I love how diverse Alki beach is. It's great to just go and people watch. From the rollerblading dicks to the bikini clad chicks to the boombox totin thugs to the football throwing studs.....this place seems to attract just about everyone. Parking is a bitch....unless you're smart and ride a scooter like me! Ha. If you're lucky enough to snag a fire pit, they are great for making hot dogs and s'mores. Which is cheaper and most likely better than any of the other food you can get over there. read more

Oh how I miss going to Alki Beach! While the views and vistas are well worth experiencing, my GO-TO-SPOT was and will always be THE PEGASUS RESTARUNT! In the summer, if one is lucky, quick and doesn't mind hanging around outside, as soon patrons leave their table; GRAB IT! Don't worry about the mess, the wait staff will be by and you will have fantastic view! But the view and people watching is not the best or most important reason for being there... Don't even look at the menu, TRUST ME, just order the BACON PIZZA! OMG... I've eaten pizza in lots of states and a few countries and THE PEGASUS'S BACON PIZZA is the stuff of hot & cheesy, awake, chewing & taste bud orgasmic fantasies! Seriously, to have a pizza heaped with bacon; what's not to love about that! I DO NOT recommend sharing! Let those with you get their own damn BACON PIZZA cause it's just as good left-over and anyway, there is never enough to share! Usually, we frequented the park in the evening for a short run or a long walk, but during the day it seems to get hectic especially if one were attempting to find parking somewhere within the sea of vehicles on a summer afternoon. The last time we were at the park, we were able to rent a tandem bike, but today was simply one of those days to soak in the sun and watch a few friendly matches of volleyball. In addition, there are is at least one shelter that visitors can rent ahead of time equipped with a barbeque and ample seating. Aside from the numerous recreational activities in which one may partake, there are also a number of smaller shops that line Alki Avenue near the beach area. Advice to visitors, if it is a particularly sunny day, you may find it beneficial to shuttle from the downtown water front to the park by boat taxi then taking a free shuttle down to the actual beaches. A simple alternative for those whom do not intend to transport large loads to the park or do not want to find themselves in a vehicular battle for parking spot rights. read more

This park has a beautiful view! The water, ferries floating by, the Seattle skyline - all fantastic! I'm from Hawaii so my definition of "beach" is a little different. This is as close to a real beach that I've been to in Seattle. The warm, salty air reminds me of home. The storefronts complete the picture with businesses catering to seafood, snacks, shave ice, and more. Riding a bike, rollerblading, or having a picnic, there's a little something for everyone. I don't play volleyball but I've been known to wander down that area just to see what the action is. I won't swim in the water, and most of the time, my family won't go in either. The water appears dirty, smells funny, and is kelpy at times. Sticking our feet in the water is about as far as we go. In terms of sand, it's not a very fine grain in some parts and even in finer parts, it's not pleasant. All-in-all, I love the beach feel but tend to picnic on the land and stay away from the water. read more

Need to clear your lungs of mucus? check! Quietly point out the blue herons while cozying up? sssshhhhhh, check. Need a much needed Tourist Seattle Skyline Selfie? Check. You get bonus points for every extra face you can fit into that picture and still retain the Space Needle in the background. One additional note is that winter walks are the best here, because it is not as busy, but there is still plenty of people watching and if you are cold, then you can always grab a beer at one of the many local pubs. read more

Alki Beach is an awesome spot. I feel it somehow has a different vibe than the rest of the beaches and parks in Seattle. Alki is like the Venice Beach of Seattle. There are neat statues and looks of beachy shops and restaurants. Plenty to explore. The beach is really nice, especially in the summer. Excellente'! Another great location for which Seattle is known for. The mini beach area with sand is a nice touch with one of the best views of the water and the islands. You basically are on the "rough waves" side of the sound and on some days can get quite windy. There are logs on the beach that you can either sit on or lean against while you soak in the sun or take a stroll down the sand with your better half in hand. The long, expansive sidewalk allows for many people to walk, run, bike, and rollerblade up and down the "seawall". There is also plenty of cool little eateries just right across the street if you get hungry but I prefer taking a picnic basket with some Banh Mi and beverages with a blanket or even some marinated BBQ items and use their charcoal grills scattered amongst their grassy areas. As with the other reviews, there are plenty of benches along the way and you can view the talent strolling up and down while you get your unique Seattle tan! Good thing is that since it is considered a park, there are restroom facilities available in case you need to go pee pee! read more

