They are very knowledgeable and friendly. I had someone come out to trouble shoot my AC unit. Turns out the compressor went out and the whole unit needs to be replaced. Which is understandable. The problem I ran into with them is that I felt that I was being oversold on a couple things. The technician informed me that I need to put in a new capacitor for the furnace. I said go ahead because I was trusting his guidance. Well, turns out that since the AC unit went out, it is best to replace not only that, but the cooling coil AND put in an updated furnace to boot. This of course was told to me after he put in the capacitor. Which was too late to say no. Heartland charged me $96 for a part if you Google it costs $5 - $6 on average! And literally takes zero effort to connect it. Very frustrating. Then when I had the sales person come out for the official bid along with the owner, both were very professional and nice guys. However, again... I felt I was getting over sold. One thing that stood out in my mind was when the owner, Jim (I believe is his name) showed me that one of the air ducts was not making a 'hollow tin' sound when you press on it. That it was a sign it was rusted out from the inside and needed to be replaced. Granted I needed some duct work as some were definitely rusted. However, that particular air duct he was referring to was just insulated on the inside because it takes air away from the furnace. The hollow duct is only for return air ducts. Which makes total since. Thinking about this I feel that for someone that has been in the business for so long should have known that. Maybe not...but I just felt I was getting over sold again to drive the bid up even higher. As for the bid itself. I will say they were the most expensive by at least 20%. In short. Nice, friendly people and knowledgeable. However, they are very expensive and gave me the impression that I was being oversold. Starting with that $96 capacitor. Our AC went out, and I called around to a bunch of other guys, and unlike the big shops, or even some of the other independents, Jim was able to come right over. Lest you think that it's because he's not good quality, I was very impressed by his friendliness, his expertise, and his helpfulness. He gave me lots of little tips to help with my system, and identified the culprit (which ended up being an electrical issue). So, he didn't push to upsell me too hard, he got it fixed right away (on a Sunday afternoon), and charged reasonable fees. I cannot more highly recommend this company, and their work! read more

New install in sept of 2020. Didnt event finish hooking up the humidifier so when there tech came back for fall check up he noticed and finished. Paid for the service maintenance fee in which when they came out to service today they said I had to pay for my filter. Never told me that I had to pay more after I pre paid for a year of maintenance on both units. I said that is not what I was told so tech put the dirty filter back in when he was done and left. I called by the office person didn't care if I cancelled and to send the guys home. I told him to have tom call me but nothing yet. $13000 system and $360 + for maintenance plan and they want to charge me $35 for a $15 wholesale filter. Back to 72 degrees I go, never should have switched! read more

