I've been to Montreal many times, and have walked around where this shop is, but never actually noticed Candylabs. I only discovered them when my brother and sister-in-law got me 2 packs of candies from them as part of my Christmas present. The candies they got me were so cute. They were shaped like little sushi rolls and even came with mini chopsticks, lol. The ones that looked like Futomaki were strawberry-kiwi flavour. The ones that looked like Salmon Maki were grapefruit flavoured. The candies were crunchy and really tasty! And so cute! In addition to their bricks and mortar store in Montreal, they sell their candies online as well, which is how my brother and sister-in-law bought them. I went to their website, and the candies are a bit pricey, like the sushi candy bags are $6.99 each. However, they are handmade and they source most of their ingredients from Canadian suppliers. Apparently they also make custom candies. Which I imagine would be great promotional materials for companies and also the cutest wedding favours for couples getting married. Looking forward to a time when I can go back to Montreal and go to the bricks and mortar store and check out their candies.

The store is very colourful and inviting. The staff is really nice and they give lots of demonstrations. They will let you have a sample of you aren't sure which flavour you want. My personal favourite is peach. I think it's sweet and tasty. It's a great spot to get a cute candy gift for someone or a treat for yourself.

I thought I smelled Belgian waffles so we entered with anticipation. While there were no waffles to be found, we did see shelves upon shelves of maple syrup. And maple cookies. And maple butter. And finally at the back, some maple-enhanced desserts. We had the maple bars (think maple-flavored sugar tarts with shortbread crust) and maple-topped croissants. Double jackpot. The sales associate was friendly and funny. He made great recommendations - get the maple bars! - so we ate our snacks happily. The shop also included a fairly large area for coffee and conversation.

We followed the smell and ended up at Delices Erable & Cie. We walked in and we found items sold here from souvenir treats like Canadian Maple Syrup, Maple Cookies to Gelato. We walked to the end of the store and decided to grab gelato. I got pistachio and hazelnut flavor on a waffle cone and B got 2 scoop of raspberry on a waffle cone. The gelato was delicious. I liked the waffle cone. You can tell that it was freshly made on the day. Too bad I wasn't hungry or else I would have gotten a croissant as well. That looked and smelled so good as well. Luckily the place wasn't too busy when we came so we didn't have to wait too long. It was nice to have gelato on a hot hot day. Note that their gelato flavor do change quite often. We left satisfied.

From the outside, the shop is easy to miss, but step inside and you'll find a beautifully designed space with pastries that look just as elegant as the setting. Their flagship item is the éclair, though they also offer chocolate bars, tarts, and other finely crafted pastries. The young woman working during my visit was warm and welcoming--she spoke both English and French, which made ordering easy--and she happily answered our questions about ingredients and flavors. I chose a lavender tart, which was as delicious as it was striking in presentation--perfectly balanced in sweetness with a wonderful texture. Most pastries, including éclairs, are around $7 CAD each. While slightly on the higher end, the quality and artistry more than justify the price. A few small tables inside make it easy to sit and enjoy your pastry on the spot. If you're exploring Mont-Royal Avenue and craving something refined and memorable, Mont Eclair is well worth the stop.
