Beautiful, serene, and peaceful. A nice route to take if you are walking from the sculpture garden to the space needle- cut through here and get some scenery while you walk. That being said, nothing really separates this from the countless other beach parks in Seattle. It was pretty small and there was limited seating. Myrtle Edwards Park - 9/25/22 sunset - Parks Near Me - Seattle, Washington

Myrtle Edwards Park is the southmost park along the Elliott Bay Trail, adjacent to the Olympic Sculpture Park, and roughly the north end of the typical tourist visit of the Seattle waterfront. It generally is quite busy with visitors, local walkers, etc. I find myself here regularly if I were to visit the water front or the Olympic Sculpture Park. My visit this time was inspired by some low tide observations at Pocket Beach (see separate review) and to walk northward away from the tourists crowds to see the other parks. Within Myrtle Edwards Park itself, we enjoyed a monument called Shipmates Light, an area called Sirens of Spring, 2 small beaches (the south one is Pocket Beach - more rocky, lots of logs to sit on; the north one is more sandy), looking westward to see the Olympics in a distance, and immediately to our right is the old Seattle Times Intelligencer (newspaper) building with the globe on top, just like the Daily Planet, aka Superman comics. I'm sure I'll be back many more times as I adore the Seattle waterfront area, from the commerical towards the south to the quiet towards the north, and Myrtle Edwards is just in the middle. read more

Be careful walking Myrtle Edwards as ALL east-west connections are cut due to inexplicable construction. Tuesday afternoon walk from Colman Dick to Queen Anne became the Bataan Death March as there is no shade, and no way to cut across the RR tracks. The W. Thomas Street overpass nor the Helix Bridge closed so one must walk all the way to the end at Galer St.. Inexcusable construction planning/phasing as one of these should be open. Especially as the construction activities were not witnessed for the entire length of my walk. Very poor planning separating what is essentially a long bike path. read more

I think of this park as a transitional park...or part of a group of parks and walkways along the coast. Walkable from the heart of Seattle, and there are plenty of walkways and bike paths to share. The views here are amazing. Lots of people stopping by to look at the sun set, which is gorgeous over the water. I even saw a sea lion (or maybe a seal?) just off the coast. read more

This park has so many benefits and a great location. The walking trails connect this park to others further North and all the way South to the end of Olympic Sculpture park where you can get onto the sidewalk or street to take you to Waterfront Park and beyond. This park features plenty of grassy space for lounging, beachy/rock space next to the water, separated walking trail and biking trail, a rose garden, and benches to sit and enjoy the gorgeous views. Speaking of views, look at those mountains! It's like a scene out of a movie (maybe literally). On nice days the park can get a bit busy at times but it's large enough for people to spread out during normal situations (not so easy for real social distancing though because the trails aren't wide enough). read more

When I lived in Seattle, I'd go to this park every week to relax by the water after work. There's never a large crowd there. There's plenty of benchs to sit on by the water. When you watch the big freights move slowly by, it feels like the world is slowly moving by too. It's a nice balance during the work week. So, when I came across this memory on Facebook, I had to share it. When the park's open again, it'll be time to plan a visit. read more

Elliott Bay Trail takes you along the waterfront through the Sculpture Park into Myrtle Edwards Park, where you'll find yourself surrounded by great views and open space. This is probably one of my favorite places to go running. There always seems to be a good number of people at Myrtle Edwards, from fellow runners and bikers to people just enjoying the park and taking in the view. I would say that a loop through the park is roughly about 4 miles, starting at the Sculpture Park and stopping just before the turn by the Smith Cove docks. Paths are well-maintained and clean with a separate walking/running path and bike trail. As a note, the only public bathroom that I noticed seems to be the one by the fishing dock. If you're like me and horrible with directions, the skybridge into the park can be a bit tricky to find at first. For people coming from the Queen Anne area, just follow 3rd Ave W. down towards the waterfront where you'll eventually find the start of the bridge. I recommend taking this route because Elliott Ave can get a bit busy with traffic and there didn't really seem to be an easier way into the park. If you're coming from the south near the Sculpture Park, take the path along the waterfront and it'll eventually turn into Myrtle Edwards Park. read more

Breath taking views of the Puget Sound. Perfect for relaxing, playing a little game of whiffle ball (or whatever your preference), running, dog walking, etc. The thing I love most about Myrtle Edwards is the walking trail down to pier 66 where all the restaurants, shops, terminals, and even the Great Wheel are located. Very easy to get to as well. Especially with the boardwalk from the other side of Elliot. read more