I have waited to write this review for a couple months to try to let myself calm down and be fair. However, the longer I think about my experience with this company, the more upset it makes me. Our heat pump went out in June and with me being almost 9 months pregnant, I needed someone to come out immediately. One company came and wanted over $100 to even look at it, then Jim came out and looked at it first (added it to the price later). Turned out, we needed an entire new system. This was stressful being that I was a few weeks away (so I thought) from having our first child. We set a date for the new system installation and they agreed to let me pay when it was installed, giving me time to get financing in place since it was several thousand dollars. We got multiple quotes because I felt their prices were high, but my husband really liked Jim, so even though they were higher, we worked a compromise and went with them. However, day of install, the system we discussed was not the system they installed. We discussed a large system with a 5 inch air filter but we got a 1 inch air filter. When we mentioned this to them, they argued with us about how that was not part of the agreement and we even discussed prices of the replacement filters. After MUCH deliberating and anger, they agreed to make it right, even though they acted like we were just trying to take advantage of them (and the owner even mentioned this to us). Luckily, they had to come back out later since they didn't have the equipment that was agreed upon because our system wasn't working correctly. When I called the owner to let him know, I was told that I was better off than most right now because Lee's Summit didn't have power. What?!?!? I just spend almost $10k with your company and I'm better off that I have a non-functioning system? We set a date to have them complete the job (and fix it) several days later. Unfortunately, I had to postpone this because I had to be immediately induced from stress (thanks Heartland for contributing to that). When I called to let them know, I spoke to the owner who seemed fine with it (as he should since I have no control over it). However, then, Becky (I think she was the office manager) called and was incredibly rude to me on the phone. She told me that I had to pay immediately. I explained that I would pay when the work was complete, as agreed upon and she told me that I had cancelled the final day and needed to do it now. She wouldn't back off until she had me in tears. *Thanks again to Becky for the added stress* My mother was sitting listening and she was ready to go speak to Becky in person...it was bad. I couldn't believe anyone would speak to a customer that way, especially one that explained that I was on the way to the hospital for an emergency induction. When we got out of the hospital (and home to an incredibly hot house), Kyle (the service tech) came out and finished our system and fixed the part that was not working correctly. Thank you Kyle for being the one nice and honest person we dealt with. If I could rate Kyle alone, it would be much better. This entire experience was one that I hope to never have to deal with them again. I have a service agreement and I don't even want to call them for that. This goes beyond unprofessional...this is just a lack of human decency. If you need money so bad that you harass a customer that the work isn't right or complete while they are on the way to the hospital, maybe you should not be in business at all. Called them yesterday because my AC went out. They offered a same day appointment. The service was great, the employee was very friendly and personable. The price was fair. But the kicker, when I looked at the receipt closer several hours later, I noticed that they gave me a military discount. I never asked for it, didn't even know they offered it. My heat went out early one morning so I woke up freezing with my 6 month old and 7 year old. It was 5 degrees outside and terrible timing for this to happen. I called Heartland Quality Heating and Cooling and spoke with Tom Davis. He had a technician at my house within 45 minutes and my heat was on within 30 minutes. Never have I had such fast service before and I am a new homeowner so I have made several service phone calls lately. Heartland Quality Heating and Cooling has been the best service call I've made. I took the day of if work to wait for a competitor to check out my HVAC and got a call at the time of their 4pm appt informing me they wouldn't be able to make it because of another job. I reached out to Heartland Quality Heating and Cooling and Tom worked late to show up same day! I was super impressed with his courtesy and integrity, and more impressed with the focus on customer satisfaction. After a few hours the problem was verified in our 25 year old HVAC system. Ton worked to find the best package for our needs, and a week later it was installed. Awesome company...highly recommend. Very professional technicians and prompt service.

First technician came out on Sunday to diagnose the issue, found a refrigerant leak and said he did not have the tools to finish the job or locate the leak. Told me they would do a customary warranty check to see if the coil would be covered on Monday. I had to call them Tuesday to get a status update and told incorrect information. They said the coil was out of warranty when a simple Trane warranty search said it still was. Then I called them again on Wednesday to get another update where they confirmed it in fact was under warranty. I asked when they could get someone out with the coil they said needed replaced, they told me by Saturday. I called Monday morning when no one tried to get in touch with me. They finally called me back with pricing and to set up an appointment for Tuesday. The technician was polite, friendly and professional. Unfortunately the coil was not the issue, there was still a leak inside the heat pump unit outside. This means that the misdiagnosis cost me hundreds more because they wanted to upsell a coil replacement instead of locating and fixing a leak that the technician on site fixed in about 20-30 minutes. TL;DR - Terrible customer service, poor diagnosis leading to high costs. Avoid if possible. read more

The best customer service, and the most reasonable quote we received out of 3 places, for brand a new HVAC system. They were there installing 4 days after our initial call. One guy spent 12hrs getting the job done while our children whined about the 85* inside the house. Not one complaint. The manager even dropped by to assure us that the one worker would plug away at it until it was done, no matter what. (His partner had evidently fallen ill). And now our split level house is almost too cold when the setting is on 73. Imho, you would be a fool to go anywhere else. read more

I found Heartland on the internet while looking for someone who knew how to work on boiler systems. I gave Jim a call, scheduled an appointment and he was right on time! He took a quick look at my system, gave me an assessment and had it fixed in less than 15 minutes! That may not sound like much, but it was his knowledge and experience that allowed him to assess it so quickly and explain the basics of the system. If you need a complete heating and cooling system replacement, this is the company to have take care of you. I had 2 other companies give bids, they had less efficient heating systems they quoted me and were going to charge thousands more for their product. It only took a day for the complete tear out of my old air conditioner and heating unit, and the install of the new Rheem system. Was a painless process, with high quality install and salesman! Extraordinarily professional, personable and honest. Arrived on time every time (a HUGE plus for my retired AF veteran husband! He's kind of a stickler for being on time). We had a full replacement of both our furnace and central air so it was a multiple day job. Both Jim (owner) and James (installer) showed respect for our home and family. Very knowledgeable and professional. They seemed to have the best install technique out of all the quotes I received, and they did install my new A/C and Furnace as promised. Price was very good too. Both the owner and the installer were very personable and intelligent. Maybe they could use a checklist, though? I had to start my water heater after they left (no hot water the next morning!), go buy a new air filter that their cool homes inspector said the installer would bring out, had some cleanup of screws in the driveway that that I imagine fell out of the old unit when they hauled it off, and some other minor things. Also, required a follow-up appointment to fix a minor but obvious concern. Would recommend, and I will use again, but a 5 star would require less follow-up and cleanup on my part. Also they were over an hour late from the appointment time on two occasions related to the install. read more

