I have never had any issues or repairs, but they come out and do my maintenance twice a year. Today I had a scheduled maintenance visit with Tara, and I can't say enough good things about her. She was not only professional and thorough, but she really took the time to go above and beyond in explaining things to me in a way that actually made sense. One thing that really stood out was how she walked me through how, why, and when to flush my water heater. She also let me know that they do plumbing too if I'd like help. Honestly, I had no idea this was even something I was supposed to be doing, and she didn't just mention it in passing she made sure to answer all my questions and explain why it mattered. I didn't appreciate the $2,000 in "stuff" that I was offered to buy, but, I haven't seen an HVAC company that doesn't do that. This was on a Friday morning. The problem didn't arise until my wife and I tried to take showers on Saturday. There was no hot water. Went down to check the hot water heather, which is next to the furnace. Instead of the dial being on "hot", it was on "pilot". How it got turned to pilot, I have no proof, but, I would imagine that the tech from Summit, either accidently, or for some reason on purpose, turned it to pilot. I sent a message thru the Summit HVAC website about what had happened. I got a call from the service manager on Monday. He said that there was no way, no possibility whatsoever, that his tech, in any way, shape, or form, could have moved that dial on the water heater. When I said "I guess it's a mystery", he said "sure is". But, he reassured me that Summit was still there to take care of me. I told him "that wasn't going to happen". I said I wanted out of the annual agreement and half my money back (I had paid the full $199). I got less back than I asked for, but, that is another story for perhaps another time. Needless to say, I do not need these people in my home. But, for everyone else, if you want techs that are infallible, and a company that will stand behind the infallibility of those techs, perhaps Summit HVAC is for you.

Current technician is high quality guy, Mike. This company is now owned by PRIVATE EQUITY and is everything bad you have ever heard about PE. Coldest day in December, Saturday night, heater goes out around 9PM. Called and the answering service didn't even know what company I had called. "Someone will call you back on Monday when they get into the office." HELLO!?!? my heater is out on the coldest day of the year. Is there is no emergency service available? "Oh yes, we have an emergency service option and they will call you when they get in on Monday." Monday 9am, got a call. VM. No urgency, no nothing. AVOID Santa Fe HVAC and any other company that is PE owned. I was on a service agreement and they would not refund the unused visit. AVOID.

-- July 2024 Update -- When our indoor unit would not kick…read moreon, I went outside to see that the compressor was cycling. The inside unit had a code displayed clearly. I called Buckners to have them come take a peek, and service the unit (which was ~1.5yr old). They sent a new technician who did not understand the issue. They first thought the unit was low on refrigerant. They then overcharged the unit. They called to the office for a second opinion. They told me that the TXV was sized/not opening. I once again asked about the code on the front. They did not take a look at the code, which the definition is printed clearly on the inside of the furnace panel. They wasted four hours of my time, sent the new guy (with no support), overcharged my system, and recommended a repair which I did not need. I then received an email with a $619 dollar estimate for the labor (as parts were covered under the manufacturer's warranty). But don't worry, there's a cheaper member price! They have an offered "membership" you can pay for monthly to allow you a discounted cost on a repair you didn't even require. I asked why the price was so high, becuase it was a 1-2 hour repair, and they said they always estimate high in the case that it takes too long, we would not pay more. Ultimately that behavior only serves the business. I got a second opinion from a commercial HVAC tech, and he instantly looked at the code, connected a module to read the blower motor status, and recommended a repair. The total time to repair was around one hour. Ultimately, Buckners was a pretty good company early on, but after they were bought things seem much worse: - Scammy practices having a "member" price ... Labor price is inflated to push you toward a monthly subscription - Unexperienced technicians deployed without someone to back them up (this is really Buckner's fault, not the new guy) - Overcharging for simple repairs - Almost caused damage to my condenser compressor due to over pressurization - Wasted my time, and I ultimately was in a state of disrepair longer due to their incompetence The ONLY reason I post these experiences is to warn others who may not be aware of what's happening and have no idea how modern HVAC systems work. Good luck Buckners, I will NEVER call you again for a third chance.