A Birder's Perspective Nice peaceful retreat in the middle of the city. A good place to teak a break, enjoy some views, go for a walk/jog and also see some interesting birds. Some of the highlights of my evening there were the Barrow's Goldeneye(50+), Common Goldeneye(1), American Wigeon(30+), Eurasian Wigeon(1 - this guy is going to have some birders visiting this season), grebes, cormorants, gulls, etc. Overall a fun place that made my evening with the rare Eurasian Wigeon. read more

A nice spot for great sunset or bridal pictures. I attended to a wedding ceremony here and it was just very nice. Few people walking over the pathways. We stood on lawn spot with a wonderful view. It was so fast with no interruptions. Then, they took some pics on one of the cute little places near the water. Afterwards, we took a happy walk to the celebration spot. We happened to walk by this park. We didn't know the name of the park until we saw it from the picture we took from phone. The park is simple yet incredibly beautiful. We enjoyed how clean it was, the friendly people, the adorable dogs and an amazing sunset. As a lot of reviews have mentioned that for Myrtle Edwards Park, the big appeal is, of course, the panaromic views of Puget Sound, Alki and downtown. So who was Myrtle Edwards anyway? She was a popular member of the Seattle City Council in the 1950's/60's and one of her passions was public parks. She died in a car crash in 1969. For this review, I mainly wanted to point out a parking lot for this park which I don't think most people even know exists, because there are a ton of parking slots and never more than 10% are filled. This parking lot is at the extreme north end of the park. You get to it by taking the exit off West 15th Ave. to the piers (same exit ramp as the one for Magnolia Bridge, but you take the left fork in the road). Also too, because this parking lot is on Port and not city property, there are not the usual Seattle nanny-state rules, i.e. no maximum number of hours you can park, no park closing hours, etc. etc. The Port just asks that you employ back-in parking. If you come here for a jog and want to continue past the south end of Myrtle Edwards Park and go along Alaskan Way, it's nice, because even if the sidewalk is jammed with tourists, there are about two feet of space on the sidewalk between the street and the row of parking signs/light poles/shrubs, so you can slip through crowds unimpeded, using the strip as needed. For me, in my leisurely way, it was an 80 minute round trip jog from the north end of Myrtle Edwards down to the Washington State Ferry terminal and back. Myrtle would have been five stars, but they have two paths - the bikes get a double-wide path and the pedestrians are shoved off onto a narrow rutted, tree root-buckled trail....and that's not fair. ;-) read more

Take a lady here and you will have a great date walking along the pier. There are tons of places to eat nearby for all price ranges. I don't know why they don't use this place to hold more events! If I lived in Belltown or downtown I would be at this park on a daily basis. There really isn't much else to do at this park besides run, bike or walk around and soak in views of the city & the Sound. I have seen some people fishing off the rocky shore and I've also seen people sunbathing on the grass, and at the north end of the park there is a boardwalk for more legit fishing. There is a little beach area which is pretty small and not very inviting to me for some reason...but I'm glad its there. The park also snakes past a huge grain terminal for ocean-going cargo ships which is pretty interesting to observe as you run, walk, bike or skate by. read more

A shoreline public park, open 24 hours, that provides a very nice view of the bay and surrounding environs as well as the Space Needle nearby. I went on my last day in Seattle about 45 minutes before sunset and just walked around, getting some great photos as the sun went down. Very calm, a few joggers, a few families, a few couples, and a few friends just sitting around. Not much here in terms of actual things to do, just a calm and peaceful place to sit, picnic, read, talk, pray, or whatever else you might like. I don't know about any prohibitions specifically, but I would assume as a public park there's no alcohol or marijuana smoking allowed. It's a nice walk from north to south to catch the trail to the Sculpture Garden/Park, which closes at sundown and thus wasn't open by the time I got there. It takes a bit of a walk to get to and from the shoreline, especially the hill getting back up, but there is nearby parking if you're not relying on public transportation. All in all, worth the stop. read more