I had Jim come out to my house to look at the ac. After hooking up his handy dandy digitized readout machine, he was able to tell me very quickly, I needed Freon. It was quickly taken care and the issue resolved. In talking with Jim, I was impressed with his service oriented goals and getting the job done. I think if you choose HQH&C you'll be glad you did. When your AC breaks down on one of the hottest weekends of the summer it's good to know a quality service that will come out on a Sunday and fix it and I definitely found one that fits the bill. I called on Saturday night after 8pm, but they answered and were very nice. They set up an appointment to fix my AC unit on Sunday. They said it would be late morning or early afternoon and the tech called at around 11am. It only took about an hour total and the tech was polite and knowledgeable. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I don't understand AC units and I personally like it when people can explain all the hows and whys of everything to me. I don't feel like I have a full understanding of what went wrong and what the parts I had to pay quite a bit of money for actually do. He obviously knew his stuff but maybe he's just not used to explaining it in layman's terms. On the bright side, my AC is now working beautifully! Overall, they were professional, timely and they came out on Sunday. If my neighbors asked who I use for AC repair I would not hesitate to tell them I used Heartland Quality and would recommend them. read more

Heartland Quality Heating and Cooling carries a brand well rated by a national consumer agency. Their bid was competitive with the other bids I got. The installation of our new system went very smoothly, and they were able to work with my schedule. All personnel are very clean cut. And our new system included one year of tuneups. I called Jim at Heartland because of their excellent reviews on Yelp. I wanted to try someone besides the places I had used in the past, because they seemed so expensive. At first , I tried calling another new company, but they took over two hours to call me back. So I decided to call Heartland to see if they came to Shawnee to do repairs. My humidifier wasn't working and I was hoping that they could come after I got home after work that day or the next. I didn't want to have to take off work for a four hour window. Luckily, Jim said that James could come after I got home the next day. James showed up soon after I expected him and speedily figured out the problem. He fixed it rather quickly and the repair was reasonable cost wise. Friendly, polite, and fair. I'd definitely use them again! I was very happy. Jim called me first thing the next morning to see if everything was ok. I really appreciated his phone call. Very happy! I would definitely recommend them to friends and family. read more

Heartland Quality guys came out for a furnace tune up on 9-26-16, a Monday. They found a small leak that they determined was caused by a loose screw near the fan. Supposedly, the screw in place was too small, so they replaced the screw on the collector box front cover with a larger one. This, however, appeared to make the leak more severe when the heat was turned back on. I was told that it was likely that the gasket for the collector box was bad, or there may be a crack in the collector box (I looked up the name of the part -- service guys just pointed to the part). John said he'd check on the availability of the part, and get back to me with a cost and when they'd be able to come out and replace the part. On Thursday, I still had not heard from anyone, so I gave them a call. I spoke with Jim, who was apologetic, and said that John had gone on vacation, but would be back on Monday and he'd have him call me with follow-up information. He also mentioned that he was dealing with a broken water pipe at one of his rental houses, so was preoccupied and overlooked the fact that no one had followed-up on my job. I did not receive a call on Monday, so I called them on Tuesday. Jim was again apologetic, and went on to remind me of his woes of having to deal with a broken water pipe at one of his rental houses. I was starting to regret having renewed the annual maintenance plan with this company. When John did finally call me back, he too apologized for not remembering to call, and then he told me that since Amana had been bought out by Goodman, the part was no longer made. My options were to have them come out and use high-temperature silicone and 'permanently seal' the collector box cover on and hope that stopped the leak. There was no guarantee that this would work, since the cover itself could be cracked. That option was going to run about $350. He then mentioned that since our furnace was 11 years old, we should really just think about replacing the whole unit. He assured me, that since we were valued customers, they'd be able to give us a really good deal. So, I went ahead and scheduled a time for them to come out to take measurements and give us a bid on replacing the furnace. The lowest bid, $4,789. Sounded reasonable, but I just really started doubting the whole, "they don't make this part anymore" line. I called a friend who's had a couple of heating/cooling units installed in a couple of different homes and asked if they could recommend someone to give me a second quote. Fortunately, I have a friend who keeps good, honest, skilled company. The gentleman came out on his own time, and just wanted to do his own assessment of the situation. He could've easily said, yeah, you need a new unit and given me a quote. However, he said, why don't I see if I can get the part. He couldn't believe the part was no longer available either. He called me the next day, and said the part would be here in a couple of days, and he'd be out to replace the cover. All total, it took him about 3 hours including travel time, and he only wanted to charge me $215. I compensated him fairly for saving me nearly $5k. Note that Heartland has been the only company servicing our furnace for the past 4 years, so it's very possible that their service team was responsible for the 'small screw'. When I started using them and bought into their annual maintenance plan, the owner did service calls and had a real sense of pride in providing quality work. I think they've grown too large and have lost sight of 'quality'. The good thing is that they did refund my money for renewing the annual maintenance plan after I called them to let them know that I was no longer in need of a new furnace, because a solid repair person was able to order a new part and get it installed. read more

