The kitchen was closed when we visited here -
But they did have premades available.
All signs are that this is a first rate kitchen.
a) There are newspaper articles praising them for being one of the best restaurants on the Roman coast.
b) Their cold premade zucchini with mint and lemon was knock-your-socks-off.
We have had vast amounts of good zucchini in Rome.
The zucchini in the glass case of L'Alimentari was the best of all.
You can guess what high quality natural zucchini, and Rome's outstanding fresh lemons could do with each other.
You can guess that fresh mint is a perfect flavor to put with those two.
The surprise kicker is that the zucchini is beautifully charred.
So you get the taste of the grill along with the taste of the other flavors.
I was in love.

There are several other restaurants in Ostia.
We saw a few that were packed with locals ... which is usually a good sign.
Ostia also has an old town with a castle, the archaelogical park and the equally beautiful non-archaelogical parks.
You could conceivably make a day of getting two meals in Ostia while entertaining yourself perfectly well between lunch and dinner.
(Or you could go to the beach between lunch and dinner. The beach is literally the next stop on the train.)

I wish I could be more specific about L'Alimentari.
But I strongly suspect your lunch table would justify the trip. read more