In July, I called Buckners to come out and take a look at a furnace because I thought it smelled…read moreodd. The furnace is old and has a pilot light. The technician briefly shined his light at the furnace, without taking the front cover off, and declared that the furnace was too old to look at. He would not even attempt to diagnose, and instead said I needed a new furnace. Even though he refused to actually look at the furnace and diagnose it, he still charged me the $109 callout fee. I had told their office when I called to make the appointment that the furnace was old. They could've told me at that point that they do not work on old furnaces, but did not. Instead, they charged me over $100 for doing nothing. If your furnace is older, beware that they may do the same to you. Also, as an FYI, I called a different company who came out, took the front off, cleaned it up a bit, tested for CO, told me it was working just fine despite the age, and that the smell was just related to the pilot light and was no big deal.

Charged $99 just to come out, $337 to replace the capacitor. Contacted the service manager who told me the labor was $149 (took him less than 10 minutes) which means I paid $188 for the capacitor, which the service manager told me was an $80 part but I found the identical part on Amazon for $18.10. Quite the mark up!!! All he could say was "industry standard"... They lost me as a customer, and they are the ones I had install the entire system.

Which is understandable. The problem I ran into with them is that I felt that I was being oversold on a couple things. The technician informed me that I need to put in a new capacitor for the furnace. I said go ahead because I was trusting his guidance. Well, turns out that since the AC unit went out, it is best to replace not only that, but the cooling coil AND put in an updated furnace to boot. This of course was told to me after he put in the capacitor. Which was too late to say no. Heartland charged me $96 for a part if you Google it costs $5 - $6 on average! And literally takes zero effort to connect it. Very frustrating. Then when I had the sales person come out for the official bid along with the owner, both were very professional and nice guys. However, again... I felt I was getting over sold. One thing that stood out in my mind was when the owner, Jim (I believe is his name) showed me that one of the air ducts was not making a 'hollow tin' sound when you press on it. That it was a sign it was rusted out from the inside and needed to be replaced. Granted I needed some duct work as some were definitely rusted. However, that particular air duct he was referring to was just insulated on the inside because it takes air away from the furnace. The hollow duct is only for return air ducts. Which makes total since. Thinking about this I feel that for someone that has been in the business for so long should have known that. Maybe not...but I just felt I was getting over sold again to drive the bid up even higher. As for the bid itself. I will say they were the most expensive by at least 20%. In short. Nice, friendly people and knowledgeable. However, they are very expensive and gave me the impression that I was being oversold. Starting with that $96 capacitor. Needless to say, I did not go with them.

I called "Mr. Plumber" yesterday for the first time. I can only reiterate what others have already…read moresaid. I had a blockage in my sewer pipe on one half of my house. Leaving a nice small standing pool of filth in my basement. Luckily it wasn't worse or larger. All of this in the middle of having my floors done. I was for sure when I called I would get the same answer I had already gotten from other plumbers I called and that would be "Well the soonest I can get someone there would be tomorrow afternoon." Argh! So I was hoping not to hear that but expected it. The dispatcher was great! And she said Tony, he just finished a job, would be here in 30-45 minutes. I was so relieved. And he actually showed up in that time frame. Once here he was quick. He was probably here 20? Minutes. Thankfully it was an easy fix. He simply snaked the drain to free the blockage and got the drain, draining again. Tony also explained everything he was doing, showed me what was going on, what to look for when he took the clean out covers off, and the best thing to do to prevent this happening again. The best part was the price. It was very reasonable. I was incredibly happy to have called "Mr. Plumber". The speed with which he showed up in an emergency, how quickly he resolved the issue, his ability to explain to me what happened, how to help fix this in the future, and taking the time to show me how things worked, and finally the reasonable pricing have just made me a loyal customer. Tony is an honest, hard working, skilled gentleman. With patience and an ability to explain things to the homeowner when there's a problem. Mr. Plumbers prices are much more reasonable than some plumbers. I'm looking at you MM. Don't hesitate to call Mr. Plumber the next time you have a plumbing emergency or issue. You won't regret it!
