I'm so glad I made the drive to this park on my last day in Seattle because it did not disappoint. Parking is limited, so I'm really glad my family and I arrived early--we got very lucky finding a spot. The park itself is massive and sits on the former site of the Seattle Gas Light Company plant, giving it a unique industrial feel that's unlike any other park I've visited. Surrounded by Lake Union, the views are already incredible, and the combination of history, scenery, and open space makes it a really special place. There are also Lime bikes and scooters available to rent, which is a great option since the park is large and takes some time to explore on foot. One of the highlights is the hill you can walk up for a beautiful view of the Seattle skyline. At the top, you'll also find a giant sundial that's fun to check out and interact with. Overall, this is easily one of the most unique and enjoyable parks I've ever visited. I'd absolutely come back the next time I'm in Seattle. It was easily one of the best memories I had in Seattle. read more

What a place to be in the summer! I went recently for the Yerbana free yoga in the park, which was a lively affair. So many vendors, and tons of people doing yoga. It's lovely to see this park so alive in the summer and it feels like true Seattle. There are lots of paths and areas to explore here. The parking is decent, depending on if there is an event. I would give yourself extra time to find a spot if it's a day with nice weather. There is a lot of goose pop in the grass, so if you go for yoga, bring a mat you are okay with getting dirty. Of course, they can't help this, it's goose season. The trails are well maintained and so are the park amenities. Such a gorgeous Seattle staple for locals and tourists alike to experience! read more

A visit to Gas Works Park is a great way to take in some of the best views of Lake Union and the surrounding Seattle neighborhoods. The park is perfect for strolling, running, picnicking, or simply relaxing on the grassy hill, and it's also a unique spot to host a private event. While you're there, keep an eye on the water--you'll likely see the popular Lake Union Hot Tub Boats cruising by, which adds a fun and very "Seattle" vibe to the view. You can also spot the Seattle Police Department Harbor Patrol Unit boats and where they dock nearby. The day we visited, a group of young Girls were filming a TikTok dance video, which added to the lively energy of the park. We spent an evening here in the summer and enjoyed watching all the boats and activities out on the water. It's a beautiful spot with great views. There's some structures that are very reminiscent of Rust from call of duty which I personally found interesting but besides that, I'd recommend this park for anyone looking to hangout and relax. read more

While in the area I met up with one of my previous bosses and he suggested checking out this Park. The view was amazing, we had seen it from the water while on the locks cruise but it was a beautiful view and little park. There was a playground, walking trails, a beachy area, you can access the water and there's alot of stone seating. There are hundreds of geese and alot of families with kids. This is a really nice recreational area and a pretty cool site. read more

First time here this past weekend! I wasn't sure what to expect - I was simply hoping for a nice skyline view - and I got that, and more! Nice little trails around the park with remnants of when the Gas company was located there. I think the park has a nice mixture of honoring its past while also being a great place for folks to come and enjoy the outdoors. From what I could tell, there are often community events taking place (there was a 5k run), and it's just a great place to enjoy the city. Interesting park to walk around with nice views. Some notes on 4th of July at the park: There is a huge line to get in when the gates open and they check to make sure no one is bringing in anything illegal, which makes the line move quite slowly. We lined up maybe 30 minutes before opening and were able to get a great spot on the top of the hill, however it meant sitting in the hot heat and sun for about 7 hours before the fireworks started. People showed up in the last 30 minutes and stood right in front of us, so there isn't necessarily a good reason to claim a spot super early if you don't mind crowding between people. There were a lot of vendors, porta potties etc. read more

The history and views alone could be a reason to visit Gas Works Park, it's one of my children's favorite park to play and run freely without bumping into anyone. I appreciate the free parking lot, ample trashcans, well kept grounds, and the soft ground within the play area. The signs in the parking lot are very real be mindful of what you choose to leave in your car as there are regular smash and grabs that occur (good rule to stick to is never leave anything in your car in an effort to avoid your car being vandalized.) Great park with an even better history that reflects pollution restoration; I highly recommend! read more

