There was a book I wanted to read that, among all the OC libraries, was only available on the shelf here. I could have had it sent to a library closer to me but I knew I'd eventually be in the area so I stopped here while running errands one day. It's located at the civic center where there is plenty of parking. The library is small but seemed to have plenty of places for patrons to sit. It was very quiet on the Thursday afternoon I visited. I noticed they have a good-sized children's section as well as a "Friends of the Library" used bookstore at the entrance. Its hard to know how to rate this library. I think the current 3.5 rating is pretty accurate. Great location with easy parking. Bright sunny space with a solid selection of books. Staff are moderately helpful. The Big Issue? Noise. You have the usual library sounds (kids asking questions, parents answering, people looking for books, group work, occasional community events). But there are also people answering their phones, loud greetings, and worse, library staff engaging in social-hour-level conversations. One of the women is by far the worst. She acts like she is greeting her friends at a Starbucks. Today she chatted with a neighborhood friend by the magazine racks so loud I had to shush her. If the library staff cant model quiet in their own library, why would patrons? Geez! read more

I love this library and have for several years. Unfortunately there's a gentleman who comes in here daily, spends the entire day here and NEVER has sit still for 5 minutes! About every 3-5 minutes he jumps up from his seat and paces the place and heads back to sit down. 3 min or so later, again..... and again.... and again, it never ends read more

Never ever complain to the branch manager about one of her employees ... you'll be harassed and bullied for it. I made the mistake of calling to report spam being sent out by Hoopla Digital. The elderly employee who answered the phone​ assumed what I was calling about and proceeded to deliver a monologue. When she finally paused for breath, I quickly told her why I was calling. She proceeded to deliver another monologue and when I tried to say something she raised her voice to drown me out. This woman has had zero customer service training and she's extremely rude. This employee has no business answering the phone or interacting with patrons. I'm sure she's the same employee others complain about. It tracks. I emailed and phoned the branch manager regarding the phone call I had with her elderly employee. I voiced concern about this employees behavior towards me and the manager had a complete meltdown! She never attempted to apologize for how I was treated on the phone. Her attitude was quite appalling. I was seriously questioning her behavior at this point. What kind of people is the library system hiring? To berate a patron who calls to complain about the unprofessional behavior of a library employee is completely ridiculous! After reading these reviews, I understand my experience wasn't out of the ordinary with this library. This branch managers emailed response was flippant and dismissive. She then declared the matter was closed. (Obey me or else attitude). I responded by informing her I didn't appreciate her tone or the tone of her employee. I reminded her that she was employed to serve library patrons. She had yet another meltdown! Her strange belief that she has every right to harass and bully library patrons was blatantly obvious by her response to me. She actually threatened to revoke my library privileges! WHO DOES THAT??? Her written response to me is so wildly inappropriate as to be quite alarming! I'm not sure how I will proceed but her abuse of her position and the fact that she thinks it's acceptable to harass and bully a patron who complains MUST be addressed. I'm absolutely appalled. I have never seen such unprofessional behavior in a library before. It's clear this library has some major, very alarming issues that need to be addressed. It may well be time to attend a city council meeting. read more

The loudest library I have ever been to! Guarantee there will be screaming kids and entitled parents screaming at the kids or talking loudly in the front and in kids section. There are quiet areas but the sound travels to the back- and the staff doesn't ever tell people to be quiet! Even though you'll say "buT iTs ThE kiDs SeCtioN..." it's still a library. Hidden in the very back of the library is a large glass room. The quiet room. This is where the mind relaxes into cohesive and fluid writing. When home is anxiety-inducing noise and activity, I come to this library to study and do homework. The smell of books, ambient noise and kindness of the librarians make this place calming. On my last visit here, I went towards the back of the library. There they have the LA Times, NY Times, Wall Street Journal, and OC Register, in addition to the magazine section. I found the Laguna Niguel Library a clean, quiet place for reading. I was also able to turn in a book from Aliso Viejo Public Library here, which was convenient. I'm looking forward to future visits and reading more. read more

This is a beautiful library. I have been here several times. I have always had room to park my car. I have no kids so I don't have a review of their programs for kids. I have read here, checked out dvd's from their extensive collection, and did work on my computer in their quiet room. I recommend the dvd isles they have a lot of movies and some are modern. The quiet room is great for studying and writing. It has outlets for plugging in laptops and charging phones. They have study/reading niches on the sides of the library. They also have a great collection of audio books. My experience with the staff is that they are professional, polite and respectful. They let me use my driver's license when I forgot my library card. They let me borrow a pen when mine went dry. When I was late returning the dvd's were tasteful in delivering the news of my 25 cent a day fine. My dealings with staff only lasted a minute or two but it was only appropriate behavior. The patrons at this library appear to mostly be mature people but that was only the times that I was there and their were no kids programs occuring. read more