With time to kill before my first Yelp Elite Event, I decided to take a walk at Myrtle Edwards, which is near Waterfront Seafood Grill and the Olympic Sculpture Park if you walk through the waterfront path. The park runs along the waterfront and provides gorgeous views of Elliott Bay. There are train tracks with trains sometimes running by which makes this park distinctive. There are two paths, one for walkers and one for bikers. As you walk further in, there are a couple of beach areas within. This is a cool park to sit, relax and get zen with it. I don't usually give the five star rating, but I wholeheartedly do for this park as it is the one of my favorite places to chill in urban Seattle. read more

Amazing park in my opinion! Wonderful views of the Sound and the city, miles of walking and bike trails, and just a great place to hang out and people watch. This park is super popular during the busy lunch hour in downtown and is also home to the legendary Hempfest. There's a lot of people that come here but since it's so big you never really feel crowded (unless Hempfest is going on lol then it's packed). It's a very nice location that leads you from the waterfront to lower Queen Anne and to the beginning of Magnolia area. There's also the Olympic Sculpture park and Centennial park that is connected so you can spend a lot of time here walking around and enjoying the sights. read more

I had some free time while waiting for a friend so I decided to do some exploring. I was at Pike Place Market and just chose a direction to start walking. I stumbled upon this park and immediately fell in love. Literally. The moment I saw that first beach, I was ready to move to Seattle. Maybe it'll happen sometime in the future. There are multiple mini 'beaches, although most of have pebbles instead of sand. There are plenty of trees to provide shade and fallen tree trunks that you can sit on. The views are amazing everywhere you go. It feels calming and relaxing here. I came on a Friday afternoon when the weather was absolutely gorgeous but it wasn't crowded at all. The only downside is the lack of bathrooms. I walked at least an hour from the south end but didn't encounter a single one. Nonetheless, I adored this park and can't wait to come back! read more

While running through the park for my first time the other day I had my first moment of: I LOVE SEATTLE I AM SO GLAD I MOVED HERE Running (or walking) away from downtown Seattle, you can see the Sound, the mountains, and feel a gentle sea breeze. On the return trip, back toward Seattle, you can see Rainer, the city, and the Space Needle. I love the park because it extends so far north that I have plenty of room to run (I like distance), but it also caters to walkers, bikers (who have a separate path so pedestrians are not dodging bikes and getting yelled at all the time), and people who just want to sit on a bench and contemplate the sea. Myrtle Edwards Park is attached to Centennial Park and isn't as awesome as Centennial is. The only thing Myrtle Edwards has going for it are walking/biking trails and some amazing views. The rose garden and other features belong to the neighboring park. Overall Myrtle Edwards/Centennial Parks are a great way to waste an afternoon! read more

Such a pretty park in the middle of downtown Seattle. A quiet spot in the midst of all the craziness. Pretty trail for walking and biking, great for kids, pets, picnics, ect. Even has a pretty little rose garden. And right next to the water. Recommend coming on a Sunday because you can park nearby for free with a 4 hr limit. And so close to the city. If you keep walking you'll get to Olympic Sculpture Park and then the waterfront with all the shops and restaurants. Nice for a date night as well read more

This is my new favorite place to walk my dog. I love it here, simply love it. And the pooch always seems to have a wonderful time too. Beautiful views and a wonderful use of a strange skinny piece of land the city had. Paths are well maintained, dog owners all seem responsible and pick up after their pets, and plenty of benches if you want a pit stop to relax and just "be" for a while. The dog loves all the new people and other doggies to meet, new things to smell, and plenty of grass to get his fill of "grass joy" (a strange combo of break dancing/shimmying on his back. & no, he isn't rolling in something). When it is sunny out this place is simply glorious! City, sea, land and air..it all boils down to something simple and shiny and I always come back home happy. read more

Apparently I am a barfly...at least that is what my last 5 reviews say about me....Anyhow Im not your 12-Step church type so I followed up with a place where I go to get "dry"... The Myrtle Edwards Temple of Waterfront Magical Homelessness. I moved to the city in December '06...right after the fierce windstorm and in the middle of "the bad time" for Seattle weather. But see I moved from a ski town where I lived at 10,000 ft with 14,000ft mountains all around with snow past my crotch and Seattle felt like Arizona. I'd put on my 3 mixed layers of fleece and waterproofness and take my trusty pooch Spoonful down to the Waterfront. I instantly fell in love with Myrtle Edwards Park...They were putting in a Sculpture Park right to the east and what a genius way to preserve some acreage for the city denizens...Ahhhh, a place in Belltown w/ no Condos...F yeah. Stay on the sidewalk as much as possible when its raining....some of the fields flood pretty quickly....and what the hell is up with the huge blocks of granite on what appears to be a blue-stone parking lot....Is this were public beheadings used to take place? I asked some people but they were out to lunch, and still haven't got back to me.... The trails run for over a mile up and down the water with amazing views of the bay, downtown, and Mt Rainier (when you can see it)...Plus you can brush your overly hairy puppy here with nary a glance. Stay away from the wierd sand-people who seem to emerge from the Bay...they are known to hate jedis and will eat your droids without a second glance.... read more

