Gem of a library since the remodel! Very well organized and clean! Super easy to find all the books I was looking for -- and even books i wasn't looking for. I left with quite a stack! They had a great "recommended" table at the front. They were also promoting two books clubs that they have through the library; I'll definitely want to take a closer look at those in the future. The Aliso Viejo Library itself is absolutely amazing. The location is great, the remodel turned out beautiful, and the events and programs they offer are fantastic. My kids love coming here, and the space is welcoming, clean, and well designed. The only downside has been the staff behind the counter. Almost every time I've asked for help finding a book, the answer is something vague like, "It's in the fiction aisle." Well, there are multiple rows of fiction books, so that's not very helpful. I've never had this experience at the Laguna Beach or Laguna Niguel libraries, where staff usually go out of their way to help. There was one lady here who was exceptionally helpful and kind, and I wish I knew her name so I could recognize her. Unfortunately, most of the other staff seem very low energy and disengaged. When you're working in a library, especially one that serves so many families and children, enthusiasm matters. A warm, energetic librarian can help spark a child's interest in books and reading, and that's something this library could really use more of. The library itself deserves five stars, but the customer service experience has been disappointing. read more

I've lived in the area for years and have never been able to visit this library since it's been closed for renovation for so long. It finally opened a few days ago. It's clean, modern, and spacious. Clean, spacious, quiet are the words I would use to describe my experience at Aliso Viejo Library. They have a selection of DVD's to check out and computers to use for an hour a day. They even have printing services. They have kids activities on occastions The staff is friendly and polite. The book selection is what it is but I often come for just a quiet place to study and write or check out a DVD. They also have some beautiful displays on occasions and seasons. read more

The Friends of the Library here has a nice selection, but some of the rows has a weird smell to them - I think it's because of the placement of the bathrooms. As with a lot of the other FoLs, books are cheap and organized well. No vinyls here when I went, but they also had a nice selection of DVDs and CDs in addition to books. read more

I wanted to love this library so badly!!! Unfortunately, I do not. I came to get a library card and called first to make sure I didn't need to bring any special documents with me. The woman on the phone said I could fill out my information online and it would go to the library and they could print me out a card. I get to the library and apparently that's not the case. I had to wait for 10 minutes for a guy who looked like he was on some sort of narcotic to saunter over to me, the lone human being standing at the information desk. He had no idea about the information from the computer getting transferred over and said it takes 72 hours to get the information. I had to fill out even more information before I could get a library card. After that fiasco was over I asked where the travel books were. The guy looked at me like I was the stupidest person in the whole world and explained that the library books are organized by the Dewey decimal system. I had to request him to show me where they were. I'm sorry that I haven't been to a library recently. That's the whole reason I needed a library card! Needless to say, I will not be back. read more

The staff here is very friendly and is always ready to help me when I need to find a book. The library is clean and has an abundance of places to study. The only downside of this location is that it's pretty hot inside. I'm not sure if they have no a/c going or if it's set higher, but the overall temperature inside makes the library feel stuffy to me. read more

Okay, I gotta give this place five stars. This is a great place to come to study. The Neighborhood Cup is attached for your coffee fix. It is relatively quiet. It has a little courtyard thing. It has a little used book shop. It has pretty much everything you would want in a library. Also, I have to say I have some appreciation for the architecture, the ample parking lot, and the prime location right on the corner. The people who were building this library weren't like, "Let's hide this over here where no one will see it and it will be out of the way." No, they were like, "We're buildin' a muffukkin' library and we gon build it right here, RIGHT HERE GODDAMMIT." Yes, I will swear in a review of a public library. That is how I roll. Also, got to give a shout-out to the whole OC Public Library system. They have a decent collection which you can browse on-line, request, and then go pick it up at a convenient location. This is my favourite public library to get some work done. As far as libraries go, this one isn't very quiet but they do have a quiet reading room (10 person capacity). There's plenty of desks and outlets for my MacBook and phone to charge. If you need a break, they have a small courtyard just outside. They also have clean restrooms and a mini book sale. You can grab some books and magazines they no longer want for free. Best part about this library is that it's so close to the Pacific coast. I like to start my day off at the beach and then go here all motivated to do homework / write papers. The Neighborhood Cup cafe is adjacent to the library if you need caffeine in your system. read more

I came to the Aliso Viejo Library to have a meeting in the giant conference room. The library probably holds many events here where many clubs and groups meet in this room once a month. I also managed to walk through the library....it seemed easy to navigate and find everything I would be interested in. I was pleasantly surprised a working coffee shop. Although I did not buy anything from this coffee shop, I was able to walk and see the different coffees, drinks, snacks, and pastries for this shop. This is an impressive library, but what gets me, is there is no FREE internet connection for my laptop that I could find.....BOOO.....one star deduction. Four Yelp Stars. =) read more