This is a beautiful library! Although we originally came here to see the little used bookstore, we decided to stop by the library right afterwards. The library has a cute kids' section, lots of computers, plenty of good seating, and even an enclosed area for quiet studying. Although I didn't find the librarians to be especially friendly, I thought this little library had everything one would need for doing some research/homework or relaxed reading. I really like how this library has a nice bookstore, and I love the little courtyard area out in front of the library. This library is both pretty and convenient! read more

I have no qualms about this place. A perfect place to study on the weekends in my opinion. It never gets too crowded and the people that come here are rather respectful of the fact that libraries are not a place for outdoor voices. I love how they have little study "nooks" for 2-3 people. They have a huge window facing the street and small flower garden and it's awesome. Makes me feel like I'm almost outside instead of studying on the weekend. The staff are rather quiet but I don't come here for 5 star service, I'm here to work. Book selection is rather nice as well. A lot of newer titles !! read more

I could see why this place has not-so-stellar reviews. The staff may be a bit on the less cheery side, but I am not here for them. It is a great place to study and read books. Of the times I have spoken to the staff, they were helpful, just not really excited to talk to anyone. There are several rooms along the side of the library that can be used to study. My favorite is the one with the window looking out to the street. There is plenty of natural sunlight there so it doesn't make you feel so trapped being the library. They also have a room in the back designated as a quiet room. Guests are usually respectful of the rules. I don't have anything to complain, just that there is a supposed 2 hour time limit on the parking, but I have stayed here plenty of times over two hours. Happy studying! read more

They have individual carols with big windows. I could sit there for a long time without getting tired. It never gets crowded. I always have plenty of room to park the car. Please, please, please OCPL, overhaul the staff at Laguna Niguel Public Library. If you want to know why libraries are dying in the United States, go to the Laguna Niguel Public Library. The facility is small and cold, and the selections are limited but the real problem is the staff. I've never been to a library before where I got the feeling that librarians wished I wasn't there and didn't care about reading or whether their patrons liked reading. They aren't excited about books, don't seem familiar with book titles or authors, and are cold and disdainful if you need help. If you actually have a complaint, or have been given conflicting information by another staff member and are trying to solve a problem, they treat you like a pariah. (There is one older woman (gray hair) who works there who has been more pleasant to me than anyone else there and I wish I knew her name so I could credit it her here.) Also, I've had books and media (more than once) that I've returned there show up in the system as not returned and then I've gone to the shelves myself and pulled the book to show them that it was returned. Now when I return something I stand in line and watch them scan it in which seems to offend them but what other choice do i have? I fervently believe in the importance of libraries, this is my local library and I desperately want to like going there and to use it regularly. But I'm miserable every time I step in to this cold environment. I've been driving to Ladera Ranch, Dana Point, and even to Irvine to use libraries that are pleasant and positive. While I know I won't be missed at my local branch, I really wish that I could miss them; then I'd know that it was a library worth going to. read more

I was so happy to have this library open near me but my gosh, the people are RUDE. The Dana Point library is further for me but I don't care, the people are nice there and know how to do that thing with their cheek muscles that turn their lips into that upturned thing that the Laguna Niguel staff are clearly incapable of! Also, the lady who was working in the store every time I went in was droning on and on about Jesus, being saved, Christianity is the only right way, etc... Do yourself a favor and go to a different library. read more

I have only been there twice to go to the study lounge. I did see how rude one particular woman was. She has mousy brown hair, bangs. I said Good Morning and she just rolled her eyes. So I stopped and made her speak by saying How are you Today? Clients were standing there so she muttered good. They have made improvements and now it's my library of choice. First of all the staff is so much friendlier! That is huge. Second they have become more kid friendly with the monthly events and inviting kids area. Third they have a GREAT selection of new books about so many different subjects ranging from diversity, inclusiveness, women in history, STEAM etc etc. thank you so much. We appreciate it. A small yet respectable library which underwent a face-lift a few years back. The basic layout from the old library is still there, however what is new pretty much encompasses the interior walls, furniture, lighting, and a cleaner parking lot that is no longer surrounded by sagebrush. The selection of books is pretty tame, however, the OC library system is extensive enough where you won't have trouble finding hard-to-find titles; you'll just have to wait a few days or so. One aspect that I enjoy and appreciate are the "private" study dens or cubbyholes where someone who needs more peace and quiet can get some much needed studying. There is also an outdoor patio area that doesn't get much use. read more

I use to come to this library every weekend for reading, wifi, etc. Now, I dont for the reasons listed below.... Librarians are more of babysitters watching you and don't bother asking them for assistance because it's silly to think a librarian can help with looking for a book or help with their copy machine?!?! Not enough outlets to plug laptops or phones. Most of the time not enough seating. Filled with odd old people!!! I seen 2 elderly men "fight" over a chair! Lol Not the best library but not worst, the wifi is free and fast! However, I find myself going to other libraries instead of this one. read more

