The San Juan Capistrano library is one of 33 libraries in the Orange County library system. It is located near the Los Rios historic district. Walking in you are met by librarians who are very friendly and helpful. The layout of the library is kind of segmented with a lot of little "nooks." The fireplace area seems especially cozy.  I like that they have dedicated one side of the building to showcase artwork.  But the courtyard is what truly draws my attention. The lawn out there is nicely  manicured and the water fountain really adds to the serenity of the setting. This is such a quaint place to visit, relax and enjoy a good read.

I truly love this library, it's a beautiful piece of architecture in a small town, what's not to love? Designed in the New Classical style of architecture every detail has been well thought out. The building's architect is Michael Graves (really one of our generation's starchitects), you will probably recognize his work since he designed many pieces for Alessi and Target years ago. The WiFi is not great, but it seems to be an issue all over San Juan Capistrano. Additionally the staff did not seem to be particularly friendly or helpful when trying to discuss the building they are working in. I would have hoped they would be better stewards of this beautiful building.

'Came across this quaint little library one day while I was looking for a book via the OC Public Library System one day and found it shelved here... At first glance, it looks like it looks like a basic, missionary style building and nothing more, very non-descipt. The front of the library faces a side street and not on El Camino Real. Since there is very little signage on the outside, it isn't instantly recognizable as the library. I drove right by it the first time I came here. Also, it does not have its own dedicated parking lot, street parking. Small, intimate, setting, with a fair book selection. The inside seating appeared to be a bit limited. It does have a nice courtyard area but all of the double doors accessing it are closed off but one. *The library's design by postmodern architect Michael Graves attracts many visitors. The staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions I had. They also have sections of Spanish material for children and adults along with language programs. The library has a late 70's feel to it. There's residential housing across the street, perfect walking distance, and there always seems to be a a dozen or so people in and around the library. They have a few internet stations and wi-fi as well. It isn't as streamlined or modern as some of the newer/larger libraries but I think it works great for the area. Library Hours: Monday: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday - Closed Saturday: 10:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. Sunday: Noon to 5:00 p.m. - Aloha Food: n/a Ambiance: 3 Service: 3 Value: 5

Once you enter the building you must go upstairs (or take an elevator) to get to the library (otherwise you end up inside the school). This library is one of the smaller branches I've been to and the layout was initially a bit confusing to me. But I soon found the adult non-fiction section and located the specific book I was after. I didn't spot any self-checkout stations so went to the front desk where a pleasant gentleman took care of things and sent me on my way. I'm rarely in this area so doubtful I'll be back and instead will take care of the book's return via the OC Library's sytem where one can return a book to any branch and it will be transported to the correct location.

Once you're through the first doors to get into the library, there's a US flag drop off box for tattered flags to be disposed of. There's a voter ballot drop off box next to the library. There's plenty of parking in the lot on a weekend morning. I walked in here looking lost and the librarian at the circulation desk immediately clocked it. She helped me find the self print area. The cost to print is 0.15 per page. Printing was quick. I forgot my PIN for my library card but I was able to update it quickly so I could add funds to pay for the label I was printing. The stairs had some rubbish probably from the students who come through here. The library is a little small but I didn't spend too much time to get to peruse all their selections.

I could have had it sent to a library closer to me but I knew I'd eventually be in the area so I stopped here while running errands one day. It's located at the civic center where there is plenty of parking. The library is small but seemed to have plenty of places for patrons to sit. It was very quiet on the Thursday afternoon I visited. I noticed they have a good-sized children's section as well as a "Friends of the Library" used bookstore at the entrance. Once inside, I quickly found the book I was after, used the self-check-out monitor at the front desk and was quickly on my way.

Staff are moderately helpful. The Big Issue? Noise. You have the usual library sounds (kids asking questions, parents answering, people looking for books, group work, occasional community events). But there are also people answering their phones, loud greetings, and worse, library staff engaging in social-hour-level conversations. One of the women is by far the worst. She acts like she is greeting her friends at a Starbucks. Today she chatted with a neighborhood friend by the magazine racks so loud I had to shush her. If the library staff cant model quiet in their own library, why would patrons? Geez!

I originally came here to visit the store. The store staff lady was a little bit salty and reluctantly helpful (stood there and answered questions, but did not have any suggestions when asked or exhibit friendliness and eagerness to help), but facilitated my final purchases quickly. There was not a lot in the store for people who were 100% blind, which surprised me. She gave me the name of an external resource. This was my first time visiting the Braille Institute and it's pretty cool that they offer the resources they do. It's tough that there are not many places where you can walk in and talk to people other than the library. You have to make appointments. Heard good things about the classes - tai chi, jewelry, social, orientation and mobility, etc. I saw opportunities to attend live author readings that were spooky for Halloween, Looking into volunteer opportunities.