James worked on our furnace and was very good about calling/texting information to us on when he would arrive, coming back with parts, etc. He would take as much or as little time to explain something to me as I wanted. We couldn't be more pleased with Heartland! Back in the late spring our air conditioning quit working. After waiting 3 days for our usual company to come by with no return calls, I cold called Heartland Quality Heating and Cooling. They came out within just a few hours. After inspection of the system they gave us our options. We opted to install a new upgraded HVAC system as we knew our old one was on its last leg even prior to this situation. They ordered the new unit and since this was a Friday it wouldn't be delivered to them until Monday morning. They let us BORROW a stand alone room AC unit that SAVED THE WEEKEND! We have a child and 3 dogs and that particular weekend was very hot so we were very grateful for the AC! The HVAC until was installed that Monday and we have been very comfortable all summer long! They helped us pick out an energy efficient unit so not only are we cooler, we actually pay less that the previous years! I can't say THANK YOU enough to Heartland for the excellent service through the entire process. They are top notch!!! Called Heartland for furnace repair. The furnace would only run for a short while then shut down. Technician quoted $870.00 for the repair, stating I needed a new inducer motor because the bearings were wearing out causing the motor to vibrate. Got a second opinion from a different HVAC repair facility. Their technician found a loose mounting bolt that was causing the motor vibration. He also found a cold air return in a bedroom that was blocked by a mirror and a closed damper in the duct work that were causing inadequate air flow into the furnace. Issues resolved for a $70 service fee. read more

We purchased our home a little over two years ago and we were new to the metro area. Our furnace filter was an odd size and I began to call around to see if I could find one. When I spoke with the owner he was very forthright and honest and told me that he could order one but I could save myself some money to go online and order the filter. I was so impressed with his honesty that we then called them to come and perform the maintenance on our HVAC system. Our system and house is going on 17 years old so we decided to replace it before the summer of this year. We were very impressed with the options given to us by Tom and we went with a Trane variable speed furnace and a new AC unit. They came and had our old system out and our new one installed in one day. We were both quite impressed with the sheet metal work that was done, and now we no longer hear a rattling sound like we did before. Since then Tom has called to see how the furnace is operating and we received the nicest card from them in the mail today. Very professional service and we highly recommend them. read more

I just wanted to follow up with another review on how awesome this company is. Jim installed the system on our first home and did an excellent job. Since then, we've referred him to everyone who needs the service. Well, our new home wasn't cooling the house all of a sudden and I called HQ right up. Shortly after, Jim, the owner, is at my doorstep. I told him our unit is covered under home warranty and he still evaluated my problem, then advise me to contact the warranty company since that would save me some money. I told him what the warranty company did and he wasn't happy with what he heard so I called them up again and now a new tech will be here tomorrow to do a more thorough job (I'm hoping). So we will see if the warranty company fixes my issue. Once my warranty expires, you bet I'll be purchasing his maintenance program. I'm starting to see more and more of his vans on the road and it makes me happy to see people like our family entrusting Heartland Quality to provide great work! read more