Ive grown up with alki and have wayyyy too many memories here to list :) Use to come late night to think by the ocean view and watch the seattle (space needle side) lights from a far + watching the sun rise after a long night of partying (good ol days) + the bbqs and playing on the sand today i relived one of the memories by taking advantage of the sunny day ! 82 degrees yes please ! laid out and got some sun bathing in while eating a few tacobell tacos that we brought along haha then later packed everything up (good parking too) and took a nice walk around to pepperdock then left before traffic hit. will defin do this again ! the sand is not like california of course, theres lots of lil sticks, glass, shells, anything that is left on the beach side to rocks are frolicking with it so i would suggest wearing your sandals or some type until u see barely any around. Theres a lot of volleyball poles to post up your game if you wish to play. saw about 4 of them going today. pet friendly, rentals for bikes and other things, restaurants, bars, restrooms, and tons of things to do. i know it gets busier near 3 to 4 til close enjoy as much as u can read more

When I think of Seattle...I don't think of the silly ole space needle...I think of Alki Beach! I LOVE this place. It reminds me of San Diego in a way. It's a nice little strip of land where you can stroll, run, ride or drive and hear the waves crashing. There are a variety of restaurants and shops that you can go into, from fast low quality to high quality dinning. This is a place you MUST visit while in Seattle and if you look out to the water you will not only see the water taxis, but you will see sea lions...which is my favorite part!!! And THIS is the reason it beats any Cali beach in my book!!! read more

Alki beach isn't cut out to be 5 stars. There is dog poop every 10 feet of grass, rare sightings of trash bins, and no dog bags. Walking our pug here was chaotic! There were many undisciplined dogs going gnarles barkley all over the place. Alki is one of the shittiest places for dog owners (pun intended). I can say the same thing about the crowd. You get the interesting people who ride cadillacs on steroids, stupid people who feed pigeons, and douchebags that wear underarmor with their pitballs yelling obscenities into his cell phone about his incompetent gf. Well, dude, what do you expect when you're one yourself. On a brighter note, Alki does have some pros which is what saved it from a 2-star review. It's good for flying kites, volleyball, running, bike riding, food, a romantic view and the beach front properties! It felt like walking through a gallery looking at the craziest ways people deck out their front yards. read more

Beautiful, relaxing, scenic, with lots of fun activities and places to eat. Alki Beach Park is a landmark that makes me glad Seattle is my home. Located in West Seattle, Alki boasts beautiful views of the Seattle skyline. Whether you want to have a nice meal at Salty's or grab some more casual eats around Alki beach, there are many food options surrounding the area. You can park along the side of the road to stop and admire the waterfront and views of the Space Needle. On sunny days, the beach is always crowded with people sunbathing, running, playing volleyball, walking their dogs or baby strollers, or having a barbeque. There is a paved Boardwalk for those who prefer to stay off the sand. There are multiple bike shops where you can rent bikes to ride along the boardwalk. Alki viewpoint is beautiful to visit both during the day as well as at night to view the city lights. It is a romantic place to take your date, and a must-see location to take out-of-town guests. Unfortunately this otherwise scenic beach has been over-run, especially in the summer, by loud teen-aged punks, hooligans, wanna hooligans, and Hells' Angels types. 3rd & Pine has discovered--and overrun, at least in the summer--one of Seattle's hitherto relatively unspoiled, truly majestic scenic spots.* Ever heard of "wilding"? Just a shot in the dark. But wasn't that in broad daylight?! And in public. * * * * * Kids will be kids, right? Just a bunch of sweet, crazy, mixed-up, misunderstood kids, yeah... If you're a traveler, Alki Beach Park will remind you of the coastal towns in Italy meets Ocean City, Maryland. It's a beautiful beach with a great view of downtown Seattle. You can walk along the beach dipping your feet into the cold Pacific Ocean. Once you need a break, just go to the strip of restaurants. Find a place that sells seafood (not hard to find) and order a clam chowder soup and watch the sunset. Once done, drive up the steep windy streets back into downtown Seattle. Seldom do I rate anything a 5 star but Alki beach definately is deserving of this and then some:) From the picturesque surroundings to the smell of the ocean, this locale is a MUST see for everyone that lives here or visits here. I can't quite possibly explain all the goodies about this place, but I'll start with a few:) As I stated the picturesque surroundings are AH- Mazing..... you can quite literally make some true art to put on your wall with just a few snaps of a camera. The awww-dropping views that are pretty much visable from anywhere, can easily be framed and put on a wall. From downtown, to the port, across the way to bainbridge, magnolia and the list goes on!!! Gettting here can be a challenge at times, parking as well but hey park first and don't be picky because you will regret that you didn't park in the first spot you see available. Walking to and from is the best way to enjoy all the amenties that Alki offers. Since I don't live in the immediate area anymore, I always go to Spuds to grab my fix of fish and oysters, nobody can do it like they do!! Mmmmmm..... read more