This park is low key and has amazing views of the Seattle Skyline. The old industrial buildings is what distinguishes this park from others. Walk to the top of the hill ...there is an elaborate sundial at the top. There is a playground as well. My children would have loved it when they were younger! There is an area with the old industrial parts ...now painted with colorfully... Great for hide and seek. There are many bathrooms as well. Plan to spend some time to explore. read more

When I went to Gas Works, I texted my friend who told me to visit that I thought it was kind of ugly. She thinks it has rugged beauty. It has graffiti and looks like your neighborhood abandoned power plant, which it is in a way. There are good views of the city and water though. I have heard it is prettier in the summer, and this park is a good picnic spot. I thought I would investigate the play area to make sure the kids are really getting a good experience. They have an ordinary playground then a large covered area with fake machines. However, you are not actually able to touch/play with these machines. Thus, I don't think this is that fun of a place for kids compared to a regular playground. read more

Gas Works park Is located at 2101 N Northlake Way in Seattle. Breathtaking views and relaxing atmosphere. I loved our time here and it was the perfect day. I would consider this a must see and if It seems like a great place for a picnic or to come and relax. There is a giant hill for kite flying and a playground. Portable bathrooms are located at the entrance for convenience while enjoying the park. Swimming, playing, or wading in Lake Union is restricted as the lake is stated to contain hazardous substances. read more

Gas Works Park was one of my favorite spots in Seattle while visiting. It's very unique in its layout and views with tons of photo opportunities. I felt like I was living my best dystopian dreams! I really loved being able to view the Seattle skyline from a seated spot right by the water. It really took my breath away and made me fall in love with Seattle even more. This is a great area for picnics, photos, enjoying the scenery, etc. But, it started to get dark, because I couldn't even pull myself away from this park, and there's not substantial lighting in there. You would need a flashlight to get around if going to view the skyline at night. This spot will be a place I visit every time I go to Seattle. Very grateful for this lovely experience. read more

Gas Works Park is such a lovely place to picnic or take a stroll! I came with my hubby around 6:00p.m. on a Wednesday, and there was ample parking. We enjoyed a lovely picnic with the food we got from Bongos. Beware of ducks - they are bold and will sneak up behind you and eat your food. This happened to me when I set my plate down. It was cute to see them eat, but sad to see them eat my chicken... that's bird. Anyway, this is such a beautiful place with gorgeous views. Definitely worth checking out! read more

So I found this park on TikTok and decided to come here during the sunset time. To my surprise, this park is busy. You can see a lot of people just hanging out on the grass and chilling with their friends while chatting or just looking at the nice city view. It seems so cool to be able to see the view like this. This still has the standing rusted gas company. It actually kind of looks like artwork with the backdrop. Overall if you want to check out a free place and you can just hang out in this park is pretty nice to do that. read more

Gas Works Park in Seattle was very close to the Lake Union wedding I was officiating and also accessible from my hotel via the Burke-Gilman Trail. It's yet another example of Seattle creatively addressing older buildings while also creating very cool greenspace and another Seattle tourist treat. It's a 19.1 acre public park located on the site of the former Seattle Gas Light Company gasification plant. It's on the north shore of Lake Union (with an incredible view of it) and on the south end of what is considered the Wallingford neighborhood. In 2013, Gas Works Park was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Gas Works parks contains remnants of the only remaining coal gasification plant in the country. The plant operated from 1906-1956. In 1962, Seattle bought it for use as a park and the park opened in 1975. It was designed by Seattle landscape architect Richard Haag, who won the American Society of Landscape Architects Presidents Award of Design Excellence for the project. The park was originally named for the late city councilwoman Myrtle Edwards, however, at the family's request the name was removed and placed on what used to be Elliott Bay Park. Gas Works Park has a play area with a large play barn, and a big hill popular for flying kites. Special park features include a sundial, and a beautiful view of Seattle along with reservable picnic areas. Access to Lake Union is restricted at Gas Works Park, as the lake sediment contains hazardous substances. Entering the water or launching boats from the park is prohibited. There is no swimming, no fishing and no wading in the park. The Burke-Gilman Trail runs past Gas Works parking lot. Gas Works Park is currently in a renovation project to add a playground, comfort station, and an east entry area. This is a wonderfully unique area. While activities are somewhat limited, it's a great place to chill and really take in Seattle and Lake Union. I think one of the things that really surprised me about Seattle was how much graffiti it has and there is quite a bit here. However, it really kind of adds to the industrial atmosphere of the park. We decided to go here for our anniversary picnic & I just wanna say, BEAUTIFUL. We came here last week where it was SO BUSY, it took us awhile to look for parking. I suggest not coming on the weekend & come during the week day. There's so much more parking on the weekday, even during the sunset times. This place is so beautiful, and I recommend it for anyone wanting to just take a breath of fresh air, journal, or to go on a date. Keep in mind that it won't just be you, and there's always going to be someone. Negatives but uncontrollable: There's ducks that will raid your food so make sure to keep in mind on that. Our charcuterie board got bombarded with 3 ducks taking all our food LOL. read more

