Amazing food, all the workers are extremely nice, and the little seating area is amazing.

This is no ordinary grocery store - it's an entire sensory experience. Also, a huge thank you to the worker who mentioned that he had taken a course on pasta. My pasta dish was a huge hit with guests thanks to his product recommendations. I look forward to returning soon. read more

This place has great Italian groceries and food. Here are some of the things that you can get: - a meatball sandwich (this is really good - nice bread, tomato sauce that tastes like tomatoes, and tender, flavourful meatballs); - outstanding baguettes, with a boldly baked crust (apparently from a different bakery) - various spices in charming little jars - fresh pasta, both to take home to cook (as in grocery) or prepared (as in cacio e pepe) - canned goods - various foods to go, or eat in and have a glass of wine - tomatoes imported from Italy, as well as vinegars, olive oil and much much more! I visited this Alimentari because, over the holidays, a friend gave me some sweets with the label Antica Torroneria Piemontese. Now, I do not have much of a sweet tooth, but these sweets are so amazing! Aromatic, nutty, flavourful. These were supplied by the Alimentari. The prices have been the focus of some criticism from other Yelpers, but really, think of what you are getting! Excellently prepared, traditional Italian food. They do not cut corners on providing food cooked according to traditional recipes, careful preparation and quality ingredients. This skill and care is reflected in the cost. Try buying your own imported ingredients and making the same thing ... you'll be surprised at how inexpensive the Alimentari is, given what you are getting. I view the Alimentari as a place for a special treat, as opposed to a regular event. And everything that I have had or bought from there, so far, has exceeded expectations. read more

A small "grocery" and "restaurant." While they do not serve fresh produce, they have prepared foods, such as pastas, sauces, salads, meats and dried pasta, oils etc. (Tip: There are seats at the back, past the kitchen, however, I enjoyed sitting at the front to people watch). Ordered: 1. Pasta special. Which starts at $8, added $2 for pesto (delicious) sauce and I believe added $2 for gluten free pasta? While slightly pricey (maybe I'm just cheap lol), the pasta was delicious. The gluten free pasta didn't taste weird and it was cooked well, with a good chew to it. I believe, the Italians say "al dente." The pesto is delicious. So delicious that I bought some to go. Also, if you order a pasta, it comes with some bread. On that day, it was a house made rosemary focaccia. Very tasty and well made. The interior was soft and fluffy and the I could taste the rosemary. 2. Porchetta: While it wasn't freshly made, the kitchen reheated it in the oven and the skin was super super crispy. The pork was flavourful and fatty; the condiments were tasty too. Might be cheaper (maybe I'm just cheap lol) to order a porchetta sandwich. The thin piece was about $5. While they do bring your order to you, you order at the cashier, seat yourself and then pay at the cashier - didn't see an option to tip. I would definitely come back here for the pasta. read more

I've stopped by here for lunch a few times and they have a pretty good selection of pastas and sandwhiches. The pastas are a little fancy for a regular lunch, but the sandwhiches are $10 and the perfect size. My favourite has to be the meatball sandwhich, it's tasty and simple with just a few meatballs between fresh focaccia bread. read more

I'm not sure how someone mentioned reasonable priced or maybe it was the "special" that was on sale for pasta.... I heard about them through instagram and I am on a quest (ever since Italy) for the best pasta in Toronto or something similar to that in Italy. I came in to try their simple bolognese and meatballs and spaghetti. I ordered it to go so I didnt dine in. They put it in those large recycled take out containers and the amount they gave was so small - maybe enough to fit less than 1 cup. Okay whatever, I just wanted to taste it. Go to pay...... and its over 21$. huh. I left feeling jipped. Ripped off. Went home grumbling, opened it up looking at the tinsy amount sitting there in the take out container, thinking whatever, no way am I going back, for this tiny bit of just spaghetti, tomato sauce and meatballs and not even getting to dine in - forget it, not going back not worth it!! Until I tasted it. Darn you expensive Alimentari place!! Darn you! Darn you for your delicious pasta. Make me part from my hard earned money like that! And I'd probably do it again because it was that good. I can't wait to bring my bf there to try. Maybe just once more. I have a thing for consistency of a good thing..... so I can't wait. We came back to walk up Roncy almost 40 years after we first moved into this neighborhood- it has changed and this spot is a great example of how good it can be. First impression in the door is a European grocery store with lots of interesting ingredients. Super helpful and friendly staff. Our timing was right and the menu board enticed us to stay for lunch. Good decision! The hot meatball sandwich had lots of real tomato sauce - the real stuff - and tasty meatballs. The Casarecce pasta with sausage and rapini was perfectly prepared and mixed with top quality hard cheese. Excellent. We sat at a small table in the front window and there was more seating at the back. Prepared sandwiches and other takeaway items were available. The handmade pasta looks amazing. Food is amazing, Got to talk to the chef for a little while and he was very nice. It's only been opened for a little while but I'm blown away by how good the food was, I recommend trying the spaghetti its so good! Alimentari simply offers very good Italian food without pretense. Their fresh pasta is a staple for us. Their prepared salads are delicious as are the focaccia and porchetta. Every time we have sat there for a meal, we have had delicious dishes made with care and simplicty. There is a passion here for Italian food at its best. My partner and I saw something nice and while waiting in a long line to order, he went to use the washroom. The owner made a loud comment in front of many customers, "people think they can just use the washroom during Polish fest." I was shocked. When I finally got to the cash, I tried to politely tell her why I changed my mind about purchasing something. She became defensive saying Polish fest drives her crazy and how it's not good for her business and did not truly apologize, insincerely saying sorry I was offended. While I believe small business should be supported, I understand why some would choose not to support some who don't care about potential customers or their public image. read more

Wonderful selection of Italian goodies including hard to find balsamic vinegars and specialty goods. There's also fresh pasta and sandwiches and a small wine selection if you're looking to grab a bite there. Overall a great shop with very friendly staff. read more

The focaccia is really good as is the rest of their prepared dishes. Usually drop by to grab buffalo ricotta or fior di latte. They carry a nice selection of specialty groceries (but it's a little expensive). Nice staff. read more

A tad expensive, yes. But really "gourmet". Love their meatballs - ONE per person is plenty! Have now bought their home-made food about 4 times and not been disappointed yet. I'd now bring home food from Alimentary for a special occasion (too expensive for "daily") read more