West Seattle for me could best be described by C+C Music Factory's hit song "Things That Make You Go Hmm" Despite its odd flavor, I like Alki. It is a nice spot to kill time during the summer and has actual sand on beach vs. rocks. So you can lay down, get your tan on or play beach volleyball. The mix of people on a summer day can be quite an odd one. Perhaps similar to a 1993 episode of MTV's The Grind? But, who cares, the weather is good and you just got a tasty smoothie from the little shop down the sidewalk. BTW, this is less park review and more beach review, hence the sand! read more

Easily one of the best views of Seattle. Unlike the other lovely viewpoint on Queen Anne (Kerry Park), the Space Needle looks a bit small and stands apart as it really is. I like that. On my last visit back to Seattle, I also learned a little history. The Denny Party landed at Alki Point November 13, 1851, and platted a settlement of six blocks of eight lots. Choosing the spot for it's beauty and absence of native Americans, it turns out there is a reason natives hadn't settles here. It was windy. Like blow-your-house-down windy. Eventually, they had to move inland to the east shore of Elliott Bay, now known as Pioneer Square. Those are our people. The point was also once the site of Luna Park, an amusement park. It was designed by famed carousel carver Charles I.D. Looff, who carved and installed Coney Island's very first carousel. Located near the Duwamish Head on the northern tip of Alki, it was built on pilings with an expansive boardwalk and was called the Greatest Amusement Park on the West Coast. Seattle annexed West Seattle in 1907, two days after Luna Park opened. (The same year it also annexed Ballard, Southeast Seattle, South Park, Ravenna and Columbia City.) With this massive expansion, there was little time or money Luna Park and, sadly, the park closed in 1913. The only downside is driving out to West Seattle, but that is a really different section of the city to explore. Plus - the drive over the West Seattle bridge offers some of quintessential Seattle of skyline, docks, and mountain. read more

The scent of ocean alone makes me want to just go crazy, sell my house, and develop my own tent city on the sandy beaches of Alki Beach. I know, that's a little extreme and dramatic, but I just love this beach with a passion. So much so, that I would be willing to wait 30+ min in traffic just to cross the West Seattle bridge and another 60+ min to magically find parking as well as scope the best location to pop a squat. But once you succeed in locating each of these, the views are breathtaking..and I'm just not talking about picturesque scenery of mile-wide ocean and all of its cohabitating army of boats, ferries, and cruise ships. That's right, folks, I'm talking about prime real estate for people watching. The best places to sit down and watch passers-by mosey up and down the beach are anywhere on the Alki Beach or even further south toward Salty's on Alki where you can lounge on grass under a tree while enjoying the breeze. My love and I have found what we think is the perfect spot and although I won't share, rest assured that there are plenty of places to find "the perfect spot." Rollerbladers, bicyclists, walkers, joggers, dog-walkers, families, etc all walk this beach mostly amicably and I even receive smiles from folks that I pass and make eye-contact to say hello. In a city where simple gestures of acknowledgment are a rare form today, I always happily revisit places where I witness such friendly interactions among strangers. I recommend grabbing some Spuds Fish & Chips, sitting on the beach and watching the volleyball games (on summer days), frisbee matches, people walking by or just the simple waves. BTW, added bonus are the spots where you can take the most beautiful panoramic views of downtown Seattle. read more