It's a good neighborhood library. It's a library, okay? It comes with lots of books. It's got free wifi. It's got an outdoor courtyard with chairs and tables. It's got a coffee house next door (The Neighborhood Cup). What's extra is the DVDs and CDs (and VHS videos) that you can check out. But that's not unique to this library; I think you can get that at any Orange County Public Library. read more

This is thee nicest library I've ever been too. Not the largest (NYC library), not the prettiest (Paris library), BUT, it's the coolest, cleanest, and most comfortable library I've been too and I'm very glad I live so close to it. There's a cafe next door which is great. Good coffee, fast wifi, delicious baked goods. The chef is quite talented. This library always has room in it as well. There's more than enough computers to use with fast internet a and Microsoft office on each of them. The library even features a circular fire pit to sit around and read your book! Very relaxing! There's an outdoor area too, which is very clean and spacious, with good views. To top it off, there's an actual book shop with $0.25 books and CD's-with stuff you'd actually want to read! LOVE IT. It's very clean and comfortable and I wish I had more time to kick it there. I'm so happy I live nearby. read more

The Orange County Public Library system kicks @$$! You can go online and order any book from any library in Orange County you want for .25 cents, they will deliver it to your local branch if not already there, then alert you when it's available, and you pick it up. You can also renew it multiple times online if you need to. So simple. read more

There are actually closer libraries to where I live (Laguna Woods), but this is the one I go to, because I love it so much. It's huge, and the children's and teen sections are perfect. (I love me some YA fiction.) I usually don't have a whole lot of time to spend inside the library, so I place holds on the books I want ahead of time and come in to pick them up when they're ready. Of course, the librarians are always friendly, knowledgable, and willing to help. And the little attached bookstore is fantastic! There's even a little "free books" section. And a cafe! I can't say enough good things about this place. read more

On the plus side, the library is a welcoming, comfortable place to visit. The staff I interacted with were all reasonably friendly. In the interest of full disclosure, I didn't try the coffee or check out a book, but I did use the "adult internet stations," because my wireless network at home has been acting up. This is where the library earns its low marks. My phone is faster than the computer I used, and I was only visiting Google docs. Apparently the library offers free WiFi, but I don't have a laptop so that was not an option for me. All in all, I was satisfied with the atmosphere (minus a few loud children), but sorely disappointed by the computers. 3 stars on a generous day (but 2.5 at best on most others). read more

I only come to this library because it is conveniently close to my home. The children's section is very nice (I'm told). Kids will probably like it here. Older folks however will not like that there aren't that many tables/chairs to study/read at. I noticed the patrons here don't have manners. There was some dude that had no qualms about answering his loud ring tone ringing cell phone and then speaking at full volume, "Yeah Margaret. I'm at the library. I'll be home sooooon...." I think there are also escapees from the local mental institution that think it is OK to borrow a French movie from the library and then immediately proceed to watch it at full volume on their laptop, all the while speaking along with it. The only other upshot is there is wi-fi access here. They seem to block all ports except port 80 (http). My attempts at using my email client here failed. read more

For someone who comes here everyday this library gets a 4 star rating. It's not really quiet (actually it's pretty noisy for a library) which is ideal for me since I can't study in really quiet environments (freaks me out), great wifi connection, but it gets a one star deduction because it doesn't really have a lot of books. It is quiet a small library and I do look for hard-to-find books but most of the books I need are either lent out or at another library. There's also a cute little cafeteria right next to it, that's quiet helpful for those long studying days, and tons of community activities over the summer that I take my brothers to. This library is situated pretty near my house so if I'm looking to walk to someplace near I can go to the library (takes around 1 hour). There's lots of outdoor patios to sit if you're looking for some fresh air. All-in-all it's the perfect place. read more

I love this library! We go here all of the time, a great cheap way to pass time with the kids. The friends of the library store is huge. The staff in their is always friendly. I agree that some of the staff Librarians are a bit unfriendly, but I have never observed that this was the highest people-skill career choice, so I take that in stride. read more

I dropped by here after getting a Live Scan done just up the street. The layout is a little odd at first. I was looking for some volumes of Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" that I'd yet to read, and the graphic novels are shelved on a cart and a couple of shelves in the back of the library, in alphabetical order by title, which was a little confusing at first. The thing that stands out most to me about this library is the patio seating areas. There is also a firepit in the adult reading area near the new books. As someone who appreciates being able to sit outdoors while reading and studying, this set-up is ideal! There's also a cafe next door to the library, which is great if you are camping out for a while. I just wish it were closer. Also, there are signs in the parking lot which say that there is a limit of two hours for library patrons. What if you want to stay longer?? read more