For years I've been driving past the bridge, the one that bares a striking resemblance to the stadiums downtown, wondering where it leads to. At first, I thought it was the walkway for workers going to the plants along the waterfront. Then I wondered if it was just another piece of random art placed lackadaisically around the city. I had no idea there was a public park on the other side. About a year ago I learned that Myrtle Edwards park rested at the other end of my bridge. My musings began to take on a life of their own. I've been to Golden Gardens. I've ventured along Alki. I've wandered whimsically along Lincoln Park. In my mind's eye I saw beautiful green lawns, a beach filled with people frolicking in the waves, picnic areas hosting birthday parties and sunset bar-b-ques. As the summer months approached I began looking for where to park my car so I could visit this park. I found no visible lot from Elliot. I saw no signs as I drove the stretch toward Ballard, and then home again each day. As the promise of sun and warm weather began to develop sincerity, my need to find the entrance to this public dwelling became an obsession. Yesterday, a record breaking day of warmth and glorious sunshine, my obsession peaked. I yelped. I googled. I even went to the Seattle Parks and Rec website. And finally I found it. The elusive entrance was evading only me - city dweller, non-tourist, non-sculpture-park-visitor. The secret entrance is through the Sculpture Park! Ah Ha! Lathering my pasty-white skin, proof of year-round Seattle residence, in 50+ plus suncreen and uploading my favorite new tunes onto my mp3 player, I walked out of my Queen Anne apartment, extra large water bottle in hand, and went adventuring. In a full Bill Nye speed-walk I aimed myself downhill. Through traffic, past coffee shop patrons spilled across the sidewalk, past doorways that reek of urine, I went. Heel, toe. Heel, toe. I arrived at the sculpture park. I paused from my heart-rate accelerating walking speed and took in the view. As I stood there I realized that my water-bottle was empty, and my bladder was equally full. Heel-toe only made things worse. No problem. This is a Seattle park. I went walking down the path into narrow green lawns, certain I would find the bathouse. The one like they have at Green Lake, Golden Gardens, and Lincoln Park. The one that has indoor plumbing and offers soap as an illusion of sanitation. The one that probably isn't very clean, but it'll do, for a park. I kept walking. Swish, swish. As I walked, I noticed small patches of rocky beach access - not the expanse I'd experienced at other parks. I kept walking, looking for relief in the shape of a building. I noticed that there are two paths at this park, one for pedestrians, one for wheels. That's nice, I thought. I continued along, observing the lack of charcoal smells, the absence of laughing families and picnic tables. The view is still breath taking. And then I saw it. The brick building that would save me. Wait. Something wasn't right. Was that a wire fence? Why is the bathroom surrounded by fence? I walked closer. Desperate. Hopeful. Noticing, but intentionally ignoring the solitary Honeybucket at the end of the sidewalk near my salvation. No bathroom. No indoor plumbing. Only the Honeybucket, with a broken door, an empty Pabst can, and empty hand sanitizer, was available for my use. Depression set in like my ass on a waterbed. Emerging from the Honeybucket, I gathered my gumption and set onward. At least I can find a water fountain, refill my bottle, and make it to my bridge, satisfying the mystery that sent me on this quest. Of course, it turned out that the water fountain didn't work. Now, when I drive by my bridge I will know what lies beyond it. A beautiful view. A rocky shore. And a broken Honeybucket. Some mysteries are best left unsolved. read more

Myrtle-Edwards is one of the rare parks in Seattle with pull up bars and parallel bars. You can strength train, do gymnastic progressions, or even pullup freestyle with those simple apparatus. The park has a nice vibe and the views are pleasant. Friendly cyclists, bikers, rollerbladers, runners, walkers, and families. Just respect people's space on the path and you will be fine. I hope to return with more vigor each time. read more