AHHHH what a beautiful place to see the Seattle skyline. So awesome that two of my friends independently took me here on the same day. I didn't mind though, because the first time was in the afternoon, and the second time was around sunset. So I got to see the Seattle skyline in two different lights and it was AMAZING. My camera definitely got a workout. You can even see Mt. Rainier from here...beautiful sight on a clear sunny day. The beach is quite underwhelming, but that's not what I came to Seattle for. I get enough beaches in sunny California. But man...if I ever lived in Seattle, this would definitely be one of the first places I would bring my visitor friends. read more

The park and its beach gets three stars, but I'm bumping it up to four stars, because of the ride to and back on the Water Taxi (you MUST DO the Water Taxi - but that's a separate review). A nice, thin coastal stretch that faces Puget Sound, and sits at the northern end of West Seattle. You'll walk along the path, passing by volleyballers, suntanners, and popsicle vendors on one side, and on the other, grown folks, sitting in front of taverns and seasonal condos, sipping on brews and chomping on fish'n'chips. In between, you'll hear the roar of bikers, the thumping bass from tricked out cars, and an occasional cyclist who seems a bit out of place. Yep, this IS the west coast... As you proceed east, you'll see the "beach" portion disappear, and it begins to resemble more of a coastal walkway, and you begin to see more and more condos, but not the snuff out the sun kind, but more of the 3 or 4 story type that allow you to get a peak at the houses that climb along the hill behind. Not a must-do if you're a tourist, but if you live here, I'm sure that this place will grow on you. read more

This is a REALLY nice beach park. The views are STUNNING! You can look out at the mountains from one part of the beach, and if you walk along the path (or near the water in the sand) to the other, you can see the Seattle skyline! Great photo opportunities all along the way...even a tiny statue of liberty!! Well, not *tiny* but not full-sized! There are plenty of restaurants near the beach too if you want to leave the water for a bit -- most with patio seating too. Of course near the Seattle-side of the beach there's Salty's which you probably wouldn't want to just walk into wearing your beach attire... but, Duke's is great for a casual spot! I've been here both in colder weather and in warmer weather and it's definitely like night and day. When it's not a gorgeous, sunny day in the PNW you can probably find parking and the whole beach is pretty much yours. When it's sunny, get there early to get a place to park and avoid the really slow drive in too! It gets really crowded and you could end up parking quite a bit away and need to walk for a while to get back to the beach. Or, just exercise your calm (and patience) and be ready for a walk if need be! Really a gorgeous place -- a must see!! read more

Alki Beach is beautiful. I was visiting this last July when it was like 90 degrees every day. This beach is super clean. Being an avid beach bum, I've definitely seen yucky beaches and this isn't one of them! There are a ton of cute coffee shops, food places, and beach stores nearby. Everything is super convenient. Had a friend's goodbye bonfire party here all day last Saturday. Unlike Golden Gardens beach, in order to build a bonfire here, you have to use one of the installed hexagonal steel pits. At Golden Gardens, you can just dig a hole in the sand and make your own bonfire if all the pits are taken. So, a little annoying that we had to hang around waiting for a pit to free up. Also, no alcohol on this beach...not sure why, maybe because lots of kids running around. In order to get to the water, you have to cross over a band of sharp/uncomfortable rocks that line the shore. I have no idea why that is, as it's not the case at other Seattle beaches. Being barefoot at this beach is also dangerous, since I found broken glass in the sand. Also, this beach is hard to access by bus. read more