The Aliso Viejo Library is part of the OC Library system. I am able to check out books, videos, and use the computers with the OC Library card that I opened back in one of the Irvine Library branches. I don't check out as many books as I used to (thanks to e-Books), but I do come here on occasion to pay for printing. I don't own a printer and I normally print stuff at work, but when I was unemployed, I'd come to AV Library to print copies of my resume. Recently, I came to print out some UPS labels for some of my Amazon returns. Printing is a whopping $0.15 per page which isn't bad if you think about it. You can preload your library card with printing money with a credit card or cash. I probably spend less than $3 per year printing since most things I can do are paperless. I used to come to the Friends of the Aliso Viejo bookstore all the time to pick up books for cheap. Now and again, I'll peruse the shelves for a new book to read. I do miss the smell of books though. The staff is friendly. There is free internet. You can borrow a computer for an hour with your library card and sit in free air conditioning. Our taxes pay for facilities like this, so go to the library! read more

Outstanding Christmas event today at the library. Activities were well thought out and staff was spectacular, friendly, and engaging. Kids from toddlers to teens had a blast. My son met and took pics with Santa, brought home a stuffed animal he made from the build a bear (buddy) workshop, a book, a painted ornament, snowball at no cost; and he was wiped out. Had so much fun with his buddies from school. Great day and great planning on the library's part. We have an amazingly tight knit, clean and caring community here in Aliso. So proud to be a resident. A large, expansive library that still looks and feels new even though it's been around for a better part of a decade. The library isn't fancy, just practical. The staff at the information desk are amiable and amenable when it comes to directing you towards the right wing of the building. I love the outdoor seating areas for those looking for a bit of a breeze and some sunshine while reading a good book. There is also an independent coffee and tea bar next door that also serves delicious pastries. The only complaint I have is the children's section which I think needs more aesthetically pleasing posters and colors that looks inviting for young ambitious readers. read more

I think perhaps Tim C's review helps explain the experience I had. I am quiet in a library, but don't we all have to put up with irritations now and then? Keeping the riff raff out of the library in Aliso Viejo I like to drive, so I've taken advantage of all the opportunities that have come my way to drive the length of California and Oregon. (I plan to set out eastward as soon as possible.) I've stopped in libraries in small and large towns in both states, and always was given an opportunity to use a computer. Until today. I came to Aliso Viejo library, and asked to use a computer. "Sure," the librarian said. "Right over there." That was easy, I thought. Usually you have sign something. So I sat down and was faced with a computer screen that asked for my library card number. I looked for the "guest" option, but there wasn't any. "Do you have to have a library card to use the computer?" I asked the librarian. She was a real sweet-looking young woman, pretty, with a neat brown pageboy haircut. She smiled at me. "Yes," she said, but all you need is photo ID and proof of address to get one." I don't have proof of address because I live in San Diego. "You don't allow people without library cards to use the computers?" I asked. "No," she said. I was appalled. What's going on in this place? I had already begun to suspect that Aliso Viejo is hostile to people who don't live here. I learned, when I was staying at an acquaintance's home, that they tow cars at night even though the cars are parked in perfectly legal places. I guess they figure that most people who pay to get their cars out of impound will then go home and never come back. I, however, came back, and filed a petition to get a refund for my impound fees. I took photos of my parking space, proving that it was legal, and asked that the Sheriff of Orange County provide the video taken by the deputy who towed my car. I got a refund a few days later. I'll bet Aliso Viejo gets some services and perhaps funds from Orange County and California and the federal government--so why do they think they can act like the whole town is private property? I asked the librarian, "May I speak to the manager of the library?" The librarian paused. Finally she said, "You can go over to the information desk and get a temporary computer pass." The lady at the information desk got me set up at a computer in no time flat. I asked her, "Why did the librarian lie to me? I had to ask to see the manager before I found out that guests can use the computers." She said, "We do try to discourage people who don't have library cards." "You sure do," I said. read more

This library is high on my list of to go to libraries. I love this library! It gets busy, but not as busy as the Missino Viejo library. It is a decent sized library that has an atrium for outside studying. There is also a conference room where they host events such as childrens reading. Definitely worth a trip to!!! Parking and Wifi are included, there is a decent amount of parking. There is also a small little Cafe by the library (basically attached to it but a separate entity) they serve great lunch food ($ and a half). read more

As libraries go, this isn't the best my any means, but it is decent. I did go here frequently when our wifi was down a while back, since you can use the internet for free for 1 hour a day. The movie selection is pretty good as far as classic stuff goes - sometimes you get lucky. I've always found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. When the last Harry Potter book came out I put my name on the waiting list and received an email when it had arrived on hold for me, but I think most libraries do that now. I still haven't made my way over to the Neighborhood Cup, which is a nice feature of this library. read more