Clean and not as crowded or loud as mission viejo library or aliso viejo which is the reason I give it a 3 star. There wifi is so bad that I had to watch my lectures on my phone. Only come here if you will be studying from a textbook or don't want the distraction of surfing the web. read more

This is a small branch library, not as big as some of the Irvine branches, and as such has a smaller selection of children's books, but the choices on the shelf are good, and you can easily request books from other branches. The real reason to go here are the great kids programs and the helpful friendly staff. read more

What is WRONG with the people who do the hiring here. Went to pick up 3 books this morning and the woman at checkout was old, grouchy, didn't say hello, didn't say goodbye. Just plain rude. All the employees here are like this. If they hate their jobs so much, why don't they just quit and let someone who actually enjoys interacting with people have the job. Or, better yet - have self check out. How hard is it to scan a book. In a place like a library that is supposed to be enlightening and interesting all you find here is negativity and disgruntled employees. read more

I agree with Kim, in that everytime I come in to this library, I make sure to smile extra big simply because I want the people who work here to know I am happy to be here, and that I appreciate their part in making this awesome place a reality.. Renovation has brought a newer feel to the library. 40% bigger! Free wifi and 16 computers with printing access make the library semi-modern, although stacks still take up most of the floor space. As far as public libraries go, it's just about what you'd anticipate. Nothing special but good hours and plenty of space to work. read more

Been here twice the past week since this was the only library that had the audiobook and book my son needed. The librarians at the front desk on both occasions were not very nice. My son was returning a book and approached an older staff member who greeted him, "what do you want?" Really?! I'm I bothering you for doing your job? Our family has enjoyed and learned a great deal from attending your library reading and homework help programs you offer. My oldest daughter was slightly behind with her reading level at the beginning of the year. The Reading is Fun Program with Mrs. Candy on Tuesdays at 4pm her skills has helped her develop dramatically. Her confidence and enjoyment for reading is amazing; this after only weeks with your wonderful program. Mrs. Candy really understands early child development reading and homework skills. She takes her time to organize the books by Lexlie level. Therefore, all children feel smart and enjoy reading. The high school volunteers are very respectful and treat the children kindly. My youngest daughter was an early reader and now is reading small books. Her teacher in preschool informed us that her skills have improved as well. I want to say thank you to your staff and also library for having such wonderful programs to help the children in the local area. Please keep this program over the summer thanks read more

This is a very nice looking library in a great beautiful location, but it is ALWAYS uncomfortably warm. It's typically 76-78 degrees in here, in fact I'm writing this review from the library simply because it reminded me of how warm it usually is in here. I disagree with the first review stating it's always cold, that is simply not true. The back study room is usually cooler, but the rest of the place reminds me or Orlando FL, outdoors... okay maybe not that bad, but SHEESH put the AC on , its not like the property taxes in this area aren't enough to fund this place? If you are like most females and like it warmer, it may feel just right here but I'll bet most men will be uncomfortably warm in here. Also, staff is just ok - nothing exciting. They also like to close at 7 pm often in the summer, aren't libraries for studying and lots of people like to work and study in the evening? I dont think 8 or 9 pm is unreasonable during the workweek. read more

I wish I could put into words how much I love this library and their staff, especially Mrs. Candy. We are at the library twice per week for their Reading is Fun Program and their Homework Helpers program. It has been instrumental in helping my son in learn to read and in building his confidence. You can tell how much Candy cares about education and children. She is absolutely wonderful!! We love the Children's area and the Family Nights they plan. This is a great small library, it is clean but the selection of books are very minimal. It is quiet and not too loud, however I would recommend going to Aliso Viejo library or Mission Viejo library instead. Aliso Viejo library is a bit bigger with more of a selection, and Mission Viejo library is even bigger, however a little louder and less secluded than the Laguna Niguel Library and Aliso Viejo Library. The only selling point regarding this library is that it is quiet and does not get that many visitors. I myself like a good amount of people to be at a library, it motivates me to study, so personally, only three stars for me (2.7 to be exact). read more

My son and I go to the lapsit story time at the Laguna Niguel Library and enjoy Amber the librarian and her selection of books to read to the kids. We also had great time at family night with Baba the Storyteller. Great combo of music and storytelling. A real treat. read more

I love this library. Today we brought our grandson to tot time. The childrens librarian was fantastic with story time . I love this library!! There is an amazing quiet study room with four tables and some comfortable chairs next to a fireplace. This is the perfect library if you want to study or read quietly because there are countless private spots to study! There is always parking no matter what time I come. The librarians are always very friendly and helpful. I honestly don't have any complaints. It is a beautiful building and it has a great selection of books, magazines, newspapers, and movies. read more