Seattle's skyline is best viewed from my favorite park. While there may not be a plethora of activities to partake in, it's an ideal spot to take in the cityscape. Parking is gratis, but it can be challenging to secure a spot during peak hours. This locale is perfect for picnicking, as many folks can be seen doing so. The name of this park refers to the coal gasification plant here that operated during the early 1900s (apparently it's the last standing remnant of its kind in the US). It's a sight to behold especially when standing close to it (I felt like an ant.....it's huge!!). As much as the plant is a noteworthy landmark here, this park also has a marvelous panoramic view of the downtown Seattle skyline from across Lake Union. The Space Needle can be easily spotted in the distance. It's such a vast park.....and a clean, well-maintained one too! Great for picnics and for children (there's a playground area). Super awesome park in Seattle that gives you a glimpse into the past one of the very few remaining gasification plants in the US. This park is a great place to have a picnic or let the kiddos burn some energy out on the playground. With the hills and waterfront it's also an excellent place to fly a kite. As for the unique history behind the park? Several pieces are protected under a structure (and painted fun colours!) and are in very good condition, but the largest area with the towers is being reclaimed by nature. Back when I was a kiddo there wasn't a fence and you could go right up to the structures (though officially speaking you weren't supposed to climb it), now there's a fence around it and each time I go the blackberries are higher and thicker than the last. Fun park with amazing views of the water and Seattle, Space needle, west towards Queen Anne district. Interesting history, cool how they've left some of the coal to gas infrastructure in place and the history behind it. Interesting that the big mound where many people fly kites, enjoy the views and picnic on, is where they buried much of the metal infrastructure that wasn't kept for historical purposes. It's just off the Burke-Gilman trial that meanders throughout the area, connecting Fremont over to the University and beyond. Great place to chill, enjoy the views and watch the pontoon planes take off and land. Just a short walk to other attractions, such as the Fremont troll, and plenty of restaurants and breweries. This park has a fantastic, green hill in the center with views of Seattle and its waterways all around. It had the famous ex-gasworks as well, some of which you can climb on if so inclined. We played lots of frisbee and enjoyed the views. There's a nice climbing structure in the playground as well for young children. The day we were there also showcased medieval knights fighting with swords and full regalia. read more

What better thing to do with an old industrial site than to repurpose it as a small park? Gas Works Park is sort of on a peninsula where the sights are very photographable with backgrounds of the boats going by, homes and buildings in the distance and highway bridges giving off all kinds of visuals. Of course, there are the remnants of the Gas Works structures themselves which has a very old factory look, which is what it is. It would be a great back drop for a dystopian feature or Urbex if that's your thing. There is overgrowth and graffiti where vandals have inevitably tagged it. The park is fairly well kept up, as even in my visit public works staff were riding through checking the area and picking up trash. The paths are great to walk along or do a morning run as I saw a couple of folks doing. There is a small playground, again making use of the space in the park and benches nearby for a picnic or to just hang out. The bathrooms were open and maintained which is not something I see often so, it's to be appreciated to have a park that is even on a small level is maintained this well. The park isn't huge but has lots of potential and between its history and preservation, lies a nice little walk through where over time I could see more being utilized on the land or perhaps artistic structures and monuments, there already are "The Pillars" which are pretty cool. The plan was to come at night to see the lights of the background across the water, but the view was pretty decent even by day. Perhaps next visit will be a night visit. read more
