to skate is $2 weekdays and $5 on weekends/holidays. The facility offers skateboard and helmet rentals, as well as lessons for beginners. For details contact Sugars Drop Shop at 786-537-2016. Kendall Indian Hammocks Action Sports Plaza The Indian Hammocks Action Sports Plaza is a 14,000 square foot out door concrete plaza. Inspired by iconic skateboarding meccas such as Love Park in Philadelphia and the Embarcadero in San Francisco, The plaza not only recreates the types of features skaters are already riding "in the streets" with several different sized rail, stairs, launch ramp and hubba combinations but also features a few of classic skate park features like the bank ramp, vert wall and a new rendition of the miniramp. The park is well lit for night sessions and is open 365 days a year, weather permitting. Skateboards, inline skates, BMX and scooters are all permitted. Helmets are mandatory for all park patrons under the age of 18 and can be rented for $2 at the proshop. Sugars Drop Shop is a full service skate shop located at the Indian Hammocks Action Sports Plaza. We offer a variety of tried and true quality skateboard products at reduced prices. We are staffed by friendly, knowledgeable skaters who know their product and are there to help out with repairs, questions or trick tips. I played a round of Frisbee golf this weekend at this park. My favorite frisbee golf course in the Miami area. We saw raccoons that were munching on cat food that was left out. People remember... A fed raccoon is a dead raccoon. The frisbee golf game was close between myself and my frisbee golf nemesis Lets just call him FD... Could stand for a lots of things ;) but for now I will go with frisbee dude. However, about half was through the game my blood sugar plummeted and FD gained the lead.... I caved to his jeers and lost a point almost every basket after that. If low blood sugar and constant trash talk from my nemesis wasn't enough I was battling sickness, somewhat dehydrated, ummmm started getting gang-green, and probably Ebola. Not to mention I fought off a gang of ninjas the night before...Yes FD beat me by a kind of small margin... ;) Don't worry next rematch I will be on my game and FD will be out at treetown and chokeville! See you out there nemesis!

It was established in 1896 and began with a pavilion and green space used for sports activities. The park was also used for political and religious gatherings near the railroad tracks and tidal marshes. In 1922, the city constructed a retaining wall to create a formal park. Warren Manning, who had worked for Frederick Law Olmsted Sr., was commissioned for the design. The 62-acre park officially opened in March 1925 and included pathways, tropical landscaping, and a wide pedestrian promenade that extended from East Flagler Street to the bay. The 1926 hurricane destroyed much of the park. A year later, the city installed a bandshell, a grotto, and a rock garden on the waterfront. During World War II, the U.S. Navy took over the park and used it as part of its critical operations in the area. In 1943, the Navy installed the Dade County War Memorial. The military returned the park to the city in 1950, but it was in a battered state. The city built a library that blocked the view of the bay, and the following two decades saw little investment in the park. In 1980, the City of Miami approved a budget of $10 million to redesign the park. Famous Japanese-American modernist artist and landscape architect Isamu Noguchi was chosen for the task. His inspiration was to create a village green for downtown Miami. He convinced the city to remove the R.C. Gardner Bandshell, which had fallen into disrepair, as well as the library, and to restore Manning's pedestrian promenade. His plan also called for adding new amphitheaters and a large fountain at the end of a promenade flowing from East Flagler Street. The busts and statues of Hispanic leaders were relocated to an area outside the park. Eventually, the project ballooned to more than $40 million, much of it paid for through grants. Noguchi passed away during the construction of the park, but the torch was passed to his longtime collaborator, Shoji Sadao, who carried out his plans and vision. Today, Bayfront Park is maintained by the Bayfront Park Management Trust, a limited agency of the City of Miami. It is smaller than when it originally opened and currently encompasses 32 acres. A highlight of the park is its stunning views of Biscayne Bay. The park is also a culturally important outdoor museum, with art and monuments that add beauty and historical perspective. The Dade County War Memorial was restored in the 1990s, and there are statues honoring Claude D. Pepper and Julia Tuttle, the "Mother of Miami." The park still contains all of the major elements of the Noguchi plan, including the centerpiece fountain, although it is currently closed for repairs. It also features the Lee and Tina Hills Playground, open lawn spaces, a sandy beach area, the tropical rock garden, and the historic waterfall from 1926. A visit to downtown Miami would not be complete without a stop at Bayfront Park. The park is within walking distance of attractions such as the Freedom Tower, Bayside Marketplace, Kaseya Center, Museum Park, and numerous restaurants and entertainment venues. If there is a downside, it is that parking in downtown Miami is scarce and expensive. I have attended many outdoor concerts here through the years, and it is also the site of the popular Ultra Music Festival every March. In June, the park will host the FIFA Fan Festival when Miami welcomes the World Cup. A recent visit found me admiring the many sculptures throughout the park. Bayfront Park is still evolving, and future plans call for new lighting, a café, and additional redesign elements. Known as "Miami's Front Porch," it remains a vital outdoor oasis of green space for residents of the surrounding towers and visitors to the city alike.
